“Let’s keep moving, Scoria.” The waves were choppy, and the weather was quite cold, but Nadine had still determined that this was a good day to try to swim to Plum City, which was across a decent sized body of water. She wore a pale green wetsuit to try to keep her warmer in case she fell in the water, though she hoped that it wouldn’t come to that. After all, the wetsuit would only protect her from so much of the cold.
Scoria on the other hand, her Lapras, swam like she felt right at home in the freezing waters. Then again, given that she was an Ice Pokemon, she probably did.

Nadine pulled into a small island, the ground covered in moist sand. Scoria had been swimming for over an hour now, and it was high time that they had a break. It was lunchtime, after all.
Finding an empty spot to lay several food bowls, Nadine filled them to the top with some Pokemon food that she kept in a plastic baggie for occasions such as this one. She released all her partners from their pokeballs, and after a few minutes, she was eating her own sandwich while sitting next to them. Lunch was peaceful, as was the cleanup. Nadine was making her way to the water, when a man dressed in a sailor suit made his way to her.
“Your team looks strong. Would you want to battle?”
Nadine smiled at the compliment, before nodding her head at him. Challenge accepted.
“Skarn, get ready for battle!” Her Bulbasaur took position in front of her, facing the opponent’s Ducklett. The Ducklett attacked first, hitting Skarn with a Water Gun. Her partner was pushed back with the strength of the flow, but managed to stay on his feet.
“Use Vine Whip!” Long vines came out of the bulb on her partner’s back, before lashing forward and hitting the Ducklett directly. It was an extra effective attack, and it looked like it hurt. In retaliation, her opponent used Wing Attack, which Skarn tried to dodge, though not successfully. It hit one of his legs, and he stumbled.
“Vine whip again!” Her Bulbasour attacked his opponent with the long vines once again, this time leaving the Ducklett prone on the ground, unable to continue.

After gathering all her possessions, Nadine recalled all of her partners back into their pokeballs, with the exception of Scoria. Climbing back onto the Lapras’ back, they continued to move forward, toward their next destination.
They were fifteen minutes in, when Scoria made a sound, as if to catch Nadine’s attention. “Everything okay, Scoria? Did you see something?” She circled a particular area, and the explorer’s eyes widened as she spotted the spark of color that had caught her partner’s eye.
“Is that…an apricorn?”
Reaching down, Nadine grabbed on to the blue sphere, and looked at it closely. “What do you know, somebody must have dropped it. She eyed the back of Scoria’s head. “I’m kinda surprised that it didn’t sink.” With that, she placed it in her bag, and they continued to swim forward.

“Skarn, come out!” The Bulbasaur came out of his pokeball, landing on Scoria the Lapras’ back, along with his trainer. They sat vertically to their opponent, a Frillish that blocked their path, seemingly feeling territorial about that area of water. A quick battle shouldn’t delay their trip by too much.
“Use Vine Whip!” Long green vines shot out of the bulb on Skarn’s back, hitting the opposing Pokemon over his jelly-like head. Unamused by the attack, the wild Frillish used Night Shade in return. Skarn flinched in discomfort, their close quarters on Scoria’s back making I hard to dodge much of anything. They had to finish this quickly.
“Come on Skarn, he should be weak to grass type attacks. Use Vine Whip one more time, and give it your all!” Following his trainer’s advice, the Bulbasaur used Vine Whip once again, hitting the opponent with all his strength.
It worked, and down went the Frillish. They could move forward.
Nadine adjusted her position on Scoria’s shell, her eyes on the ocean ahead of them. It was all blue, with hints of color here and there. It was actually quite beautiful. Even though she didn’t explore the ocean often, it was something that she largely enjoyed doing. A bright pop of color caught her eye, and Nadine watched it from the distance of a few feet.
“Look at that, Scoria! It’s a Bruxish!” The water Pokemon swam deeper under the waves, her colors no longer visible. “They really are pretty, huh Skarn?” The Bulbasaur was busy resting off the last battle, his eyes closing as he dozed off.
“Berries!” Nadine leaned down as she picked the Chesto Berries from their branches, adding them to the small pocket that she kept for berries inside her backpack. They’d pulled into a small island about half an hour ago, so that Scoria could take a breather. While stretching her legs, Nadine had found the small bush. It was a pleasant surprise.
“Are you ready to keep going, Scoria?” She eyed the Lapras, who seemed energetic once again. They’d been on the water for several hours now, but they still had a fair amount left to go. Still, Scoria had never trekked this far, and frequent breaks were important. “Let’s go.”
She was climbing onto Scoria’s back when she heard the high-pitched voice. “Wait! Do you want to battle?”
Turning to see where it came from, Nadine spotted a brown haired girl with a bathing suit, two pokeballs clutched against her palm.
“Sure, I wouldn’t mind a quick battle before heading off again.” Nadine slipped back onto the ground, before standing opposite her new opponent. The girl stood closer to the edge of the ocean, before releasing a Feebas into the water. “Flint, come on out.” Nadine released her Fletchling from his pokeball, and he flew above them both, eyes on his opponent.
“Use Quick Attack!” Flint flew down at top speed, pushing his weight against the Feebas, who ended up getting pushed under the water. Flint flew back up into the air, in an attempt to avoid getting wet. The attempt was mostly successful, though he was hit with a few drops of water as Feebas used Splash.
“Use peck this time!” Flint directed his beak towards his opponent, hitting him with full force. He was hit with another Splash, before performing a second Peck attack, which caused the Feebas to flee towards his trainer, counting him out.
“Good job, Flint. You can go ahead and dry off.” Nadine recalled Flint, and released Skarn, her Bulbasaur. Her opponent released a Qwilfish, which had to be one of the tiniest she’d ever seen. Still, the Qwilfish had an attitude bigger than her size, and she started off the battle with a Hydro Pump.
Skarn, evidently distracted by her size as well, was caught unaware, and took the attack full force. Getting up from the ground, he Vine Whip to slash at the water Pokemon. The Qwilfish prepared another Hydro Pump, but Skarn beat her to it with another Vine Whip. Realizing that her opponent was stronger than expected, the Qwilfish used Harden, strengthening her outer skin.
It wasn’t enough. After the third Vine Whip, she was out for the count.
Look at that Mantine, Scoria! A fairly large blue shape manifested several feel away from them, its wing-like limbs spread wide. It was a beautiful sight, but the wild Pokemon was careful to stay a fair distance away from them. Nadine didn’t get to see them often, so just this moment was a treat to enjoy.
After a moment, the form disappeared, leaving the water clear and blue again. Once again facing forward, Nadine leaned forward, resting both her hands on the Lapras’ shell. “We’re making good time; let’s keep moving forward.” The sun was still shining bright and sunny.

“Alright Scoria, we’re now past the halfway mark. You’re doing great.” They’d been swimming for close to 45 minutes now, and Nadine wanted to keep the pace that they were going. They suddenly swam over a dark area, which was strange. Scoria slowed down as well, her eyes alert. “It’s…a group of Relicanth.” Nadine hadn’t realized that they traveled in groups, though these particular Relicanth might just be an exception.
There were maybe six of them, and they all swam past her. All except one. He seemed to liger under them for a moment, before moving forward. Had he been gauging them as a threat?
Either way, it seemed that they’d passed his inspection.

They’d been swimming for over an hour now, and a storm was brewing. The sky was dark, and the bit of warmth that they’d been absorbing from the sunshine was now gone. Nadine frowned as she felt a few drops of water land on her forehead, and hoped that it was from Scoria’s arms treading the water. But she didn’t think that was the case.
Her suspicions were confirmed when it started to rain full force, thunder and all. She led Scoria to small island, where they hid under a large tree. A pink form darted away as they got settled underneath it. A Corsola.
“It looks like everyone is trying to get away from this rain.”
