Back again at one of the Bass City training fields this time Liz arrived at the outdoor flight training grounds. The girl was bundled up for the snowy weather fully expecting things to get a bit chilly when airborne. She'd recently had received back her skarmory through customs and was ready to give him the full flight certification. The ranger tossed the pokeball onto the field and watched the red light release the brilliant steel bird. Chisulo was quite a specimen for a skarmory, rather large for his kind and a fully military trained pokemon.
Chisulo had been the partner she'd received back when she'd first entered her region's military and joined the air force division. She and the highly trained skarmory had been through a lot together and the girl knew she could always count on him. Chisulo clicked his beak and lowered his head down to the girl allowing her to stroke his steel beak. "Let's give you a refresher course and give your wings a good workout alright?" The ranger suggested as the bird lowered his chest to the ground allowing her to swing up onto his back. The skarmory stood and stretched out his wings before snapping them down and shooting straight up into the air.
Liz gripped tightly to the bird's neck and her legs naturally secured themselves beneath his wing joints. His smooth steel like feathers were was slick but not too difficult to hang onto. For this particular flight, Liz had opted for some specialized riding pants and gloves to give her a better grip when flying the steel bird.
Chisulo's flying style was very different from Ayla. The tropius, despite her bulk, was surprisingly graceful and her movement was almost like that of a dancer. Chisulo however was much more mechanical, sharp and precise. Every movement was made for a reason and he was extremely efficient as well as fast. Readjusting to his particular form of flying took a bit of getting used to. The girl was nearly unseated when the skarmory made a hard right turn and suddenly dropped downward. "Steady now Chis, remember it's been awhile." She requested gently as the bird nodded. While his moves didn't adjust too much he did ease up on the sudden changes.
The girl directed the steel avian towards some of the flying hoops. "Let's give those a try and work on cornering." The ranger suggested. Chisulo clicked his beak in confirmation and shot over to the hoops. Liz crouched low to the avian's neck and the steel bird began dipping and weaving as he passed through each hoop. The ranger focused on the familiar movements letting her muscle memory kick in. It was nice flying with Chisulo once again. He was quick to respond to her commands and executed every action without hesitation. Of course the military aviator would obey orders without question, however Chisluo was also more than happy to do as Liz instructed, trusting her to handle herself and know what she was doing.
Liz tapped the skarmory then motioned upward. "Alright soldier, go for it." She grinned feeling more confident in her seat. Chisulo screeched and shot straight upward. They continued to climb for several miles before the bird gave a sharp turn then dropped straight down. The ranger anticipated this and was ready to adjust as they fell back to earth. At the last moment Chisulo opened his wings and leveled off, his talons scrapping along the edge of the training field.
The ranger glanced over at the flight trainer who appeared a bit shaken by the sight. They gave her a weak thumbs up as Liz chuckled and flew the skarmory back to the pokemon center.
