After a particularly spooky and stressful experience, Juni had decided she was going to flight train Disc. It would be… only for emergencies up until Disc evolved, she thought to herself, but she most certainly did not want to be caught in such a situation again unprepared. Looking into her options, she settled on practicing in the training grounds where the floors were matted with protective equipment and everything was monitored very carefully. It was here now that she was standing clasping Disc’s Pokeball and mumbling softly to herself.

It’s going to be fine. We don’t have to fly high or do loops or anything…. This was just… just in case the ground fell in again or in case they needed to get out fast. But…. but… but… Juni took in a slow, shaky breath, and rubbed one side of her face before pulling her hand around and pinching between her eyes. Just relax…. It’ll be fine… Tossing up the Pokeball, she released Disc finally who looked around the area slowly before looking back at her confusedly. “I… uh… we’re going to practice …flying… levitating… whatever…” Juni spoke, her hand raising and falling a couple of times with the emphasis of her words. The Metang stared for a moment before computing and letting out a low noise. “Uh… yeah so…. uh…” Juni walked over slowly and carefully assessed where to climb onto Disc. Luckily she had a pair of jeans and good grippy tennis shoes for this….

As she sat down and got a little more comfortable, Juni realized that… this… wasn’t so bad. The last time she had climbed up in a panic, but this... this wasn’t bad like that. “Disc… why not try floating forwad…. Not too fast or anything but just uh….” The Metang did so without question. It didn’t have to touch the ground or roll like other Pokemon, so the entire ride was rather smooth and fluid. Juni tilted her head from one side to the other as she got used to it.

“….Maybe try a little higher?” she ask-suggested. The Metang slowly raised up a little more but continued on forward at the same easy speed and fluid balance. “Huh….” Juni adjusted her glasses and looked around. “Higher?” They went higher… and higher… and higher. And it probably should have been scary, but for whatever reason, it just wasn’t… This was actually kind of enjoyable even. “…. Try going a little faster?” she asked after a moment, her hands gripping the crevices of the metallic Pokemon ready to brace for anything. They started forward a bit faster as was requested but…. not by much, and even that was ok. “Huh…”

They continued to change altitudes and move at different speeds for a while before Juni felt she was comfortable enough. Well, that hadn’t been near as bad as she had expected it to be.

Flight training had gone so well that Juni was feeling up to doing the surf training she hadn’t really planned to do up to that point. She was lucky that there was a Pokemon center close by to go grab Hydra her Dewgong’s Pokeball. She was luckier still that the pool happened to be heated and therefore didn’t require a wet suit or anything like that to get in the water with. She had a change of sweats and a t-shirt, and those were ok to get wet and be stored later or so she told herself.

Releasing the Dewgong out into the water, Juni immediately fidgeted on receiving the critical stare of the Pokemon. The Dewgong was… new. She’d unexpectedly caught him on the beach outskirts of Ivy Town just a few days prior, and immediately she was rethinking this plan. She’d known Disc for years. They had a relatively good relationship, and overall the Metang was a kind of chill Pokemon. This Dewgong was… was not so and much more foreign. “Ah… uh… hi, Hydra…” she murmured stepping closer to the pool that she had released the Dewgong into. “This is a surf training facility… was lookin’ to practice riding…” she explained. The Dewgong’s eyes narrowed a little.

“You know I live in Ivy Town. It would be much easier to have a surfing Pokemon than to wait on the ferry all the time… I wouldn’t ask always just sometimes and uh….” Juni’s features had turned as red as her locks. “Is that ok? I guess I should have asked first….” The Dewgong tilted his head form one side to the other before slowly humming and nodding. He supposed he understood, and so long as she didn’t make it a habit, that was fine. Turning around and offering up his side and back to climb onto, he waited to see how she would get on.

Juni smiled a little more. “Thank you,” she breathed a little easier as she crouched down and grabbed the wall, ready to throw one leg over and slide o— SPLASH. That was Juni sliding all the way onto the Dewgong and all the way off into the water from the sheer slickness of the Pokemon. Juni yelped and squeaked splashing and squirming until immediately remembering that the pool wasn’t that deep and that she could actually stand. (She could swim too, as she recalled, but yeah). The Dewgong, despite himself, was snickering now. Color jumped onto Juni’s features. “I…. it was just shock was all!”

Uncomfortably, Juni shifted around the Dewgong trying her best to climb on somehow. He was so slick and hairless almost, and it took him offering a fin for her to grab onto and climb onto to for her to get back up on him again. “Ok…. Ok. We’ve got this… Or… kind of….” Her legs were a little tight around the Dewgong, but the latter wouldn’t show it now. Instead, he’d start swimming slowly trying to get her used to it. The way in which the water moved around them, though, was far different than the air, and the Dewgong was so slick and….

SPLASH. That was Juni slipping off and hitting the water again. She yelped this time standing faster than before and quickly yanking off her glasses to shake the water off of them. The Dewgong stopped short again and whipped around looking at her incredulously. Juni frowned back. “Can’t you just swim under me and lift me back on?” she asked. The Dewgong squinted but disappeared under the water for a moment before swimming around. Juni suddenly found herself being lifted up again, and she squeaked and held on tightly this time. Ok… ok that worked… ok.

“Oh Groudon… oh Groudon… EEK!” Juni squeaked as the Dewgong moved and swam, dragging her along for the ride. She had stopped falling off which was a good thing, but now they were headed towards deeper waters (kind of), and Dewgong was moving more than before. It’s fine…. I’ve just got to get used to it… not like I can buy a boat or submarine or anything to substitute…

A bit of water splashed up from the way in which the Dewgong’s fins moved, and Juni deadpanned and grumbled a little. “You’re just doing that now aren’t you?” she muttered. The Dewgong didn’t answer back and seemed to be “more focused on swimming” than he had been previously. Juni bit the inside of her mouth. It’s fine.. it’s fine… ugh it’s going to have to be fine…. They moved around a little like that, and slowly, Juni did get used to the movements. Her legs stopped being so stiff— but her back still remained hunched. It was…. it was actually kind of fun if she really forced herself to believe that.

And then of course Hydra the Dewgong decided to test that by starting to swim towards the race course. Juni immediately squawked. “No no no no no no no!”

“Hey! I’ve been watchin’ you!” a voice called, and Juni’s head turned around to find a strange teenager grinning at her. “You wanna race?!” No, no Juniper did not want to race. She wanted to stay in the shallower parts of the pool and not do anything that might upset her stomach. The low call from the Dewgong, though, seemed to entice the kid. “Yeah! That’s the spirit!” The kid pat his own Mantine and grinned. “On the count of three then ok?!”

“No.”

“One!”

“No.”

“Two!”

“NO!”

“THREE!”

And suddenly they were off with both the Mantine and Dewgong moving at break neck speeds down the waterway. Shrieks and screams escaped from Juni as she gripped into the Dewgong as best she could and found herself dragged along all the same. Oh gods, oh Groudon, oh Arceus above. She was going to drown. This was going to be the unicornic end of her, wasn’t it? Wasn’t it?

They whipped around in the water one way and then the next. Splash after splash hit Juni’s face, and she sputtered a few times here and there. They made sharp turns and then rolled sideways and gripping on was all Juni could do to stay on. As they came to the finish line, though, the Dewgong finally broke up from the water and slowed. Juni… went flying over him and into the water beyond. Well. That was one way to …. To do that.
