Having finished a round of training with everyone, Elizabeth felt it would be beneficial to spend an extra little time with just Lavender. The waters of Arciel had a different feel about them than the ones back home. The current didn't flow the same and even the water's energy was just a little bit foreign to the frosted water type. Liz had checked the map ahead of time and knew that to get to Cherry town they would need to cross the watery Route 3. Now a ferry was an option so was having Ayla fly them over, however a solid flight straight over the water with no place to land could be a bit tricky for a passenger carrying pokemon, thus Liz wanted to be sure they had a third option, a ride pokemon capable of carrying them across the bay.
Liz located the training pool that was provided, though it seemed a tad silly training in a pool here at Cedar when their was the bay right there. Still the ranger could appreciate the desire for safety. The girl released Lavender into the pool then the purple lapras moved close to the edge so Liz could climb astride. Careful Liz settled onto the lapras's shell, securing herself between the raised points of said shell.
Lavender had carried Liz before back home but was a bit rusty. Lavender was only one of the many water types Liz had utilized to carry her across the waters and most of the time Liz generally preferred to just fly. It was hard to resist that feeling of the wind in your hair and soaring high above the clouds. Still surging across the water was fun too and Liz enjoyed mixing things up. The girl patted Lavender's neck and directed her towards the obstacle course. Liz was a fairly strong rider and had focuses primarily on that aspect of pokemon back home and she didn't intend to let her skills get rusty.
"Okay Lav let's see what you can really do." The girl instructed as she felt the lapras increase in speed. They circled one pillar then leaned to the inside and weaved around another, completing a full line of them essentially 'pole bending' on the water. Liz chuckled and directed Lavender onward. The icy dino now entered a section of the pool that had simulated waves. They proceeded onward carefully riding the waves up and down getting a good feel for the water's rhythm.
Lavender eased back out of the rougher waves and Liz pulled her feet up a little higher. Her boots had gotten splashed a bit from the waves and in this cold climate it wasn't exactly fun for the ranger. Lavender of course was completely unbothered by the cold, in fact she seemed energized by it. The lapras kicked it up a notch and picked up speed as she headed for the next obstacle.
Several low hanging poles were staggered ahead. This was something designed to test riders and their pokemon. Lavender kept a straight line while Liz had to carefully duck beneath the poles at the rate Lavender was swimming. There was of course one pole that was lower than all the others, just skimming the surface of the water. Liz narrowed her eyes and hurriedly got to her feet taking up a surfing stance.
"Okay Lav, now!" Liz instructed as the lapras dove under the water and Liz jumped into the air and over the pole. The lapras resurfaced just in time on the other side of the pole to catch Liz before the girl fell into the frigid pool. Liz stumbled for a moment but caught herself on one of Lavender's horns.
They slowly passed the surf instructor who gave them a thumbs up. Looks like they'd managed to complete the training without getting all wet.
