Gabe found himself admiring the Plum City training grounds once he got in them. They were a little nicer than the ones in Bass and much nicer than the ones in Birch. I geuss I shouldn’t be surprised given it’s the capital… But still. There was so much space both indoors and outdoors to flight train as compared to the flight locations outdoors in Birch. But he digressed for now. Admiring only become useful after it turned into something else.
Walking out onto the field with a Pokeball in hand, he found himself glancing around for Senara. They were flight training some Pokemon today, and while he was sure Skye was going to have no trouble at all, he couldn’t wait to see how badly this Frosmoth that Senara had deemed flightworthy was going to go. Was he being a little mean? Probably. But he’d seen that creature and had one of his own now. They barely looked fit to fly on their own let alone with a rider— even if hers was sufficiently big. It’s going to be great and terrible…. Or so he’d already decided.
Looking around for that signature pink hair, he tapped his foot a little impatiently and thumbed over the Pokeball debating whether or not to release the Salamence then and there. Nah, heh, not yet. He hadn’t said exactly what Pokemon he was going to flight train yet. For all she knew it could be Lizbeth heh.
Flight training Quest: To start out, write at least 200 words in your thread, then use [ proll ] (no spaces). This is how many points you've scored so far; you are aiming for 100 total. Assuming you don't roll 100 on the first go, write 200 more words. (You can cheese this just a little if you went a bit over before, such as 220 the first time and 180 the second. Each section must be a minimum of 150 though, regardless of how far over your previous sections went.) Use proll again, and repeat this until you have either reached 1,000 words or your rolls add up to 100 or more.Once you have reached either goal, you succeed!
Not bothering to roll till flight actually starts.
Crap crap crap why of all days had she gotten lost in Plum?? They'd been here for a fair bit but the one time she had actual plans she thought "hey I know where I'm going" and went in the entire wrong direction. Great. Awesome. Fuck. He was going to laugh.
Senara made it up the steps to the training ground two at a time--a feat for one as short as herself, let me tell you--and went straight past reception with as rapid a check-in as she could manage, to make it out to the flight training field. She spotted Gabe quickly enough. Bright purple hair and dark skin stood out even without the snow-gray day. She didn't bother smothering the grin that seeing him brought out. Which was a good thing, right? Not smothering the idea of "friendship" every time it popped up was some sort of progress, wasn't it? She wanted to think so. Ooh, she could also show off the custom glass eye she'd commissioned--she didn't have it yet, but she had pictures of the beta design on her phone. He was going to think it was ridiculous but it would be useful!
The better to not get migraines with, my dear.
"Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaabby~" She sing-song'd her way over, waving an arm high above her head. She was back into her white turtle-neck and poofy pink jacket, but now with a bright pink frilled skirt and leggings underneath it. She looked more ready for a trip to the mall to get Pika Berry frozen yogurt than to do flight training but, hey, whatever.
Oh. And she'd also decided to bleach her hair yesterday, a process that she's wisely decided would have taken too long to do herself so she'd gotten it done professionally.
Once again she'd returned to her natural--or as close as she could get it--blonde color.
Pfffff. As if those footsteps weren’t a clue, the call of his nickname was a dead ringer. Gabe had turned around to face Senara— only to stop and stare at the bright bleach blonde color of her hair. What the— Height. Profile. Face. Eye. No this was definitely Senara, but she looked closer to a Barbie doll than she ever had before. He was kind of aware that one of the tones of her previous hair color (or both) had to be dyed, but he’d never realized up until that point how much he had associated her with pink till just then.
Ah well. Heh, whatever.
“Not too long,” Gabe answered shifting his weight from one foot to the other and twirling the Pokeball between his fingers. “Hope you didn’t keep me waiting to make a pallet swap fashion statement, though.” He smirked a little after. “Do you have a saddle for your Bug or are you going to try flying without?” He had decidedly left behind the saddles he had. Skye was a bit too wide for most, and sitting between wing shoulders and arm shoulders was pretty secure on other Pokemon. He wasn’t worried. Too worried.
"Pallet swap? Hah, no, I did this yesterday night. My roots were showing so I decided 'fuck it'," Senara brushed a long ponytail back over her shoulder, "And it'll be a lot harder to find one blonde woman on security cameras than one pink-haired woman. It's practical!" She wasn't going to admit she got lost to his face. He'll laugh at me if he finds out I went all the way to-- Her thoughts went short and she pouted her lower lip out a bit. Right. Telepath. Still getting used to that. "So does it look good on me, or not?"
She unzipped one of the pockets of her coat, drew out a white rhinestone covered pokeball, and zipped it back tight. "I'm going to try without first, but I do have a saddle ordered. It just hasn't gotten here yet." Senara tossed the ball up into the air. In a flash of sharp white light a very large, very fluffy looking creature suddenly took shape, and once the brilliance cleared Neigeux the Frosmoth was left behind, hovering a few feet off the ground as his large snowflake-pattered wings beat slowly up and down. He glanced at Gabe, waved one hilariously fluffy looking "paw", and then wrapped it back around his torso as Frosmoths did with their limbs when in flight. Senara walked up to hug him.
"Regardez mon grand garçon de bogue~ Vous êtes si doux!" She nuzzled into the soft, cool fur around Neigeux's neck. He chewed on her hair a little, but nuzzled her back all the same. She giggled, smile bright and shining with pink gloss, and drew herself back a bit to look up in his large eyes. He really was gorgeous and elegant, especially compared to the silly (but adorable) Snom he'd been. He wasn't much smarter though.
"Êtes-vous prêt à essayer de voler?"
She looked over her shoulder at Gabe. "You never said who you're training today! Did Liz evolve already?" Her expression went into one of mildly amused panic. "...is there even enough space for her in this place? Should Neigeux act as fire extinguisher?"
Gabe Alim WC: 370 Waiting to roll when we're flyin'~
Gabe’s brow quirked as Senara spoke. She’d just up and canceled her hair out of nowhere? Heh, he guessed why not. Senara’s thoughts would not break against the mental barrier Gabe had started to put up around himself. Instead, he assumed she was pouting about his choice of wording, and a vicious smile pulled across his features right after. Yellow eyes raised and lowered critically. “You look like an escaped valley girl,” he answered with a small snicker. “….But it is rather pretty.” A more sincere compliment came and went before Gabe switched gears.
He tried and failed to conceal the look of chaotic interest that pulled across his face at the mention of no saddle. Oh, this was just getting worse and worse, and he was so very much here for it. As the Frosmoth was released, though, Gabe managed to smile a little more coolly. A hand raised and waved— only to reach up and cover his mouth as he fought back a laugh. Why was she so affectionate towards a fluffy bugsicle? They were so weak against Fire Types. He still didn’t understand it. But whatever.
As Senara looked back at him, Gabe shook his head a little and grinned a bit. “I don’t think you’ve actually met this one,” he answered. A hand flicked, and a Pokeball finally went sky high. In a flash, Skye the Salamence was on the soft astroturf next to Gabe. A deep bellow escaped from him as his Intimidate ability innately switched on, and if he hadn’t been at least kind of used to it by that point, Gabe would have found every hair on his skin standing on end. “….Nice to see you too,” was all he’d answer back with. The Salamence already knew why he was there and stretched both legs and wings in unison. “He’s only recently evolved to stretch his wings, so I hadn’t gotten around to flight training him.”
Senara's eye narrowed slowly at Gabe as he looked her over, ready to give him some choice Kalosian pop ballads in his head for the next hour if he insulted her, but after one snide comment he turned it around. Her pout turned instantly into a bright smile. "You mean it? I mean--of course it is," Senara fluffed out her two poofy pigtails with her lightly calloused fingers, "It's as close to my natural color as I can remember. I have so much conditioner and moisturizer in it though...all that beach made it feel like barbed wire." Not that the years of dyeing it had been good for her hair, either, but bleach was worse.
Neigeux, understanding--if nothing else--what this exercise was supposed to be, lowered himself until he was resting on the ground. He looked a little silly as he didn't have any actual legs to be sitting on, and just kinda was laying there like a lump, wings flat to the ground as well. Like an art-deco fur rug, Senara thought, before Gabe brought out his--
"Oh yaaaaaaaaaay, another lizard," Senara said dryly as the Salamence took shape. She had to take pause, though, before she spoke again. Two thoughts waged war in her head. The first was "I thought Salamences were bigger? Am I remembering wrong?" and the second was "Hahahahahhaahahhaha why is my skin crawling right now???". Senara swallowed and shook her head to look down at Neigeux. His usually dense, happy demeanor was still there, it was just...under a layer of trembling furry fear. Senara wrapped her arms around his head from behind. "Ça va, petit flocon de neige, ça ne va pas te faire de mal." She mumbled, trying to calm down her frightened Frosmoth.
If he was startled when they tried to get into the air, it would go, uh, badly.
Still, her current position wasn't too bad. Senara kept her arms around Neigeux's head-slash-shoulders and laid herself down against the fur between his wing-joints. Yeah, this felt okay. She didn't really have a place to rest her knees since his wings went down across the whole of his torso, but the saddle would help with that. For now, it would do.
"Do you think he's going to get a complex from Lisbeth?" She giggled, patting Neigeux gently on the floofy neck. "Mine's still cuter. Allez, flocon de neige, mettons vos ailes en mouvement?" Neigeux nodded. Slowly his wide, beautifully patterned wings began to beat, and as they gathered enough momentum his body started floating up as well--

--and Senara slid right off the back of him before they were even a full five feet up.
"Owwww...!" She hissed, rubbing her tailbone where she'd landed, "Fuck, bad start!"
Gabe snorted. “How much conditioner do you think I go through to keep this in line?” he asked pulling one long strand of purple hair up for inspection. “I should probably cut it.” He wanted to cut it. But of course, he had no time to do so. Of course.
Skye soon enough had Gabe’s attention— as did Senara’s mental commentary regarding him. Yellow eyes remained fixed on the Salamence even as ears listened to Senara’s words. ‘Don’t give me a hard time… alright?’ Gabe tried to push these thoughts up against Skye’s mind as hard as he could. The Salamence’s red eyes squinted, and a weirdly smug expression came to the Salamence’s features. Great. Gabe forced a smirk.
As Senara climbed on Neiguex, Gabe walkd around Skye and set both hands on the Salamence’s shoulders. The beast didn’t bother leaning down and instead forced his trainer to pull himself up and over. Sitting in the space between his neck and his wings, Gabe pat Skye once. The question had Gabe glancing sideways and making a face. “We’ll see,” he decided on. “Come on then…” He pat the Salamence again. The latter swished his tail about and made some low tones. They weren’t moving. Gabe rolled his eyes and glanced at Senara— just in time to watch her fall flat on her ass. A sharp half-laugh escaped from him. Well at least they weren’t that.
“C’moooon….Up.” The Salamance made a sudden leap right up into the air, and Gabe immediately regretted this order. Wings spread out and beat, shaking the ground below as they rocketed both Skye and Gabe upwards. “FUCK SLOW DOWN….” The Salamence immediately stopped and started hovering high above the ground. Gabe flopped a little forward and muttered something.

Neigeux didn't look very apologetic as he dropped back down to his trainer's side, but then again facial expressions weren't the strong suit of a creature with, well, a bug face. Senara grumbled as she stood back up and repositioned herself on his back. If she dug her knees a little more inward and locked her hands to her wrists instead of to his fur, maybe she'd have better luck holding on. Alright, this felt more secure. And Gabe was already up in the air! Very up in the air. Senara snickered as he did a faceplant into his Salamence's neck. "Serves you right for laughing at me!" She laughed before speaking to her Frosmoth. "Tu as bien fait, c'est moi qui ai fait une erreur. Allez-y lentement."
His wings began to beat, and slowly his body moved up from the floor. Senara felt her weight shifting, slipping, but her arms held around his fluffy neck and kept her from falling off this time! They were more "hovering" than "flying" but this was off to a much better start. She peered down over his shoulder. They were maybe three feet off the ground? They could go higher than that. "Montez un peu plus, d'accord? Pas aussi haut qu'ils le sont ma--"

"--AIS?!" Senara squeaked as Neigeux suddenly beat his wings hard, and shot them both up into the air. She clung onto him for dear life, now at a height where falling could do much worse than bruising the base of her spine. She did NOT need a broken ankle, no sir. But they did it! They were up in the air and flying! Neigeux was doing happy little circles at Skye's side, making little trilling noises of excitement. They were flying!
Gabe Alim WC: 313 Wow, worse than before. But at least it's progress! 72/100
Skye was snickering in a low hissy voice that annoyed Gabe more than he actually knew what to do with. Muttering something softly under his breath, Gabe slowly sat back again and looked out and then down to Senara. “At least I’m in the air!” he called loudly back down. Skye looked over his shoulder and grinned a Salamence grin. Gabe frowned. “Don’t do anything stupid.”
The Salamence’s thoughts bore hard up against his mind right after. <I could drop you. I could drop you right out of the sky.>
Gabe grit his teeth and then forced a grin. “But that wouldn’t be very nice.” The Salamence hiss-laughed at that, and Gabe was very briefly expecting to be flipped upside down and sent falling to his death, this time not of his own accord. Lucky for Gabe, Skye was just sassy, not murderous. They both looked down as a squeaky yelp hit the air, and both smirked a little as Senara came rocketing up on the big Bug.
“You’re doing better than expected,” Gabe smirked a little toothily at Senara. Gripping into Skye, Gabe leaned forward. The Salamence made a quick loop around. “Try and keep up!” Was the yelled call.

Between holding onto Neigeux's fur and her wrists for dear life--and Gabe's smarmy little comments at their efforts--Senara had what one may call a resting bitch face plastered on her, visible eye narrowed and glaring little daggers at the back of Gabe's stupid purple head as he took off through the air. Because racing a Salamence was possible when you were a Frosmoth. Hmph. Please, he didn't need to be fast, just able. Right?
...well, maybe it wouldn't hurt to see how fast her little bug could go.
"Continuez, essayons de suivre leur rythme~" Senara spoke into Neigeux's antenna, and he made another trilling sound and swooshed after Gabe and Skye. Little crystals of ice trailed in the air behind them as they went, falling like snow onto the ground below and occasionally catching on Senara's eyelashes and hair. It made her shiver and squeak, but she was too excited to be bothered by it. Neigeux was not the fastest flying Pokemon in the world, but he was still perfectly good at what he was doing, and they managed to keep a decent pace behind their "training partners" all the while.
"To be fair--" she shouted over the sound of wind in her ears, "--this is my first time steering and I'm still keeping up with you! So suce-le, joli garçon!"

Gabe Alim WC: 239 100/100 Neigeux can now fly! Yay!!
A rush of air rang in Gabe’s ears as Skye’s wings propelled them both forwards. Had he not been used to riding various Flying Pokemon up to that point, he was sure he would have been screaming. The way his hair whipped. The way his lips and eyes felt pulled back by it all. It would have been more than disorienting if this had been his first experience with flight. Lucky for Gabe, that was not the case.
As Senara and her Frosmoth managed to keep up for a while, though, Gabe found himself glancing sideways. Still keeping up with— Gabe snorted. ‘Think she just insulted us….’He forced the thoughts forward along to the Salamence.
The latter hissed and suddenly took into a breakneck flight speed. Gabe had only a second to tense and cling onto the Dragon as they both went dashing off sideways along the course whipping in and out of various raised loops and polls. Skye would not take the transgression, whatever it may have been, lightly. As he became more and more sure he wasn’t going to fall off, however, Gabe started laughing and hollering all the while. “YEAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!”
