It wasn't as cold as it had been lately which was good considering Wren's pokemon were getting more than a little restless lately. Some of them still stayed home but Wren was more interested in exploring a little more of the region and perhaps getting some training in. Alouette was more than eager to get out, the Galarian Ponyta was a sweetheart and was a big enough pony to ride. Hopping on to the Ponyta, Wren was ready to set out on Route 7 and decided to let out Talon to fly with them for now. MJ was in the form of the skull hair clip as always, and after checking the two eggs they had to make sure they were warm enough, they set out.
Even though the weather was nice enough, the cloud cover still made it fairly cold. Wren was wearing a nice black beanie with white stripes, a black leather jacket that had a skull pin attached to it, There was a chain attached to their black pants that was just for decoration, and a few skulls were painted onto their black shoes as well. They had also opted to wear a skull choker and some studs and a chain in their ears. On first glance, it looked symmetrical enough to pass as Death the Kid perhaps, but that wasn't something Wren was concerned about right then. The jacket happened to be one of the warmest they owned and skulls, along with other 'goth' attire were an aesthetic they appreciated. Besides, it wasn't like anyone was going to judge them for what they were wearing while riding a Ponyta.

Sid had been dozing on the back of Lord the Drampa for a little while after leaving Birch City. They had had a pretty intensive shift at the Pokemon Center in Birch City, and walking wasn’t a good option for them right then. Thankfully Lord already knew the way and floated across the land just fine giving Sid a chance to nod off for a bit now and again.
They were still wearing their soft pink scrubs on from the shift but had a dark blue jacket over their shoulders and a pair of earmuffs on just for good measure. Their long white hair had been pulled back in a braid at the start of the shift and was now a messy one by the end of it. The backpack that carried the rest of their stuff was actually attached to the Drampa right then rather than themselves, so they were free to lean forward and back as they liked.
It was during one of the few times they were kind of awake-dozing that something far off to the right of them caught Sid’s eye. Immediately they sat up causing Lord to look back at them confusedly. “That’s a Death the Kid cosplay isn’t it… Lord head that way.. I wanna talk to them….” The Drampa looked back at his trainer confusedly but did as he was asked and started over there. “Hey! I love your outfit!” Sid called disshelvedly thereafter.

Wren hadn't expected anyone to actually call out to them as they were minding their own business for the most part. Then there was quite a large Drampa headed their way and a long-haired nurse calling out to them? Well, they supposed they were a nurse by the scrubs. Weren't they cold like that? Talon saw the pair before the nurse had called out to them and dove down, settling on Wren's shoulder just in case he was needed. Pulling Alouette to a stop, Wren briefly checked on their eggs before addressing the stranger that called out to them.
"Thanks~," Wren stated, pulling their hat a little lower of their ears. It was cold and their short hair didn't really help much. Mmm, maybe they could put on the extensions next time. That would help at least a little bit. Hmm, introductions were probably the polite next step, weren't they. "I'm Wren, and you are...?" they asked, petting the Rookidee lightly. Alouette whinnied in greeting, eager to see who this new friend was.
Lord came to a stop close enough for Sid to see the person and their Pokemon but just far enough away to give everyone some much needed breathing room. Sid, meanwhile, was sitting up sand stretching a little, trying to get some circulation back into their bones. “Sidney, call me Sid for short,” they answered with a small smile. “It’s been a while since I’ve seen a kinda Death the Kid alter cosplay. I really like what you did with it.” Lord lowered his head to look at the Ponyta before him. He had never seen one so soft and squishy as that. How pretty.

As Wren waited for an introduction, they made note of the rather large Drampa. It was quite cute actually, in his own way. Hmm, they wondered where the stranger, Sid, found it. Surely not the dragon den, that was said to be quite the dangerous area. Oh? It seemed they'd been mistaken for Death the Kid. Still, if Sid believed them to be this 'Death the Kid', Wren supposed they could play the part. Even if their knowledge of that particular character was rather limited. Actually, it was probably best not to insult the character Sid was referring to.
"Why thank you~," Wren mused, smiling a bit more, "Believe it or not, these were just in my closet. I do enjoy the skull aesthetic quite a bit~," they explained, patting Alouette briefly before continuing, "I unfortunately don't know Death the Kid well enough to truly cosplay him, but the aesthetic is fun to replicate~." That was true enough they supposed.
It was only after saying this that Wren felt movement in her bag. Oh? So soon? That was quite interesting indeed. Pulling the blanket wrapped egg out, Wren waited to see what little one would be joining them, only lowering the blanket ever so slightly to allow room for the Nickit that was going to greet them.
Oh, awe. Sid let their features fall a little as Wren explained it was a personal aesthetic rather than a cosplay. They supposed that was fine too, but they were kind of hoping to LARP with Kid a little. Ah well… Not like they were decked out in character!Sidney Ridley costume right then anyways. Even if I do have Lord with me…
“Are you just traveling then?” they asked continuing on the conversation with a little less zeal. They watched as Wren set their bag down but wouldn’t process just what was happening until an egg was produced. “Or hatching an egg through traveling….” they spoke a little quieter.
On any other day, Sid would have had even the slightest bit more interest. After a twelve-hour shift where they’d hatched over twenty eggs though, they couldn’t really be bothered to have the same level of excitement. Instead, they leaned a little on Lord for support. The Drampa, at least, looked a little more intrigued. It wasn’t going to be a human child, but Pokemon children were sort of interesting.

For whatever reason, seeing Sid's face fall made Wren feel... a little bad? Ehh, they didn't know a lot about Death the Kid but perhaps a few quotes wouldn't hurt? Lowering their voice to a more masculine range, they did their best to put on a more serious expression rather than their normal, half smile. "I just meant~," Wren began, taking a more... perhaps threatening tone, "If you pick a fight with a god of death, I can't guarantee your soul's safety~."
Oh, except they didn't have Liz and Patty with them... or any pokemon named anything remotely close. Maybe that wasn't the best line to start off with, hmm. Except Sid's next words about traveling and hatching an egg drew Wren's attention to their eggs and quickly drew out the one that was hatching. A Nicket! How adorable~! "What a cute little one you are~! Mmm, how about Tokoyami~," Wren cooed, quickly cuddling the little hatchling into their own jacket lest they he got cold. The Nicket made a purring sound in response. Apparently he liked the name, that was good~!
Alouette looked back to see what all the fuss was about and whinnied a little in greeting. Tokoyami chirped in response before quickly curling up back into Wren. It seemed this one was a little shy, now wasn't that cute~.

Oh gods… A small giggle escaped from Sid unintentionally. That was such a cute rendition… A hand reached up to cover their smile, but the delight in their eyes was evident enough. “Understandable, Shinigami-kun….” they answered softly. Eheheheh. Lord rolled his eyes a little at Sid’s reaction. He couldn’t quite understand their infatuation with fiction when the world around them was already so fantastical. Ah, whatever. Children were sometimes ungrateful, and that was alright with him.
They both were quite interested in the Nickit that hatched from the egg, though. The choice of name had Sid’s intrigue again, though. “Do you know Kantonian?” they asked quickly in that very language. “Or perhaps you are a fan of Fumikami Tokoyami?”They went on right after not back in Common just yet. Lord tilted his head from one side to the other still not entirely sure what they were saying. He was still getting used to the foreignness.

The small giggle that came from Sid had Wren struggling to keep their composure. They did however grin widely at being called Shinigami-kun... While normally they didn't appreciate honorifics, it was kind of fun in this scenario. Wren might've said something more, but their attention was very much focused on the new Nickit in their arms. Alouette flicked their tail, whinnying at Lord as a sort of laugh. She hadn't seen Wren this happy before, it was pretty nice. Though this 'cosplay' stuff was so foreign to the Ponyta. Did Lord know what it meant?
Of course, the Nickit drew everyone's attention and he didn't really seem to like the attention, instead hiding his head in Wren's jacket. Awww, was he blushing? When Sid suddenly started speaking Kantonian though, Wren started and looked up, eyes wide as if they'd just been slapped. I haven't heard Kantonian since.... A shake of their head snapped them out of their thoughts before a breath was taken. "I don't speak much of it, but I understand it... yes..." Wren explained, their words sounding far more guarded than before, "I am fluent in Kalosian and Common. As for the name, I do appreciate the bird aesthetic and try to name my pokemon accordingly. Alouette for example, means lark~," they continued.
Alouette whinnied at the mention of her name and reached forward to nuzzle Sid a little, "How do you know Kantonian?" Wren asked softly, "My mother would only speak in Kantonian... even though we lived in Kalos," a shrug would be given after that. They didn't like talking about their mother, she was a piece of trash after all.

The look of alarm in Wren’s eyes would be missed by Sid’s excitement. It would only be when Wren said they didn’t speak it much that Sidney calmed again. “Ah…” They understood it a little bit then. Maybe not enough for a full conversation. Oh well…
Hm? Kalosian and Common? That was all around an interesting mix. Red eyes flicked from Wren to Alouette as its name was explained. “Huh….”A bird aesthetic. Not exactly unique but very nice if done well. One hand reached out and absently pet the Ponyta as she started to nuzzle them.
“Ah, I’m from Kanto,” Sid answered softly. Lord was thankful that the conversation had returned to a language he understood again. “Saffron City, if you know any of its geography. I moved rather recently.” And using Common all the time was something of a weight on their chest that they didn’t even realize was there initially. “I take it your mom is from Kanto?” Actually…
Sid blinked a moment as a mental image tried to pull itself to the forefront of their mind. They…. kind of look a litte like— But was that a whole “all Kantonians look alike?” thing that they were unwillingly subscribing to? Sid mentally threw that back into the corner of their mind for later.
Wren noted the way that Sid calmed when they'd made a note that they don't speak Kantonese. That... wasn't exactly true, they knew how to speak it but didn't like to for personal reasons. That was the only language their mother would speak around them after all. They had learned how to speak Kalosian just to spite her. The answer to their question would earn a brief nod in return. It should come as no surprise that there were others that knew Kantonese, it just drug up some pretty bad memories.
Hearing the name of the city that Sid was from didn't elicit much of a reaction. Sure, mother had talked about Kanto often enough, but they had never paid attention to it. It never mattered to Wren, and it was something that enraged their mother so that was an added bonus. "Yes, mother is from Kanto," Wren admitted, not able to quite hide the venom that came out whenever their mother was mentioned. Notably, the sentence was said in Kantonese before Wren switched back to common. Ugh, speaking it just felt wrong"If you're more comfortable speaking Kantonese, that's fine, I know enough."
A sigh left them as they tried to think of a way to get off the subject of their mother. Ah, right... maybe something about the pretend cosplay. Death the Kid right? Yes, that will work. A rather worried expression came to Wren's features as they put a hand to their heart. "...oh no...." Wren stated, their voice shaking with what looked like very real fear, "What If I didn't fold the toilet paper? Something like that could ruin my life forever. I can't be defeated by toilet paper, if I turn my back on this I shouldn't be allowed to live anymore." Perhaps a little dramatic, but Wren had good practice acting dramatic. Would it be enough to pull Sid away from the talk about Kanto and mother though?

“Ah, well, I can speak either,” Sid answered in Common. “Just one of those th—“ The very clear reenactment of Death the Kid stopped Sid in their tracks. All thoughts stopped.
Red eyes widened— and then immediately turned to hearts. Color filled Sid’s features, and then seemed to explode over with warm adoration. “KAWAIII DESU NEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!” Sid squeak-shrieked causing Lord to startle some. Stepping forward and throwing their arms around Wren’s shoulders, they snuggled them roughly for a moment. “Oh my gods that’s such a good improv and use of tone….!!!!!” they spoke easily leaning back and beaming. “Have you done voice acting before? I bet you could do better than any sort of Common dub for him! AAAAAAAA! You just need to find a good Liz and Patty, and you could do so much with just just that alone and—”
Last Edit: Mar 21, 2020 23:59:05 GMT by Sidney Ridley
Ah... was that too much? Wren wondered what exactly that silence meant and then suddenly they were met with a screech-squeak thing that had Alouette backing up briefly in alarm. Wh-?? They didn't have a chance to say anything before the translation registered. Adorable???? A startled squeak was all that left them as Sid so suddenly wrapped their arms around Wren. Stiffening, Wren wasn't exactly sure what to do or what to say. Apparently Sid thought it was good?
Or...better than good given what Sid was gushing about. Something about improv and tone and... voice acting? Well, in a sense, that was true. It was pretty easy to slip into a more masculine voice. Umm, they really needed to watch more of the actual show, didn't they. Still, their face was very red by the time Sid did let go of them. Mouth opened and closed, very much at a loss for words. To say they were startled was putting it mildly.
Liz and Patty? Those were the guns, right? A smug smile appeared on Wren's features. "Please, do you think the God of Death would go anywhere without his trusted weapons?" Right on cue, MJ melted into Wren's arms, giving a happy cry of 'ditto!' before splitting, mimicking the weapons that were deemed Liz and Patty. Now how were they held again? Right... weirdly. "Now this is perfect symmetry~." It was... much easier to continue to play the part rather than answer those questions ahahaha.

“AAAAAAAAAA!” Sid’s hands raised up and clapped either side of their face as they stared, heart eyes at Wren. “Ditto is such a good choice for set design on the fly! AAAAAAA KAWAIIIIIII…..” Their voice had raised an octave, and for a moment they could have been a rabid fangirl on the loose. “Oh! Oh pose like this!” Sid backed up and then made the familiar arm-crossed pinkies up pose. Right after that, they relaxed into a few other different poses before laughing warmly.
“Neh, if only I had a Soul cosplay with me heheheheh….” They bet Gaki would make for a great Maka. Actually, they could probably pull off Mifune relatively well. They’d just need a Black Star to pose and take pictures with. “I can’t believe I haven’t made a cosplay for one of them yet. Guess I was too busy with other things…” They were thinking aloud now and chuckling to themselves.

Wren couldn't help but giggle at Sid's immediate reaction to their little act. MJ was a dear and definitely handy in a pinch, sometimes for far more than 'set design' as Sid put it. Though they did blush at how Sid kept calling them 'kawai'... It wasn't like Wren was trying to be cute. Even if it was more or less an accidental cosplay, Death the Kid wasn't exactly cute?
The request to pose a certain way had Wren blinking, a little confused before they did go into the poses Sid suggested. Their features returned to that smug smile they believed Death the Kid would wear. A few different poses later and they were laughing right along with Sid once again. The mention of a Soul cosplay had Wren smiling lightly again, shrugging a little. After this they were definitely have to watch Soul Eater more closely. This was actually pretty fun~.
"Well, guess you could work on them now? No time like the present~." That wasn't really in character for Death the Kid but Wren didn't really care right then. "You know, Death the Kid is kind of fitting. My full name's actually Wrenova Raven. Raven's can be seen as bad omens so..." A shrug would be given here followed by a light giggle, "Almost like I was meant to play him~."
Post by Sidney Ridley on Mar 28, 2020 13:49:16 GMT
Awe that broke character a bit. Sid gave a soft sigh at that but smiled all the same. “True,” they agreed. They could order in fabric (or check in Ash once they got there) and start working on full designs in the meantime. Did they want to go with regular Soul or Formal Soul? Eh, they guessed that depended on whether Gaki wanted to be Maka with them and what aesthetics she wanted to go for. They could have several options ready, though…. AAAAAA—
Oh. Wrenova Raven? That sort of had such a nice ring to it. Especially since— “Have you heard of Pandora Hearts? There’s a character whose moniker is Raven. I bet you could cosplay him really well too, actually…” They both already had dark wavy hair. It would just be a matter of actual costume and “AAAAA I haven’t even thought about cosplaying Xerxes either, but he’d be so funnnnnn, and Gaki-chan would make such a good Sharon-chan AAAAA…..” Sid laughed softer thereafter.
But since Wren had given their surname….. “My last name is Ridley! For all my spells are also riddles!” They threw out their hand in a dramatic show. “I am an S class mage dual typing in healing and attacking spells!” Lord rolled his eyes. Sid could be so down to earth.... and then so high in the sky. It was almost like there was no in between.
The suggestion to make the costumes for a later date seemed to at least earn a smile. That was good then, especially seeing how excited Sid got over the idea of cosplaying. Arceus, they couldn't remember the last time they'd had this much fun before. But oh? Pandora Hearts? That... sounded vaguely familiar. Another one to add to my list of must watch...or is it read? Whichever, hearing that there was someone with the alias 'Raven' had them very interested. "I think I might've heard of it?" Wren mused, twirling one of the pistols just to have something for their hands to do, "Though it does sound pretty cool! I'll have to look into it."
Hearing the last name Ridley didn't ring any bells specifically, but the follow-up statement thereafter had Wren laughing all over again. How was it so easy to relax around Sid? It was almost like they were already friends. "S class mage huh? Would that make me the master necromancer as the god of Death~?" Wren mused, trying to act at least a little more in character. Sid seemed to like that and well, seeing them laugh brought about a... nice feeling? Wren didn't really want to question it right then and there.
Ahhh Wren had heard of Pandora Hearts too? What a kindred spirit. Truly an otaku before them whether they knew it or not. Ah, they were already feeling a little more energized despite coming off the heels of a rough day. That was the power of anime for you, though.
“Ahhhh, Shinigami-san, you cheat the system a little with such natural talent,” they laughed softly. “For you could be an attacker with zombiessss or a very slow healer using revives…” Reaching forward in a familiar ‘zombie walk’, Sid made a couple of steps before throwing their arms out to the side, twirling, and facing Wren again. “Truly an S rank, almost unfairly so, after I’ve spent so much time leveling up eheheheh…”
Lord sighed softly and nudged Sid. They really needed to at least make some progress onwards now. “Ata ata… etto….” Sid sighed a little in understanding. “Want to walk and talk?” they asked.
Sid's laughter was contagious and Wren quickly found themselves laughing right along with them. They even stiffened and smiled smugly when Sid pointed out their natural talent. Or rather, Death the Kid's natural talent. The fact that they could be classified as a slow healer made them laugh all over again, twirling the twin guns in their hands to show off. "What can I say? You can't beat the god of death~," Wren mused, smirking at the mention of being an S rank (whatever that meant) and even being a higher rank than Sid.
Ah, but it seemed that their pokemon were anxious to start moving once again. Alouette even whinnied a little, stomping her feet to try and get Wren's attention, "MJ dear~," they mused, watching as the Ditto once again transformed into a skull tie this time, fastening themselves perfectly around Wren's neck. While they much preferred the skull clip they normally wore, it was the finishing touches that mattered in a cosplay. That much they knew.
Climbing onto Alouette once again, Wren smirked, "Certainly~," they chimed before a more mischievous glint came to their eyes, "If you think you can keep up with the god of death that is~." With that, they would urge Alouette forward, the Galarian Ponyta didn't need to be asked twice and started to gallop away.
Sid’s smile widened as they watched the Ditto turn into a skull tie. Wren was really good at this, weren’t they? Or should I say Shinigami-san…. Eheheheheh. They hadn’t expected to play today, but it was so funnnn. Still, they supposed it was time to get moving. Climbing back onto Lord again, they were about to start speaking again only to pause— “Oh my…. let’s go, Lord!” They called.
Lord was not the fastest Pokemon around, but he was very much a dragon. Floating, he moved a few paces behind Alouette but still faster than your average human could walk.
