The early bird gets the worm, and Ilma was an unsually early bird today. Bundled up against the autumn air as if there were feet of snow on the ground, she tentatively wandered into a small cafe who had just opened they're doors for the day.
"Good morning! What can I get you?" Asked the barista at the counter, his chipper voice cutting through the silence with ease. "Decaf coffee, light cream, no sugar?" signed Ilma, but seeing the confused look on the barista's face, she knew he didn't know sign language. So she took out her trusty notepad and pencil, and write her order down to show him.
The entire time, Little Bear was clung to the backpack on her back, comforting her mentally with her telepathic line she had going between them. Without the teddiursa, Ilma was pretty sure she'd be unable to even interact with others.
With her order in hand, she found a seat at a bench in the corner of the cafe near the window. Little Bear sat on the table right next to her, playing with the simple blue scarf she had put on him this morning.
The nice, peaceful atmosphere of the cafe was instantly broken when the door opened, and a certain tall, lanky man swaggered into the room. The scarf around his neck flapped behind him, as he strode over to a table, immediately sitting himself down and leaning back. Though he hadn't said anything yet, his very presence seemed to have a loud quality to it.
The barista noticed him, and her smile instantly faded. "What'll it be Marley?" she spoke up, her voice lacking the gentle edge she had given Ilma earlier. The young man in the eyepatch smiled. "I'll 'ave the usual," he said in a thick accent, "Coffee, two creams, three sugars, and a bagel with cream cheese." He smirked and leaned back in his seat, casual as can be. It's at this point one would notice that he wasn't alone. A Zorua had follewed him in, and parked itself on another seat. "And some bacon for my little buddy 'ere," Marley said, as the little pokemon gave a small yap. The barista gave the small pokemon a small smile, before getting to the order.
The peaceful mood of the morning was broken by a terrifying looking man who seemed to be a regular here. He was over a foot taller then her, and seemed to be named Marley. Though tough looking, his order did sound good. Ilma got out her notepad and copied down his order, then tore out the paper and handed it to Little Bear.
"Di di!" Little Bear exclaimed excitedly, taking the paper and jumping down from the table. She then made her way around the back of the counter and handed the note to the barista.
"Oh, the same thing for you two? Sure thing. Coming right up." They said, their smile and kind voice returning while interacting with the teddiursa.
With her mission completed, Little Bear ran back to her spot next to Ilma, and perked her head up proudly. Ilma smiled gently, and mentally praised her pokemon while petting her on the head. Once the affection was over, the happy Teddiursa looked over at the Zorua that followed this Marley guy in curiously. They were about the same height, but she was a much lighter color then the black and red pokemon. Little Bear waved at them, trying to get the pokemon's attention. Its fur looked so soft, and Little Bear wanted to see if it was as soft as it looked.
As Marley sat back at his table, waiting for his order, his one visible eye noticed a little Teddiursa walking along the floor to the counter, offering the waitress a piece of paper. He raised a curious eyebrow as he listened in, learning that it was ordering the same thing as he was having. He watched the little pokemon make its way back to its trainer, a pretty, young woman who didn't say a single word.
Alley, who was perched on the table, watched them as well. She tilted her head curiously as the little bear pokemon turned its attention to her, giving a small wave. The dark type blinked, looking back and forth between the little pokemon and her trainer. Marley certainly noticed. "You want to head over there Alley?" he asked, before giving the little pokemon a smile. "Sure, go right ahead." Alley gave a small, happy yelp before jumping down from the table, walking over to the pair. She looked between the little Teddiursa and its trainer.
Little Bear saw the stranger's pokemon notice her wave, and hopped a little bit out of joy. A new friend! Maybe this could help Ilma warm up to other people's pokemon more.
Ilma watched Little Bear with hesitant curiosity, however. She wasn't so sure about the man who came in with it. While he was nice enough to let her come over here, he still looked quite intimidating. She wanted to say something to him, but the chances that she could reach his mind with no warning was uncommon.
Instead, she did her classic move. After waving a little and making sure he was looking, he tapped the front of her throat lightly and shook her head. Hopefully he'd understand this as her not having a voice. "H-How should I.. I, uh, thank him for letting you meet his pokemon?" She asked telepathically to Little Bear, uncertain what to do.
If he already knew about psychics, or if his mind was open enough, he would be able to hear her. But that wasn't a common occurrence. She felt some anxiousness start to swell. What if he was mean to her because she didn't show respect?
Well, at least the pokemon seemed happy to be able to mingle. Little Ally approached them, smiling at the Teddiursa as she looked over her. The little pokemon seemed nice enough, though she couldn't help notice that the trainer seemed a little bit on the nervous side. Was she shy? Or was she actually scared of her and Marley? She knew her trainer had a tendency to look like someone you wouldn't want to meet in a dark ally, but he was nice once you got to know him.
Marley noticed her tapping her throat and instantly picked up on what she was saying. So, the poor girl was mute huh? He could relate. Sure, he still had his other eye, but the sensitivity to light pretty much made it unusable unless he was in a dark room. Maybe that's why she was shy.
Marley slowly got up from his seat and walked over to her. He had a small smile on his face, just to let her know he didn't mean any harm to her. "Mornin'," he said, glancing at the two pokemon before back at her, gesturing to the enmpty seat at the table. "This seat taken?"
Little Bear beamed with excitement as the zorua approached, she patted the table next to her to indicate that there's enough room for both of them.
When the trainer got up and walked over shortly after, Ilma felt her nervousness spike again. The short walk over to her table felt like forever, and the entire time she was mentally chanting "Please be nice." to herself. She visibly relaxed when he asked if the seat was taken, and seemed to show some consideration to him.
Ilma shook her head to indicate the seat was free, and motioned for him to take a seat. She then got her notepad back in her hands and wrote down Her handwriting was a bit shaky, as she was still nervous, but Little Bear was nearby and having a good time. She reached for the teddiursa, who let her trainer hold her paw while not breaking attention with Alley.
