The party was going wonderfully, but after some dancing and socializing Sage decided to step away to try the trick-or-treat maze she heard was upstairs. It sounded like fun, so she had scooped up Staccato, waving bye to the few people she had met and headed off with every intention of conquering this maze. Staccato was still chirping happily from the music, and she hummed absently as she climbed the stairs.
But once they reached the door, the noise had disappeared, replaced with an eerie silence. Sage was exhilarated, she had never done something like this. But she could feel Staccato shaking on her shoulder, so she pulled him down into her arms, murmuring quietly. "Its gonna be okay buddy, ya got this?" She asked uncertainly. They hadnt even walked in, but she didnt want to scare her poor pokemon. But the little Kricketot chirped indignantly. He would be fine. But he stayed in her arms. Just to be safe.
She chuckled at him, turning to the door, and took a breath. Then she opened the door and stepped into the maze.
You enter a room that looks bigger than it should. In front of you is a pit you cannot see the bottom of. Jutting up from the pit are stone pillars arranged in a 4x4 grid, with just enough space between them that it's possible to fall, but even a clumsy person should be able to jump between them with enough ease.
The tops of the pillars seem to have one glowing button each, and are engraved with images. The row of 4 on the far left side of the room depicts witch hats. The mid-left 4 depict moons. The mid-right 4 depict bats. The far right 4 depict pumpkins. At the front of the room is a backlit plaque with four pictures: A leaf, a wolf, an open set of fangs, and a broom, in that order.
Sage stared open-mouthed at the room around her. When she had heard it was a haunted maze she had expected to be jumped by ghost pokemon or something, like the weird corn mazes back from her hometown. This, was much much cooler. It was eerie, but fascinating. Admittedly the pit was intimidating, and as she walked up to the edge of pit, she squeezed Staccato a bit tighter. It was pitch black and impossible to see the bottom, and suddenly her awe was gone. Okay maybe this was a bit scary.
But there were pillars which would allow her to traverse it, and she noticed the designs on them, as well as the plaque on the opposite wall. Hmm a puzzle.
"Whatcha think Staccato?"
Of course the Kricketot only replied with chirps and buzzes, but she smiled nonetheless. He did enjoy being included.
But she frowned a bit when she turned her attention back to the puzzle. Clearly there was an order, a pattern to succeed, and if she didnt... well she imagined she would fail and wouldn't have a chance to go forward. So she took a few moments, looking at the designs and then back to the panel.
"Well, if the images on the panel correspond to images on the pillars... the only way that makes sense, is to connect them by association. That leaf must be from the pumpkin, the wolf howls at the moon, the fangs are probably from the bat, and a broom belongs to a witch just like the hat does."
Staccato chittered encouragingly, and Sage grinned back.
"Okay, so by that logic, all we have to do, is jump to the pumpkin in the first row, then over to the moon, then over to the moon in the second row, then to the bat in the third row, and then somehow over to the witches hat in the last row..." She paused to narrow her eyes at the pillars. That was a pretty far distance... could she make it. After a few moments of thoughtful silence, she shrugged. "Well I have to try it eventually. If I didnt get the puzzle that's that I guess." So she held Staccato and stepped forward.
She's stepping first on the pumpkin first row (far right) Attempting to get to the moon second row (mid-left) Then the fangs in the third row (mid-right) And hopefully making last big jump to the witch hat in the last row (far left)

All the pillars light up, and the door opens. You guessed correctly! Onto the next room!
You have entered the room.
What will you do?
You enter a room with walls lined with shelves containing all sorts of spooky oddities. To one side is a bubbling cauldron watched over by a Mismagius, and next to it a wrack of ingredients with a sign: "Complete the brew." Use the big wooden spoon to stir in ingredients, making a Cooking roll!
Sage jumped carefully from one pillar to the other, praying she didn't fall in. Staccatto whimpered from her arms as she nearly slipped. But she made each jump, and each pillar lit up brightly. She gave a little woop of exhilaration when she finally reached the other side.
"Made it! Alright Staccato, let's see what's next."
And without any hesitation she pushed straight into the next room. This one was clearly much different than the last one, it even had its own guardian.
Sage waved at the Mismagius. "Hello there! I see you have something cooking." She tried to take a sniff but unfortunately the rest of the room was filled with other ingredients and the smells were kind of overwhelming. Staccato stayed buried in her arms, nervous because of the Mismagius.
"Hmm, complete the Brew…" she read from the sign. "Well let's see what we have to work with!"
She wandered the room, taking her time. She found a few herbs and plants, although she couldn't identify them other than a few very common ones. With a shrug she just grabbed several and tossed them into the pot.
The Mismagius squints, but decides your brew is passable. It's nothing special, though, and you receive no reward. Oh well. Onto the next room!
You have entered the room.
What will you do?
You enter a room littered with pumpkins! Small, medium, and large pumpkins cover the floor, without leaving a clear walkway. Several Pumpkaboo watch from the sidelines. Make 3 Dexterity rolls to see if you can navigate through the pumpkins without tripping on the vines and squishing any. The Pumpkaboo will probably forgive you if you can't make it completely, but still be careful.
To her relief, the Mismagius accepted the brew, although it didnt seem pleased. Sage was bit discouraged, as she had been hoping for some reward, but it was not to be, at least not here. Maybe she would have better luck in the next room.
"Thanks anyway!" She said with a wave at the Mismagius, as she left the room. She wouldnt blame the pokemon for her misfortune. Staccato chirped as well, seeming a bit more comfortable after two rooms with no scares.
The next room however was filled with pumpkins, reminding Sage of late Autumn harvests near her town. She was about to reach for one of the pumpkins to feel its bumpy skin when when she noticed the pumpkaboo on the sidelines. Oh, okay, she had better be careful.
She prepared herself to cross the pumpkins to the next room hoping she didnt fall on anything.
You squish one pumpkin. The Pumpkaboo are a little sad, but they forgive you, and even give you 2 Rare Candies on your way out! Please update your bag. Onto the next room!
You have entered the room.
What will you do?
You enter a room that seems to have only a pit between you and the door on the other side. The backlit plaque at the front reads: "Have faith… and careful footing."
If you step out or carefully test it, you will find the entire thing solid, just invisible, against the door side of the pit, but only for a few feet. After that, it changes into a more narrow winding path. Make 3 Dexterity rolls.
Unfortunately Sage could not avoid all the pumpkins. Her foot squished straight into one, and she looked up in dismay. The Pumkaboo did not look pleased, but at least they didnt throw her out. So she took a moment to extricate her foot from the pumpkin, and shake off some of the goo and seeds. She was extra careful the rest of the way through, and managed to make it without any other pumpkin squishing.
She smiled apologetically at the Pumpkaboo, but they seemed to have forgiven her, and they even gave her some candies.
"Yes! Thank you!" She beamed at them.
But she knew she needed to move on, so she turned and passed into the next room.
She groaned as she saw another pit, but this time it didnt even look like there was a way through! Until she read the panel.
"Have faith.... Oh Staccato you arent going to like this." The little Kricketot chittered nervously, digging further into her embrace and hiding his face as she approached the edge of the pit. She slid her foot out towards the edge... and found that there was still some sort of platform there, just invisible. When she took a few steps forward, she realized that it wasnt solid all the way through.
You luckily just manage to make it across the path to the other side of the room, and the door opens! Onto the next room!
You have entered the room.
What will you do?
You enter a room more brightly lit than the others. It looks like a child's room, and a soft melody plays. There are 3 creepy dolls sitting on a shelf in the middle of the room, with a box of doll clothes beneath them. The clothing options are: Doctor, Princess, Cowgirl, Ballerina, Unicorn Onesie, Superheroine, Fairy. A sign beneath the dolls reads: "Dress me!" Each doll has a riddle attached.
Doll 1: A maiden fair, with heart so pure. The bravest folk she does allure. With nary a wrinkle and not a pimple, her image is a status symbol.
Doll 2: Grace and poise are hers to claim. Entertainment is her aim. It may look easy, but don't be fooled. For years and years this girl has schooled.
Doll 3: Across the plains and fields of green, she surely is a tough lil bean. With PokePartners she takes the lead, whether the 'mon are worker or steed.
Sage bit back a scream as she nearly fell into the pit, but managed to keep her footing and just barely make it to the other side. She stumbled onto the other side, clutching Staccato close and gasping to gather her breath again.
Well she was lucky to have made it past that pit, but she knew she needed to continue on. So she gathered herself, and poor Staccato, and headed into the next room.
Now this, this was creepy. She had never really played with dolls as a child, she had played with pokemon or animal figurines. She never really knew why, but the eyes. They always stared into her soul. Staccato chittered aggressively at them, sensing her increasing discomfort, but she shushed him.
"It's okay buddy, we just need to figure this out and then we can move on.... how does that sound?"
He grumbled, but the Kricketot knew she was right.
So she edged her way over, and read the riddle.
"Maiden fair... status symbol..." She picked up the first doll, looking between it and the dresses. "All I can think is that that means a Princess." So she dressed the first in a princess outfit.
The second she guessed was a ballerina. "Dancers have all sorts of poise and grace.." She remembered some of the partners she had had that evening, leading her smoothly i dances. Others not so much.
The third caused her eyes to light up. "Of course she's a Cowgirl! Sounds like she's ridin across a ranch."
So she dressed them quickly, hoping she had guessed correctly. ---------------------------------- 1. Princess 2. Ballerina 3. Cowgirl
You hear a sound of slightly creepy but happy laughter before the door slides open. Congratulations! Onto the next room!
You have entered the room.
What will you do?
You enter a dimly lit room with three doors. In front of each door is an Eeveelution, one Vaporeon, one Flareon, and one Jolteon. A backlit plaque near the entrance reads: "Two tell lies. One tells the truth." Make a perception roll. (This is not tied to a Skill, it's just a flat die roll.)
Both of them stiffened at the creepy laughter, and Sage hugged Staccato close. But after a few terrifying moments the laughter faded, they both breathed sighs of relief. They had guessed correctly apparently. The door was open, so she cautiously stepped into the next room.
This one at least wasn't as eerie as the last few, it was definitely a puzzle of sorts. Three doors, three Eevee evolutions, one correct choice. So she walked around the room looking at each door. "Two lies, one truth..." She murmured. Well there was clearly something important there. Did it have to do with their appearance? With their types? She peered closely at the doors hoping for a clue.
It's almost hidden by the dark lighting, but you notice the Flareon has a Zorua's tail! Furthermore, you can see that the Vaporeon has cyan slitted eyes like a Zoroark! That leaves only the Jolteon! Will you go through its door?
"Thats... not right." She murmured to herself, when she noticed the inconsistencies. She was glad she did, sicne they were fairly easy to miss, especially the eyes. So the Flareon and Vaporeon were the ones telling lies, that must mean the Jolteon was telling the truth.
"Okay, the Jolteon then." She said, giving Staccato a reassuring squeeze. He chittered optimistically, hopefully they were getting closer to the end of this maze.
She pushed on the Jolteon door, hoping it was the right choice.
As you open the door, the other two Eeveelutions revert to a Zorua and Zoroark! The foxes all cheer for you. Onto the next room!
Congratulations! You have advanced to the seventh room!
You have entered the room.
What will you do?
You enter a room filled with cobwebs and spider Pokemon. You must navigate the webs to get through the room. There is a long table in the middle of the room. On top of the table, there are three candy bowls, and a sign reading "Choose 1". The bowl on the left has a live Joltik atop it. The bowl in the middle has a creepy hand sticking out of it. The bowl on the right has a cobweb atop. Pick a bowl. Roll one die at the end of your post.
Sage cheered with the foxes as she passed on into the next room, but her joy was abruptly extinguished by just how creepy it was. The room was covered in cobwebs, and spider pokemon looked down at her from all angles. Normally she wasnt afraid of spider pokemon, but when there were significantly more than you.... She remembered Lux once driving away an Ariados whose web she encroached on as a child. He had protected her then and always, and she had never had cause to fear them. But now she felt poor little Staccato shaking in her arms, little bug pokemon that he was, they could easily eat him in one gulp.
She held him close, trying almost to hide him, as she slowly and carefully traversed the room to the bowls. There were three, all with something atop them. The hand was just way too creepy, and she remembered what had happened when she had messed with a pokemon's web, so that left... the Joltik.
Compared to some of the spider pokemon in the room, he was small, manageable. So she smiled warmly at it. "Hi there buddy, I'm Sage, and, I think Im supposed to reach for one of these bowls, can I reach in yours?" She wasn't dumb, she knew to ask first, and she intended on being very polite. She slowly inched her hand towards the bowl, hoping the Joltik would be okay with it.
The Joltik tries to bite you, but you are agile enough to move out of the way. The Joltik scurries off, allowing you to take 2 Rare Candies. Your bag has been updated. Onto the next room!
Congratulations! You have advanced to the eighth room!
You have entered the room.
What will you do?
You enter a room which at first appears eerily empty save for an ornate coffin lying in its center. You hear a faint sound from above, and realize the ceiling is littered with sleeping, hanging Golbat. There are three small puzzles attached to the coffin. Make a Dexterity roll so see if you can successfully align all the proper pieces. You only need to solve as many puzzles as there are players.
Ssge squeaked as the Joltik lunged, but pulled her hand back fast enough to avoid getting bitten. "That's not very nice!" She scolded the Joltik as she backed away. But she didn't stay to continue berating the pokemon, since she could feel the eyes of the other spider pokemon on her. Instead she hurried for the door to the next room, relieved to be moving on.
The next room was oddly empty, just a random coffin in the middle. But something seemed very off, very creepy. And she shuddered because it felt like she wasn't alone. It was only with Staccato's fearful chirp that she looked up and nearly jumped out of her dress. Sneaky little brats, those pokemon. But she exhaled, at least glad to know what the odd feeling was from and advanced to the coffin.
On the lid were several puzzles, though it looked like she would only need to solve one. With a nervous glance upwards, she began to reorder the tiles, hoping to get it right.
The puzzle clicks into a decent-looking place and opens up, revealing a Pecha Berry and a Leppa Berry inside. Your gift has been sent! Onto the next room!
Congratulations! You have advanced to the ninth room!
You have entered the room.
What will you do?
You enter a room that is lit only by a large moon-shaped light in the center of the ceiling, tiny LED stars that cover the rest of the ceiling like a night sky, and one dimly backlit plaque with instructions: "Pick a partner and sing".
A Midday, Midnight, and Dusk form Lycanroc sit around the room, howling at the false moon. Each has a small barrel hanging from their neck. Choose a Lycanroc and make a Performance roll! Players may choose the same or different Lycanroc.
