"Thanks again, Alicia," Shalin sighed with gratitude for the explorer's sudden but needed actions. Sol had finally dried himself off completely, the powerful bug-type relaxing next to Shalin and Alicia. It was like he had never been splashed at all - even his equipment was as it was before! Mina from the looks of it was at least understanding and empathetic. At least this whole mess appeared to be a misunderstanding. "A Ranger?" Shalin asked, a lot more cognizant-sounding now. "At one point I thought about becoming one...but I like the freedom of doing just freelance work when I need it. I'm sure I'd get the Stunky-eye from coworkers, too."
After several more minutes of small talk, Shalin rose to a sitting, then eventually standing, position next to Sol. Queen Zing, having followed at a distance, closed the gap and landed near Sol as well. "Come on out!" Shalin released her other three Pokémon near the water. She gestured toward her five Pokémon, all of them tacked up. "I'm Shalin Nariya, the wildest rider this side of Arciel! Well...maybe sometimes a bit too much so," she laughed at the whole situation with Sol and Artemis, all of it behind her.
"This is Sol," the short, long-haired female gestured toward the Volcarona; "Queen Zing," the Beedrill gently rumbled her wings upon hearing her name, trying her best to not look menacing; "Prance," a restless-looking Stantler; "Serena," a Persian that walked toward Mina and purred affectionately; "and Levy," a Milotic splashing about far enough from the shore to be in sufficiently deep water for its massive body. All five of them were quite big for their species.
After stretching her arms and legs, the girl carefully jumped back on her Volcarona. "Where are you headed, Mina?" she asked as Sol began warming up his wings. "I'm headed north to Bass City then across the sea to Ivy Town - want to get in one more swim with the Water-types before it gets too cold. One of my Pokémon could get you there in a hurry if you wanted!"

The girl, Mina Wade, was a Ranger? With this kind of lapse in judgment? And with how badly she spooked when Alicia yelled at her? “Must be newly initiated,” Alicia commented before she even thought about it. Then she winced a bit mentally, thinking of how badly that could come out, especially if it was wrong. She could only hope the young Ranger didn’t hear her, as she’d commented after Mina noticed a Shellder of all things in the waves and focused on it.
At least this time she was able to keep the half-sarcastic thought of ‘more then a bit’ to herself. Or was it really to herself? The girl was partnered with an Abra, was even her personal thoughts possibly on air to a psychic like that? She kept a close eye on the pair for a moment to see if there was any reaction from them. But she should at least get in on the introductions.
“Anyways, I’m Alicia Westfield. She’s Reeshra, that’s Makaro-“ she paused to bring tge rest of her own team out. No dogs anywhere in this team, but plenty of foxes, all but one of them were a fox of some description. The only non-fox was introduced next, the seal barking happily. “Here’s Belrina, that’s Sefarr, and here’s Fairlee.”
The Popplio and Sefarr took the moment while everyone was taking an unintended break to play around in the waves, splashing each other as they did with yips and barks from the two of them. Fairlee, the careful one of the pair, huffed and kept a close eye on her partner. While by now she trusted the rest of Alicia’s team, the chance of trouble cropping up again wasn’t something to be ignored. Someone had to keep an eye on the one most likely to get in trouble as a result.
“Okay, lets try here...” another voice came over, a bit distant. “Maybe try and get a rainbow backdrop going? Wobbuffet, gimme a Mirror Coat to work with!” Off further down the beach, it seemed a young lass was trying to make something work with some reflected lighting tricks and some attempt at striking a few poses. She... was obviously new to her own pursued line, as she looked more lame then anything else. She wasn’t sticking her stance quite right, and her Wobbuffet wasn’t able to quite give her the effect she was looking for.
Alicia left them be, not really feeling like picking a needless fight. Being challenged was one thing, but bothering someone who was busy running through her routine just to possibly take away the asset they were practicing with? That just wasn’t in her nature. And even if it was, just a quick run through of what her team could do compared to Wobbuffet itself it just wasn’t a fight that would pan out well. Sure she could have one of her Vulpix attempt to disable the Mirror Coat and get a few free hits in. But that required one of them to actually survive the return blast, and she didn’t bank on that playing out the way she wanted it to. Between not wanting to in the first place and doing so being a bad idea to even the untrained eye, Alicia left possibly the next super star to her own devices
“Just mind, Mina, that if you do decide to hitch a ride Shalin’s team can be pretty... interesting rides.” She finished when Shalin offered a ride to wherever Mina had to go. Alicia decided to let the Ranger figure out for herself what the pinkette explorer meant.
"Yeah, newly joined Ranger." Mina rubbed the back of her neck self consciously. "So far it isn't bad... but then again I really haven't had to do too much yet." Mina took a few steps out of the water, and onto the sandy beach. She could feel the waves of negative energy coming from Alicia. Mina sat down, and acted as normally as possible. She couldn't react, otherwise her secret would be out.
"Woah..." she exclaimed softly. "They seem so ..." Mina was at a loss for words. They were happy, healthy, and beautiful. "Nice to meet all of you! You, unfortunately, met Artemis." Mina gestured to the Abra. "And you saw my newest member." Mina held up her pokeball, letting the Shellder out, whom immediately went to play with the Poplio and Sefarr. "And this is Bernadette" Mina tossed a pokeball into the air, unleashing her Burmy.
"Like I said, newly instated Ranger, so I don't have many partners yet. But I will work hard, and prove I am capable of this." Mina smiled brightly. "Bass city is where I live! Its a lovely town. I would love to go to Cedar Town, maybe continue on to Birch City." She glanced at her Abra one last time.
Mina watched as her partners introduced themselves to Shalin's pokemon. It was nice seeing them getting along. Artemis seemed rather intent to make amends with Sol.
"An interesting ride?" Mina said slowly. That sounded dangerous, yet oddly fun. Mina knew she needed to try to make amends with Alicia and Shalin as well. "Well, I could go for a short ride. Perhaps afterwards, if you wanted, I could accompany you to Bass City? I could have a lovely lunch for all of you." Mina smiled gently.
Today was a strange day, but maybe in a weird sort of way, she would make some friends.

Shalin couldn't help but agree aloud with Alicia's assessment of Mina as a Ranger. "Everyone has to start somewhere," she tried to reassure the girl and her Abra. "Prance here was the first Pokémon I learned to control a mount with!" The Stantler walked toward Shalin, carrying an apricorn fruit between her teeth. "Hey, where'd you find that?" she turned toward the Normal-type. Sol hovered as close to the ground as he could, Shalin reaching back to open the side of her bag where she stored the rest of them. "Hey, can you put that in here please?" Prance did as asked, the blonde promptly closing the bag. Sol immediately started hovering a little higher in the air to avoid risking a crash.
The Volcarona slowly hovered toward Artemis, doing his best to put on a smile. He didn't want to get too close - Psychic-types were especially sensitive to being near flying insects. Though the wings weren't moving fast enough for humans to hear the telltale buzzing noise, perhaps Artemis had more sensitive hearing. While the Volcarona wasn't particularly chatty with the psychic-type, it looked like he at least accepted the apology and briefly made small talk, explaining that he already hurt his trainer by accident and didn't want to hurt anyone else.
"That would be wonderful...though where in Birch City?" Shalin asked in regards to lunch, tentatively accepting Mina's offer. "Hopefully not too close to the city center - the tall buildings make me dizzy! I'd get lost! Plus there's...the people..." Her voice trailed off as Sol hovered a little farther from Artemis. "Sorry, some big city folk just...just agitate me!" She covered her mouth briefly. "Not you in particular, just...I don't find many of them pleasant." Queen Zing in particular seemed enthusiastic when Mina mentioned she wanted to hop on one of Shalin's Pokémon. The giant bee crawled over to the Ranger's side and gently nudged her arm with the broad side of one of her forearm stings, her red eyes beading - it was the closest expression she had to a smile. The rest of her team watched intently as well, Serena also stepping closer to Mina. "She's sweet as can be," Shalin assured. "She wouldn't hurt anyone unless asked!"

Alicia sighed softly, before quirking an eyebrow at Mina. There was trying to brush off things so that one could get onto the right foot. Then there was what she felt Mina was doing, trying too hard to pretend nothing was wrong. Perhaps she needed to be worried about the trainer directly picking up on her? It would make sense for a Psychic type to be drawn to someone who was inherently psychic.
Curiousity struck her, and she turned her Aura Sight on passively to see if anything came up as ‘odd’ about the Ranger. “No name for the Shellder yet, huh?”
It was a fair thing, all told. She had just caught the bivalve. Part of her wondered if it was the same one that had sprayed her earlier. Still, the Shellder managed to mingle nicely with the Popplio and the Eevee. Then Mina related that she was living in Bass City. “Well we can at least escort you back so you can properly prepare. We’re heading to Bass ourselves.” Alicia noted.
She then glanced over as Shalin talked a bit. “... Yeah I can see why. A large number of people can get really snobby and self-entitled. I can’t blame you for being irritated by them.” She commented over Shalin not getting along with most city folk. There was also the possibility she’d gotten some ridicule for her choice of mounts. Which made her concerned about any stress she might’ve caused Shalin with her warning to Mina.
Still, if Shalin was upset about it, she didn’t seem to show it. While the pair of them squared things away ride-wise, Alicia side tracked towards a near by bush and snagged a pair of Persim Berries she saw hanging in the wild. They just might be useful one day...
Everyone has to start somewhere. Those words echoed within Mina's head. Sometimes the blonde girl had to remind herself that she isn't going to be great at everything right off the bat. It takes hard work, practice, patience, and lots of time. Shalin was a testiment to that. Prancer, the Stantler, was the first pokemon she had trained to ride. Yet now she had an entire team of mountable pokemon!
Artemis however floated gently nearby Sol. Artemis continued with the small talk, but then realized everything was going to be alright. Perhaps in another setting, they could talk more. However Sol wasn't really interested right now. Artemis teleported away, back to Mina's side.
"Honestly, I'm not too sure where I want to go in Birch City" Mina ran her fingers through her hair. "I just feel like that is where I need to be right now. Following the winds of fate, I suppose." Her voice trailed off Mina trailed off lost in her own thoughts when the Beedrill appeared before her, nudging her. Artemis poked her head around Mina's watching the giant bug pokemon intently. Artemis then nudged her head against the Ranger's other arm, as if guiding her to the Beedrill. "She does seem rather sweet." Mina laughed gently, as she raised a hand, and gently pet Queen Zing on top of the head, behind the antennae.
Alicia seemed to be watching her intently, Mina shifted nervously, but kept her attention on Zing. "No, not yet. Perhaps in a bit once I get to know her a bit better." Mina smiled sweetly. "She seems to be enjoying herself though!"
"Yeah, some City folk can be..." her voice trailed off, Mina thought carefully on how to word it. "a bit cold. However, non city folks also have to remember that we all aren't that way. There is good and bad in all of us. Where you live, where you're from, it doesn't define you. Your choices do." Mina finished softly. Hopefully she didn't anger these two girls. Nervously she looked around, she felt like Alicia was staring at her, as small blush appearing upon her cheeks.
Mina scanned the beach, and it looks like another pokemon steped out to see what was going on. A small Espurr peeking around. Mina smiled and waved at it. "Well, aren't you just the sweetest thing?" she cooed softly. "I would love to take you back to the temple and show my Grandfather! Would you like to join me on an adventure?" Mina asked softly as she rolled a pokeball towards the Espurr.
