Unfortunately for Shalin, the Pokémon Center at 9th and Sandstone was busy...on top of her getting lost in the city. It wasn't even a metropolis like Birch was, and she still got some of the directions confused. Even with a phone GPS, she had trouble following the map...how embarrassing. Once she got checked in, she found out the wait time was going to be about 30 minutes. That left her almost an hour and a half to burn. Thankfully, there was a sandwich shop and diner not too far from the Center - time to pick up lunch. With most of her main riding Pokémon at the Center already, she found herself walking.
Once she had been seated at the diner, she sent Alicia a quick text: "Im gonna be late - center's super busy. a little over an hour?" She wasn't too terribly surprised the diner was busy - it was still the lunch hour, after all, even though it was late in the lunch hour. Granted, the wait was worth it - that was one of the best BLTs she had in quite some time.
After picking up her Pokémon from the Center that wasn't so busy anymore, the girl headed right down Sandstone Boulevard all the way to the north gate leading to Bass City. Once they were clear of town, Shalin released Kiku, her Skuntank, and mounted up. She then sent out Sol and Serena on her left and right, the Persian walking next to Shalin and licking her exposed leg. She wanted to say something, but Serena hadn't been out of her Poké Ball for quite some time - Shalin figured it was better to just let her show her affection. Where was Alicia, anyway? She was supposed to be here about this time.

When the text had come in, Alicia had immediately fired back a reply. “Works for me, wanted to check on something as well as do some digging for information.” The delays were honestly rather well timed, as had let her snare the newest members of her team, an adorable pair of Eevee to make up for the one who decided to run earlier. Alas, she herself was a bit too preoccupied with arranging everything, and so her sense of time slipped away from her. As it turned out the egg she’d gotten was a very special one indeed, and however it hatched out, it would grow to be a powerful member of her team for certain. She just need to, of course, hatch it and raise it from being a baby. But there was something touching about that as well.
That being said, with a quick bite of her own snagged, the pinkette was spotted racing up to where they planned to meet, the precious egg carefully wrapped in her arms. She may have only been a few minutes behind, but she still hoped she didn’t worry the other explorer too much. “Hey! S-Sorry about that, I kind of lost track of time for a bit there…! Ehehehe...” The awkward giggle was followed by her raising one hand to rub the back of her head and flash a small, apologetic smile to her traveling partner. And then she looked over the Pokemon Shalin had out.
“Are all your commonly used Pokemon bigger then they honestly should be? My goodness, first the Beedrill, then the Yanmega, and now this Persian...” Alicia shook her head at that, sighing. It honestly amused her, and ultimately she should’ve really expected it. It wasn’t like Shalin shied away from riding the oddest members of the Pokemon World, after all. She did tilt her head in curiosity at Sol, having not seen a Volcarona before.
"I was the one afraid of running behind," Shalin answered, the underside of Kiku's tail occasionally rubbing harmlessly against her head. She couldn't help but smile and eventually laugh when she heard Alicia speak of her Pokémon that way. "I..." She stopped, not knowing what to say at first. "I...think they're more fun this way!" the girl sheepishly replied, blushing. At first, she couldn't bring herself to say the true reason why, but eventually blurted it out, borderline snapping back to Alicia. "I just like riding different Pokémon, okay?!" She covered her face in embarrassment, Kiku snorting as his eyes scanned the beach below and to his west.
Serena affectionately rubbed her soft fur against Shalin in an effort to make her less mopey, Sol buzzing his six wings just long enough to get airborne. Once he had leaped off the ground and started hovering, the buzzing stopped - his wings were flapping about as fast as a small bird's. The Persian let out an affectionate, if nagging, purr. While the rider was still a bit mopey from her hateful remark, or at least one she thought was hateful, she felt courageous enough to at least face Alicia again. "...Sorry. I didn't mean to yell at you."
Serena inched toward Alicia, the saddled, big Persian likewise nuzzling her, almost like she wanted her to climb on for the trip across the coastal road. Sol hovered toward the two, the burning scales dropping from her body making it feel a little hotter than the forecast would suggest. Kiku was sniffing at something in the direction of the beach, looking like he could take off to the northwest at any moment.

Alicia allowed another half-nervous chuckle escape her at the answer. Seeing the other explorer’s laughter also put a smile on her face. However… that faded a bit as Shalin seemed to hesitate. Had she touched on a sensitive topic without realizing it? Had she upset her current traveling companion somehow? The first answer she got from her wild friend did make sense, but it rang of something. Not exactly fright but similar. It seemed so unlike her which only furthered Alicia’s worry. And then almost unprompted snapping came out, revealing the truth.
It was certainly a lot more innocent and fanciful then the pinkette had been anticipating, given how Shalin tried and flubbed dancing around the question. Soon, she had to pick her way past the Persian cuddling up to Shalin. By the time she managed to utter her apology Alicia was right beside her. A smile on her expression, she tugged Shalin into a firm hug. “No need to apologize. I didn’t think a question like that would cause you so much distress. So I’m the one who should be saying ‘I’m sorry’. I was more amused then anything because it just fit who you are so well. So please don’t ever feel you need to be embarrassed, least of all around me.”
She paused a moment to notice Serena turning her attention towards her, reaching over to gently scratch the giant cat’s ear. “Because these bonds you have with these Pokemon are made all the more beautiful from the honesty and passion you have for the choices you made with them.” Her piece said, she let Shalin go after that and turned to Serena, taking the hint and mounting up on the feline’s back. This, at least, was probably going to be a much smoother ride for her. No scales off the poor insects, but she would need more time to get used to them.
“Now then, shall we be going? I wound up burning more time then I thought with that little number.”

Shalin, filled with relief that Alicia accepted her quirk, reached down to accept the lithe girl's embrace, as awkward as she looked reaching down from Kiku. "It's the biggest reason I don't get along with city folk. People who get it, like you, are so hard to come by." She squeezed Alicia a bit tighter after saying that before letting go, mostly after nonverbal complaints from the Skuntank having to hold her up at such an awkward angle. "Anyway, enough of that - I don't want to talk about it for now."
Serena seemed unusually well-behaved as Shalin saw Alicia climb into the Persian's lavish saddle. It had to have cost quite a bit of money, but the species was known for being needy and often pampered. "I have to warn you ahead of time...she's quite the runner." The green-dressed girl turned straight ahead, ready to head down the gentle hills toward the coastline. "Let's go!"
Kiku wasted no time getting started, his stubby but quick legs carrying Shalin into a light breeze that blew her long, thin hair around. Serena took off after him, quickly running at an angle and behind the poison-type as to not be directly behind the purple, bushy tail flapping behind. The two drifted off-road toward the beach, Kiku's small legs kicking up sand once he had crossed over into the more loose terrain. Sol was a distant third in the makeshift Pokémon race, flying closer to the beach to avoid igniting any small fires with his falling scales.
Kiku's scent caught a young boy at play with a Corsola. He looked a bit surprised to see such a Pokémon carrying a rider, the Skuntank circling the Corsola that looked like it wanted a battle. Though Shalin was in a hurry to get to Bass City, the two young ones agreed to let the Pokémon have their quick battle. She dismounted Kiku, the poison-type quick to drench the water-type in toxic, vile-smelling musk.
"Counter it with your Aqua Ring!" the young swimmer retorted, cleaning away the lingering musk with a veil of water. Though that stopped the smell, the toxin had already infiltrated the water-type's porous body, and there was only so much the Pokémon's restorative powers could do against such a nasty poison.
"Kiku, follow up with your Sludge Bomb!" Instead of the more liquid musk, Kiku instead excreted a more solid form of its tail toxin, forming a small sphere that it flicked toward Corsola using its tail. It seemed to undo a lot of what the water veil was doing to keep the water-type up. Needing to end this quickly, the Corsola sunk halfway into the sand and started shaking. The sand underneath the distant Skuntank gave way as well, violently erupting around the Skuntank. While it wasn't a full-on Earthquake, there was nowhere to run from his foe's Earth Power.
Unable to utilize distance anymore, Kiku had no choice but to engage the water-type in melee. Raising black claws into the air, he raked at the Corsola's front and sides with a rock-piercing Night Slash. While the cuts and poison were enough to bring the rock-type to the brink of passing out, it wasn't quite enough - the vibrations from a second Earth Power were more than enough to end the battle. While Kiku didn't collapse from being half-covered in sand, his nearly-motionless tail and down-hanging head were enough signs than she had lost. She recalled her Pokémon, paid the young trainer the agreed wager, and recalled Kiku.
Serena grew impatient of the battle. She let out a growl as though she were on the prowl for a snack, then bolted ahead of Shalin. Apparently she had spotted something quite far down the road - she rarely was one to run ahead like this. She turned back onto the road, fully extended her claws, and dashed north at speeds well beyond what Kiku could keep up with even if he could run, her flexing back bouncing Alicia quite a bit. "Sol, let's fly after them!" The Volcarona's six, red-and-orange wings roared for a few seconds, just long enough to get the two in the air, before going silent. They were still fluttering, but more at the speed of a small bird instead of like a Beedrill's. While Sol in his newly evolved form was quick, the Volcarona wasn't going to go faster than a Persian...

Alicia could understand not wanting to talk about something sensitive like this. She was just happy she’d reassured the other young woman. There was there was the note of Serena’s running ability. It took a moment, but Alicia realized why Shalin spoke up. Thanks to feline flexibility, of course the Persian’s gait was worthy of note. The pokemon wouldn’t be one of Shalin’s mains, or so it seemed, if she wasn’t! So the newer explorer did her best to buckle in a hang on.
Even so, the feline taking off got a small yelp from Alicia as she got bucked a bit. Still, she handled this a lot better then she did the bugs. And she was thankful the Persian decided to avoid remaining behind the Skuntank for obvious reasons. Even if there was nothing right now, she didn’t want to be there when something got made.
And then she found out just how much she had to remember about appearances being deceiving. Coming across a trainer with a Corsola was curious enough, but the both of them looked ready to scrap from the get go. It honestly looked like it should’ve been an easy win for Kiku, at least at first. Then the battle continued on and a potent Earth Power came out from the Corsola. It was at that point that Alicia realized this might actually end badly for Shalin’s massive skunk.
Not that she got to see the end, Serena had enough and charged off on her own, carrying the pinkette explorer along for the ride with a surprised squeak. Then what caught the Persian’s attention was visible to her. Off to the side on the hills was a pile of enormous, animated stones stomping around like it owned the bleeding place. Given it’s sheer mass and size it was entirely possible the stone beast was the head honcho around it’s neck of the woods.
So with a concentrated effort, she did what she could to persuade Serena to stop and leave the Stonjourner well enough alone, as Alicia wanted nothing to do with the creature. Either it was fully evolved, which would imply extreme power, or it was a naturally large species which made gauging its power at a glance all but impossible. She didn’t want to risk any of her pokemon engaging with it.
“Besides, you just left your trainer behind. Give her a chance to catch up!” Alicia groused out, before sighing and giving the feline a few gentle scratches behind the ear.
TLDR, 16 foot BIG BOIS are a bit too much for to want to deal with, even if level appropriate. Giving the Stonjourner a wide berth and passing on the encounter.
It wasn't exactly a sprint typical of a Persian hunting for food, but it was still faster than most ride-trained Pokémon ran. While she was not quite as lithe as Shalin, the normal-type could tell little difference. Still, she respected the guest's lack of experience with such an exotic Pokémon, and kept herself to a more straight run, turning gently instead of suddenly. She caught sight of a pair of aquatic Pokémon, slowly turning off-road and toward the beach. The pampered normal-type let out an affectionate purr as Alicia scratched behind her big ears.
While Serena wanted to skid over the beach and slide to a stop, she thought better of it - this wasn't Shalin she was carrying, after all. Instead, she simply extended her claws, letting the added friction sap her momentum. When she was about to pass the two wilds she had sighted, she grew impatient. She let out a deep purr to warn Alicia before digging her claws into the grass and sand below, skidding along the beach's surface and turning around to kill her momentum completely. Though it probably felt intense to a less experienced rider, she was more than capable of doing that from a full sprint.
Once Serena had stopped completely, she faced the oncoming Shalin and opened her mouth wide like she was yawning. Shalin was still quite a way back, every small scale dropping from Sol's body turning black a few blades of grass beneath but causing no real damage. It didn't take long for the two to catch up, Sol's wings sounding a brief but loud hum as he landed. "Fun, huh?" the bug's rider nonchalantly asked before her attention turned toward her other Pokémon, who still looked excited. "What is it?" Shalin asked before turning toward the waves.
There was a Lapras in the shallows, singing to a half-beached Lanturn! "Oh no!" Shalin cried, quickly dismounting Sol and running toward the two Water-types. The Lapras looked fine, but the Lanturn looked injured. She rest her hand on the wild's exposed skin - it was dried out. Getting on one knee, she found it to be barely breathing, too. She wondered how long it had been here - clearly quite some time. The Water-type's mouth was slightly open, and almost completely still. She dropped an Oran Berry into the wild's open mouth, then tried to push it back toward the sea.

It was slow going, but she managed to get the blue and yellow Pokémon back into deep enough water where it could hopefully breathe out of both sets of gills instead of just one. Once it started moving again, Shalin left a Net Ball in the shallows, with the release button facing the Pokémon. "If you want, I'll make sure to take good care of you," she reassured the electric swimmer.

Even as tame as the cat was acting, a feline mount was still something that took getting used to. Fortunately the pinkette explorer was adjusting better to Serena then she was to Queen Zing and especially Flit. The two bugs at the resonant hum of their wings on top of speed and being able to fly complicating matters. Serena, meanwhile, was just fast, albeit she made for a bumpy ride as well.
The warning purr was much appreciated, as it gave Alicia time to settle in and hold on without causing much in the way of discomfort for the cat. She didn’t need to be a genius or be able to see Auras to know Serena most definitely wouldn’t like that. As such it was much easier to handle her skidding, already lessened as it was, then it otherwise would’ve been. Alicia heaved a sigh to herself and smiled. Turning to Shalin at the question, she smiled a bit. “Well... does it count as fun if it gets the heart pumping fast?”
The question was only partially rhetorical. All told she could potentially get used to something like Serena. That being said, she saw what Shalin noticed at the same time, an injured fish on the beach. A Lanturn if she was remembering correctly. She swung her leg over to slide off Serena and move to be in position to assist. And she almost jumped in when it seemed like Shalin was having trouble. But then she got the fish moving and got an Oran Berry into it to help.
A mental switch later left her able to view the auras of those around her. While not extremely well practiced in its use, she was able to see the strength of the Lanturn being bolstered by the Oran Berry that had been given too it. That and the assistance getting it more fully underwater left Alicia feeling more secure in the fish pokemon’s fate. As such, she left the matter in Shalin’s capable hands.
Her Aura Sight, however, did clue her in to another pokemon hidden in the vicinity. With everything else sorted out, curiosity got the better of her and she took a knee near the source and carefully brushed sand away. Soon enough, the purple shell of the bivalve Pokemon became visible, apparently snoozing away. Was this a low tide time? It seemed almost as odd for a Shellder to be out of the water like this as it would be for a Lanturn to be close to the surface.
Seeing it was a little on the small side, she wondered if maybe infrequent feeding was stunting it’s growth. As a result she decided to completely dig up the critter in question and pick it up. Walking into the surf, she hummed softly as she settled on a good place to put the bivalve pokemon back down. Alas, as she was making the hole to settle the creature in, it woke up and took a long look at her. Focused as she was, Alicia didn’t notice she was being stared at. At least until it took exception to the fact that she dug it up and sprayed her face with a water gun, getting a comically muffled and gargled yelp in return as she fell back.
The Shellder, having been dropped as a result, promptly took to burying itself again to resume its nap. It did at least look more comfortable as the waves washed over it, though. This, sadly, did not change the fact that Alicia was left especially wet for her troubles. “Some Pokemon...” the pinkette sighed out as she got up again, trying to wipe her face dry at least.
Mina just had to get out, away from the shrine. Away from her duties as a Ranger. Sometimes it was a bit too much trying to balance all of that plus her, no... she wouldn't even let the thought cross her mind. She took a deep breath as the salt laden air rushed forward, billowing golden strands of hair around herself. The sun warmed her skin, as she walked across the sandy beach. She was so lost in thought, and relaxing, she had almost forgotten her partner was out of her pokeball. That was until she felt a small tug on her gloved hand.
With a small jerk, awakening herself back to reality and current situations. She gently rubbed Artemis's head. "What is it girl? Did you want to go play in the water?" Mina smiled as her partner floated along beside her.
Artemis, the Abra shook her head no. Mina rolled her eyes, knowing it wasn't going to be that easy. Wilhelmina felt the familiar sensation of her brain pulsing, it reached out to her partner. A small, even toned, yet familiar voice resonated within her mind. "Not exactly..." Abra looked towards the water. "I was wondering if it was time for lunch!"
Mina sighed, it was a familiar argument. One they had almost every day. "Lunch was an hour ago."
"Okay... then a snack?" Mina could feel Artemis' smile within her own mind. How much pleasure this Pokémon got from food was astounding.
"No! Remember you ate almost an entire bag of treats yesterday, after I specifically asked you not to!" Mina scolded gently, a small smile upon her lips. "Besides, I don't have any with me."
Artemis got quiet, Mina could feel a storm brewing within her partner. So many emotions and thoughts flashed by, Mina could harldy get a read on any of them. But one thing did come to mind loud and clear...
"Hey, I do want to play in the water!"
Before the though had even time to register Artemis had grabbed Mina's arm and teleported away... Right above the ocean.
A shrill scream filled the air as Mina found herself plunged into the tide.
"Oh you...!" Mina scolded, as her Abra floated above her, giggling. "You're gonna pay for that one! That was just rude!" Mina stood up the best she could, grabbed a handful of seaweed, and threw it at her partner. It would have been a bullseye, if Artemis hadn't teleported yet again.
Mina knew better than to throw things, she also knew better than to throw things at Artemis. But what she didn't take into account was that there were other people around, and a glob of seaweed was heading straight for two girls!

What a relief - the Lanturn saw the metaphorical light in going with Shalin as well as it saw its own. Though she had no space on her team for the Lanturn at the moment, she would be able to take it to one of the many Pokémon Centers in Bass City when she got there, preferably one closest to the outskirts of town. Serena sounded another appreciative purr toward Alicia, as if to thank her and tell her she was a good rider.
Shalin turned around to find Serena and Sol crowding around her, the needy Persian expecting her trainer to take Alicia's place. "We're still a ways from Bass City, girl - Alicia's gonna need you to get her there the rest of the way," she explained in her best motherly voice, the girl climbing back atop her Volcarona and preparing to take back to the air.
A shrill scream surrounded her, followed by a big splash very close to her. Before she could react, Shalin and her fire-type were soaked in sea water. Upset, Sol's six wings started beating too rapidly for the eye to see. Glowing in hot oranges and yellows, an angry-sounding buzzing accompanied by growing heat filling a large sphere around the two.
While she was used to powerful vibration coursing through her from riding her Yanmega, that accompanied by the heat was a bit much. She slumped low in the bug's saddle, Sol flinching as a piece of seaweed hit him at high speed. Seconds after that, the buzzing and heat ceased, the local temperature dropping to more comfortable levels. Shalin groaned, her body drenched in sweat after Sol's temper tantrum. "You...okay?" She mustered the strength to say, though it was questionable whether she could be understood.

Alicia couldn’t help but giggle a bit over the Persian apparently appreciating how she was ridden. It was actually kind of funny to think of. At the very least, it seemed like they could get back on the road again. That was, of course, until a newcomer was literally dropped into the situation.
“What in blazes!?” Alicia yelped out upon hearing the shriek and splash of water. A few seconds later, she’d turned to face what was going on. Which at least gave her time to duck under the chunk of seaweed that broke off towards her. With a biting remark about watching where one throws something on her tongue, the explorer was about to unleash her minor verbal tirade when she was promptly interrupted by a sharp spike in the ambient temperature. That accompanied by a heavy buzz told her everything she needed to know. She didn’t even need to turn to know what condition Shalin could be in right now.
”You!” she suddenly barked loudly out towards the waterlogged arrival. ”Get over here! Now!” That likely got across just how upset she was at what just transpired. That done, she immediately turned and dashed into the now-receding heat around the Volcarona. With a grasp of a strap, Alicia hauled herself up onto the big bug with complete disregard for anything Sol had to say about it.
Another hand reached over and grasped her shoulder. Slick with sweat, huh? That could be a good thing or a bad thing. The very short period made it worrying, but at the same time being dry would indicate something much, much worse. There was also the fact that it was so sudden that this sheen of sweat was all she got and she was indeed failing to sweat anymore. Either way, Alicia knew she needed to get Shalin off and away from Sol just in case.
Fortunately, the other girl had a saddle that didn’t get her strapped in. Hauling her off was child’s play, given she was even lighter then Alicia herself was. Hopping and getting her arms wrapped around Shalin, she grunted as she landed and dragged the other explorer away a bit. Now she sat herself down, laying Shalin over her lap and against her body, and grabbing two of her team members.
“Makaro! Powder Snow, make a pile nearby! Reeshra! Icy Wind, keep the snow cool and solid!” In a moment, the two foxes materialized and were given their orders. There was only a moment of hesitation from the male before a sharp glare got his tails moving. Her pile made, Alicia reached a hand out to soft and chilly substance, grabbing a small amount of it on her fingers. With a little dab of her fingers, she put some of the snow on Shalin’s wrists, which began melting very quickly from how overheated she was. In addition, she also put some on the slim woman’s neck, over where the major arteries and veins run. Cool the blood in those areas, where the circulatory system is easiest to reach externally, and it would act to cool the rest of the body as well.
She only put a little bit on at a time of course. She didn’t want to induce any kind of thermal shock in the attempt of treating the heat exhaustion. Which meant this was going to be dragged out a bit, her hand repeatedly reaching to get a little more snow to reapply. She kept a close eye on her travel partner, waiting to catch any sign the Shalin was coming around to being coherent again.
Their guest better have a very good explanation for this...
There's a moment in everyone's life where you make decisions that you wish you could have instantly taken back. Changed the for the better. Alas you can't, as the threads of fate have already been woven. Interlocked into being upon the great loom, within the tapestry of reality. In a strange way, although it took .02 seconds to happen, it seemed to last an eternity as everything happened. The Volcarona soaked with water, luckily the seaweed missed the girls. Things were bad.
Mina jumped as the girl with pink hair barked at her. Well not really barked, she wasn't a Lillipup. But she had a commanding voice, maybe she trained Lillipups, or Growlithe, or perhaps a tough Houndour? Regardless of her team, Wilhelmina just wanted to sink below the ocean's surface, and just hide away. Her brain was full of so many emotions. Embarrassment, anger, shock, fear. Perhaps these were the thoughts of the girls and pokemon? Or maybe her own? This was too confusing to try to understand!
Mina knew what she had to do. She had to help, this was her fault after all... well... technically it was Artemis' fault. Regardless, she had a job to do as a Ranger!
"I-I'm sorry!" the soaked blonde girl said softly, her voice chiming like bells. "I... didn't mean to hurt anyone! Are you okay? Will she be okay?" Mina opened her pack, digging for something, anything to help! "My partner, Artemis..."
Mina looked around. Abra was nowhere to be seen. Of course, when things went south Artemis disappeared!
"Artemis is my Abra... and she and I were arguing. Well, She was complaining, and I was explaining why she couldn't have more snacks. Because she just ate lunch. And she also ate all the snacks yesterday." The blonde seemed to ramble on, and on. "So, Artemis wanted to play a prank I suppose, and teleported me into the ocean! So, I threw seaweed at her in a retort. I guess I forgot you shouldn't throw things at Abras because...hello teleport..." Slowly her ramble faded into silence as she slumped her shoulders in defeat.
Yet again, she had nothing to contribute but excuses. She didn't have much in the means of burn treatment in her bag. She'd need to restock some medical supplies next time she was at home. Which reminded her, she was going to have a long walk home if Artemis didn't return...
As if Abra was reading her mind, it teleported back above the wet girl, floating above the water. It was holding a few ointments and bandages within her arms. Slowly holding them out towards the pink haired girl, in a form of a peace treaty.
"Will she be okay?" Artemis thought, Mina shrugged, not wanting to risk using her powers right now. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry! Is there anything I can do to help? Will she be okay?!" Mina voiced her partner's concerns, as well as her own. Today was NOT going to be a good day.
By the time Shalin came to, she was completely drenched...and cold. Almost like she was shivering. Her vision was still rather blurred, her head pounding as started to move her outstretched arms and legs. Her motor skills seemed to be fine, but her head still hurt quite a bit. All she could see were the whites and blues of the sky, along with four other blurs she did not recognize right away. One was Sol, one was Makaro, one was Alicia, and the fourth was a large, grey figure flying above her - one she had no clue what it could have been. She let out a groan as she tried and failed to tilt her head.
After a few minutes had passed, Shalin's vision finally started to clear. The wild rider found herself farther up the sandy coast, a bit warmer but still cold. While the Vulpix's Powder Snow was effective at cooling her down, it didn't take much to swing her temperature a lot, given how little there was to her. Sol, Makaro, and two females surrounded her, the Volcarona buzzing for about a second when he saw his trainer's eyes open. "...How did I get over here?" Shalin asked incoherently, slowly and shakily pointing her right index finger the newly-present, long-haired blonde. She sounded like she had just come off anesthesia. "And who are you?" she asked as she tried to get to a sitting position, but ultimately letting herself lay down again.

As she went, she’d steadily lessened the amount she was using. The bits of snow she was using weren’t melting as fast as they were at first, which did mean Shalin’s temperature was coming down at least. A glance was shot at the soaked young woman once she’d arrived, and the explorer huffed to herself. “She’ll be fine, looks like she only got to the point of exhaustion. That her temperature is coming down this easily indicates that there’s likely no further heat related illnesses cropping up. Might be real woozy at first when she comes around though.”
The two Vulpixes took that as indication that they could rest for a bit, snuggling close to Alicia and, by proximity, Shalin. The pinkette listened in as closely as she could as Mina explained herself, and saw the young Ranger-to-be having started rifling around for something to help with. Her partner was conspicuously missing, since the ‘mon in question seemed to play a role.
Then the little prankster in question appeared in a flash with offerings in hand. Alicia sighed softly to herself. At least the both of them realized what to do when you royally messed up like this. “It should be fine, lets wait for her to wake up and see how she’s feeling before we use any supplies. Don’t want to waste anything. And you?”
Alicia fixed a pointed stare at Mina at that. Once more her biting retorts were on her tongue to chastise the girl for her carelessness. And yet, seeing the concern written plain as day on her face, she couldn’t bring herself to lash out. “Never mind, not going to beat that Ponyta any longer then necessary.” Good timing, too, as Shalin started waking up.
“Easy there, Shalin...” Alicia commented. “Your bug buddy here got a little indiscriminate when drying himself, so I grabbed you and pulled you off over here while he was cooling off. I was worried if I didn’t do anything the sudden heat wave would do some serious damage.” She didn’t interfere much, trusting Shalin to know her own limits better then Alicia did, and smiled as she settled for laying back again.
“As for her? Turns out she’s why Sol got splashed, it’s a bit of a story but suffice to say an unruly Abra and a quick lapse in judgment were the culprits. Honest mistake, it seems to be. Anyways, good question is good. I’m Alicia Westfield, and these two are my first two Pokemon, Reeshra and Makaro.” She took a moment to point at the two Vulpixes in turn, indicating that the shiny one was Reeshra and the special Arcelian colored one was Makaro. “You’ve mentioned your partner being Artemis, but who’re you?”
"M-me?" Mina stammered nervously. "O-oh! Right! I'm Mina... Wade... Mina Wade! I'm a Pokemon Ranger!" Wilhelmina rambled on. Sure, a pokemon ranger was known for being professional. She didn't feel so professional covered in water and seaweed. She shot Artemis a quick glare, her partner disappeared, and reappeared behind her. Yeah, she knew she was in big trouble.
Mina tried to get up, the waves were a bit tricky to traverse. Mina took a few tentative steps, before a wave crashed into her, causing her to fall back into the ocean with a small plop. At this point, Mina just wanted more than anything to sink below the water, and hide from this entire embarrassing situation. As she put her hand down, something moved. Causing Mina to give out a sharp yelp!
Before she knew what was happening, a Shellder poked its head above the surface.
"Oh! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to disturb you!" Mina spoke softly to it. The shellder blew a few bubbles in response, as it yawned at her. "Seems like I'm just causing a bit of chaos today.. I'm sorry, I didn't ask your names. Who are you?" Mina said softly, as she looked down at her hand. A pokeball floated from her bag and bumped into her hand. Perhaps this was a sign for her to try her hand at catching a pokemon. Turning her attention briefly towards the newly found pokemon;
"I know we just met... but would you like to go on an adventure with me?" Mina held the ball out towards the Shellder, awaiting its response.
