Now that Willow was back on the path, she could only see the beaches from a distance now. Of course, some of the water types that she was able to encounter would be able to come onto the shores and towards the path, but for others, that wasn't possible. This seemed to be especially true for a pokemon that she had looked upon from the distance. It seemed to be a remoraid that was trying its hardest to get onto land. It seemed frustrated by the fact that it couldn't stay on land as long as its other friends. Willow smiled at the site, and shouted out to the pokemon that it would get there one day. After all, it did evolve into a pokemon that could go onto land. Knowing that the pokemon could do it inspired Willow with hope.
The fact that the pokemon couldn't do what it wanted the most at its current state was sad, but the inspiring part was that it would get there one day. Just because Willow's pokemon weren't strong enough to fight the gym leader that was coming up on their next journey didn't mean that they weren't going to beat the person at all. So, she just trekked, hoping that there would be something, or someone she could fight. After all, the best way to teach your pokemon to battle was to actually battle with them.

This was it, Willow was in the final stretch of her journey. There was only a few more obstacles between her and the town that she was travelling to. The journey had already been pretty long and rough, but Cedar was finally within eyesight. As she looked down the road, she saw as a pokemon had blocked it. The pokemon itself seemed to not be doing much, but as she further inspected it, it seemed like the pokemon was stuck on the back of its shell.
Although most pokemon would probably be able to get up from the predicament, this squirtle seemed a bit different. It wasn't too stressed about the fact that it was stuck. It seemed more like it was using itself being stuck as an exercise to train up for something. It seemed determined to get up, but it didn't let a string of negativity stem from its actions. As Willow hovered over the pokemon, she said to it, "Hey there little guy, do you need some help? It sort of looks like this was on purpose, but I feel like I could help you if you want. You don't need to do this sort of thing to get stronger. I'm a trainer, and helping pokemon get stronger is what I do! If not, I completely understand." As she talked to the pokemon, she reached out her hand, holding onto a pokeball that would click once the pokemon reached out for her hand.

As the squirtle reached its hand outwards towards the pokeball, it clicked the tiny button at its center. The squirtle then became a red light shooting towards the inside of the ball. Now that it was in the pokeball, all Willow had to do was wait for it to completely stop shaking. Of course, since the squirtle had chosen to go in, she was sure that it would be caught, but anything could honestly happen.
Though, like she had previously thought, nothing did happen. The pokemon was in its ball, and Freya was on her way to Cedar. She was so close, but on this route, there was no telling what could happen. There could be a random pokemon that jumped out all of a sudden, or a trainer who wanted to battle her. No matter what though, she was ready for it. Whatever came next might even be a training opportunity for her newly found pokemon. With this in mind, she just ran forward, yelling out to the clouds her loudest, "Yee Haw!"
Although Willow says "Yee Haw" a lot, it isn't really something that most southerners in places like Cherry say, but the fact that most people see southerners this way has made Willow want to say it out of irony. She says it because it always puts her in a good mood, no matter how serious or sad things get. It's a way for her too relieve stress, or express it.

While walking along the path laid out upon her, she saw how close Cedar was to her. The only thing that was stopping her at the current moment was a chinchou. Of course, it was minding its own business, but it'd be bad nature for Willow to just leave it be. After all, she was supposed to be training her pokemon...right? Willow exhaled a deep sigh as she looked at the pokemon. She wanted the pokemon really badly, but money was hard on her. Being a farmer, she didn't really get a surplus of it. So, she had to save up as many pokeballs as she could. She could walk by the chinchou, but it'd be a wasted oppurtunity.
Although she promised Aaron that she would train him, it was Brynn's turn to do some fighting. The pokemon didn't like fighting all too much, but Willow knew that the pokemon would have to start. The gym wasn't that far away from where she was. So, this had to be where she trained. So, as she sent out Brynn, she knelt down to the pokemon and said to her, "Hey. I know you don't like fighting all too much, but this gym battle coming up is one that's going to need some grit. Grit that you can only gain from actual pokebattles. Now, I know that the Chinchou isn't blatantly attacking us, but we have to be the agressors, okay?" With that, the Buneary pondered the thought. Looking at her trainer, she could tell that she didn't really want to fight the pokemon. However, tough times means tough measures. So, the pokemon looked over at the Chinchou and nodded her head.

Now that Willow had finally gotten a confirmation from Brynn, she let out a sigh of despair. Then, she raised up her hand and pointed to the Chinchou, saying aloud to Brynn, "Brynn, take this moment to attack the Chinchou with Pound!" As she said this, the Buneary jumped into action by using her ears to push herself up into the air. Coming down from the air, Brynn used pound on the Chinchou, slamming into it. The pokemon was startled by the attack, but immediately jumped into action with a thunder wave.
The Chinchou was soon startled further by Brynn's resistance to its attack. So, she used this moment to unleash another pound on it. The pokemon seemed to be only a few more hits away from fainting. So, as it ran away from the fight, it tried to use electroball on Brynn. It seemed as though she had a leg up on the pokemon in every single way, because now that the electric ball was being sent out, the Buneary jumped out of the way to land one more hit on the Chinchou before causing it to faint.
With Willow and Brynn victorious, they looked at each other and felt a bit sad for the pokemon. It was minding it's own business, and Willow went to attack it. They both looked down sadly at the ground, wondering if what they did was really alright. Though, they knew that their journey had to move onwards. It was especially clear when they realized that the town that they were trying to get through after all this time was right in front of them. Willow hoped that the pokemon would recover and find a loving trainer, but she knew that that trainer couldn't be her. So, she brushed off her sadness, and replaced it for optimism for the pokemon. She wanted to make sure that the pokemon was beat for a reason. She was going to give that pokemon a reason for why it had been attacked, and what good it did for Willow. Both her and Brynn would make sure of that.
