How would you describe yourself? Alison definitely seemed well-eager for the interview. One knee bounced excitedly, and there was an impatient expression on her face. Her chin rested in one hand as she tilted her head thoughtfully. Introspection, huh? She supposed that was a pretty important thing to be capable of. "Uh, well, I'd like to think I'm pretty kind and down-to-earth and stuff. My parents were ve~ry particular about making sure I matured and had like, empathy, while also letting me be a kid", she answered, followed by a moment's hesitation, then an affirming nod. "Aside from that, I'd say I'm pretty laid-back, despite all my energy, but when it comes down to stuff that actually matters, or doing what I want, I can be quite driven! I'm friendly and welcoming and all that fun stuff, and I like helping people out. It helps that it's pretty hard to get me down, and even if I do get sad, I spring back up pretty quick anyway! I guess overall, I'm sorta uh...like a big sister, I guess? That kinda vibe!" Indeed, she did have that kind of feel to her, that of a particularly chipper person with a more hidden, mature, empathetic side. Why are you interested in the class you've chosen? That question earned a bit of a chuckle, and unlike before, the answer was practically instant. It was like she didn't even need to think about it, her reply already on the tip of her tongue. "Well, I grew up surrounded by strong Pokemon, and my parents were amazing trainers, so I guess it's just natural! I'm too competitive for something slow-paced like breeding, and admittedly a little too hot-blooded for something safer, like being a coordinator." Why are you interested in training in Arciel? Why not another region? "Well, I was born here, y'know? Best to travel your own region first before running off somewhere else!", she replied. "I know this place better than any other region, so it's safer here, too." What do you consider your best attributes? They can be physical, mental, social, or anything else. That was another question that made her think for a few minutes. It was a little odd to see the young woman, normally so bursting with energy, actually take a pause and think so carefully. In truth, it was something of an indicator of her answer, or perhaps proof that she had made an accurate assessment of herself. "Well, I'm pretty great with Pokemon, but that's kinda a boring answer. I guess my best attribute is that I'm good at putting people - or Pokemon - at ease. I know I seem super-energetic with no breaks, but I know when to pull back and take things slow, and not push too hard so they can get used to me at their own pace." What do you consider your worst attributes? Be honest, now! The brunette gave an awkward chuckle as that question was asked, and nervously fiddled with one of her twintails. "Uh, well, hm...I guess I'm kinda a sore loser? I'm not really too used to actually, y'know, losing. But even then, I tend to get back to normal after a while! Just gotta give me a little to get over my grumpiness first." Aside from that, there was another weakness of hers, though it was something Alison herself wasn't even fully aware of. Her genuine sincerity, combined with that desire to help, also had the tendency to make her come off as patronising, or a know-it-all. What was your childhood like? How was school? Alison felt fortunate that the questioning had taken a less embarrassing turn. Actually talking about her weaknesses wasn't something she was familiar with, but her past? That was easy! "Pretty good childhood, actually! I know a lot of people aren't as lucky, but I didn't have to deal with any trauma or anything like that. I just had a nice, simple childhood with parents who love me, and took pretty well to the whole parenting thing too. Like I said before, they were very particular about making sure I grew up to be nice and mature and understanding. They were both trainers, and really strong ones, so I grew up around lots of tough Pokemon, like my mum's Garchomp and Tyranitar. My dad actually prefers the more elegant type, funnily enough. His Hatterene and Lucario were practically my babysitters!" There was almost a visible sparkle in her eyes as she rambled about the Pokemon, hands moving to clasp over her lap. After a pause, mostly to remember things and get her thoughts back on track, Alison continued. "Anyway, school. That was pretty good too, I guess? A bit rigid for me, admittedly, but I made a lot of friends. I was kinda the popular girl, but not the bitchy queen bee sort you see on TV shows and stuff!" How is your relationship with your family? Apparently, talking about her family was something that Alison enjoyed doing, because her normally-bright smile grew somewhat at the question. "It's great! They're super caring and understanding, probably 'cause they were both trainers when they were younger too, like I said. That's how they met, actually! Anyway, yeah, they're really supportive and happy to help out." What do you like to do for fun? "I have a few hobbies, actually! I mean, there's the obvious answer of 'training', but that's a cliche one. I really like swimming, so I do plenty of that when I can! There's also cooking, especially spicy or sweet stuff. My parents are from Galar, so my mum taught me plenty of curry recipes and stuff." She took a second to play with her hair once more, seemingly thinking further. "Oh, I guess I do like singing sometimes, but I'm not like, super great or anything." What are your feelings on romance? Whereas some might have been a little embarrassed about the question, the blue-eyed trainer seemed to take it completely in stride, not caring at all about such a personal question. "Well, I guess I'm pretty open! I'm not really sure whether I could get into a proper poly relationship, but I'm not a prude or anything either. Admittedly, I do have more experience with flings and stuff rather than any actual steady relationships. I know I'm bi, at least, 'cause I've been with a guy and a girl, and they were both fine. Guy was a cheating dick though, admittedly..." The way Alison spoke actually betrayed a decent part of her personality. Shameless, crude, flighty...there were probably others that those with certain opinions could have imagined too, but those were the ones that were definitely there, anyway. What are your goals for the future? Short-term and long-term. Another question that provoked a few moments of thought for Alison. Perhaps a little amusing, given her off-the-cuff ranting from the last question. "Huh. Uh, well, getting stronger, I guess? Kinda boring, but I am a trainer. Obviously I wanna see the region, but there's nothing that really comes to mind short term. Long term though...I wanna meet an Ultra Beast. Not to fight it for revenge or anything like that, but 'cause I'm not really sure they're as evil as people make 'em out to be. I mean, wouldn't you be scared and lash out if you were dumped into a totally unfamiliar, alien place?" There was a surprising amount of conviction, and perhaps a slightly accusatory tone, to the young trainer's answer. Clearly, it was something she had strong feelings about, and whereas most people's strong feelings towards the Ultra Beasts were likely hatred, she almost seemed...protective? If you could be a Pokemon, what species or typing would you choose and why? Alison chuckled a little, and returned to playing with her hair. She still seemed a little intense after the last question, but was quickly cooling down, too. "From a deep question to a light one, huh? That's actually a tough one though, they've all got their merits. Dragons are super tough, Ice and Water are usually really pretty, Ghost are mysterious and cool...I guess it'd have to be one of those?" What do Pokemon mean to you? Alison clicked her tongue and tilted her head in thought as the question was asked, blue eyes narrowing slightly as she spoke to herself internally. That was a loaded question, with so many different ways to be answered. It was probably the last one though, you don't ask that kinda thing off the bat in the middle of the interview... "A lot, I guess. It's hard to narrow it down to a few things in particular, or even with just words in general. They're a part of my life though, I guess. I grew up with them, and I'll continue to grow with them. I hope, anyway." Anything else you'd like to tell us about before you go? Well, that guess was right, at least. No more questions! She did like answering questions, though, admittedly. "Uh, nothing comes to mind? I think. I'll probably think of something super obvious and important later on and kick myself for not thinking of it now, though..." |
