The clouds were getting thicker again, making Sonia think that it was a false promise that the weather would clear up. But as of yet, she wasn't really bothered by it. She was staying warm with her jacket, and though the wind coming off of the water was chilly, it wasn't overly windy just yet. Though she would probably want to get moving sooner rather than later, before the wind started picking up like it looked like it would.
So she left the sand, heading closer towards the rocky grass when she felt the oddest presence against her mind. Eyebrows furrowed as she looked about until she spotted another pink Pokemon. Another Lickitung? No, this definitely wasn't the same, but she was intrigued all the same. She could definitely feel it's mind, like she could with Valiant. Did that mean it was a psychic type? Her eyes lit up, almost sparkling as she stared into the Pokemon's eyes. Phone pulled out within a second, and the tired Slowpoke just simply stared at the girl.
"A Slowpoke!" Sonia danced about, jumping from foot to foot and kicking up sand with her excitement. Once the outburst was done, she just went back to staring at the Pokemon while her mind inquisitively felt about the other mind. The Pokemon was perplexed by her, but was also content to just sit upon it's rock.
This had the girl growing, it definitely didn't feel likely that she could convince it to come with her. That meant she either had to battle it or move on. And she wasn't sure how she felt about battling a Pokemon and capturing it when it was so content where it was. At the same time, she really wanted it on her team. She wanted it to be her friend, so she had somewhat of a tough choice to make. Suck it up and move on, or suck it up and battle it. Seconds ticked by as Sonia thought, then eventually stood straight.
"I'd like to battle you." Sonia spoke out mentally, even her mental voice quivering with the combination of excitement and resentment she had towards the situation. The Slowpoke slowly rose, blinking it's eyes as it sighed. It seemed willing at least? One foot lifted, the Pokemon preparing to step down from the ledge. Only for it slide off it instead.
Sonia blinked at the unintended action before her frame was shaking with laughter. The poor thing! So the girl knelt by it's side, helping it right itself before it was yawning. Sonia smiled, still finding the Pokemon charming in it's own sleepy, content way. Letting the Slowpoke have a minute to get it's bearings, Sonia waited before she was sending out Valiant to take the Slowpoke on. The Ponyta weighing and shaking out his mane as he was released, clearly feeling a bit rested.
"I want to catch this Slowpoke. You up for it?" Sonia asked, petting and stroking the large Ponyta's neck and mane. Val snorted and pawed at the ground, he was ready! "Alright, Tail Whip!" Sonia announced the first move of the battle.
Which resulted in the Slowpoke getting slapped across the face with the puffy tail and looking totally dumbfounded as to what had just happened. Val waited, expecting the Slowpoke to retaliate, but it didn't. Val stared at it, also confused, so he used Tail Whip again.
This time, at least the Slowpoke growled at it. Valiant looked back over his shoulder.
"Tackle." Sonia nodded and signed, to which the pony happily obliged. This was met with another growl. Again and again Val tackled the Slowpoke, and the Slowpoke simply growled. Sonia was starting to feel bad about this, but that also meant an easy fight right?
When the already slow Pokemon seemed to become slower, that's when Sonia pulled out what she assumed was her remaining pokeball and threw it towards the pink Pokemon.
This was easily the most excited the girl had been to see the red and white ball flying through the air and hitting it's mark. Her aim was definitely better than she thought, though there was also the worry that perhaps she was using her powers without meaning to. But that wasn't something she was certain about, so instead she focused on how the ball bounced off the Slowpoke's head, bouncing off as the button was hit and then turned the Pokemon into a red light that it then took it in.
One shake. Two shake. Three shakes then a click!
She did it! She caught another Pokemon!
Sonia let out the closest thing she could to a cry of joy, a high pitched squeak that promptly had her coughing and rubbing at her throat and the pain it had caused. Mental note, don't do that again. She winced as she rubbed at her throat, Val trotting over to press himself against her side to make sure she was okay. She smiled, nodding to the Ponyta before stroking a hand through his mane and paying some special attention to his ears. She kissed his horn, making sure he understood that she was fine before she was eyeing the pokeball that now sat on the ground. She could just walk to it and pick it up, but there was always something she wanted to do.
Even though her mother had always portrayed her powers as something awful, easily abused and something to be feared. Sonia hadn't always felt that way, though maybe that was because of stories she had read where people with psychic powers entertained, or became powerful trainers. And she'd always wanted to make a show of holding a pokeball with her powers. So focusing on the ball, she imagined an invisible hand grabbing the ball and bringing it to her. At first the ball only rocked, side to side. Sonia didn't have much practice with her powers, only her father encouraging her to do so. She kept trying to focus, willing the ball to her, eyes narrowing. Then with a jump, the ball suddenly jumped into the air and flew into her palm with the impact of a softball which made the girl gasp in surprise.
Yeah, she was definitely going to need some practice to work on that. She eyed the ball, then eyed the distance before she was putting it into her pocket. Wait, wasn't it her right pocket she'd been putting her used pokeballs, and the left with the empty ones? Her eyebrow raised as she kneeled on the ground and began emptying out her pockets. She blinked, knowing for certain that the Professor had given her four balls, five if you counted Valiant's. Then why wre there these extra balls?
Sonia blinked several times at the balls before she slapped her palm to her forehead. How could she forget that she had spent some money to buy extras? She chuckled at herself before sorting the balls back into her pockets. Another pat for Valiant and Sonia decided it was time for them to get walking again.
So, it turns out her plan to get off the beach once again was foiled. Sonia stared at the rocky outcropping in front of her. A bunch of it was flat, but it was also jagged in some spots, and most definitely looked like it had a slick surface. She sighed heavily, looking one way then the other. Sadly, it was going to be quicker, and likely safer, if she were to go down close to the water and go around it that way as she was already closer in that direction. She sighed heavily once more, returning Val to his ball before she was making her way to the water.
And grumpily she waded once again through the knee deep water that she was forced to go through to get past this rock ridge. She warily eyed what was definitely a drop off several feet away that she didn't want to risk slipping into. And she stilled when she saw the water churning about nearby, then the surface was breaking to reveal a large, dark blue shape.
Sonia blinked owlishly at the shape of what was clearly a Pokemon. Everything seemed fine, even if both of them stayed still. At least until the Pokemon lunged forward, flippers waving and splashing about. And that definitely seemed like a glare coming from the Pokemon.
Sonia couldn't help it, she gasped out in surprise and a bit of fear as she skittered away from the Pokemon. This didn't seem like a Pokemon that could easily be soothed, she was going to need a protector. Her mind went over her choices quickly. Valiant would be at a disadvantage with the amount of water, and Mizune was still in need of attention, and the Slowpoke she had just recently captured didn't seem to be one for battling.
That left one choice.
"Mana!" Her mind supplied quickly, her hand already going to her pocket and tapping the ball. The Wailmer was already lunging at her, unhappy with Sonia intruding on it's 'territory'. Sonia was skittering back again, nearly tripping through the weight of the water as the ball released the Vaporeon. Said Vaporeon who was confused at first, until she saw that this Pokemon was being aggressive to the kind girl who had saved her from that fishing line (and captured her, but she wasn't very salty about that).
Mana growled lowly, frills flaring angrily before she was lunging forward in turn and smacking away the Wailmer with her tail. She then hissed loudly, this was her trainer! Even if they hadn't known each other long, this was her nice person! Shaking itself the wailmer once again growled menacingly.
"Mana, tackle it!" The mental voice commanded, the Vaporeon nodding before she was swimming forward and ramming herself against the squishier body of the whale. It growled and flailed it's fins, but neither seemed to do much? Sonia blinked in her confusion and tilted her head. Didn't it know any attacks?
Mana hissed again before looking back towards Sonia. "Water gun please." Another hiss before Mana was inhaling deeply and shooting water forth.
There was another wail from the Pokemon, some minor flailing before it just stopped. Sonia continued to blink at the Pokemon. Had it fainted? Must have. Her head tilted the other way as Mana swam back towards her, the water rippling around her slightly as she purred. "Thank you Mana. You were amazing." The girl praised, petting and stroking the slippery pelt of the very wet Pokemon.
And thanks to Mana, Sonia was able to safely wade the rest of the way to the shore.
Valiant - 1/5e Mizune - 1/5e Mana - 4/5e CC - 3/5e
It was still cloudy out, and while it didn't seem like it would be snowing or raining right away it would probably be best if she got a move on. Had she picked the best day to start traveling, probably not, but that didn't discourage Sonia any. Not when it had proven to be a good day other than the potential weather shift. What all had she even done today? It just felt like so much had happened.
She had saved a Lickitung from a Ninetales. She had her first battle. Then she had helped that beached Gorebyss and caught Mizune when she couldn't be helped back into the water. Then there was that battle with that annoying girl in the swimsuit before she had helped Mana and then caught her. After that was the Chewtle, the Slowpoke she had decided to name Ceecee, and then that Wailmer.
"Has been an eventful day hasn't it Mana?" Sonia asked the Vaporeon that had remained by her side. The Pokemon mewled happily, walking side by side with the girl she had just protected. Sonia would definitely say that it was a lot nicer to even have one of her Pokemon by her side. Even if they didn't speak the entire time and there was lapses of silence. Sonia was used to the silence, and Mana didn't seem to mind either though she did randomly mew or purr towards her trainer.
But now they were leaving the beach like area, heading more inland to make sure that Sonia didn't accidentally pass by Cedar Town like she feared she was going to. Mana didn't seem to have any complaints, at least not until Sonia stopped and the larger Pokemon didn't realize it right away. There was an inquisitive chirp of a sound from the Vaporeon as she turned to look at Sonia, the towards where the girl was looking.
It was a berry tree. Violet eyes blinked before looking up at Sonia who stood there, slack jawed.
"Is that a berry tree?" Sonia finally asked, the Vaporeon purring an affirmative before Sonia was walking to admire the rawest tree. How interesting, it hadn't been that long since she had left home. But seeing the berry tree reminded her of home, igniting a delightful warmth in her chest. Surely no one would mind if she took some? Looking around, she saw no one around. And they definitely weren't on marked property. It would be okay to grab them then if it was a wild tree.
So reaching up she plucked the two light blue berries that she could see before carefully putting them into a container in her bag. She didn't want to squish them after all. With a final smile towards the tree she began her forwards trek once more. People could own farms here right? Maybe she could look into making her own garden with flowers there too. Definitely something she would have to look into.
You know, this was a lot further than she had ever walked all at once. Sonia was panting slightly now, the exhaustion clear on her face and in her posture. Mana was looking at her worriedly, the large Vaporeon never seeing this kind of reaction from her human. So looking around the Vaporeon spotted a large tree that wasn't too far off and with a few gentle nudges began to lead the girl towards the tree. It would be safe to rest there right?
Sonia looked gratefully to the water type, one hand resting on their shoulder as she was lead towards the tree. Maybe it was the adrenaline from the Wailmer encounter, or the excitement that she had been feeling all day. But she hadn't realized how exhausted she had been feeling. But now that she was able to sit down, leaning slightly against the water type she felt the tiredness starting to overcome her. Maybe a nap out here wouldn't be so bad? Though, she was pretty sure that she was close to Cedar by now, and she could rest there than out here. But, taking this little break wouldn't hurt. And she wasn't scared, not with how alert the Vaporeon looked as she kept her eyes out for danger. Sonia leaned a little heavier on the Pokemon, letting her eyes close for a little power nap.
She wasn't sure how much time went by, but it couldn't have been too long. All she knew was she heard a snap and she felt the Vaporeon's body tense behind her slightly. And then there was a sudden sharp impact on her lap which caused her eyes to jolt open and a soft gasp to leave her lips. Sitting up trainer and Pokemon looked at what caused it.
It was something quite vibrantly blue, and didn't seem to move. So, it most definitely wasn't a Pokemon, though it didn't look like any berry Sonia had seen. There was another snap heard from overhead, this time Sonia curled herself into a ball, Mana hissing as the thud sounded nearby. Uncurling herself, Sonia saw another one within reach. She blinked at them before picking one up and tapping it. It was quite hard. That's when it clicked.
"It's okay Mana. They are just apricorns, and this is an apricorn tree." Sonia soothed the bristling eeveelution, petting her head and smoothing a hand over her frills. Mana was quick to go quiet and purr instead. Deeming the apricorns potentially useful, Sonia picked them up and stored them in her bag.
Well, she was awake now. Might as well get up and continue her travels.
It was definitely starting to get warmer the further away she got from the water, which was quite a relief. Mana didn't seem too disappointed yet, she was leaving what Sonia could guess had been her home. Or at least a part of it. But if it was warming up, then may e the snow and ice would go away a little quicker and spring would come. Not that she'd hold her breath for that. She was going to have to get used to the weather in Arciel eventually, better to deal with the worst and save the best for last.
Distracted in her thoughts, Sonia didn't notice that the patch of hardened snow turned into a patch of ice with a thin layer of water. Even her boots couldn't help her and she cried out as her feet slipped out from under her. She hard on her behind, hissing in a breath at the shock. Mana mewled her concern, quickly pacing around Sonia while she caught her breath.
Only, there was another squeak, and that most definitely wasn't Sonia. She sighed, using Mana's strudy shoulder as a crutch to help herself up. Then peeked around for the source of the sound. Either Mana didn't notice the little Shroomish having difficulties, or hadn't cared in favor of helping Sonia. The girl frowned slightly as she carefully stepped around the Vaporeon to get a better look.
There was another squeak as the Shroomish's barely there legs slipped out from under it on a different patch of ice. That one seemed to have more water though, and it was hard to tell but it looked like the small Pokemon was shivering. Sliding her feet until she hit the easier to walk on snow, the compassionate young woman stepped carefully towards the Shroomish. She wasn't trying to hide and was spotted quickly, the shroom blinking slowly at her with a sad little frown on it's face. Getting closer now, it was most definitely shivering. There was no way Sonia could just leave the little one sitting there. It was still winter, probably one of the worst seasons for grass types.
Once she found the edge of the icy patch, Sonia began sliding her feet across, boots making the water ripple with the motions. Once she was within reaching distance, Sonia squatted and carefully pulled the Pokemon into her arms. There was a few squeaks, a few wiggles until Sonia shushed the Pokemon gently. Standing again she turned and slid her way back to Mana. The grass type was then set on Mana's shoulder temporarily while Sonia dug in her bag.
She knew keeping her scarf and hat in her bag had been a good idea, even if she didn't typically like wearing them. She opened the hat as wide as it would go and guided the fabric around what was the back of the Pokemon. Black beads of eyes stared at her in wonder as the scarf was wrapped around the rest of the shroom's body. She was being so kind, and already the grass type was feeling warmer. But Sonia went even further than that, unzipping her jacket slowly before lifting the bundled Pokemon to bundle her even further. The Pokemon squeaked before nestling into the girl's chest, the zipper getting done up slightly to keep the Pokemon warm. And warm she was! The shroomish hummed softly, feet wiggling as the scarf helped dry her for the most part.
Sonia began walking again, taking slow steps now before she was looking for a place without snow. Surely that would be better for the Shroomish.
She still ended up walking for a good twenty minutes before she found a place she deemed suitable. It was another tree, this one not seeming to bear any fruit or nut. But would be a good place for the Shroomish to hole up until the weather warmed up further. So once again the jacket was opened and Sonia was attempting to pull out the Shroomish, but instead she squeaked and squirmed unhappily. And even once the Pokemon was back on the ground it began to jump at Sonia, trying to get back onto her lap.
Sonia tilted her head before she was opening her mind to the Pokemon who was also surprisingly quite open. "Would you like to come with us?" She asked. The Pokemon trilled in response, jumping at her again. So Sonia brought out a ball, tapping the button quickly in an attempt to stop herself from getting battered any further.
Oh! Sonia knew this could happen, though that didn't mean she hadn't actually thought it would happen like this. The ball popped open, the Shroomish freeing herself with a startled cry. Sonia gasped softly, hand going to her mouth before being held outwards in a placating gesture.
"Shh shh. I'm sorry little one. I didn't mean it like that. I'm so sorry." She broadcasted from her mind, keeping her voice soft and gentle. She moved to pick up the ball, something she had thought would be broken. But it was still useable from what she could tell. Picking it up, she closed it, and when there was an angry (or worried) trill she slid it back into her pocket to hold up her hands. "See? It's gone." Sonia tried to soothe as she sat back down.
Though she still got buffeted by a quick tackle attack before the mushroom was sitting in hr lap and snuggling down into the warmth. Mana began to flare her frills, preparing to hiss when Sonia shushed her as well and gestured for her to lay down, patting the space beside them again. Mana still didn't seem happy about it, but laid down nonetheless. Noting that the hat and scarf had come off because of the attempted capture, Sonia quickly grabbed them up, and oh so gently put them back on the Shroomish. Beady black eyes stared up at her, still worried about what the girl may do.
"I'm sorry." She soothed again, patting down and rubbing the scarf clad Pokemon. "Let's get you warmed back up little one." Sonia smiled gently as she continued her actions, rubbing down the grass type before tucking it gently back into her jacket.
"I'm still new to all this you see, and I didn't really think it through. Today has been a very interesting day." Her 'voice' had become a murmur. "Today I found out that I could make friends with Pokemon, and I've helped and caught a few already today. And I'm used to not having friends, and I became a little thoughtless in the process to make more. So I'm very sorry little Shroomish." She softly explained herself. "But friends need to talk to each other, and I should have asked you first if you wanted to come along with me. I'm very sorry that I didn't and ended up scaring you in the process. Could you forgive me?"
The Pokemon didn't, met her gaze, Mana huffing slightly in her want to move on. It was starting to get windy now, and of course it was just making the outside world that much colder. Sonia winced as she was assaulted by a gust, feeling her cheeks tingle with the cold. "Will you come with me Shroomish? I think you're adorable, and I wouldn't want to leave you by yourself. It's still winter and you could freeze out here. If you come with me, you'll be warm and safe until I can get you inside. What do you say?" Sonia asked of the Pokemon this time holding out one of the balls this time.
The Shroomish stared at it for a long while before looking up to Sonia. She couldn't tell if the Pokemon was shivering from the cold or the fear. But just maybe there was something expectant about the look? So Sonia tapped the ball to the Pokemon and waited, knowing full well if she was wrong the Pokemon would likely run away. As much as that would be a shame, Sonia also understood.
Though she'd very much like to nickname the little one Shitake.....
Once again the ball broke open, and surely this time it would break? But more importantly, was the Shroomish. It shrieked, causing Sonia to wince, and then it was releasing yellow spores from the top of it's head. Of course they hit Sonia, making her cough and tense up as the spores also washed over Mana.
Stun spore, most definitely. But they caused the duo to tense up, feeling like pins and needles but all over their bodies. And this let the Shroomish wriggle away, leaving the warmth of Sonia's lap in favor of getting away. There was a burrow under the roots of the tree, and that is where she squirmed into it to hide.
The stun spore last long enough for the Shroomish to get away. And then Sonia could move, standing up to shake off the remaining spores. Mana growled as she too shook of before looking to Sonia and tilting her head. Sonia looked down, and gave a slight shrug. "You win some, you lose some." Though she still frowned, feeling a little bad about the encounter. She had enjoyed cuddling with the Shroomish while it lasted.
And upon spotting the hole that was the entrance to the den, she took her scarf and carefully stuffed it into the entrance. Hopefully it would help keep the grass type warm. Sighing wistfully she looked away from the den to Mana, stepping forward and scratching around the base of her frilled neck. "Come on, I think I can see Cedar Town from here." Sonia smiled as Mana mewled before they began the final trek.
