By the time Josh and Saber were able to stand, the five Leafeon were angrily staring at him, their sharp leaves swaying in the wind. Seeing how vastly outnumbered was, he panic-released the entire rest of his team, keeping Saber back as personal protection. Looking around at the neck of the woods they were in, the young man came to the realization that this is roughly where that one Eevee that ran off with his Ice Stone was. Was that the reason all these Leafeon were so mad at him? He let out a loud scream fueled by pure fear for his life. It only took a single Glaceon to injure him last time. If these five got the better of his team...he probably wasn't making it out alive.
Aslan and Nitro, the fearless Litleo and Skiddo, stepped forward in front of their teammates. The cub inhaled deeply before sounding a loud and proud roar, the pack shaking in fright before shaking their heads almost in unison. Nitro started prancing about, whipping up a Razor Leaf gust to try countering as much of the similar one coming from the brightly-colored alpha of the pack. The counterattack did very little, his entire team pelted with sharp, fast-moving leaves. Josh was protected from the majority of the attack but still suffered a couple of minor cuts. That T-shirt he was wearing would be on its last days, too - its sides were rather shredded.
Twilight took the lead and started singing an eerie dirge that sounded like an evil cult's ritual. Three black flames appearing above the heads of every Pokémon within three hundred feet--Josh's and Koa's included. "Call your Pokémon back, Koa! This is Perish Song!" The remaining Leafeon all charged Twilight and sliced their sharp forehead leaves all over her, blemishing the Absol's fur black from her serious wounds that simple medicine from a Pokémon Mart probably would not be able to fix. After the coordinated assault, one of the black flames for each Pokémon went out.
Forced to recall his Absol, Aslan and Nitro were next, focusing on the alpha. With great bravery, the fire-type cub ignited his red fur, lowered his head, and joined the Skiddo in ramming her down. Three of the Leafeon, including the largest one that Josh had his eyes on catching, chomped down with teeth that appeared sharper than the leaves on their head and tail even, the back two Leafeon following up with Magical Leaf and Razor Leaf attacks, respectively. Josh's Electric-types were well out of range of the attacks, but there was little he could do to save the two Pokémon. Another flame went out above the five Leafeon as well as the two Electric-types. All four of his other Pokémon had been decimated.
Josh's sudden panic worried Koa. Something about these Leafeon shook Josh to his very core, and he could feel that from how he was acting. In a panic, Josh released his entire team to take on the threat of the angry Leafeon, but it didn't seem to be enough. Suddenly his Absol, Twilight, started using Perish Song. The eerie song made Koa shiver, but he quickly recalled all of his Pokemon when Josh told him to. Twilight was putting itself in grave danger to save her trainer, but what would the cost be?
The battle raged on despite most of Josh's team being knocked out. All he could do was watch as the Leafeon angrily attacked Josh's Pokemon as the Perish Song was still a ways out from taking full effect. He felt powerless and unable to help when that should have been his duty. Sadly though, his strength and the strength of his Pokemon just weren't enough to handle wild Pokemon like this.
There had to be something he could do. Anything. As he saw Twilight's wounds mount, he knew there was something he had to do. Against his better judgement, he ran forward in an attempt to reach Twilight. Even if he got hit by a stray attack, he grit his teeth and pushed forward as he slid towards Twilight. He took a deep breath and placed his hands on the Absol. With a sharp exhale, he channeled some of his aura into Twilight's body to alleviate some of the pain. He wasn't strong enough to totally heal her wounds, but he hoped it was enough to keep her safe. It was exhausting...the battle still raging around him and the threat of being targeted by the Leafeon in the process made concentration difficult. However, he pushed his body to its limits to save this Absol. She was about to risk her life to save her trainer. He couldn't just stand by and watch, so he decided this was how he was going to help her.
His breathing started to get ragged, but he persevered the best he could. He remembered how many Pokemon suffered in the wake of the Ultra Beast attack. He wanted to dedicate himself, body and soul, to the safety of Pokemon. He had to push himself harder. Train his body. Train this power. Now was the ultimate test. "I have to help...somehow..." He said, exhausted. "You'll be okay..." He said to Twilight. "Your trainer...needs you." He struggled to keep channeling his aura and his hands started to shake. Finally, he couldn't do it anymore as he fell back, breathing heavily from the exertion. "I...I did all I could for now..."
(Stamina Improvement check. Koa is pushing himself to the limit to use Aura Channeling in the middle of a battlefield.) -----
Only one line of defense remained for Josh - his two electric Pokémon, Saber and Blitz. Saber was already wounded from the scuffle with the Rhyhorn, but bravely stood in front of their trainer. The Luxio went down in a single blow to the powerful, heat-seeking Magical Leaf cluster the bright Leafeon fired at the two. Saber was quite banged up, but still standing. Quickly pulling out two more Great Balls from his stash, Josh tossed one at the alpha and a second at the largest of the Leafeon standing.
Koa's efforts seemed to at least diminish Twilight's pain, though her skin was just as blemished as when she fell. At the very least she wouldn't be too uncomfortable if she woke up before they got to the Pokémon Center. Thankfully, Ash City wasn't terribly far. They would need to go the rest of the way on foot, which Josh was not used to, but he did not care - getting his team admitted to the Center was his number one priority after this was over.
After the Balls made contact, every Pokémon's final flame went out. One final, demonic-sounding chord boomed in the area of where Twilight once stood. Saber had fainted, as well as the entirety of the swarm. Josh dropped to his knees, physically and mentally spent. "Be ready with your Drampa, in case we need to get away," he requested of Koa. "They can't catch us in the air." He stared at both of the blue Balls, crossing his fingers...

Great Balls at the shiny Leafeon and the Brave-natured Large Leafeon.
The attempts to capture the Leafeon didn't go as well as they had hoped. They were both free and they were still angry from the looks of it. "Josh, recall Twilight." He tossed Kupuna's Pokeball behind him. The Drampa appeared next to Josh and lowered herself down so he could climb onto her back "Get on and go. I'll catch up." He said as he approached the Leafeon.
He took a deep breath and took a wide stance to look big and intimidating. He waved his arms "Hey!" He shouted "He had nothing to do with what happened! Now you'd better leave him alone or you'll have to get through me, got it?" He circled around them, prepared to make a run for Kupuna when the time came. "Rebuild your territory and don't take it out on the travelers! Look! Do we look like someone who could destroy your home that quickly? Go!" He said in a continuous attempt to chase of the Leafeon. He hated seeming threatening, but sometimes he had to be in order to spook Pokemon away from travelers.
He took another confident, threatening step forward, trying to hide his current exhaustion. He shouted "I said go! Tend to your injured and leave travelers alone!" He raised his voice more as he took a step back. After a few moments he would turn and make a run for Kupuna. He hopped on and looked back at the group of Leafeon, hoping that he succeeded in his intimidation. If not, he might get a couple of cuts and bruises on his run back, but either way they were getting out of here.
(+15 Charisma to roll to intimidate the angry Leafeon.)
While the two Leafeon were putting up capture resistance, Josh took Koa's suggestion, recalling all of his fainted Pokémon. His entire team was unable to combat - if those Leafeon broke out of their Poké Balls, the two of them were going to take a serious beating. Kupuna floated next to him, beckoning him to climb on. The scared racer did so, but started to object after the trainer's next words. "But what about you?" he asked. Was this fledgling Ranger going to sacrifice himself for Josh?
The two Leafeon growled and flexed their legs in response to Koa's speech, Josh worried for him. He really was going to sacrifice himself if they did call his bluff. At least Koa was buying time. That's it! He was giving Josh another chance to defeat the Leafeon by catching them! He only had two more Great Balls left, but that was exactly enough! He tossed them at the snarling wilds, barely nicking the shiny one as it started to lunge at Koa. "Hop on and let's get out of here!" Josh shouted with the utmost urgency.

Throwing Great Balls again at both the remaining Leafeon.
Without missing a beat, Koa dove for the Pokeball for the captured Leafeon. Once he picked it up, he rushed to Kupuna and swiftly mounted "Kupuna, go now!" He ordered as the Drampa roared and started to float down the route as fast as she could away from the remaining Leafeon. His heart was pounding, but he handed over the Pokeball "Thanks for that capture. Quick thinking...phew." He wiped his brow as it seemed they were finally home free.
Once they were far enough away, Kupuna slowed down a bit and they proceeded at a more leisurely pace towards Ash City "At this rate we'll be at the city soon. Josh, you doing okay? Your team got pretty hurt back there...nothing a trip to the Pokemon Center won't fix, but that still doesn't change what happened. I know how much of a toll that can have on people." He was clearly worried for him. "Anyway, if there's anything you need to get off your chest, I'll listen while we ride the rest of the way."
Listen he will, as the two of them began to see Ash City show up in the distance. They were almost there. Today was one stressful series of events, but Koa was glad to be there for Josh. He hopefully made a friend out of this whole ordeal. For now, he focused on guiding the two of them the rest of the way so they could get Josh's team to the Pokemon Center and fast.
Josh was a little sad the pack's largest Leafeon got away, but it was a small price to pay to walk away intact. He peered inside the Leafeon's Great Ball - the grass-type was still angry, clawing at the inside of it in vain. "I get the feeling this one is going to be a handful." The remaining Leafeon gave chase, entering a full gallop and lunging for Kupuna with maw open. The Drampa floated just out of reach.
"I'm just relieved to be okay," the young man breathed a deep sigh. "They'll be okay - might need to spend a couple of extra days in Ash, though. I'll be racing with Saber this weekend if you can stay and watch." That assumed the Manectric was in good enough shape by the time the event rolled around - he would have to qualify with the same Pokémon.
When Koa asked if there was anything he needed to vent about, Josh again sighed. "This isn't the first time I've been attacked by a rogue Eevee family Pokémon in this forest," he slowly started. "In the middle of winter, an Eevee stole an Ice Stone out of my backpack while I was resting, used it to evolve, and started attacking me. Thankfully, a veteran Ranger was able to chase it off, but I still have a scar from the whole thing. And that thing was enormous."
While he might have stretched the truth a little about the size of the Glaceon, it sure felt big when he was being attacked. "This whole thing reminds me of Goldenrod's most nefarious gang, the Prism Storm. They're eight of Johto's most wanted criminals, each with a different Eevee form the size of a Rapidash. Each was valued at around a million Pen on the open market, and all of them had to be stolen." He continued to describe some of the more heinous crimes and heists they committed, and how they had all avoided capture for years.
At last, Ash City's west gate. Once Kupuna had touched down, Josh shook Koa's hand one last time before dashing off to the Pokémon Center on that side of town. "Hope to see you at the races!"
