Gabe had been in Pine Town when he’d received a text from Amell about being in Birch City, and at first it didn’t really click. It would take a few more text messages, and then all of a sudden it did. Oh he was— he was going to the lab to pick up a Pokemon, was he? He couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see this for himself and rather quickly got on Clopper the Gogoat and hauled them both back into the Birch city area.
Now Gabe was sort of just hanging off the main road eyeing around and searching for the very large man that was his ‘roommate’ at the very least. Amell shouldn’t be that hard to find, but then again, Gabe might have had the high ground on top of a Gogoat at the moment. “You see him yet, Clopper?” Gabe murmured. The Gogoat gave a shake of head. Nope, not yet, and this cold was scents all run together. Gabe hummed in response.
Amell Vogel - Figure they can get out onto the route soon enough.
Amell had walked all over Birch looking for his friend, ever since Gabe had said he was in the area. Ada, his new teammate, was flying behind him keeping up. She was confused at what her new human was doing, but loved the exercise, so she didn't complain.
Well, Birch wasn't working in finding Gabe, so Amell sent his small friend a text. [Heading away from Birch City now, hopefully I run into you!] Once that text sent, Amell headed off to Route 1. This is the route he took coming here, but now he actually had a pokemon to help him and didn't have to fend off wild pokemon on his own anymore.
It wasn't long before the massive man spotted a familiar head of hair in the distance. A wide smile crossed Amell's face as he called out with a deep, booming voice, "GABE? GABE IS THAT YOU?" Once he started calling to the head of hair he hoped was his friend, he immediately started to jog up to them. Ana was flying right behind the tall man, interested to see what has her human so excited.
A vibration had Gabe checking his phone then and reading over it. Hm alright… “Let’s head out onto Route 1…” Gabe spoke. “Should be easier to find him that way…” Clopper gave a small call and then turned to walk that direction. Gabe continued to check his phone now and again in the meantime. Soon enough, the city limits were pulling away, though, into the forests and planes beyond.
He didn’t get far when a voice rung loud and clear in his ears (and caused Clopper’s ears to fold against her head). Turning sideways and around to see a familiar face coming towards him, Gabe slowed Clopper’s movements and then raised a small hand to wave to him. “Who else has my complexion and this long flowing purple hair?” he half-heartedly joked. Easing off Clopper for a moment, he closed the distance between himself and Amell and immediately leaped right up to hug around his neck. “Hello there…”
"Who else has your hair and complexion?" Amell mimicked, thinking for a moment. "No one that I know of!" the massive man said joyfully, waiting for his small friend to climb off of his pokemon.
When Gabe came in for a hug, Amell laughed deeply and picked him up with ease and brought him into a tight hug. Instead of letting him go after the hug, Amell casually held Gabe princess style. "I've missed you!" Amell said, smiling at his friend with pride, "So much so that I finally decided to see the world you're always in instead of home."
He was also here to search for his brother, but since the topic didn't call for family talk Amell decided to leave it out.
Ana, his new hawlucha, perched on one of Amell's shoulders and looked down at Gabe curiously. "This is my new friend, Ana. She enjoys wrestling!" While it was a simple introduction, Amell thought it was good enough.
Gabe was not a small person by any means, but he was positively dwarfed by Amell. As he was caught and hugged in return, his feet didn’t even touch the ground— and they would continue to not as Amell lifted him up bridal style. Awe, he missed him— Oh, so much so that that was what prompted him to set out? “Oh really?” was the slight tease back. “About time…”
As the Hawlucha landed and peered at him, Gabe peered up at her. What a strangely fitting Pokemon for Amell. The professor had really done a good of selection if she was one of them. “Hello there,” he winked at her before grinning a bit softer. He made a small gesture over to Clopper who was positively blushing at all of this right then. “Her name’s Clopper, Ana…” he commented. Amell already knew her well enough as one of Gabe’s ride Pokemon, but since the Hawlucha didn’t, might as well reintroduce. “So are you headed out on your journey then?” he asked. “Or just headed home for now?”
Not catching Gabe's teasing, Amell agreed quickly, "Though some trainers were horrified when I had to defend myself from wild pokemon alone, and ended up having some rangers help escort me to get Ana here." Amell shrugged, as if hand to hand combat with wild pokemon were as normal as going to the gym for him.
Ana cawed lightly at the introduction, and was about to jump-tackle Clopper. Unfortunately for her, Amell saw through her plans and grabbed onto her feet mid jump. While Gabe was no longer held princess style, Amell still had a secure hold on him so it wasn't uncomfortable for his small friend. Ana screeched in protest, but quickly calmed down. Once she was quiet, Amell released her legs and she landed on the ground, pouting about her failed plan.
Once Gabe finished introducing Ana and Clopper and Ana was done trying to cause a mess of the situation, Amell carefully set his small friend back down. "It's nice to see you again, Clopper. I'm thankful you're still with Gabe." He said sincerely, kneeling down to the pokemon to offer his hand for petting.
A small laugh came and went from Gabe as Amell recounted actually fighting Pokemon to get to Birch. Only you… Amell was… such a big man. His attention, though, was pulled away as the Hawlucha moved after Clopper. “Clo—“ Ah, Amell got here, good.
Clopper had immediately backed up and walked sideways when the Hawlucha seemed to be coming after her. She was a Pokemon and she did battle, but she was also Gabe’s ride Pokemon and afforded special privileges as a result. One was that she didn’t have to battle when she didn’t want to. And right then she most certainly did not want to.
As he was set down, Gabe took in a slow breath and smiled. Walking over to Clopper, he pat the side of her neck gently. The Gogoat immediately leaned into his hand and smiled again softly. Her soft eyes then raised to Amell, and a small call escaped from her as she leaned into the secondary petting. “I’ve been all up and down the east coast recently,” Gabe mused. “And she’s been very helpful in getting me from one place to the other.” Especially since a certain Charizard was still angry at him for Reasons ™. “But you didn’t answer my question…” he laughed softly.
Amell's excitement over seeing Gabe did cause him to forget to answer his question, "I must have forgotten to say anything from my excitement of seeing you." Amell said honestly and innocently, "I'm told pokemon trainers respect gym badges, so I'll be working on getting them all while out searching for Emmet." He turned to Ana, who was still pouting near his feet. He bent down and patted her gently, "Which is where she comes in. I want to see every corner of this region, and would appreciate your company for my first steps in my plan."
It was a cheesy monologue, but it was all true. Amell's life was usually busy with physical fitness, or work relating to physical fitness. So much so that he rarely ever left Bass City, and showed little interest in such up until recently. But his desire to find his brother mixed in with the desire to see what Gabe has been up to has finally motivated the man enough to leave town.
Searching for Emmet… Ah, right. So that’s your plan… It made sense now. Gabe smiled a little softer at that. “I see,” he chuckled. One of Gabe’s hands moved to clasp Amell’s. “Let’s try down Route 1 first then, shall we?” he grinned playfully winking right after. “I’m betting you can turn all that human trainer training into Pokemon trainer training pretty easily…” There was a subtle playfulness to this statement, but Gabe believed it wholeheartedly. Humans… and Pokemon really weren’t that different.
Turning back to Clopper, Gabe fished out her Pokeball with a free hand. “Why don’t you take a rest for now, Clop? We’ll walk for a while.” Clopper very much appreciated the chance to disappear into red light and be away from the fighty Hawlucha and gave a nod to Gabe at that. In a beam of light, she’d been returned. And with that, Gabe tugged on Amell’s hand off to start walking down the path.
Amell noticed Gabe's smile softening. Years living around him made him at least semi aware of his small friend's expressions. Amell was in the process of pulling out a notepad to lighten his friend's mood again, but was interrupted by sudden hand holding. If Gabe were to have seen the to do list, it compromised of three things: Find Gabe, Find Emmet, Get Badges. And in that order. Amell had prioritized seeing Gabe again over finding his own twin brother, which confused the meathead greatly, but he knew his emotions were true.
"Route 1 sounds like a good plan," Amell agreed simply, fumbling with his pocket to get the notepad out. It was much more difficult with one hand, but there was no way he'd let go of Gabe's hand to make it easier. "I know far more about humans then I do Pokemon, Gabe. It's why I wanted to find you." he said softly, unaware of the light blush crossing his cheeks.
When Gabe returned Clopper to their pokeball, Amell took the chance to brag about his strength and to offer his dear friend support, "If you get tired, I can carry you." He offered Gabe, smiling as he spoke.
A small, forced laugh came and went from Gabe as Amell spoke. “Shall I give you a crash course in Pokemon then?” he teased— but was also rather genuine about all things considered. His eyes flicked to the Hawlucha again, and he found himself already guessing what her power and moveset looked like.
….Pfff. The offer of support, though, had Gabe’s gaze flicking to Amell again. “I’ll take you up on that later,” Gabe hummed back leaning briefly against Amell before stepping back again. Walking along, though, he found a slow fresh breath drawing in and out of him. It was getting colder by the day, and daylight was shrinking faster and faster. This really wasn’t the greatest time of year to be starting one’s Pokemon Journey, but Amell was no ten-year-old child. It was fine; he’d be fine.
“I won’t be around the house for Christmas,” he prompted after a moment. “My mom’s called me over to her place instead….” He half laughed and shrugged his shoulders seemingly indifferent.
