How would you describe yourself? The man sighs and leans back, face tilted up towards the ceiling for a moment before snapping his head back down to answer. "Starting off with the hard questions immediately, huh?" He gives a wry smile before continuing. " I'd say I'm someone who lost his way early on in life. Someone who is now trying to find a new path," his expression shifts between something like annoyance and uncertainty. Was the answer too philosophical? Still, that was what came to mind... "Guess I'm a bit lost. I know who I used to be. I know who I'd like to be. Who I am..." again a wry smile twists the corner of his mouth, without ever reaching his eyes. "Who I am in this moment is neither of those two things. We all grow in life, and I'm not done growing." He sinks down a bit, as though the last reflection took a bit more out of him than one might expect. Why are you interested in the class you've chosen? At this question he perks back up a bit and, perhaps for the first time, something like joy creeps into his eyes. His expression has grown unexpectedly soft, looking almost out of place on the man. "It was my ma's job! When I was a wee kid I spent time around her and all the newly hatched pokémon she cared for," the words pour out from him, unrestrained and warm. Emotions flit over his face and it's like he catches himself, looking at once uncomfortable and perhaps embarrassed. Drawing a hand through his hair he composes himself, though there are still traces of that same warmth so plainly present only moments ago. "Growing up, young pokémon were my friends. Maybe even my brother and sisters, given how much ma cared for them," he continues to explain. "Now I've lost my family and the friends I had... well, guess they weren't actually my friends. Thought I could make a new family, new friends," his gaze darts away, avoiding contact. Some things are embarrassing to admit. "Anyway, when I think of the most admirable thing to devote my time to the image of ma is what always springs to mind. So why not?" Why are you interested in training in Arciel? Why not another region? He blinks in surprise. "I was born here, I guess?" he blinks a couple of times more. "Just seems to make sense to stay here. Nothing is pulling me anywhere else, no offence to other regions," he finishes with a shrug. What do you consider your best attributes? They can be physical, mental, social, or anything else. "When I care, I care deeply. I'm passionate," he responds almost immediately, fire lighting up his eyes. "I get told I should move to Pine Town, that I'd fit right in there. I might not be polished, but I look out for me and mine." He rolls his shoulders a bit, flexing his muscles almost as though preparing for a fight. "And I don't back down when I decide to fight for something," there's determination in his eyes and his expression is almost grim, until a grin breaks through, giving him a mischievous look. "Though I guess that's also gotten me into trouble." After that he seems to think for a moment and he opens his mouth as though he's about to mention something more, but then promptly shuts it, shaking his head slowly . What do you consider your worst attributes? Be honest, now! "I have a temper," he admits, making a dismissive gesture. "Sometimes it makes me act without thinking, gets me into trouble, but..." he falls silent and winces. Rather than finishing the sentence out loud he simply lets it hang in the air. In the privacy of his own mind, however, the words 'but worst of all is you can also hurt or cause trouble for those you care about' . He shakes his head, this time rather violently, as though he might physically dislodge the thoughts and memories in his head. "What else..? Well, I guess the fact that I'm still a bit... lost. Yeah, that's not the greatest either." Even though he talks about it, there isn't the same type of weight to the latter statement as there was to the first. It seems to bother him less. What was your childhood like? How was school? His eyebrows raise into a strained expression. "Wow... well it feels like a lifetime ago. Damned if I remember," he says in the tone of someone who doesn't really understand why it even matters anymore. "Got into some trouble for being lazy, but my grades were good enough so it wasn't ever too bad. School just didn't challenge me that much back then," though it could easily sound like bragging, the tone doesn't seem to indicate that he thinks of it as a good thing. If anything he looks troubled. "Anyways, when I was real little I spent a lot of time with ma and pokémon, like I said. Getting older I argued a lot with the old man. Ma took his side. Things got worse the older I got." he shrugs, as though it's an old tale. Nothing new here. How is your relationship with your family? "They're dead," his expression as he says this is stony and his tone of voice unnaturally even, yet somehow that conveys the pain behind the words. What do you like to do for fun? The side of his mouth twitches upwards, not quite a smile but at least the shadow of one. "Nowadays I mostly just enjoy spending time with pokémon and learning to care for them," he raises an eyebrow, as though expecting someone to argue against him on this particular point. "Had some other hobbies or habits, but I've dropped them," he says with a shrug. "I think I'll have to find some more, I guess, to replace what I got rid of. For now though, I just try and keep busy." What are your feelings on romance? "It's nice, if you find it," once again he shrugs. "I would like to find it for myself, but I dunno... seems difficult." What are your goals for the future? Short-term and long-term. "First off, I want to fill my life with pokémon to care for and make my family, and then..." he hesitates. "You know, I haven't thought all that far, but I reckon making the world slightly better... somehow? That's a worthy goal, right?" A vague answer, but when you're just trying to find yourself again, or reshape yourself into someone you like a bit more it's just difficult to define very clear goals. Besides, not being able to define his own goals, maybe that was part of what made things go awry in the first place. If you could be a Pokemon, what species or typing would you choose and why? "Fire of course. Just look at my hair," he points and gives a short laugh. "Besides, there's also my temper." What do Pokemon mean to you? Right now? Everything," his expression and tone are dead serious. "They're my hope for a different future." And a different me, he silently added in his own mind. "By and large I prefer pokémon to people, but I also think pokémon make people be... better people. I hope to do for them as they do for me." Anything else you'd like to tell us about before you go? He actually seems to give it genuine thought, but then just shakes his head. "Nah." Starting to rise from his seat, he then suddenly freezes up and plops back down, pointing towards the exit with a questioning look. "I'm free to go now, right?" and waits for confirmation before he goes, even though he gives off the impression that he'd be difficult to stop if he decided he wanted to leave. |
Appearance
Height 6'4" / 193cm Build Medium/Muscled Hair Color Red Eye Color Amber | He is tall and while not overly muscled, the combination of his build with sheer height can make him intimidating. The fact that his expression is oftentimes severe does not help his case. However, when he does smile his features soften significantly and he can look downright approachable. His style of dress is usually simple, slim fitted t-shirts and jeans if the weather allows for it. If it's a little bit cooler he'll take to wearing a jacket or coat, often in darker colours. Somehow his style combined with his expression and how he carries himself makes him look like a bit of a thug. To a certain extent it's a leftover from his past, but he's found that even if he puts on a suit he just ends up looking closer to a mob-boss. He does like accessories; necklaces, belts, bracelets and rings. The red hair is usually styled in a way to keep it back and away from his face, but stray strands sometimes get out of position and fall into his eyes, and a habit of pulling his hands through his hair often leaves it messier the longer the day wears on. Aura The most eye-catching is the burning red and ashen grey that seems to swirl like smoke and flame. It moves restlessly around him, shifting in shape and intensity. In particularly bad times, small wisps of grey may darken towards black. All in all, there is more red than grey. Upon closer inspection one will find a more mellow and warm orange tint at the core of the flames, as well as other spots burning a hot blue. The biggest change is when he's focused on a pokémon he finds particularly cute or whom he's very close to, then the warm orange seems to chase away a lot of the smoke, and the movements get calmer as well. It's possible this change applies to humans he treasures as well. Naturally you'll find sparks of other colours dancing around in there, but they're often brief and difficult to pin down or spot among the red, orange and grey. |

Both his parents died during the attack from the Ultra Beasts. His relationship to them had been strained due to his life choices and thus they hadn't had much contact lately. The realisation that he wouldn't be able to make up with them and that none of the hurtful things he said and did for reasons that now seem inane will be all he managed to convey. The death of his parents threw him into a long time of mourning, then reflection over who he was and who he wanted to be, ultimately prompting him to switch his life around. Ultimately he's chosen to pursue the same walk of life as his mother. Eventually he learned his mother had stored away one pokémon she'd bred for him (intending this to be the egg and/or starter).
