Will you be a classic trainer? A criminal? A farmer? Choose your destiny on Legends Rising.
To participate in the Swarm, first post in this thread looking for a Pokemon. A mod will tag you and reply with stats for one Pokemon you find, including color and possibly even evolution depending on the species. Reply again encountering and trying to capture the Pokemon. Once you succeed, do not post in the thread again.
You may only find one per character, no rerolls. This is to prevent spamming to find special Pokemon. If for any IC reason you need to encounter another, use the same stats originally rolled and pretend it's a different individual.
Pokemon in Swarms have a 20% chance of being a special coloration!
Pokemon in swarms have a +20% capture rate with any ball, and will never flee.
This swarm closes at 11:59pm site time on May 31. After that, no new encounters will be spawned. However, anyone who has an ongoing encounter that isn't yet finished has until 11:59pm on the 15th of the following month to finish trying to catch their encounter. After that, the thread will be locked and archived.
Josh's return trip from the ruins wasn't nearly as harrowing as his trip there, there being far fewer ground-type Pokémon harassing him. He had amassed quite the haul while up there, though much of it was in rare Pokémon rather than ancient treasure with monetary value. The mountain trail looked a lot different after dawn rather than before dusk - quite a bit brighter, to say the least.
Twilight shook her head as Aslan ran circles around the trotting Absol that was carrying Josh down the mountain trail. With the next several weeks of the racing season visiting western and southern cities in Arciel, he would not be able to hunt for his prized bird for quite some time, meaning he would be sitting out of any aerial races for possibly the entire season.
As Josh, Aslan, and Twilight rounded the corner leading south to Ash City, he heard a loud, almost metallic screech echoing from farther down the mountain, causing him to perk up and brace himself less upon the tough Egg he and the Absol were caring for. Could it be...?

Josh's head slowly tilted upward, and it was indeed the Skarmory he was searching for...except it appeared none too happy to see him. The steel-type let out another metallic screech before entering a steep dive that looked more like a fall, straight in the path of Josh and both his Pokémon. Twilight dove out of the way without any sort of warning. Josh was leaning the other way, expecting Twilight to dive the complete opposite direction she did.
The sudden momentum shift unseated Josh, sending him rolling across the trail and away from his two Pokémon. It may have just saved him from serious injury - instead of raking the Absol and Litleo with its talons, the fearsome wild flew over the two with awe-inspiring speed. The avian's speed was so great that its wings started producing a tinny sound, the red feather-blades vibrating from compressing the air between them into blades of wind that cut more cleanly than the sharpest of claws.
Josh was far enough away that the only lasting damage would be to his clothes. He was a bit upset that one of his convention attendee shirts had been sliced up in multiple spots, leaving it beyond repair, but that was the least of his concerns. Twilight and Aslan, on the other hand, weren't so lucky. The cutting blades of air left them in bad shape. Wait, the Egg! Twilight wasn't carrying it anymore, and he couldn't see it from where he was at!
As much as he had paid for that Egg, it wouldn't do Josh any good if he didn't make it back to Ash City. He had an accident on this road previously--another one might lead to his trainer's license being suspended...which would effectively put Josh out for the season. Just as the Skarmory looked ready to take to the high skies for another round of Air Cutter, the desperate trainer threw his last remaining Great Ball at the so-called Metal Menace, his heart pounding...

Riku suddenly cried out at him. Eh? Eh? What ha--- and that's when he noticed several shadows on the ground... Agate looked toward the sky, where he sensed... something was wrong. Red, green... he only can see blur when it's not supposed to be like this. Riku the Riolu immediately assumed his fighting stance in front of him. Eh? What's going on? Is it something bad? Agate squinted once more... and... oh dear. Oooh dear... there are lots of Pokemon up there! What... what are those?
A screech soon followed, making him reflexively covers his ears. It feels like metal grinding against another. Another followed, then another... It's at this time that he noticed there's something quite different about the sky... It's... brighter. Not because whatever this strange vision problem he's getting. Before long, he managed to find out what they are... Skarmories. Not just the normal ones and shiny ones either. There are some strangely colored ones mixed in!
"...Riku..."
Riku looked back at him, as if asking if he want to catch one for the team. "...Yeah, let's do it shall we?"
The Riolu grinned and offered a fistbump, which Agate returned. Time to get themselves some steel bird!
What descended was sadly not as big as the rest, but even so... it was still a big bird all thing considered. This one...Wait wait, this one doesn't sounds like it's the type that would fight! If anything, it made an idle squawk as if it doesn't have care in the world. Is this... is this one perhaps an infant or something? But even so, there's something that tells Agate that it's stronger than Riku. Riku meanwhile just let out another cry, as if challenging the Skarmory. It squawked again, as idly as before, as if saying it doesn't mind the slightest. It hovers idly... come to think of it, how does Skarmory moves anyway? It can moves its wings and strands, but... how does it even stay aerodynamic at all? But that's not important. He noted that Riku has began his charge. The Riolu used quick attack as an opening attack, gauging their level difference. Obviously, it does not work as effectively, considering it's part steel type.
The Skarmory.... did not even attack? In fact, it just crows at the two of them as if asking if that's all they have, and she could just stay above the ground like that. Only when Riku launched a Sky Uppercut does it began to feel something. It let out a squawk of praise, but immediately zoomed in with a peck! OH SH-! That's super effective! Riku launched far behind Agate. He coughed as the attack weakened him.
The Skarmory meanwhile squawked again, as if asking if they have enough.
"Riku, are you alright?"
Riku, albeit wobbly, raised a hand up to confirm. He returned back to his stance This time, he used another Sky Uppercut! It managed to hit the Skarmory squarely (or perhaps, the Skarmory does not even plan to dodge)! However, compared to the attack from before... they're definitely losing here. The Skarmory looked at Agate and Riku... and suddenly landed. It squawked at them.
"...What is it planning?" Agate muttered, bewildered.
Riku shook his head as if not understanding either. He immediately struck for the third time with a Sky Uppercut! Following that, Agate decided that perhaps to bet it on a Pokeball! If this one fail, should he just run perhaps?
The metallic cries of the birds gliding overhead almost echoed in Atticus’s ears as he stood up under them just listening to them. Combined with the subtle heartbeat of some eggs in his backpack not quite ready to hatch but slowly, steadily getting there, it was actually rather pleasant.
Next to Atticus, Topaz the Lycanroc stood quiet and ready for anything her trainer might need. Between her front paws, Apollo the newly hatched Eeevee sat watching. A little further forward, however, Sherona hovered over the ground waiting for one to dive down. She was so ready, so ready to Flame Charge one into next week. And then one finally took the bait and dove.
It was by pure chance that right around the time Kaisei escaped the forest, he received an alert on his phone that a swarm of Skarmory had been spotted in the area just north of Ash City. Wasting as little time as possible, he checked in his team at the Pokemon Center, then grabbed a fresh trio from the PC to begin the hunt, stuffing a few eggs in his backpack for good measure. Based on his experience with eggs, they were quite durable things. He supposed they would be fine. [break][break] He heard the swarm before he saw it. Craning his head upward, he could see them wheeling through the sky, calling to each other and making the occasional pass down toward the ground to hunt, or on occasion to fight. Was he prepared if one of them -- or a whole bunch of them -- noticed him? He gripped Toshi's Pokeball close and edged closer to the flock. [break][break] Party: Houndour (Toshi, Lv9, 5/5 Energy), Pancham (Berserker, Lv11, 5/5 Energy), Remoraid (Minami, Lv11, 5/5 Energy), Bounsweet Egg (3/3 hatching posts), Bounsweet Egg (3/3 hatching posts), Karrablast Egg (3/3 hatching posts) [break][break] Notes: 157 WC[break]
The Skarmory dropped down ready to deliver a Fury Attack with her sharp beak and claws, but by the time they had landed on her, Sherona had already encompassed herself in fire. Thrusting forward in a Flame Charge, she smashed the bird back doing much more damage than she was receiving.
The sharp cry of the Skarmory reverberated in Atticus’s ears, and he knew their plan had worked. “Sherona, Flamethrower,” was the next order. The Larvesta didn’t need to be told twice as she spewed flames even as the Skarmory flew backwards to avoid more damage. Damn it, it just narrowly avoided it.
“Where’s it at, Top?” Atticus asked. The Lycanroc gave a half bark, and Atticus glanced a little higher. “Got it. Sherona, Magnet Rise up till you can get a good shot at it.” The Larvesta shined brightly and rose up into the air. The Air Cutter from the Skarmory did have her cringing for a moment, but she was quick to shake that off again right after. Floating about, she released more flames that this time hit the Skarmory— harder. The bird cried out and swiped some air.
The attacks and heated air were enough to scare the other Skarmory away for now. Tppaz gave a little bark, and Atticus gave a nod. “Alright, toss it then, Top,” was the order. The Lycanroc took the Pokeball and launched it at the Skarmory at just the right angle to smack into it and draw it in!
Sitting out on the short grass next to the road on route 8, Gabe was taking a small break. At his feet, Kitty the Litleo that refused to evolve, was playing with some loose thread that had come off his jeans.
Watching her very closely just a little way away, Caterina the Pyroar was coming to the conclusion that she was, in fact, coming to adore this ridiculous lesser Pokemon. Kitty was by all means an adult Pokemon and by no means a weak one, but her presence was always upbeat, friendly, warm. She was not naïve, but almost acted as such to put on an air of ease. Caterina was only vaguely aware of this last fact, but it was actually very obvious to Gabe and not just because he was a psychic who could read her mind. She had reacted in a way he had at first… and he wondered how long it would take for that aspect of her nature to one day fall away.
A group of Skarmory suddenly flew overhead, and both cats and human turned up to look at it.
At the very tail end of the flock of Skarmory was a rather jaded and disinterested one looking for her chance to break away. They were all chattering on about migrating, but she had since stopped listening to them. She didn’t want to head south with them. She was tired of them. Thus, as she looked down and found a human and his Pokemon looking back up, she saw a chance. Diving downwards, she cried out claws extended ready to slash.
As one of the Skarmory changed direction and came cascading downwards, Gabe tensed. “Kitty, Cat, Noble Roar!” he ordered. Kitty was quick to spring up and then looked sideways at Caterina ready to encourage her. The latter sighed but got up. A pair of roars reverberated up through the Skarmory’s dive, reducing her slashing claws to mere raking as she finally came into contact with the smaller one: the Litleo. Kitty took the attack reasonably well and bounced right back up the minute she fell back.
The Skarmory was quick to flutter back before landing on the ground and giving as bit an intimidating appearance as she could. Unfortunately for her, her thoughts were loud, and her intentions were obvious. She wants to be captured… Did he want a Skarmory? Did he need one? They were weak to his favorite Typing, after all. But they could be useful in other scenario and were powerhouses for lookouts. This one had armor to defend his Murkrow with.
Fine. “Kitty, Fire Fang,” Gabe ordered. The Litleo sprang into action leaping forward and burning up her maw in the process. The Skarmory hopped and swatted but was ultimately bit in the wing for it. She reeled but would not be finished just yet! Swatting and using a Metal Sound, she took some pleasure in watching Kitty cringe in response. Gabe too winced. “Kitty! Fire Fang again!” was the order, and the Litleo went bounding forward again to bite into the Skarmory once more. This time she flinched, and Gabe was quick to take the opening with a Pokeball in hand.
That should do it, or so Gabe had thought. The ball hit the ground and shook as it normally did, but right in the moment that it looked caught, it snapped open again dumping its contents out.
The Skarmory was looking… more hesitant now. She had been so sure that this was what she had wanted, but the minute the ball had sealed around her, she felt herself resist. She didn’t just want to go down, she realized. That would be the same thing as just following the flock. She… she wanted to test this trainer… make him prove that he was better than what she already had. She ahd more self-respect than that to just let herself be caught! Crying out, she fluttered her wings and then formed an Air Slash.
She’s built up resolve.. This thought hit Gabe’s mind about on time with the Air Slash hitting Kitty. The latter yelped and hit the grass harder this time. Cat hissed and went over to make sure she was alright. Luckily for, though, Kitty was already springing to her feet again ready to go. It would take more than an unexpected attack to take her down!
“Kitty, Work Up…” Gabe ordered. If the Skarmory was going to fight harder, they needed to as well. The Litleo gave a small roar and infused herself with more energy. The Skarmory gave out a Metal Sound back. “Fire Fang again…” Lunging forward, Kitty ran at the Skarmory again— taking a painful Slash but also dishing in a sharp return fiery bite. Gabe, meanwhile, walked over to the grass where the Pokeball was, checked it, and then tossed the Pokeball again.
