Yes, Marley needed to get on with his journey. Yes, he needed to get to another town that wasn't named Birch or Pine. But the man was kicking himself for choosing to go out NOW, when it was freaking cold! Even with his coat and scarf on, the weather had a freezing bite. He had his arms wrapped around himself, trying to protect himself from the cold.
Thank goodness he had Smelter and Furnace with him.
The little Slugma and the Heatmor were walking alongside him. The innate heat they were radiating at least provided some level of comfort for the man. Who knows, perhaps he can take this time to help buff them up and get them stronger as well. Everything was an opportunity to get stronger, and Furnace could certainly use a boost. It wasn't long ago that she had been born after all.
It had come out of nowhere. More importantly, it came from Marley's blind spot, which was why the sudden burst of water, hitting him right in the face, caught him off guard. His two pokemon jumped back as Marley flailed, trying to push the burst of water away from him. When the attack died down, Marley swore he could hear...laughter? Turning his head, he could see, up in a tree, was a small Panpour. The damn thing had sneak attacked him as a prank, and it was now laughing at it all.
Marley let out a low growl. He figured the monkey had been bold enough, because it only saw the fire pokemon, and assumed it would be safe. Face cold and dripping wet, a sinister grin spread across his face. Oh, he was going to enjoy this.
With a flick of his wrist, there was a flash of light, and Amp the Magnemite appeared next to him. "Amp," Marley said simply.
The Panpour stopped laughing. She recognized an electric type when she saw one, and realized she was about to be on the receiving end of a painful beatdown. With a small sound like 'uh oh', she turned to run, only for Amp to blast her with a bolt of electricity. The monkey's limbs locked up mid jump as the Thunder Wave paralyzed her, causing her to fall to the ground.
Marley smirked. Now this was more like it. "Amp," he simply commanded. And that was all that needed to be said. The Panpour let out a cry of pain as Amp blasted her with a Thundershock.
Marley walked over to the water monkey on the ground, twitching from the shock. There was even a little steam coming off of her. "Not cool Monkey, not cool," Marley replied, before taking out a pokeball and bouncing it onto her head.
Marley looked down at the ball, watching it wriggle once, twice, and then the light flicked off. Granted, after taking a couple of shocks like that, Marley wasn't surprised it wasn't in the mood to escape from the ball. Really, staying in the ball was probably the safest move it could make right now.
He bent down and scooped up the ball. "Yer a bit of a dope," he said, before a smirk came across his face, "But a ballsy dope at that. Let's see what we can do with ya." He tucked the ball into his belt, before looking back at Amp. "Good job there mate," he said, before recalling the Magnemite. Now then, time to continue on to the next city.
Marley whistled a small tune, twirling the pokeball on his hands over and over again. His team had been lacking in the water department, and now this Panpour, whom he named Spritz, would make an interesting addition to the team.
And then, lo and behold, there was another. As Marley walked along, his eyes caught sight of something not too far away, a Binacle, waving back and forth near the water. Guess the little guy was chilling out and relaxing, after a day of...doing Binacle stuff.
And somewhere in Marley's soul, some small, malicious part of him came to life. Well, his pokemon could use a little training. without a word, he dropped a pokeball, and in a flash of light, Brawly appeared. "Hey, Brawly," Marley whispered, getting his pokemon's attention, "See that Binacle over there?" The Mankey blinked and looked over, seeing the unaware pokemon. "Go get 'em."
The poor Binacle didn't see it coming. One minute, it was chilling out, and the next, a rampaging Mankey was smacking him stupid. The poor thing didn't really stand a chance.
After what was a surprisingly quick beatdown, Marley was strolling down the road once again, following by Brawly, who was dusting himself off.
It had been a little while since Marley had encountered any other pokemon, apart from the unfortunate Binacle. Marley was raring to go again, and the Mankey had to be put back in his ball before he could cause any trouble for him.
As he walked along, he felt something against his foot. He looked down, noticing that it appeared to be an Apricorn. Marley bent down and scooped it up. "Well, what have we here?" If he remembered correctly, Apricorns were used to make pokeballs, right? Perhaps he could find someone to make it into one for him. Tucking it into his coat, he continued on his way.
As the sky started to darken, he could see the city lights up ahead. There. After a long day of travelling, they were finally here. Another step on Marley's journey to become the best pokemon trainer in all of Arciel. He let out a small sigh of triumph, looking at the two fire pokemon who had been keeping him warm this whole time. "We're almost there mates. Not long before ya get some grub." The slugma and the heatmore were more than happy to hear that.
And then, Marley noticed something nearby. A Zangoose, poking its head out from the grass, watching the group curiously. For a brief moment, Marley thought about moving to capture it. Nah. It was getting late. He gave the Zangoose a smile. "not today mate," he said, before the three of them continued on their way to the next town.
