As the Pokeball dinged in capture, Gabe let out a slow breath. Well, that was one way to catch a Pokemon, he supposed. I’m making quite a few friends on this voyage… Looking back out the tent and watching the storm continue to rage, Gabe frowned. Lucky them…. His hand fumbled with Liz’s ball before he pocketed it again. He was fine; he would be fine. He had dealt with worse before this, much much worse.

Folding over his knees, Gabe took a nap— a very very brief nap.

When he’d find consciousness again, Gabe found the storm had passed. Gathering up his things and starting to pack everything away again, he glanced out at the sea again trying to guess just how much further he needed to go.

After judging where he needed to go and releasing Leo again, Gabe got on and started onwards. They hadn’t traveled far when a frozen spike came crashing up through the water right in front of them. Leo hissed stopping short and jarring Gabe. “What the f—“ Gabe started and stopped as his eyes dashed around and found what had sent it.

Deep in the water, a Cloyster was making its way upwards. “Leo, Water Pulse as it gets closer to us,” Gabe ordered. The Blastoise shifted forward causing Gabe to shift back in order to stay out of the water. Just as the Cloyster came in summoning up an Icicle Shard, it met the vicious confusing vibrations of a Water Pulse. The Cloyster reeled swaying more violently than the water even as it tried to focus on its target. Gabe wouldn’t let it have the time, though. “Now Aura Sphere,” was the order. The signature blue sphere formed at the corner of the Blastoise’s cannon and then went flying forward crashing into the Cloyster and causing it to cry out and fall back into the depths again.

Gabe and Leo waited a while before being sure it wasn’t coming back. Only after that did they move onwards again.

Gabe could see Plum now. It was much closer now, just a little bit further going forward. Rather than head to the docks where the ferry lodged itself, however, he directed Leo the Blastoise around the island for a more subtle place to land. It was as they were scanning the coastal waters, though, that something came up from the depths— drawn by the intrigue of the water’s motions.

The sight of the purple was distinct enough for even Gabe to notice immediately. “Aura Sphere,” was the quick order that the Blastoise complied with. A rush of power, and the Toxapex was forced back a little. “Don’t let it touch you,” came the warning right after. Or me for that matter. That beast was toxic, powerfully toxic. And would make a fantastic addition to the team depending on how it was used….

The Toxapex was startled at being forced back by the sphere. This was not some easy prey, and she was aware of that now. Shaking off the move, she released some Toxic Spikes into the water that swayed and splayed as they appeared. Great…. This kind of barrier was more than a little annoying, but Leo’s shell should offer him some protection at least. “Water Pulse…” came the order. The Blastoise retaliated.

A few more quick rounds of this, Gabe forcing Leo to use ranged attacks and the Toxapex not getting as much in edgewise. Feeling somewhat confident to try, Gabe tossed a Pokeball at it.

As the Pokeball dinged in capture, Gabe smirked. Well now, this little expedition had really given him quite a lot in the way a ferry ride wouldn’t have. He still probably wouldn’t repeat this again unless absolutely necessary but… “We’re almost there now, Leo, thank you for your efforts.”

The Blastoise grunted. He hadn’t really enjoyed this trek considering the level of chaos that had occurred, but maybe if the water had been warmer, he would have been less stressed overall. Whatever, it was ending now. They were practically at the island. What could go wrong now? No, wait, he didn’t want to think about that on the off chance that Arceus decided to reign down some other annoyance on his head.

Landing on the sand, Gabe hopped off Leo. Watching as the Blastoise returned to original height again, Gabe smiled. “Thanks again,” he spoke a bit quieter now before reaching forward and patting the Blastoise on the arm. Returning him after, Gabe turned and started up the beach way.

…Only to see something pink in the sand? Gabe paused bending down to brush the sand away. Oh, two unused Pokeballs… They looked like… heal balls? If he remembered correctly. My lucky day… Pocketing them, he righted himself again and started up the beach once more towards Plum. I have so much work to do…. But that had been more fun than he wanted to admit to.
