The quiet pitter patter of rain off the umbrella and the slushy sounds of feet moving across wet grass reverberated in Atticus’s mind for a while as he walked. Eclipse was content to be close to his trainer, but he had to wonder if Atty intended to continue all the way to Birch or not. It was sort of a late time to be doing so, after all. The weight of those eggs had to be rather uncomfortable, didn’t it? Eclipse glanced up but couldn’t read any discomfort in Atticus’s expression. Perhaps he was wrong.
As they moved along, they passed a Machop who was practicing out in the rain. The sounds of her breaths as she struck one punch in the air, another, and then still another, had Atticus stop for a moment. However, when she payed neither him nor Eclipse any mind, the latter managed to usher the prior on again. If they were going to walk all the way to Birch city, Eclipse would rather be there by nightfall.

Slowly but surely, the rain had stopped falling, and Atticus carefully closed the umbrella and set it in Eclipse’s bag of things again. A cool humid mist hung in the air now, one that threatened to get one wet even without rain drops. Atticus… actually found it rather pleasant even if it worried Eclipse a little more. Breathing in this kind of air could get him sick or something.
Still, they continued on— at least until a gentle rocking had Atticus stopping short. “One of the eggs,” he muttered to Eclipse as he bent down and started to go through which one. The Umbreon could see the light well enough and rather quickly picked it out for him. Holding it close, Atticus felt over it, aware of what was inside. And then in a flash of light, a Pidgey was in his arms. The small bird chirped softly, and Atticus eased up a little smiling faintly. “Welcome to the world, Song…” he murmured. She cooed and fluttered.
Eclipse, however, was concerned. Movement had caught his eye, and now he was staring down a slow moving shadow of…. “BRI!”
Atticus snapped up. “Eclipse?” The Umbreon was lowering himself and glowering at the delinquent that was coming forward now with two Pokemon in tow.
“Hey old man, looks like you have some eggs there… why don’t you give ‘em to me…” the delinquent goaded viciously. He knew breeders made quite a lot of bang for their buck, and this guy had a lot of them! No doubt he could shake him down and reep all kinds of rewards!
His tone had Atticus frowning softly. This type of kid was one he knew well enough. Usually they came in groups, though. They’d need to be careful of that. “Sorry, these Pokemon are mine to raise,” Atticus replied softly but firmly. The small bird in his arms gave a peep sound. She was… really uncomfortable with the way this other human was eyeing her. The way the Murkrow on his shoulder also glowered didn’t help either. “It’s ok, we’ve got this…” Atticus murmured back to her. “Eclipse, are you good?”
Eclipse growled lower still. He was sure he could handle a Ghost type Shuppet, but he wasn’t sure about that Murkrow. He wished Topaz was here to back him up on this. “Bri!” he called back.
Atticus understood the tone and grabbed another Pokeball ready for if Eclipse decided to use Baton Pass, his otherwise signature move of getting out of situations he didn’t particularly want to be in. “You should leave,” Atticus warned. “There’s nothing to gain from this altercation.”
“You think you can beat me?” The delinquent asked. “Hmph, Shuppet, teach him a lesson! Curse!” The Shuppet came forward and glowed with Ghostly power extending it out and then… consuming it. Eclipse squinted unsure of what had just happened…. Up until his entire body trembled all of a sudden from the force of a Curse laid out on him. A soft cry escaped from him, both from pain and to let Atticus know what was happening. They needed to act fast.

Atticus hated this. This situation was tense, and the Pidgey in his arms was trembling. They needed to settle this quickly. Luckily it seemed they already had a Type advantage at least for now. “Snarl, Eclipse,” was the order. The Umbreon didn’t have to be told twice. The reverberation in his throat became loud and sent shock waves through the air towards the delinquent and his Pokemon. The latter reeled at the sound with the ghostly Shuppet whining and the Murkrow not battling yet wincing a bit.
The delinquent swore and then smirked as Eclipse trembled just a little under the force of the curse again. It was just a matter of time in his eyes. “Feint Attack now!” was the order, and the ghost came forward slamming into the Umbreon and knocking his harness off even. Eclipse lowered and shook allowing himself to be freed from it for the moment at least.
A call escaped from Eclipse, and he shined with Moonlight, unwilling to back down just yet. The delinquent balked at the clear ‘break’ of whatever rule he had set for this situation. “That’s not fair! Shuppet, use Will-o-Wisp!” he called. The Shuppet set out a ghostly fire that had Eclipse cringing anew. They had to end this quickly.
“Eclipse, Bite,” Atticus called. The Umbreon rushed forward and chomped down hard on the Shuppet causing her to reel and faint finally. Eclipse shook out his fur and stood strong but uncertain. This curse would continue, probably. They needed to act. Summoning up his strength, Eclipse used Baton Pass disappearing into his Pokeball and bringing forth— Tesla, the Pikachu.
Tesla was briefly surprised to be there, but on seeing his placement in the situation, he gave a low noise and sparked with Electricity. The Murkrow fidgeted uncomfortably. “Hmph, get moving you baby,” the delinquent ordered, and the bird whined again before fluttering forward. This… this was not going to end well, and the Murkrow knew it now.
“Chuuuuuu….” Tesla’s voice was self-assured and that was a cmfort to Atticus. Good good.
“Tes, Nasty Plot,” Atticus ordered. The Pikachu gave a devilish grin to the Murkrow who gulped as powerful energy wrapped around him.
“Don’t be intimidated, you dolt, Murkrow use Night Shade!” the delinquent called. The Murkrow cried out before releasing the attack in a burst at the Pikachu. The latter winced at the attack but was quick to bounce back ready and raring to go.
Atticus smirked softly. “Tesla, use Spark,” Now they’d get somewhere. The Pikachu cried out and sparked with electricity sending it crashing into the bird and fainting it on contact. The Murkrow hit the ground and remained still. There was no way she was going to be able to get up from a super charged attack like that even if she tried.
A soft “chuu” escaped from Tesla, letting Atty know that it had been a direct hit and that there was no further motion from the Pokemon. Atticus let out a breath he wasn’t even aware he had been holding.

The delinquent froze. Looking down at his beaten Pokemon and then up at the man again who still remained crouched and holding onto the Pidgey, he was out of words for a moment.
“How… how dare you up!” he shouted extending a finger and pointing it directly at Atticus. In a blur, Atticus was aware of the motion of the figure. “I’ll.. I’ll… you haven’t heard the last of me!” he shouted before turning to run away.
Tesla was not about to let him run unscathed, however. He was a brave warrior, and he was going to play his part. Rushing forwad with a Feint, he knocked into the delinquent and caused him to fall to the ground hard. The delinquent scrambled to get up and scuttle away ignoring all the things he had dropped in the process. “You haven’t heard the last of me!” he shouted again dramatically.
As the sounds of the man retreating echoed in his ears, Atticus sighed softly and redirected his attention down to the shivering Pidgey again. She looked up at him, wide with uncertainty and confusion over what she had just seen. “Sorry, it’s normally much more peaceful than that… I promise…” Atticus murmured.
“I know that was a lot of excitement for you, do you want to take a small break?” Fishing out a Pokeball, Atticus held it to the Pidgey. She looked from him to the Pokeball and back again. He seemed… at least capable and protective… A slow chirp of acceptance escaped from her, and with that, she pecked the Pokeball disappearing inside thereafter. The ball actually shook just a bit before dinging in capture, a nod to her hesitation but overall reassurance.
A soft breath escaped from Atticus thereafter. “Tes? You ok?” He knew Eclipse wasn’t, but there wasn’t much he could do about that right then without a Pokemon center nearby. They probably would have to hurry on to Birch at this rate.
Tesla, meanwhile, had other plans, and was picking up all of the stuff the delinquent had left behind. Sauntering back over with the items in arms, he held them up for Atticus to examine. “What is all of this stuff…” Atticus shook his head. Tesla huffed. They’d won it fair and square! “Mmmmmm…” Slowly, Atticus took it and put it away for now. He’d figure out what he wanted to do with all of it later. “Can you be my guide for a bit, Tes? I don’t want Eclipse to hurt too much….” The Pikachu was quick to speak back up! Yes! He could totally do it! Atticus nodded. “Thanks…”
With Eclipse in poor condition, Atticus and Tesla made their way quickly to Bass. Even with his depleting vision, Atticus could see the lights of the city now. They would be there soon, and he was grateful for it. As they moved along, they happened to pass a Hitmontop that was training out by herself. She briefly showed interest in Tesla, but when he explained the situation with a well-timed call, she understood. Another time, perhaps. Finally, though, they made it.
