Crisp autumn air sat in the sky since the wind was off hiding somewhere else. It was unusually warm for an autumn day, or at least what autumn considered warm. Ilma was still bundled up quite a bit. Her short, frail frame wasn't good with any sort of cold, and it shown with her outfit.
A thick, faux fur lined skirt and opaque leggings kept her bottom half warm. An old pinky-tan cableknit sweater and a plain gray scarf kept her top half warm. And a plain gray hat and gloves, and simple black boots finished off her outfit. Her brown backpack with old copper accents was snugly on her back, left partially open on accident. In her hands was Little Bear, who had on a pullover hoodie that was the same color as Ilma's sweater.
The two looked out of place for the weather, but both were unaware.
"Today's the day. We're brave! We'll see this region, one step at a time!" She thought telepathically to Little Bear, who let out a light but excited grunt, and gave the nervous human some mental encouragement.

Cricket and her Ponyta were walking beneath a tree near the beginning of Route 1, Cricket chattering idly at her Pokemon and Ponyta nodding dutifully along with her rambles. Cricket was dressed in a short-sleeved tie-dye shirt in pink, blue, and white, with a pair of leggings covered in tiled designs of Spritzee and Swirlix. Ponyta wore absolutely nothing for clothing today, since she was constantly on fire, but she was carrying Cricket's bag in her mouth as they walked.
Cricket stopped when she spotted another trainer. She assessed the situation; she noticed that the person's clothes were awfully warm for the seasonably nice weather, but she wouldn't judge on something so silly! She doesn't know that person's situation, after all, and maybe they've got some kind of problem with the cold, or they're sick and don't want to get worse, or maybe they just felt like wearing a sweater today!
Finally, she noticed that the teddy bear in the trainer's arms was alive, and was a Teddiursa, and was wearing the cutest tiny hoodie Cricket had ever seen!
"Oh my goodness!" squealed Cricket, rushing over to the trainer. She slowed down as she approached, mindful of the fact that this was indeed a stranger, and stopped a few feet away, mindful of personal space. She was working on stuff, okay?
"Is that a Teddiursa? He's so cute! What's his name?" Cricket spoke rapidly and in a fairly high pitch, and Ponyta came trotting up after, nudging her with her head. "This is my Ponyta! I haven't named her yet, but she's a good girl and I love her."
Cricket neglected to give her own name, or ask after the trainer's name, but didn't notice out of sheer cute.
"Oh my goodness!" Was the only warning Ilma had before an energetic person not too much taller then herself quickly approached. This stranger was bold and colorful, and full of words.
"Ursa! Tedi di ursa!" boldly complained Little Bear, bapping her little paw on Ilma's arm while complaining about the suddenness of the stranger. The gentle taps from the careful teddiursa reminded Ilma that there was a person waiting for her response.
A response she couldn't give. Not vocally, at least.
But wait, how had she spotted Ilma? Did... Did she hear her when Ilma spoke telepathically to Little Bear? No, that couldn't be it. People usually needed a warning before hand.
There was no way she could speak, so seeing if this stranger was open mentally already was worth a try. Ilma mustered up the courage to reach out to her telepathically.
"H-Hello? Can you hear me? I-I'm Ilma.. and.. a-and this is Little Bear.." Even though no vocal cords were used this way, her voice was still gentle and quiet. If this colorful stranger could hear her, it'd make communicating much easier. But just in case she couldn't, Ilma waved her hand, pointed at her throat, and shook her head to try and indicate that she couldn't speak.

Cricket tipped her head, confused when the trainer didn't speak, but then seemed to hear the voice in her head. Her eyes widened in surprise and her grin widened even more.
"Oh! Oh gosh that's so cool, you're talking in my head! What's that called, t-telepathy? Uh, I'm Cricket! It's great to meet you both!!" Her voice was higher pitched than usual out of sheer excitement, but she realized this and toned it down a little more.
"We're traveling today, do you maybe want to come with us? It's okay if you don't!" Cricket added, bouncing a little on her heels. "We can go it alone, but it's more fun with friends, isn't it Ponyta?" She patted the horse on the head, which earned her a gentle chuffing noise.
Sh-She heard? She heard! It worked! Ohh this was exciting. A bit scary, too, but mostly exciting! "Yeah, telepathy. I-It's nice to meet you too, Cricket and Ponyta." She said gently, stuttering less out of her excitement of being heard.
Ilma smiled softly when Cricket offered to travel together. There was safety in numbers, right? She looked down at Little Bear, who nodded eagerly and swung her feet a bit. "T-Traveling together sounds good. It's safer that way, right?" The question was more rhetorical, but it was still there. But what if they weren't going in the same direction? "Where are a-are you heading to? I'm going to Ce-Cedar Town."

"Safer and more fun! Thank you!" Cricket was overjoyed about having a traveling companion to talk to, aside from Ponyta of course. Her huge grin was probably infectious, but she wasn't sure if the shy trainer she'd just met would be so inclined to smile with her. "We're going to Cedar too, so we're already going the same way! Maybe we'll run into some cool Pokemon before we get there?"
After arranging to put some new eggs into her party for hatching reasons using her phone to access her boxes, bouncy Cricket and her Ponyta were ready to start walking, so Cricket said, "Whenever you're ready!!"
She did very much hope they'd run into some interesting Pokemon, maybe some she hadn't seen before!
Cricket was so energetic and friendly that Ilma couldn't help but to smile gently when she had. If she's this nice, maybe she'd make a good friend too. "I'd like that," she said telepathically, "I-I'd like to have more pokemon to care for, and Little Bear doesn't fight.."
She watched her new travel companion organize her party, bringing out quite a few eggs. Once Cricket seemed organized, Ilma hesitantly started walking, "Do, uh, do you mind telling me how you and your pokemon met?" She asked carefully, "I want to become a researcher.."
Seeing the pokemon eggs made Ilma curious about them. They weren't new news to her, but she had forgotten that it was a possibility. She privately told Little Bear to keep an eye out for any eggs that looked abandoned, and teddiursa eagerly agreed.

"Oh! Me and Ponyta met.. uh.. I don't remember exactly where, but she decided to join me from the wild when I first got to Arciel!" Cricket scratched the horse between the ears, remaining unburned by her flames even so. "And everyone else.. We caught Pidgey together, there was a lot of them on Route 1 at once, and then I got Litten from a trade, I had a bunch of extra eggs and someone wanted to swap! I also have a Frillish and a Starly from eggs I got. I get them from this one service, I can order two every week! I've got a lot of potential friends in these eggs!" Cricket patted her bag, where the four eggs sat in their Poke Balls. "They take up a lot of party space, but they're worth hatching to see what I get!"
Ponyta gave a happy little prance. She loved seeing what Pokemon would come out of eggs that her trainer picked up!
"I also breed new eggs myself at the Daycare center! It's really neat to see what kind of neat babies you'll get from combinations of parents."
Eggs! It seems as if most of Cricket's team is from eggs, which made the timid Ilma even more curious about hatching her own. Ilma smiled at hearing the story and the enthusiasm Cricket had for eggs, "R-Raising them from eggs sounds so.. rewarding.." She said telepathically, "D-Do you breed eggs, o-or maybe study them?"
Little Bear swung her feet lightly, listening to the conversation and enjoying the thought of helping raise a pokemon with Ilma. The sweater wearing teddiursa was unknowingly humming a halfhearted tune from the enjoyment of the thought.
Ilma felt the need to explain some more of her team since Cricket was kind enough to, and mustered up the courage to speak telepathically again, "I, uh, I also have a delcatty and appletun w-with me.." her courage to speak faded, and with that, her sentence. What if she didn't want to hear about her pokemon? She had so many ones of her own that Ilma's self doubt crept in and prevented her from sating more.
