Fayne Abernathy
Age 18 years Birthday November 18, 2001 Gender Female Pronouns She/Her Orientation Bicurious Faction Citizen Class Researcher Rank (Rank I) Beaker Washer Occupation Petrologist & Evolution Stone Specialist Hometown Bellevue, Alfrim Current Residence Birch City, Arciel | Personality resolute • active • righteous • aloof • scholarly (351 words) Fayne tends to act tough, pretending to be all work and no play. She likes to stay active and get her hands dirty. She’s not a stereotypical “tomboy,” though. She also cares about her appearance, enjoys a nice spa day, and gawks at pretty clothes. She has a bad habit of insisting that nothing interests her. Maybe it’s her inner hipster, or maybe she just doesn’t want people to figure her out, but even if she clearly loves a cup of coffee or is staring longingly at a book, she will deny any attraction. “It’s alright,” “It’s fine, I guess,” “Who would like that?” Watching Pokemon Contests are a guilty pleasure of hers, probably due in part to her father being a judge back in Alfrim and having brought her to some when she was a child. She doesn’t hesitate to do what she feels is right — mom is a cop and instilled her with a strong moral compass from a young age. With that said, she is quite the introvert; she would rather curl up in a beanbag chair with a good book or dig for rare minerals in her backyard than go out and socialize. Not to be mistaken with being shy or socially awkward. She’s not afraid of talking to new people and she’s not unsure how to communicate, she’d just rather be doing other things. She will open up, laugh, and chat for hours with a close friend, however. She is, without a doubt, very intelligent and she loves learning new things. Though she may not share her theories and findings via lectures or carefully written essays, she does take diligent notes in her handbook. The book is filled with decent sketches and colored photographs of gem, rocks, and Evolutionary Stones. She’s on a mission to obtain as much knowledge as possible and, with any luck, to one day make a ground-breaking discovery of her own. At the end of the day, she still has a lot to learn about herself and her field of interest, but she’s willing and ready to tackle the world head-on. History (1,007 words) Fayne Abernathy was born on a frosty November morning in the city of Bellevue, Alfrim. Once a beautiful island full of rare, unique, and mysterious Pokemon, this region had long since been dominated by human interference and technological advancements. With rampant deforestation making way for concrete buildings and man-made machinery, there was no longer a place for most of the native species. Where herds of Tauros ran free and Serperiors hid amongst trees, Porygon, Rotom, and Magnemite now reigned supreme. Even the legendary beasts who once ruled over the region had since been chased off or killed, long since forgotten by the residents. This dependence on technology at the expense of nature was the source of much backlash, and many citizens were eager to voice their complaints. Fayne's mother was one such person. Though she upheld the law as a police officer and helped contribute to society by putting away criminals and stopping dangerous Pokemon from wrecking havoc, she disapproved of the region's dependence on machinery and the reckless disregard for the region's natural wilderness and beauty. She was a good mother and instilled Fayne with a strong moral compass at a young age, but she spoke her mind, even when her beliefs were disagreeable. She was never one to sugarcoat how she really felt, and she frequently reminisced about the natural beauty the island apparently once hand. Her ceaseless complaints left Fayne with an appreciation for nature. Her father, on the other hand, was a connoisseur of the arts and had a deep appreciation for all Pokemon, no matter how artificial. He was far more passive than his wife and was far more reserved in speaking his mind, not because he was afraid of getting into an fight or was too shy to speak up, but because he thought some things weren’t worth arguing over. Instead, he kept his opinions to himself and maintained a positive outlook on life. Though Pokemon such a Porygon, Voltorb, and Golett were human creations and were "cold, heartless Pokemon," -- according to his wife, at least -- that didn't discount the fact that they were also unique and alive. Being a judge at the local contest hall, he knew that each living creature had its own personality and talent. The expansion of technology in the region also meant there were more contest halls and more tools at coordinators' disposal. Fayne's father never lectured her the same way her mother did; instead, he would bring her with him to watch some contests and let her make up her own mind about technology and "cold Pokemon." Due in part to the contests she saw growing up, Fayne learned to have an appreciation for modern technology. Even though she grew up in a strained political climate, with half the population against the technological advances and the other half for, the arguing never got to her. Her parents were kind, loving, and nurturing; and although they could be strict at times, as all parents could, they were always there for her when it mattered. They let Fayne form her own thoughts and opinions — and though her mother was always more outspoken about her own beliefs, she never put her daughter down. It was ultimately the evolution of the family Growlithe that first made Fayne curious about the idea of Evolution Stones. Initially, she was confused by her mother's apparent approval of Evolution Stones but obvious disapproval of evolution items such as UpGrades and Trade Links. They were all used for evolution, as so Fayne believed they were all man-made. It wasn't until she began attending the Pokemon Academy For Youngsters when she realized that Evolution Stones were a naturally occurring phenomenon where minerals, rocks, and stones were infused with a mysterious radiation that caused certain Pokemon to evolve. While at this school, she also learned about man-made evolution items, but they never interested Fayne as much as the naturally occurring Evolution Stones. Years passed, and Fayne pushed off becoming a trainer in favor of continuing her studies. She graduated from the Pokemon Academy For Youngsters and attended the local Trainers’ School, where she learned how to properly capture, train, and care for a Pokemon team. It was during this time that the Ultra Beasts emerges from their portals to wreck havoc across the world. Though Alfrim was left virtually untouched, they sent many trainers and resources to nearby regions in an attempt to lend some aid. As far as Fayne was concerned, however, the Ultra Beasts didn’t impact her daily life, so she paid it little mind. It was merely something she’d heard about in the news and in passing. When Fayne turned 18, she decided against attending Bellevue University to study as research assistant for the region’s professor, and she instead decided to start her travels... outside of Alfrim. The region was too saturated with technology, and the researchers in the area only cared about one thing: machinery and artificial Pokemon. Fayne wanted to go some place where she could conduct proper field studies and could receive the help she needed by scholars who were willing to listen to her theories. Partially because she’d heard that the mines in Arciel were full of Evolution Stone deposits, and partially because Arciel was one of the nearest regions, Fayne sent an application to Professor Holly. Attached was an essay she’d written about the possibility of humans replicating the Evolution Stones' radiation within a controlled environment, such as a lab. Namely, she was curious to know if humans could make man-made Evolutionary Stones without having to rely on miners disturbing natural deposits. When she received the acceptance letter, Fayne packed a suitcase, bid her parents farewell, and hopped on the first ferry out. Upon arriving in Birch City, Fayne found a townhouse that she rented with a young, mute woman named Sonia and immediately got to work familiarizing herself with the city. After a couple weeks, she decided it was time to meet Professor Holly in order to start her adventure and begin her research. Goals » Capture at least 1 Eevee, 1 Houndour or Growlithe, and 1 Axew. » Learn more about Evolution Stones, such as how they get infused with radiation in the first place, whether it’s possible for a human to replicate the stone-radiating process in a lab, where each stone can be found in Arciel, etc. » Learn more about the unique effects of Everstones and Oval Stones. One of her working theories is that Oval Stones are merely a placebo to help Happiny and possibly even Baby Kanghaskan evolve. More research is required. (Disclaimer, Fayne’s curiosity about whether Oval Stones could be used to make a Baby Kanghaskan evolve is purely for IC research purposes and is not reflective of anything staff has planned regarding the species.) » Discover a new Evolution Stone. It's unlikely, Fayne knows this, but it would still be a dream come true if she did. » Learn how to excavate, cut, and embellish Evolutionary Stones to meet marketplace standards and, by extension, how to spot fake Evolution Stones. » One day, open up an Evolution Stone boutique. |
Appearance
Height 5'03" / 161.5cm Build Average, Somewhat Muscular Hair Color Magenta Eye Color Red-Pink | (192 words) Fayne is of average weight and height for most young women her age. Clocking in at 130lbs and 5'03", she is neither an intimidating force of nature nor a scrawny kid capable of being pushed around. Her slight muscular disposition may make it seem as though she works out often or has a tendency to get into fist-fights, but this is far from accurate. From a young age, she loved exploring nature and staying active by chasing local Pokemon, and that physicality followed her well into her adolescence and young adult life. Because of how active she is, Fayne keeps her magenta hair short and out of her face with bobby pins and hair clips. Her clothes vary significantly depending on where she's going, what she's doing, and who she's meeting with. While adventuring, for instance, she defaults to a regular t-shirt, fingerless gloves, black leggings, a skirt, a belt capable of holding Pokeballs, hiking boots, and a backpack. However, when she's in the research facility, conducting studies on stones and other evolutionary items, she is dressed in proper lab gear, including but not limited to gloves, goggles, and a lab coat. Aura Fayne's aura swirls around her being, staying close to her center and never straying too far. Like a beautiful sunset changing the color the sky as dusk begins to fall, Fayne's aura too shifts in color, primarily made up of orange and yellows but with hints of red and blue near the edges. When she is calm and collected, her entire aura takes on a lighter shade of blue; and when she's battling or excited, it grows darker and is overcome with a red hue. |

Due to her up-bringing, she also has a fondness for steel and electric types. » Although Mega Stones are a type of “evolution stone,” the fact that their effects are temporary and can be used repeatedly makes them of little interest to Fayne. The Evolution Stones that cause a permanent transformation and lose their radiation after a single use — such as Leaf, Fire, and Thunder Stones — are of greater interest to her. Everstones also pique her curiosity due to their ability to prevent natural evolution from occurring. Pokemon

App Revision Changelong:
» I separated her personality into paragraphs and added spaces between the goals for ease of reading.
» I changed some wording in her goals to help clarify exactly what she hopes to research: Evolution Stones and how they came to be. Disclaimer, Fayne’s curiosity about whether Oval Stones could be used to make a Baby Kanghaskan evolve is purely for IC research purposes and is not reflective of anything staff has planned regarding the species.
» An "Other Note" was added to further clarify her scientific discipline, since there seemed to be some confusion about that.
» All mentions of PokeFusion were replaced with technological advancements.
» I took 5 skill points from Dexterity and applied it to Performance (Stage Presence) [ie, being able to stand, speak, and behave in front of crowds] since her father was a contest judge, so she likely has some knowledge of how to perform on stage.
» The skills with 10 skill points were knocked down to Level 0 since I re-read the rules and realized Level 1 isn't obtained until 11 points have been put into a skill.
» I broadened all mention of technological advancements in Alfrim, elaborated on the region's rampant deforestation, and removed the emphasis of "artificial Pokemon" in her history -- now the only mention of "artificial Pokemon" is in regards to canon species, such as Porygon, Voltorb, and Golett.
» Disclaimers were added to the "Oval Stone/Kangaskhan theory" and "discover new stone" goals to help clarify that they are merely theories Fayne would like to explore, even if they yield no results.
