Gabe’s first costume of the night would be inspired by Litwick’s….. Well, Litwick’s entire line if he were being completely honest, but if asked he’d say Chandelure for reference.
The get up was simple enough. For the top, he had a deep purple dress shirt under a long-unfolded black shall and black gloves. For the bottoms, he had some torn black jeans, stretched out and beaten up from who knew what exactly. His shoes were spray painted blue and purple and had a few extra sparkles stuck to them that glistened with adhesive.
His long purple hair had been pulled back into a high ponytail and folded back on itself. Shoved into the band was a small indigo flame piece oddly similar to a certain item from a certain TV show (hey but it wasn’t blue in the TV show did he recolor that? Maybe so). Sparkles had been added to it that made it vaguely look fiery one could guess under certain lighting.
His mask was simple in design and closer to googles than a mask. It covered the top of his face and was black except for the yellow circles around his eyes. Dangling from his ears were black hoops spiraled about more reminiscent of Lampent’s arms than Chandelure’s.
Walking around and surveying the crowd, he hummed a bit to himself. Catching sight of someone of interest, he walked over, pulling the shall from his shoulders and flipping it around to show a deep blue sparkling interior. “I burn to dance with you,” he laughed before flipping it back dark side out again and setting it back on his shoulders. Extending a hand, he offered a smile. “Would you do me the honors?”
Notes: This is a dance thread, people are welcome to join in for a single dance or two (a couple of posts). Once someone has left, Gabe'll seek out another person and / or maybe your character comes to him instead. Please do not post if you see a dance is still ongoing. I will also make note of when a dance has finished and when it's open again in a note similar to this.

A lumpy, sullen scarecrow sat at the side of the room, puffy legs pulled up to her chest so she could hug her knees. Poor Aster, having gotten a mysterious invitation in the mail, had misread the letter enclosed and thought this shindig would be a normal, costumed Halloween party. She had been so excited to be invited to a big Halloween party, especially when she hadn't quite made any friends in the new region after moving and she had definitely seen that masks were required. So she could meet people and socialize without necessarily having to keep up with a continuing friendship, but could keep friends if she wanted to, probably!
However, as she showed her invite at the door and got reluctantly waved in; she did have an invite, after all; she had quickly re-read the letter and realized her mistake. This wasn't some run-of-the-mill spooky mansion budget Halloween party with cute fog machines, warm punch, and music that was either way too loud or way too quiet: This was a Masquerade Ball.
The poor frumpy scarecrow had, luckily, at least brought her purple Murkrow, Iris along for company, in case the party wasn't any good. The opposite was true: this party was amazing! But, with straw poking out of her lumpy burlap arms and legs, beat-up tennis shoes on her feet, fallen leaves in her mussed up hair, poor Aster looked nothing like the fancy, fru-fru crowd at the party, so she wound up sitting in the corner alone, Iris hanging out on her shoulder and occasionally snatching an hors d'oeuvre from a concerned waiter's tray.
Then, suddenly, a gorgeous person wearing a getup to resemble.. Lampent, maybe? seemed to appear before Aster from the purple-ish fog surrounding her. He flipped his shawl around to reveal the sparkling blue backing, claiming to 'burn to dance with' her, then offered a hand and a smile, asking her to dance.
"Uh.. hi. No offense, but uh.. y'sure y' wanna dance with me? I'm kinda.. not dressed for the right occasion here, I was thinkin' of leavin' here in a moment.." The purple Murkrow cawed at the strange man, curious about his shiny outfit. He leaned forward, trying to pluck a sequin from the gorgeous costume.
Gabe’s smile only widened at the uncertainty of the scarecrow before him. She hadn’t seemed to have been having any fun up to that point, so maybe he could change that~ “Of co— oof” Gabe fidgeted pulling back as the purple bird did successfully nab a sequin off of him. He blinked a couple of times before laughingly softly upon realizing. A snort escaped from him before it broke down into a smaller giggle. “Well aren’t you bold.” Not that bold birds didn’t endear him more than he could even put to words.
“Of course I’d love a dance…” Gabe refocused, not even acknowledging the transgression further thereafter. “Your outfit is cute.” He gave a sagely nod. “It’d be my pleasure.” Perhaps his voice had a little lacing of persuasiveness that it really shouldn’t have right then.

Feeling somewhat foggy, not quite as foggy as their surroundings, Aster found herself agreeing to dance and let herself get helped up from the floor. Dazed, she allowed herself to get swept up into dancing, but considering she had no idea how to dance and normally wouldn't have even tried, the poor blonde tripped over herself as well as her dance partner. Iris laughed from Aster's shoulder, having stashed the stolen sequin in her tail feathers so it caught the light here and there.
"Er.. I'm real sorry, I'm not much of a dancer.. Never really tried b'fore, to be honest." She sheepishly looked up at her partner. Gosh, he was sure pretty to look at though. She felt like her insides were all twisted up in her nerves.
Gabe smiled warmly clasping Aster’s hand and leading her out onto the dance floor. A few steps in, he was aware of how uncoordinated she seemed to be. The way she tripped over herself and over him was almost comical— almost. He might have been annoyed, but her apology quelled those feelings.
“It’s fine, don’t worry,” he mused. “I can show you a few steps if you like?... right foot this way, left foot forward left foot that way, right foot back…” He spoke slowly and moved just as slowly despite the overall beat and tone of the music around them right then. “Just focus on the pattern, mkay?” He grinned a little wildly at that. At the end of the day, Gabe enjoyed dancing, and he wouldn’t let himself of all people forget that.

Poor Aster couldn't keep up with even the slower teaching movements. She tried, she really did! but unfortunately she just could't get it down, or was too nervous, or both, and she fell right on her butt. Embarrassed, she got up, face very flushed beneath her plastic Halloween mask, and grabbed Iris out of the air.
"Er.. I'm.. yeah, sorry, I'm gonna head out for some air, I think. Uh.. thanks fer.. dancin' with me, or tryin' to, anyway." The blonde rushed away from the dance floor, bumping a closely dancing pair on her way to the door and mumbling a 'sorry' as she went past. She, unfortunately, headed towards the back of the room, disoriented by embarrassment and fog, and didn't wind up outside, but that was neither here nor there.
Oof— how had she managed to do that? Gabe winced a little in response. “Ah, are you alright?” he started only to be cut off by her quick words. “Ah… alright…” he answered very briefly. Watching her go, Gabe sighed softly to himself. Well, he suppose he had tried and she had tried. Not like everything was meant to be. Searching around for the next dance partner, Gabe hummed a bit walking slowly carefully judging the rest of the crowd. Maybe he’d find someone with a little more fluid step next. Ah well, the night was young, wasn’t it?
Koray was enjoying some of the punch after the dance with his last partner. They hadn't been the most fluid of partners, but it had still been a fun night thus far. Maybe he'd have better luck next time. That was when he saw someone with a costume that caught his eye. Reminds me of Elanor. Well, maybe it was time to make their acquaintance. Too bad he didn't bring her with him this time. Rowan was certainly enjoying himself, spinning and dancing in time to the music. It brought a smile to his face before he finished the punch in his hand.
His outfit was inspired by none other than Dusknoir. Mummy like bandages covered his legs while a long black trench coat with tails that touched the ground covered most of him. An equally long white frilly blouse was the underneath the coat. A neck piece with long spikes, a single red pendant, and eye barrets completed the ensemble. More bandages covered his neck while a black and gold phantom of the opera mask completed the ensemble. His brown hair was dyed black and rather messy all things considered, but it was purposeful and would no doubt get messed up from all the dancing regardless.
A few steps forward and he was facing what he guessed to be a Chandelure and bowed with a flourish. "Pardon me, but I couldn't help but notice you don't have a partner~," Koray mused, standing upright once more and offering a hand, "Would you care to dance with me?"
From the corner of his eye, Gabe caught sight of a mummy moving towards him (Actually, no, he was pretty sure that was sort of a Dusknoir aesthetic with the neck piece and mask, but anyways). He’d been about to say something but was immediately cut off by the bow and conversation starter of the other instead. A smirk curled on Gabe’s lips that quickly warmed into a much gentler smile. “My, my, so cordial,” he chuckled. “Of course, I’ll have a dance.”
Clasping the outstretched hand, Gabe let himself be led back to the dance floor. The notes in the air had a good beat, and Gabe fell quickly in time with a pattern. He had no problem giving up the dominant step here, no perhaps he enjoyed it even. “You’re rather lithe on your feet…” he assessed smoothly.
Koray chuckled lightly at the initial comment and hummed in response before smiling as the Chandelure accepted the offer after all. Taking the hand, it was a quick couple steps before they reached the dance floor and fell into an easy step. The song was quick, upbeat, and it was easy to fall into step, and he found himself having fun. For once, he was able to just, dance, without trying to match his skill level with his partner's. This was what he loved to do, enjoyed doing, and it was nice to have a partner that seemed to be on the same wavelength as him.
The Chandelure spoke up, complimenting him on his step. As if to prove this was true, Koray spun the Chandelure with ease, pulling them back in thereafter. "I could say the same about you~. You're the first partner I've had tonight that I haven't had to teach a few simple moves to. It's refreshing, I must say."
A sudden spin, was it? Gabe let himself fall back briefly into it before being pulled in again just as quickly. How lovely. As the conversation continued, Gabe grinned a little. This was very much someone who knew what he was doing, and that made it all the more fun. “Do you dance for recreation or occupation?” Gabe asked playfully enough. He’d guess the prior as that was the more likely case, but one never knew— especially amongst a group shrouded in mystery of the evening. “I’d dance for occupation if it pad me well enough…” he laughed softly right after.
The stranger was a natural it seemed, with the way they seemed to fall into step just as quickly. It was nice, and made it that much more fun when he realized that they both had the same love for dancing. "Recreation," Koray explained simply, laughing softly when he heard the follow up comment, "If only I would be so lucky~," he continued, falling into an easy pace thereafter. It was better for conversation this way.
"I'm a chef by occupation. But I dance every chance I can. There are times I swear it's like I'm flying, like the world falls away and all that matters is what's right in front of you," Koray explained, "Maybe that's a bit too romantic, but there's nothing quite like it~." Another step, another twirl, and he was back into that same easy pace again. What a difference a like-minded partner made.
A soft chuckle escaped from Gabe. Too bad. Maybe he’d dance with a professional one of these days. Maybe that very night depending on his luck. He could settle for someone reasonable on their feet for now. A chef by occupation though… “How interesting,” Gabe mused softly. He wanted to linger just a little longer on what a chef was doing dancing so well, but well the dancing centered itself as the topic again.
A giggle escaped from him at the Dusknoir’s follow up comments. “Perhaps a bit too romantic,” he answered back holding that gaze and flashing a smile. “For a first date anyways.” He twirled and leaned backwards into a dip. “You’re cute, though. You can get away with it easily.” he teased as he was righted up again.
Chandelure's comment had Koray humming briefly. Yes, perhaps it was interesting to hear of a chef that wanted to dance. People were allowed to have their own hobbies however, and his just happened to be dance. Of course the giggle and follow up comment had a blush appearing on Koray's features. He... hadn't been expecting something like that. Then again, dancing could be considered intimate and heh, best not dwell on that right then. "Perhaps~," Koray conceded, smiling just as brightly back in an attempt to cover his flustered state, "Ah, but my charming Chandelure, you're quite dazzling yourself~." Anything to get the attention off him right then was welcome. A little harmless flirting was fine, this was fine.
The music mercifully changed into something more upbeat and Koray fluidly moved into a faster rhythm, a faster pace, a more complicated step. The less thinking he did, the better. Twirling the Chandelure again, he stepped into more of a tango, pulling them closer and moving fluidly once more.
A soft puff of air escaped from Gabe. He’d flustered the Dusknoir, and while he couldn’t so readily see it in his face, he could see it in his form. The redirected earned a small “Oh I know…” back in simple confidence, but that was it for the moment.
Gabe had been ready to let go once the song had slowed to an end, step back, thank for the dance, and move on to another person, but as he found himself pulled into yet another step, he allowed it. This one was good enough to warrant another dance, he supposed— though those chosen steps were… heh. He leaned in, fluidly following those steps, occasionally pressing against the Dusknoir before pulling away again in that familiar motion. “My my, your dance choice reflects your intentions, dear…” he teased softly.
The Chandelure's confidence to his statement wasn't what Koray had expected either. He smiled a little wider, twirling them before moving into the next step. Perhaps he should have stopped at just the one, but what could he say? Koray was enjoying dancing with Chandelure, even with their teasing comments. He could feel them lean in, moving fluidly with him as they danced together. It was a dance he didn't have to think about, but perhaps it was his way of teasing right back. Words weren't exactly his strong suit, not with dance as an outlet.
The tease brought another blush to Koray's features. He hadn't intended this to be a flirting game but well, it was kind of fun he supposed. "Mmm, and what are my intentions, darling Chandelure~?" Koray replied just as softly, dipping the other easily, "Perhaps I've simply become hypnotized by your flames~," surely they would recognize the reference to what Chandelure were wont to do. Moving back into step, Koray smiled a bit more, winking at his partner (though it was questionable whether it could be seen under the mask). He was perhaps having a little too much fun with this dance.
A dry snort escaped from Gabe. How flirty. How fun. He wouldn’t answer those words immediately, though, instead focusing on the motions that followed them. He didn’t mind being dipped, but on the off chance he was dropped, he wanted to be ready for that.
“Hmmmm well…” Gabe hummed a little after the thought. “I couldn’t blame you for that now could I.” Gabe laughed a little after that. “I am rather hot.” Thrusting a leg out briefly, he leaned back just as briefly before righting himself again. He was starting to tire a little, though, and perhaps it he would take a break after this song before getting going again. How fun, though…
Koray smirked when it seemed his words were welcomed. That was good, this was fun. The words that followed had Koray chuckling this time. He would move fluidly, keeping in step until the Chandelure thrust a leg out and adjusted to make sure they didn't fall. This was a lot of fun and he didn't want to ruin the moment by letting his partner fall. That would be embarrassing and shameful to say the least of things.
"No~, I suppose you couldn't~," Koray mused back, "But I wouldn't mind being burned by those flames~." The song crescendoed and Koray finished with a spin, dipping his partner one last time before pulling them upright again. It was only now that he realized how much that dance had tired him.
Bringing Chandelure's hand to his lips, Koray bowed, "Thank you for the dance, it was quite fun," he mused, holding out a card to the Chandelure that had his number on it, "Apologies if this is breaking anonymity, but perhaps we can meet again sometime."
Oh? Heh… A devilish look pulled across Gabe’s features for only a moment as those words echoed in the air. He didn’t really mean that, and Gabe knew that. Or rather, he didn’t know what he was signing up for, so that was just unfair but still. Instead, Gabe fell silent, focusing on the motion for a moment more.
Once it was over, it seemed both had the same idea. Gabe smirked taking the number and slipping it away. “Maybe so,” he mused playfully enough. That had been rather fun after all. Now then, who next to ask to dance? Fluidly enough, Gabe started walking around again his eyes alight with a free air.
Loud- everything was so loud. Every second Adelaide spent by that food table beats of regret coarsed through her system, reminding her how awful of an idea it was to think she'd be able to survive an event like this- alone- who had she been kidding? Everywhere she looked people were getting all close and personal, or doing weird dances- people with costumes way better than hers- and every so often she swore she saw somebody staring at her and her excuse for a costume- they were judging her, weren't they? The people with their pretty, braided hair, their sparkling outfits... Mew save her soul.
What if they'd figured out who she was just from a look?! Had her costume not been a good enough disguise? Had word got out Diamonde Gladstone's pathetic excuse of a sister was roaming Arciel, at this very ball, in this very spot?! She should just go- yeah- she should just push through all the people now and go to the exit, call it a day of doing nothing and save herself the embarrassment- she should just... no- no- then... people would... look at her- she'd be the girl who's leaving early, the girl who's not enjoying herself- the spoilsport- what if they posted in in social media coverage about the event?! What if her career was ruined before it even started?!
She shouldn't have listened to Tawny- she shouldn't have even come. This wasn't a confidence booster, everywhere she looked there was a new fear, a new thing to worry about- something that caused her to shake and her mind to reel- the very thought of what people would think of her kept her glued to the spot by the food table, standing, unmoving. It was a safe place to stand- while she tried to mull over her choices- it was a place nobody would second-guess her in- where they wouldn't notice if she was shaking.
Did her outfit look over the top? Was it weird to see a girl in a tux-dress?! Was she weird?! Tawny had even told her as such over the phone like a week ago to wear this, it's not like she had much of a choice- and now she was regretting everything further, her hands moving to clutch at her face as she closed her eyes- willing herself to stop thinking!
She looked fine- she looked fine, didn't she? Her costume was inspired by Empoleon, a huge golden mask that turned into a crown, a dress that began as a tuxedo but spiralled into a blue and gold accented ballgown, golden heels... No. No, she looked a mess- her costume totally looked like she just picked random things off the street and threw them on herself- she was being judged- she was being judged-
Should she leave, should she stay? Adelaide didn't know, and she was sure her shaking was worse, she had to move soon- move- move! In a split second decision she shifted very, very slightly to face the dancefloor, hands moving to clasp behind her back-
