Will you be a classic trainer? A criminal? A farmer? Choose your destiny on Legends Rising.
Gaki didn't usually come down to Birch- there had been a few conventions planned for next year where she'd have to come but the city was far too far away from her farm to really be worth the journey. Of course- today was a big exception- that being the new grand opening of the Arcanine Arcade- home to a wide variety of retro titles that she could spend years gawking over, if given the chance. The who place had an eighties themed design and though Gaki would never admit it, she adored it completely.
She also basked in the seething looks on some of the guys faces when she utterly and completely thrashed them in one of the beat-em-ups, like they totally weren't prepared for Gaki, who's typically quiet and socially withdrawn, and petite, to start yelling angrily at the screen and smashing buttons like her life depending on it- combos memorized from hours of gameplay back home.
She just wished there was an arcade closer to Fuji... but whatever! She found herself leaving the arcade just as the sun started to set, lime green lollipop, her only prize from the day, unwrapped and being greedily consumed. She'd probably have to take the bus home or something- but that was fine! Hands pushed into her pockets the girl had started down the street, and probably would have wondered off to the nearest bus terminal if she hadn't been distracted by a scream from nearby.
"HELP- OH MY ARCEUS!" The girl paused, hands tightening in her pockets. She knew this dialogue- the beginning of an optional side quest. A grumble left her lips as she turned on her heel, looking around to try figure out where the sound came from- identifying it from a little ways up the street-
A lady was sprinting down the road, mouth agape, loud yells leaving her lips. A large Cufant was slightly ahead of her, stomping down the street with an excited toot leaving him- Gaki froze where she was, eyes wide. Pac-man help her. She couldn't wrangle a Cufant! What sort of side quest was this- would she even get any rewards?
Obviously, her best bet would to be... to cut him off- but- strategically speaking there was nothing she could do but attempt to use her own body to stop him- would this side quest even be worth it- it... nobody else was helping...
"...fine..." Gaki let out a soft breath of air and glanced around, "Don't just stand around, you idiots!" If Gaki was going to be the quest wrangler, than so be it, she needed people to help- honestly, asking everybody to chase the Cufant was a terrible idea, but Gaki was just a simple farmer who sucked big time at strategy games "After the Cufant!"
Another calm day in Greer's world. The redhead meandered through Birch City with Rabbie on their shoulder. The Cherubi honestly appeared to be willing to fall asleep if he had just a bit better platform but with his trainer's shoulders always just slightly drooped, there was no way to truly rest on them like this. The pair also had another with them. Greer had a special pack on their hip where an egg was settled. It was nicely wrapped to give plenty of cushion and keep it comfortably warm.
With a bag of supplies in hand, Greer was on their way back to their hotel room when a commotion erupted. Stopping to observe, they had a honey bun hanging out of their mouth. Seeing the Cufant, they thought it was pretty cute but... the lady was probably its human? And... 'Don't just stand around, you idiots!' Greer blinked, eyes shifting to look to the little girl who had volunteered herself as the leader of a rescue mission of sorts.
Brave kid, they thought and went about eating their pastry treat. Even over that minute or so it took to fully chew the last bite, no one else stepped forward. She was right, they were idiots. Greer shook their head and hurried out to try aiding in the containment of the elephant Pokemon. "Let's get it," they called to Gaki as they made an effort to match with the girl so they could herd the elephant into an area that wasn't as susceptible to destruction where it could be cornered.
Nobody was moving?! Nobody was moving! This was a call to action, damn it! And the Cufant was literally bolting down the street as they spoke- this wasn't a one person mission, especially not somebody who's class didn't align properly with the mission at hand- she would be toast without help, literally dead meat. She began moving now, she couldn't afford to let these strangers get to her- there was a task at hand, and whether she had the stats for it or not, she wasn't going to stand around and watch this go down!
She'd reached for her backpack, to grab out a pokeball and release Leaf, who promptly fell on the sidewalk and stared up at her curiously, an excited squeak leaving him. Was it playtime?! Gaki attempting to direct the tiny turtwig towards where the Cufant was going, but he only blinked at Gaki, and the girl had to scoop him up in her arms, a soft huff leaving her lips. This was fine- this was-
A strangers voice from besides her pulled her out of her thoughts, and Gaki moved one hand to take the lollipop out of her mouth so she could speak, eyes glancing the stranger once over before she nodded, they looked befitting of an agility class- maybe an archer? A brave archer, having stepped forward when nobody else did. "...Thanks..." she mumbled out, before popping the lollipop back in, her Turtwig letting out excited coos and cries all the while-
Okay, okay- the Cufant was center stage, going directly down the road- if she wasn't careful he'd cut off traffic and feel threatened, so strategy wise... "Gameplan." She said, glancing back to the stranger, "...Everybody else are pathetic idiots- willing to stand by amidst this chaos? So we don't have the proper numbers to sneak-attack or surround him."
Gaki took one look around them again, then back to the stranger, this was like a game to her, and she was focused- as if in character. A commander of a two person squadrant! Too bad she was awful at plans. "...Best bet- uh... lure the Cufant into an ally, or a place with a dead end? What do... what do Cufant like?"
A bright grin stuck itself on Greer's face when the thanks came and they listened to Gaki's plan with a hum and a nod. "We could have our Pokemon help. I have a few others," they suggested. The question about what would a Cufant like, though, had the redhead looking mighty uncertain. Then a little lightbulb went off, so to speak, and they said, "My Cherubi here knows Sweet Scent. Maybe that could help?"
Greer was a bit proud of that idea, but still added, "If we want to encourage it, some of my Pokemon have ranged attacks like Mud-Slap and Vine Whip. Not to hit it, of course, but to scare it away from a particular direction and get it going another way." Maybe even a combination of both ideas would work. Get Rabbie to use Sweet Scent, Greer could run into an alley with him and they could leave Rhona and Evander and perhaps another of their party to help herd the elephant. Of course, they'd have to be very careful due to the egg. Thinking about it, they set a hand on the cloth holding it to make sure it was doing all right.
Have their pokemon help? As much as she adored Leaf and Voltra the two boys were definitely more trouble than anything, and would probably work against anything Gaki said. Adjusting her hold on the tiny turtwig in her arms, who squeaked and squirmed, only to nuzzle his head against her chest and get comfy she shrugged, "I... don't believe my pokemon are well suited for a mission as urgent as this one- leaf here only has tackle and withdraw- though..." She paused, "...Voltra knows nuzzle, if it comes down to it and he cooperates, I could definately try that- but only if it's uh... worst case." she never played tactical roles, Sid was always way better at this stuff than her! And this was almost a time trial in a way- think Gaki- think!
"Sweet scent would definitely be perfect- you'd have to get close enough to draw the mon in so it can be noticed first- a loud noise maybe- you said you had... vine whip?" Oh, Gaki was getting puffed- a gamer wasn't very agile, especially not one like Gaki! She moved to grip onto Leaf tighter, who grinned goofily at Greer, "We're coming up to a turn- see the metal bins? If you use vine whip on that it should make a loud enough noise to startle the Cufant and... hopefully, uh... make him change directions!"
Gaki let out an uncertain noise- "and to stop him going the other way... u-uh..." She didn't know what to do, but time was of the essence! She could only hope the Cufant went back toards them and not down the other street of the T-intersection, "Forget that- now!"

Nuzzle would be a good last-ditch effort for sure. Greer gave a nod at that and listened to her idea. They nodded along and released their Chespin. "You ready, Evander?" The little grass-type excitedly nodded his head, observing the situation they were in and gauging what was to be done. Vine Whip on the trash cans. He could do that!
This course of action also had the added benefit of attracting the attention of bystanders, Greer figured. If they weren't already aware of the rampaging Cufant, the noise would draw attention and they would (hopefully) get the heck out of the way. It was a great plan, all around!
As soon as Gaki yelled, Evander was quick to follow instructions, producing a vine and smacking one of the metal bins to cause as loud a noise as possible. Success! The elephant Pokemon was startled and changed directions, away from the sound and thankfully not toward any innocent people. "Awesome! Okay, Evander. You stay with her and try to keep using this method to push the Cufant in a sort of circle. Me and Rabbie will go find a dead end alleyway to stay down and prepare ourselves to use Sweet Scent to calm the biggun down once you get to us. You all right with that?" They looked to Gaki, making sure she wasn't too worried about the plan in any way.
Perfect! Her game plan was going to be utelised! Though she definately wasn't as good at strategy as Sid, she'd played enough games to sorta know how things work- in a T intersection by making one direction less viable it should hopefully get the Cufant down the opposite direction... hopefully... She could only hop from one foot to the other, bounding in nervous energy. She wished she was able to help more than just presenting tactical plans, but there was no time to worry about that!
And thankfully, their plan for the most part was a go! The Cufant went exactly in the direction planned and the NPC- er- player, went straight to a spot that hopefully would be more of aid than a stupid mistake- now they just had to lure the Cufant towards the Alley so it had nowhere to go! Leaf was loving every second of this, and continued to wiggle and squirm excitedly in her arms, letting out a series of soft squeaks that had Gaki fighting back a smile- despite it being the middle of a war-zone-
Game face, Gaki! Get your head in the game! With... uh... Evander's help the Cufant continued forth, forward, and forward... letting out shrill, scared noises, and jumping at every directional vine whip. "They'e coming towards you now, Player 2!" She managed out, as a warning to the stranger helping her,
Greer headed off to settle into an alleyway with their Cherubi ready. They had settled in and waited, listening to the noises of vine whips get closer. To be honest, the noises of the Cufant made them a little worried. They had to do something, though.
Player 2, huh? Greer had a brief chuckle at that and then readied themself and Rabbie for the incoming elephant. The grass-type knew what to do and the moment the rampaging Pokemon came around the corner, there was a cloud of sorts waiting for it. The Sweet Scent assaulted the whole face of the Cufant and Greer made sure they and Rabbie were out of the way as the Pokemon came down the alley.
It slowed, stopping just before the back wall, and shook its head. Greer watched carefully, wondering if that was enough. The Pokemon started to turn, huffing a little at the scent that had overwhelmed it.
Player 2 honestly did a great job, it was almost like they'd done all this before... right in the alley, as planned, and the move was used on the Cuffant- they seemed dazed almost, and Gaki broke into a run, standing at the end of the alley to ensure there was no further escape, but then it hit her- what... did she do now?! Where was the lady, usually the NPCs would be here by now! And the Cuffant was quickly gaining their senses!
Volta! Gaki needed Voltra! Her turtwig coo'd next to her, confused, but Gaki didn't miss a beat, fishing out a pokeball and releasing her plusle, voltra, who let out an excited squeal the moment he saw Gaki, arms wrapping around her leg- ahhh- ahhh crap he was so cute!!! Her resolve almost faltered- at least until she realized the Cuffant was gaining it's sense- right- right-
"Volta!" Voice loud, she pointed at the Cuffant, and the little Plusle let out a confused noise, glancing between the pokemon and his trainer, at least until Gaki followed up with, "Nuzzle!" and he excitedly squee'd, yeah, he can nuzzle the big mon! Volta rushed forward, launching himself at the Cuffant, and...

It was paralyzed, unable to move! Gaki let out a loud cheer, pro gamer strats!!! "Right! Now we just need the lady! Can I trust you to get her, player 2?"
