Riding Lapras

Malony had really gotten used to carrying Marley on her back rather quickly. A good thing since now they were swimming out on the open waters. Sure, there was always the ferry to Plum, or hell, Marley could swim! But, there was just something about riding a pokemon that was, well, a little relaxing. The lapras was positively beaming as she was ferrying Marley along. Ever since he had saved her from that poacher, the pokemon had been absolutely dedicated to him. And Marley would return that loyalty.

As they floated along, Marley was thinking back to his battle with Hiro. He had gotten completely smashed into the ground by the Gym Leader. After taking time to cool down, Marley realized he needed to be smart about this. Simply going for type advantage and brute force wasn't going to work. He needed to be versatile. Fortunately, this peaceful day was giving him time to think.

As the Lapras swam along, she would notice that there were numerous little icebergs floating by carried by the current. It was the dead of winter and to be expected, but that made it no less dangerous to navigate. Best be careful.

Marley was jarred from his thoughts by his lapras moving to avoid the icebergs that were floating in the water. Not exactly a strange sight, considering some of the places in Galar. "Take it nice and slow Melony," Marley said reassuringly, patting her head, "We're not in any rush." The Lapras nodded, slowly weaving her way through the chunks of ice.

As you carefully maneuver along, you notice what appears to be several icebergs have stopped moving and are trapped on a sandbar. Despite the reflective surface of the ice… you see something moving on the other side. Will you investigate?

Marley noticed the movement on the ice. Did some poor pokemon get stuck under the ice? He gently patted Melony's side. "Take us over there girl. Let's see what's going on there." Melony, more than empathetic to a pokemon possibly in distress, nodded as she slowly moved to see the other side of the iceberg.

On the other side of the iceberg, you would see a sight that wasn’t quite distress. In fact, it seemed to be a pair of Popplio had discovered a Wailmer and were bouncing the balloon Pokemon to one another and watching their images reflected in the ice. The Wailmer seemed roughly unharmed if perhaps a little annoyed to be messed with by these water pups.

Marley blinked at the sight before him. He didn't know what was funnier. The fact that a pair of Popplio were bouncing around a pokemon like a ball, or the fact that said pokemon was roughly double the size of them. Sure, it looked annoyed, but at least it wasn't being harmed. And they seemed to be having so much fun.

Marley couldn't help but chuckle as he and Melony pulled up nearby. "Be sure not to hurt 'im kids," he said to the Popplio with a smile.

The Popplio pair stop and turn to see this new person and immediately lose interest in their volleyball (who hit the sand-ice and grunted after) and seem to be coming for you! Are they going to try and use you as their next balancing ball? Maybe so.

Marley couldn't help but feel a little sorry for the Wailmer, as it was dumped on the icey sand and simply left there, as the pair of Popplio made their way towards them. He couldn't help but chuckle though. "Oh? You two want to play huh? Afraid I ain't got any balls for you to play with-wha-WAIT!" Marley yelped as suddenly Melony rolled over, causing the lankey trainer to fall into the water. The Lapras couldn't help but laugh as her trainer splashed around the water. It was all in good fun. She wouldn't let anything bad happen to her trainer of course.

The water was freezing! But Marley would see something down below if he happened to look. It seemed the ice extended far far deep below the surface, and there appeared to even be something frozen within the ice itself? Hard to tell what it was at this angle and in the water. Coming up was going to be freezing too.

Marley almost screamed from how cold the water was. As he flailed in the water, he paused when he noticed something within the ice underneath the water. The moment was quickly broken by his desire for warmth. Scrambling back up to the surface, he struggled to shore, panting heavily as he heard his Lapras, and the other pokemon, laughing. "Not. Funny!" Marley yelled out, his body tensing from the cold.

Still, what was that in the ice. "If ya want to be useful," he said between chattering teeth, "There's somethin' in the ice. Take a look will ya?" Melony blinked, curious about what he meant. The Lapras dove under the water, checking to inspect the ice.

The Lapras would see a strange sight below the water, in fact. It seemed as though it was a frozen piece of a ship, in fact? The bridge and bow were in tact, but it was clear the back end of the ship had been gutted some time ago. Had the ice perhaps brought it up somehow? Above water, the Popplio pair were once more trying to figure out how to balance Marley on their noses, lol.

On the surface, Marley was curled up in a ball, trying to regain some semblance of warmth. Seeing the Popplio eyeing him, he shifted over to be closer to the beached Wailmer. "I think I get how ya feel mate," he muttered.

Meanwhile, underneath the water, Melony studied the sunken ship curiously. What had happened to it? Was there a way to get inside? If she couldn't find one, she can always use Ancient Power to try and chip away at the ice.

The Wailmer whined a little as Marley drew close perhaps expressing some sort of comradery regarding the experiences. The Popplio pair laughed to each other before deciding to leave the human and the Wailmer alone and go play in the water instead. It was rather frigid, though. Meanwhile, the Lapras would find that there was no way to get to the ship, and thus Ancient Power was used to smash the ice— which immediately caused a huge crack to form all the way up towards the top where Marley was sitting as well. Oop better move quickly as it started to fall to pieces. The ship seemed in tact though! And was quickly rising to the surface???

The instant the ice cracked, Marley knew full well to get as far away from it as he could. Taking care to roll the Wailmer away to avoid it getting caught in the falling ice, he watched as the ice started to come apart. Something was coming up, and it wasn't Melony.

You're caught by the remains of a ship! A bunch of pieces of wood are all together and seem buoyant enough to be floating. There appears to by a few items floating as well including a still frozen block of-- old coins?

[Marley Hyde]

Marley's eyes widened as the old ship floated up to the surface. A shipwreck, here? And was that...GOLD!? Marley let out a laugh at the sight. "We've struck big buddy!" he laughed out, picking up the Wailmer and hefting it onto his back. With some care, he climbed back onto Melony's back, the trio of them heading towards the floating shipwreck, and the gold within.

You get to the gold and the coins, but the difficulty seems to be freeing them from the ice. Any ideas? The Wailmer seems pretty lax about being handled all things considered. At least you're not bouncing him around like a certain pair were.

Money money money! Marley had hit the jackpot! There was one small problem though. They were still frozen in ice. Well, one thing he could do would be to wait until the ice melts, but that would involve hauling ice around until he got somewhere warmer. Thankfully, Marley had an idea.

Riding Melony back to shore, Marley stepped off, setting the frozen gold down on the ground. "Ok, come on out Furnace!" With a flash, Marley's Heatmor appeared, looking around and shivering from the cold. Marley patted the pokemon reassuringly. "You'll get used to it. Now then, care to help melt some of this ice?" Furnace looked at the ice and then nodded, before starting to breath flames on the frozen gold.

The ice melts, and the gold seems in tact. Unfortunately it seems you've also caught the attention of a local beach bum who is interested in your find....
