It was storming, yet Atticus found himself on the longest route of Arciel: the connection to the east and the west. Grasping the umbrella he had in firmly in one hand and Eclipse’s harness in the other, he continued walking unhampered by the storms. Upon his back was the first batch of eggs from this little experiment, and he’d taken it upon himself to assure that they hatched in a timely manner through travel.
There were other reasons to be out, though. A soft note from Ellipse warned that they should go back, probably. Wandering down this way would assure that they spend the night in Birch rather back home in Ash. But Atty didn’t want to go back, not right then. And Eclipse knew why. The Umbreon sighed and just let onwards through the wet and the mud.
Five years. It had been five years since Ken had passed, and every spring storm, Atty thought about him again. He thought about the time they had run through the rain on a dare… and fallen in the mud. He thought about the time they kissed in that stupid, hot, messy rain. He thought about all these things and then come as he walked down the path headed towards Birch. Eclipse let him without complaint.

A soft series of cries pulled Atticus from his thoughts, he stopped walking. Eclipse had been content to ignore it, assuming that whatever it was was probably fine just being rained on. Still, he stopped when Atty stopped. “Sounds like children….” Attty muttered under his breath. Eclipse was very sure they were Pokemon in some capacity or another. “Let’s go check on them….” Eclipse sighed but did as was asked, leading the way towards the source of the sound.
They’d find it in the great hollow of a tree. A small group of Teddiursa were being watched over by a Hitmonchan who immediately lept forward and made a defensive gesture to Eclipse. “Cha!” Atticus’s head jolted correctly into the right where was, and in the blur, he could almost make out her outline. Eclispe growled low back. He really didn’t want to fight something with such an obvious Type advantage to him, but he was not above it should the need arise.
“A Hitmonchan and a group of Teddiursa…. Are you protecting them?” Atticus asked. He received a soft ‘cha’ back. Atticus nodded. “Good work then… we’ll leave you be… Come on Eclipse…” The Umbreon glared and made a small note before starting to pull Atty in another direction. At least until a soft voice caught both their ears again. A single Teddirusa, the largest of them, was making baby eyes at Atticus. Too bad he couldn’t see them, and too bad Eclipse didn’t care. “Something wrong?” The Hitmochan made a low note. That one was especially troubling, so if he wanted to go off with a human…. Maybe it was for the better. The Teddiursa made a soft cry back.
Atticus half smiled and shifted his bag full of eggs trying to get comfortable before fishing out a Pokeball, holding it forward, and waiting. If it was unsure, now was the time to back out.

The Teddiursa shuffled forward, gently pressed the ball’s mechanism, disappeared inside, and then broke out immediately. Atticus felt the Pokeball physically come apart in his hand, and for a moment he blinked in confusion. The Teddiursa made a mischevious face and looked back at Atticus.
Eclipse stared with the absolutest deadpan of someone who had seen that shit before and knew what the fuck was up. A low ‘bri’ sound escaped from him. The tone was enough to make Atticus aware of what happened. A small snort escaped from him. “You’re rather mischevious aren’t you?” he asked. The Teddiursa giggled softly. Atticus shook his head and stood fully again. “Fine…. Let’s go, Eclipse…” Atticus turned, and the Teddiursa immediately seemed to fidget again uncertainly. The Hitmonchan slapped a glove over her face. Was he about to do this again? Why did she feel such resolve to take care of these unruly little bastards anyway? Oh well.
“Hm?” Atticus had started but found himself immediately dragged on by Eclipse. The Umbreon had had enough and wasn’t about to be manipulated by anyone. Atticus shrugged and walked onwards. Fair enough.
They walked on for a while. Eclipse caught sight of a Gumshoos, but when she did not attack them, he simply remained silent. It was the shaking of his shoulders that had Atticus himself stopping causing Eclipse to turn in turn. “Mind holding this, ‘Clipse?” Atty asked before handing him the umbrella. Shifting the bag off his shoulders, Atty felt around inside for which one was rocking the boat. He found it shortly after and took it out before slowly bending down to hold it closer. As he had learned time and time again, the best way to hatch a baby was to hold it, wait for it, and hug it immediately.
A light would pull through the darkness of Atty’s vision, and the egg would grow briefly before shrinking, reforming into that of an Illumise. She blinked a couple of times, slowly looking around before staring forward at Atty. She recognized him almost immediately from her dreams within her egg state, and a soft cry escaped from her before she leaned forward returning the hug. Her soft noises and gentle touch were enough to assure Atty of her species. He had a particular fondness for Bug type Pokemon of one kind or another.
“Welcome to the world,” Atticus mumbled softly before starting to stand again. Eclipse shifted awkwardly rearing up to try and keep the umbrella up over all three of them now. The Illumise shook her head and pulled out of Atty’s grip to flutter forward and rest on his shoulder. “Not bad…” Atty murmured at the weight before taking the umbrella and Eclipse’s harness again. They could walk like that for a while. There was no harm when the baby didn’t seem too frightened.

As they wandered onwards, it would be the Illumise who saw first the strange pink blob below a tree far off. What was that? She wondered fluttering up off of Atticus’s shoulder to get a better look. “Illumise?” Atticus realized then that he really needed to pick a name for her and soon. Too bad nothing was coming to mind.
Eclipse followed her with his gaze and then immediately barked out when she went towards it. <Hey! Don’t go so far!> But the Illumise wasn’t listening. She was curious now.
“After her, Clipse,” Atty ordered, and the Umbreon fluidly pulled him in that direction.
The Illumise, however, came right up on the Wigglytuff and started chatting. <Oh my gosh you’re so pink and pretty! I really like your ears!> the Illumise squeaked out. The Wigglytuff stared unamused. Looking up as Atticus and Eclipse came forward, he made a small gesture to the baby and then towards them.
Eclipse sighed and walked over to snag the Illumise by the wing, pulling her gently back and turning to push her into Atticus’s hand. The latter hugged the Bug Pokemon to himself again. Eclipse started to apologize after but was waved off. Whatever then, mph. The Illumise was still curious and wriggled form Atticus’s hand. The latter sputtered and nearly dropped his umbrella. The Wigglytuff was growing increasingly irritated and finally used a Wake-up Slap to cause her to freeze.
And then she cried, and cried. Atticus sighed, and Eclipse rolled his eyes. Perhaps now was a good time as ever to actually catch the baby and store her for later. Right then on a Route was a bit much. Atticus fumbled with a Pokeball, and Eclipse did the catch quickly. After that, they wandered on leaving the Wigglytuff alone again.
As they walked, Atticus was aware of it again. The backpack on his back was shifting, and one or more of the eggs was starting to hatch. “Clipse, can you find a safe spot?” he asked. The Umbreon’s gaze flicked about and found… a rest stop in the distance. A deep reverberation, almost a bark, escaped from him, and he was quick to lead off to the rest stop.
Just as they got there and Eclipse assisted Atticus in taking a seat, there was motion in the bag. Sure enough, a little Rockruff head popped up followed by a second. The barked a few times, and it was obvious just who they were. “Well, welcome pups,” Atticus laughed even as they struggled out from their egg holding and onto his lap.
“Easy easy…” Atticus couldn’t help but laugh as they leaned in and licked over his face, one biting his shades and yanking them off his face. Eclipse growled, but Atticus was quick to wave it off. “It’s fine…. Don’t worry…” he said feeling around and scratching the Rockruff’s ears up until the puppy gave back the shades. “Mind grabbing some Pokeballs?” Eclipse was quick to do that, and soon the Rockruff were caught.
Right in time for a sound to catch both of their ears. “Heh, looks like you have some strong Pokemon ahead of you,” a voice spoke.
Atticus looked up in the direction and could see a vague outline of a person. “They will grow….” Atticus agreed shifting a little to give enough room on the bench if the man did want to sit down. He preferred to stand however.
“How much you want for ‘em? I’m a Rock type trainer, actually,” the man said.
Atticus shook his head. “Sorry, neither of ‘em are… they’re special,” he admitted.
The man shrugged his shoulders. “Ya tryin’ to get all the Lycanroc forms then?” he asked.
“Something like that,” was the answer.
“Good luck then!” the man went on again and headed out right after. Atticus breathed out and leaned against the bench for a moment. He could hear the rain hitting the roof quietly. Yeah… these ones are special…

The sounds of rain on the roof would keep Atticus in place for a while. The Rockruff pair entertained each other (and somewhat annoyed their Umbreon caretaker) in the meantime. It would be the puppies who noticed the Cutiefly buzzing about, and quickly one raised up and snapped at it. The Cutiefly yelped startled causing Atticus to straighten and Eclipse to growl softly. “Easy Eclipse… what’s going on?” In the blur of everything, though, Atticus was aware of the movement.
The Cutiefly Struggled away from Quartz the Rockruff— causing the puppy to yelp and fall back shaking his muzzle. Flourite the other Rockruff squinted and then growled, his maw shining with some kind of elemental power before he snapped at the Cutiefly next. The Bug was bit with a shocking Thunder Fang this time which caused it to yelp again and retaliate with a Draining kiss. Falling over with a soft ‘uhmph’ sound, the Rockruff deflated right after. That hurt!
Quickly using the moment to escape, the Cutiefly went onwards avoiding the first Rockruff’s snapping advances again. Eclipse groaned and shook his head. What a pair, so unlike their mother. Atticus who could hear all of that snickered. “Sorry, Cutiefly, thanks for entertaining them…” The Cutiefly fluttered on with a soft ‘hmph’ sound. That was… good for a “first battle”, though, he’d say. A training, almost. Yeah.
Before Atticus had a chance to fully relax, however, he felt something start to shift around next to him. “Hm?” The last egg in his clutch was rocking, and Atticus was quick to refocus on it. A light grew and then shrank revealing a new Eevee in its wake. Eclipse gave a soft trill noise and almost immediately went to preening it. “Oh my….” Atticus smiled endeared.

Slowly feeling over the Eevee’s ears, Atticus couldn’t help but smile softly. It had been so long since he had raised one. Or… really… had he ever truly? While Atty had technically known Eclipse since he was an Eevee, he had been Ken’s Pokemon right then. Sure, they had kind of sort of raised him together, but it wasn’t the same, not like this alone…. Alone…
Atticus took in a slow, shaky breath. He wasn’t alone, no, not really. He knew that. Eclipse was there, as was Topaz and Sherona. It wasn’t a matter of being alone physically, however. It was… Sigh. Atticus shook his head. Better not to dwell on that now, not with a new Pokemon there right in front of him.
As if on some unknown cue, One of the Rockruff bit the other, and a fierce cry of despair escaped into the air. “Hey hey, easy you two…” Atticus spoke only to find his hands and arms licked by puppies again. A small puff of air escaped from him. How was he ever going to raise such loveable shits? Thoughts for another time. Grabbing a Pokeball, he tapped the Eevee for now making sure that he’d stay his for now.
The rain seemed to be clearing at least from the sound and Eclipse’s soft noises after the fact. “Alright… let’s go then…” Atticus murmured. “Eclipse do you want me to return them or?” The Umbreon gave a small noise. Atticus snorted. “Alright.” He returned the both of them for now and grasped Eclipse’s harness thereafter. Once more, they started walking.
The air had a sort of stickness to it now, but there was no rain to be had. Closing the umbrella and folding it into his bag where the eggs once were, Atticus walked a little freer now through the area. Eclipse was a bit better balanced too. They passed a Hitmonlee that was out now standing under a tree without so much as a glance. He wasn’t interested in challenging a Type disadvantaged service Pokemon. Eclipse was thankful for that.
Along the way, they came to a small Pokemon center, and it was there that Atticus made the decision to transfer some of the babies out and obtain still more eggs. Heh, this was what he got for being a breeder, he supposed. Not that I don’t enjoy this…

The rain had started up again by the time that Atticus had finished transferring his newly hatched Pokemon home and obtaining the new eggs. Deciding to take that as a sign to spend some time better packing them, he shifted the Lapras egg down into the bottom of the backpack and then set the smaller Pidgey and Absol eggs around it. It was still heavy, but it was a bit more balanced than it had been. Eclipse received some head pats as well (not because he was jealous of all these new Pokemon or anything, but because it deserved it, obviously), and then they were stepping out just under the shelter of the Center’s roof.
“What do you think, Clipse?” Atticus hummed a bit listening to the tick, tick, tick of the rain on the rooftop. He had an umbrella ready, but if it was too much, it was probably better to sit tight. Eclipse gave a small trill back. He was debating. It didn’t look too bad, but they were also in a nice comfortable position to rest. Hm.
A few uncertain seconds passed and then… slowly over the sounds of the rain, a soft, soothing tune reverberated. “….Sounds… like a Kricketune…” Or maybe just a very skilled Kricketot… but either way…. That was so pleasant. So soft… so nice. “Can you find where it’s coming from, Eclipse?” The Umbreon trilled softly, his own ears twitching to search out the sound. As he found it, Eclipse slowly stepped out into the rain… pulling Atticus with him.
They found the Kricketune playing out the beautiful melody in the rain as if nothing could bother her at all! She didn’t even stop playing on seeing a human and another Pokemon walking up into her range. Instead, she played all the more passionately. “Remarkable…” Atticus hummed softly breathing in the sound. Eclipse trilled as well. It was very, very nice…. Especially up close now.
They stood and listened as the Kricketune continued to play more and more passionately still. As the Kricketune finally broke into the final chord and fell into silence thereafter, Atticus slowly shifted the umbrella and clapped gently. Eclipse trilled again. The Kricketune chirped happily back. “You have quite a bit of talent, thank you for the impromptu concert.” Atticus grinned a bit raising a hand and waiving. The Kricketune called back and waved one arm in response.
Eclipse gave a small series of tones to which the Kricketune responded again. Oh! So that was why he was wearing that strange thing and walking with his trainer the way he was. His sense of hearing must have been really good then! She’d take double the compliment! They had a surprisingly engaging conversation back and forth, one that Atticus could only really listen to rather than comment on. They all sounded friendly, though… and very musical from the Kricketune’s end especially.
And really… he would love to listen to it more. “Would you consider coming with us, Kricketune?” Atticus called. Slowly reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a Luxury ball and held it up. “I’d love to listen to you more.”
As the Kricketune pressed the Pokeball and disappeared inside, Atticus felt a soft smile warm his features. What a good nice Pokemon. Eclipse gave a small trill before looking back at him and smiling a bit, not that he could really see back. “We’ll have to listen more when we get back, huh?” Atty asked. The Umbreon gave a small trill back. That sounded nice. With that, the two headed onwards again down the path. The rain continued on lightly but seemed close to stopping again.
