Considering the fact that Cedar Town was supposed to be close to the beach, it didn't take long for Touma and Amaura to make their way back to it. By this point he had let La Mariposa back out of her ball, and since there were no flowers about she instead collected the various shells scattered along the sands. Touma made sure to keep an eye on her along with Amaura, though the latter did so discreetly and without much interference. There was a Slowpoke drifting serenely on the water just out of reach, and Touma couldn't tell if it was looking at them or just... staring blankly off into space without a thought in its head. Eventually the current carried it away and he could hear a faint "poooooke" as it drifted off to sea.
La Mariposa had managed to gather a good handful of shells and was reaching for another sticking up out of the sand. She gave it a pull but it would not budge, so she braced her feet in the sand and pulled harder, yanking and tugging until it eventually came loose - but had an Oshawott clutching the other end. Touma stopped in his tracks and watched as the two stared each other down, but since the Oshawatt wasn't... really raring to go and attacking straightaway, he didn't rush in immediately and simply watched the interaction between the two.
Oshawott pointed at its belly and spoke with the syllables of its own name. La Mariposa made a confused sound and held up one of her many seashells to the Oshawott's tummy, dropping the rest as she did so. It was very tiny in comparison to the one they were both gripping and after staring at it a moment the Oshawatt let out a laugh and managed to take its shell back. It gave the bird Pokemon a gentle thwap on the head before sticking the claimed seashell onto its stomach and putting its paws on its hips as it showed off.
Now seemed like an okay time to move in, and Touma did so while Amaura stayed behind kicking up sand with its legs. The blond recalled to mind how he'd managed to persuade the Wooloo to come with them, and it seemed as though the two pokemon in front of him were getting along well enough. Perhaps it wouldn't mind coming along too?
Oshawott looked up at his approach and once he was close enough Touma pulled one of the Rawst berries from his knapsack and knelt down, offering it. "Hey there," He began, noting how the Oshawott remained eerily calm despite being surrounded by a complete stranger and his pokemon. "We're on our way to Cedar Town, and if you don't mind our company would you like to come along?"
La Mariposa gave an encouraging trill and, after sniffing at the berry, the Oshawott happily took it with both paws and began to munch on it without a second thought. Touma pulled the pokeball out of his pocket and gently tossed it at the Oshawott.
Whelp, that didn't go according to keikaku. He was grateful the pokeball didn't break despite the fact that it seemed like the Oshawott immediately escaped once it had been inside. It had finished the Rawst berry in record time and was looking around for more, and Touma pulled out the second one but held it up just out of reach before it could be snatched from his fingers.
The Oshawott gave him a quizzical look, but he only grinned in return. Amaura was still a ways off in the distance and, after spotting him, La Mariposa ran towards him with her arms carrying the shells she'd previously dropped. Though Amaura didn't flee at the sight, the look in his eyes said he very much wanted to.
"It's all right if you don't want to come with us," Touma spoke softly and actually did give the second berry to the Oshawott. It took it in both paws like before and began to nibble on it, its eyes never leaving the human before it as he spoke. "But I'm hoping to become involved with the medical field here, and I can promise you I'll patch you up and keep you healthy and whole if you join us. This includes feeding you all the berries you'd like," He added, and held the pokeball out to the Oshawott, face up. "What do you say?"
He retrieved the pokeball once the Oshawott had broken free again and this time tucked it away with the other one he had. The pokemon finished its berry and scampered off with a squeal of its name, like this were just some fun game it was playing. He watched it go with a smile and even waved him goodbye, glad he could at least feed it a little before he left.
When he returned to Amaura and La Mariposa she was trying - and failing - to stick some of the shells she'd gathered onto various parts of Amaura's body like she'd seen the Oshawott do. Unsurprisingly, they didn't stick, and after a few more tries she gave up and held out what she'd gathered for Touma to put away since he was the only one with pockets. "Those look great, I'll put them in here for safekeeping," He said, unslinging his rucksack and placing the shells gently inside. She looked over his shoulder and patted the pokeballs in his pocket, but he shook his head and thumbed over his shoulder in the direction where the Oshawott had disappeared. "It's going to do its own thing, and that's okay. We'll probably see each other again someday."
Though she looked a little sad - probably for the fact she couldn't have the shell off Oshawott's tummy - La Mariposa re-scaled Touma's clothing to take up her rightful perch on his shoulder. Amaura looked relieved the attention had been taken off of him, and the three set off on their journey.
They had continued on for some time in companionable silence, with Amaura kicking up dirt and sand tufts on his right, and La Mariposa looking out towards the beach on his left. He liked to imagine he could make out the structures of buildings up ahead but that might have just been wishful thinking, though with how.... eventful their journey had been thus far he wouldn't have been surprised if that had helped pass the time that much faster.
Looking out at the two pokemon walking along beside him, he made a mental note to try and maybe train them up a bit when they got into the next town. While he wasn't one for battling, that didn't mean that they couldn't at least be strong enough to defend themselves if the need ever arose.
La Mariposa suddenly made an alerting trill and gestured out towards the ocean. When Touma looked he was greeted with the sight of a Lapras riding the waves. Quite literally, actually, as with each bob of the water the great blue pokemon let out a squeal of excitement and flapped its fins up and down excitedly. It was apparently very into swimming, even though it wasn't actually travelling very far and just seemed to circle in one place. The sight brought a smile to his face, and he looked down to see if Amaura had also stopped but found the him gone.
Turning his head this way and that, he eventually spotted the fossil pokemon with its head buried in a bush. He headed over, La Mariposa still looking back towards the Lapras, and upon arriving behind Amaura found himself staring at a pair of wide, soulless eyes. He'd be lying if he said he wasn't startled. He was unsure why it was in a bush or if it was even looking.... at him.... those were seriously the sort of eyes that saw everything and nothing, and it was a little unnerving just looking at them. Regardless, Touma was quick to push those feelings away and lifted a hand up to give the pokemon a little wave.
"What are you doing there in that bush?" When he spoke the tone he adopted was soft, the kind he used to talk to his siblings when they felt like being playful. If the Espurr acknowledged him at all it didn't say anything or even... move, just kept on staring into nothingness. Amaura had moved away by this point but not far enough he couldn't be ready for an attack, and the trio stared at the pair of wide, unblinking eyes for longer than was probably necessary. It was probably a safe bet that it wouldn't attack them without cause any time soon, but it was still a little... strange.
Touma turned to look up and down the length of the path, wondering if maybe someone hadn't accidentally left their pokemon here and it was just waiting for their trainer to return. Aside from the Espurr being in the bush there weren't any other signs of life and he wasn't entirely sure how to feel about that. Turning his attention back to the unblinking pokemon in front of him, he spoke again, though this time tried to project his concern.
"Are you out here all by yourself?" No answer. While a part of him thought it was fine to leave the Espurr there all by its lonesome, the other part couldn't really bear if the pokemon got injured in some form while it was here. He didn't think it was paralyzed or anything, because... well, surely there'd be some other way to tell? It just seemed off. "... Did your trainer abandon you?" Again, no response. Touma reached behind himself and pulled out one of the two remaining pokeballs he had, showing it to the Espurr. "Would you like to come with us? The weather's starting to get a little colder, and I'd hate for you to get sick."
At that, he finally got a response though he wasn't sure if it was a good or bad one. There were no words, but the Espurr did finally flick its eyes to look in his direction. Or through him, he couldn't really tell. Regardless, that was enough prompting for him, and he tossed the pokeball as gently as he could.
Having half-expected it to burst out of the pokeball to continue its odd staring, Touma was a little relieved that it went in seemingly without no fuss. Perhaps there was something wrong with it, and he made a mental note to check it out at the nearest pokecenter. Amaura sniffed the ball before it was picked up off the ground, and Touma gazed at it a long while before slipping it away with the Wooloo.
When he returned to the path he'd been walking a bit earlier, he was surprised to see that the buildings they'd been making their way towards had actually gotten closer and Cedar Town loomed just within walking distance. Eager to get there and get his pokemon looked at among other things (he absolutely owed a phone call back home, it'd been a while since he'd spoken to his family), his pace increased in increments until he had broken into a light jog across the sands, Amaura at his heels and La Mariposa keeping a perch on his shoulder.
