Will you be a classic trainer? A criminal? A farmer? Choose your destiny on Legends Rising.
Maybe he was on to something and it was different here. After a could of traumatic encounters early in his journey here, the wild Pokémon seemed to be a lot more respectful of trainers. There, of course, were exceptions, and assuming that a wild Pokémon would go straight for a traveler wasn't the worst idea. "The biggest Skarmory-related news story I remember was in this region way south of here called Ageos, there was a Skarmory even bigger than Bladestorm. That monster debiliated an entire small town in the middle of a badlands, and needed to call on help from across the region to deal with it - even the local police couldn't do anything."
Josh and Twilight both nodded when Agate mentioned his claustrophobia, Nitro affectionately nuzzling the young boy with his soft neck-leaves. "I could see that. I've heard of people who are more comfortable in the wild than in cities," Josh related to him. "I think they're nuts, but I've called much worse for being a Pokémon racer.
Bladestorm's Poké Ball continued to rock while on Josh's belt, the young rider picking up a faint whirling sound a bit farther down the mountain. "Let's get a little closer, Twilight." The Absol slowly walked toward the edge of the small plateau, her rider able to see what appeared to be a whirling Hitmontop. He undid the latch on his Skarmory's Poké Ball. "Look - a nice, easy opponent for you!" The excited, ravenous Skarmory continued clawing at the inside of the Poké Ball with her talons until Josh let her out.
Bladestorm raced down the cliffside, her red wings letting out a whining noise. The spaces between them compressed the surrounding air into blades that could cut through even tough skin. Though she took three swift kicks to her metal underside, the cutting blades disrupted her foe's balance to the point where it could no longer maintain its swift whirl, now fighting right-side up instead.
The steel-type went for another dive, the speed of which impressed Josh. Not only could they stoop at high speeds, but their aerodynamic bodies let then glide almost as fast even with a rider aboard! The challenge, of course, would be adapting to that speed himself. The second exchange of blows tested the petite's resolve to continue, ultimately deciding that if she continued to fight, she would probably become a meal. After a vengeant chop to the side of Bladestorm's beak, rendering her rather rounded, the Hitmontop flipped itself upside down again and fled down the trail.
"I'm not in too big a hurry," Josh answered Agate when asked about how quickly he wanted to get to Ash. "I just enjoy the feeling of--Twilight! Bladestorm's hurt!" The worried-looking Absol and trainer bounded down the plateau, his mount making a graceful-looking leap toward the slow-moving metal bird. She needed help, and quickly. Once Twilight had carried Josh the rest of the way there, he hastily dismounted, opening the medicinal pocket of his bag. There was a vial of Super Potion right on top. As soon as Josh started pushing on her, Bladestorm turned over to expose her wounded chest. He sprayed the concentrated medicine all over the dings in her armor before recalling her.
...A Pokemon even bigger than that one just now? Devastated a town? "...A-are you sure that's not a hoax?" Agate asked. "...T-that sounded more to a legendary Pokemon realm of power somehow..." can't fault him for being too skeptical about this! After all, the fiercest one he ever saw is Bladestorm, and Schera is meanwhile very lax to criminal degree.
Awww, that's a nice Skiddo. "You're worried about me, eh? Thank you..." he gently patted the Skiddo's head. "Well, it's not like I'm uncomfortable in city or anything, just I feel more in tune while in nature you know? Plus this body is the result of doing a lot of training while in wild!" Agate flexed slightly. "I love being in nature simply because I can grow with them... Not saying that sometimes going to cities aren't nice either! I love cities too, and just chilling in cities in general. I have no idea why, my brain just automated to 'rest' while in more urban areas."
Hmmm, what's that now? An Oricorio? Well, this is the right time then. "Azalea, come out!" Agate called out one of his Pokemon. It's uncharacteristic of the boy who liked Steel, Rock, Ground, Fighting and Fire... a Water/Ghost Pokemon, and on top of it, it's pink! But even so, Agate seem to not mind it the slightest, as if it's normal. The Oricorio looked at Azalea, who floats idly... The two stared at each other before taking off to the sky!
Azalea opened her attack with Poison Sting! It's uneffective! But it seems that Azalea is aiming to poison the Oricorio first! It retaliated with Air Cutter, which does damage Azalea, but... the poison attack from before seem to land. Azalea continued her assault, this time by using Night Shade at it! It didn't take long before the Oricorio finally fainted, after two more night shades while it is poisoned.
"...Whew. Is Bladestorm alright? Agate asked just to be sure.
"You'd be surprised," Josh replied when Agate seemed skeptical. "Towns can't get very big in the badlands, so their police force probably wasn't too big either." While there were a lot of perks to being away from the hustle and bustle of a large city, when a big threat did make its way to a smaller town, they often had to bring outside help in...and a Pokémon as vicious as Skarmory, especially one going on ten feet tall, could wreak a lot of havoc.
Nitro walked alongside Agate for quite a while, smiling at his compliment. When it was apparent he wasn't interested in hopping aboard, though, the grass-type ran ahead and started letting out shouts of his own. Twilight followed, Josh quickly spotting a pair of wild Pokémon on a lower section of the trail. Bladestorm's Poké Ball started shaking again.
Josh dismounted Twilight and reached for the Skarmory's Poké Ball, the steel menace quick to race toward the Rockruff and cut through its stone body with her chrome talons with no mercy whatsoever. Just snatching the squealing puppy wasn't enough - she beat her wings hard to gain altitude quickly, then looped back around and slammed the already-wounded wild into the dirt-and-rock trail ground. Josh was completely stunned.
Twilight bounded down the trail after her, but by the time the Absol got there, Bladestorm was already in a scuffle with a pouchless Kangaskhan. He seemed furious with the trained Skarmory using far more violence than necessary in defeating the Rockruff, and flew into a rage as though his life depended on teaching this haughty Pokémon a lesson. Bladestorm scratched and scraped at the Kangaskhan's belly, the wild's anger fueling stronger and stronger volleys of Comet Punch with every passing exchange.
Twilight did not dare interfere until it was over. By the time the scuffle was over, Bladestorm was badly hurt. Josh slid down onto their level of the trail, able to see the Skarmory's extensive dings and wounds. Her joints were shaking unlike anything Josh had ever seen; she had to be on the verge of fainting. The two females loudly argued back and forth, Absol cries and metallic squawking drowning out all ambiance.

Well, if it's a small town, he guess that would make sense, but still...? Schera, still idly hovering about, decided to give Agate a reassuring nuzzle that he's fine. Pokemons can be temperamental, but what's the most important is to look at what he have on hand rather than 'what ifs'. The Skarmory squawked, hoping that he could alleviate some of his trainer's worry.
"Hehe, thanks, Schera." Agate gently patted the Skarmory's beak, earning a soft, melodic cry. Huh, looks like she could do that too.
It was then that suddenly someone tossed a Pokeball right at his direction! It pops up, revealing a Tyrogue. The next moment, another pops up, revealing an Alolan Meowth.
"Sooorrry," he suddenly heard someone's voice, not Josh... a man was squatting, and... if he have to describe the looks, he looked like a stereotypical punk. "The road is blocked. If you want to pass, ya better fight me or pay some fee, kiddo." Ah yeah, the typical delinquent huh... Josh... is gone to other direction? Hmn, well this is fine. Agate wasn't paying attention anyway. "...Schera, Riku," both Pokemon nodded. Schera already eyeing for the Tyrogue while Riku put on his stance against the Alolan Meowth.
"Fight it is? Double battle it is then! Focus Energy, Tyrogue!"
"Peck!" Agate commanded Schera, who swooped in, slashing the Tyrogue with her beak. The Meowth meanwhile attempted to scratch at Riku. It hits, but Riku, in anticipation, immediately countered with Sky Uppercut! Two super effective moves. The fight did not drag too long after that. Even after the Tyrogue attempted to attack Schera with Tackle, it doesn't carry that much strength against the steel type bird. Another peck then it was defeated easily. Riku, earning another scratch, once again retaliated with Sky Uppercut. The moment it becomes two against one, the Meowth no longer an issue.
"Tsk... Dang it... not strong enough..."
The delinquent left, just like that. Their typing was admittedly bad against both Schera and Riku, but whatever. Time to catch up Josh... just in time to see what Bladestorm did against a poor Rockruff. Agate frozen on his spot... That was... brutal. Riku disapprovingly cried, as if saying something that it's a fight without honor the slightest. Not letting an opponent to fight back...
The result was understandable... Bladestorm was badly hurt. The Skarmory apparently got into an argument with their teammate. Too bad Agate doesn't understand what they're talking about, but... it can't be good.
"...Is.. uh... I mean... will they be alright?" Agate asked to Josh. Agate's Party: Riku (Riolu) lv10 2/5 Azalea (Frillish) lv9 4/5 Schera (Skarmory) lv12 3/5 Kagari (Torchic) lv2 5/5 Vorpal (Sandshrew (Al)) lv3 5/5 Unnamed Charmander lv1 5/5 <Steel Incense: 5 encounter left>
Josh was scowling; he very clearly was not happy, either. By the time Agate arrived, he had recalled both his Pokémon. Once Nitro could see Josh, the grass-type ran toward him, clopped to a stop next to him, and nuzzled toward his trainer's chest. "They'll be okay, buddy," he assured his Pokémon, gently rubbing his right hand against his partner's horns.
Josh cleared his throat upon hearing Agate's question. "...They'll both be fine. It's just that Bladestorm has been a naughty, naughty girl." He looked down at how wounded the Rockruff was - if that was a trained Pokémon, he would be responsible if its owner didn't make it to a Pokémon Center in time if something untoward were to happen. "When we make it to Ash City's Pokémon Center, she's not getting any treats." Even a wandering Mienfoo shuddered after seeing what kind of trouble the unconscious Rockruff was in. The small Pokémon circled the rock-type a couple of times before scampering off. "I'm sorry you had to see that," Josh apologized to Agate again. "I just want to forget it ever happened."
Twilight was all fired up from her argument - she might do the same thing to an unsuspecting Pokémon if she was let loose. That left Nitro, who seemed excited that he was going to get to spend some quality time with his trainer. "Alright, let's go!" He swung aboard the reliable grass-type and continued toward the large city that grew ever closer. Nitro didn't move faster than a trot to allow Agate to keep up, since he seemed to want to travel on his own two legs. At least Josh offered.

"I see..." there wasn't much that he could say to it.
It's at times like this that Agate wondered why he doesn't have any Pokemon that knows heal pulse... Could have helped this Rockruff. As someone who often sees only the honorable side of the Pokemon, seeing the wilder, more brutal side is not something that he was happy with. Agate bit his lower lip and looked away. Riku would have known Heal Pulse if he's in higher level, but at the meantime... no. Agate only could hope there would be berries around here.
Riku gently pat his trainer's shoulder, trying to reassure him that it's alright. "...Riku... yeah, sorry." Only saying 'what if' will not help anyone. He's not sure if potion are going to help, but... Agate took something out from his bag, it s a cloth. He tore it to make a makeshift bandage and attempted to close the wound of the Pokemon. "...I'm very sorry I can't do more."
If it's choice between using his potions for his Pokemon or a wild Pokemon, he'll definitely keep it for his Pokemons. He cannot do anything else. Anyway... what happened next was he was alerted by Schera about the appearance of... Holy shit, that's huge. Is that a Larvesta? It looked at him and the rest of the team silently. It... approached him, then makes a gesture.
"What do you think it want, Riku?" Agate asked. Riku immediately mimicked a fighter doing a a shadow boxing. Fight? But it seemed like it's a docile kind?
"...Are you sure?"
The Riolu nodded. Schera immediately goes to the front. "...Schera? You want to do it?" a caw of affirmation from the Skarmory. "...Well, then... Go for it!"
Both fighters have a weakness against one another. Before the Larvesta could shoot its attack, Schera immediately attacked with a Sand Attack, whipping up sand as she flew close to the Pokemon. it made the Larvesta's accuracy drop, which in turn made its ember misses the target entirely. Prolonging the fight was not optimal. Schera swooped in with a Peck next, but, the Larvesta, seem to anticipating her attack, shot ember which hits her!
"Schera!"
But with the Peck hit, Agate tossed out Nest Ball before tending to Schera. The fight with Bladestorm, and few other fight just now would made her in significantly wounded status. Time to whip up the potion. "Schera, show me where it hurts. Right, good girl... you did a lot of fighting today." After applying the potion, danger was averted enough! Josh was a borderline Veteran trainer; he had started his Johto journey at 13, the minimum legal age there. Sure, it was legal to own a Pokémon at age 10, but to go on a journey there, it was required to be 13 years of age. "Agate, don't worry about it." Josh said in a somewhat mopey voice. "Bladestorm is my problem, not yours." Inside, he was kind of jealous Schera was so obedient. He had dealt with many disobedient Pokémon, particularly adolescent ones. Come to think of it, Bladestorm could qualify as adolescent. Give her time, and she would grow up. The only concern was how much blood would need to be spilled for her to do just that...
The battle between Schera and the Larvesta was fast-paced; just as Josh was starting to relax, it was over...or so Josh thought when the wild shattered Agate's Nest Ball. "To shatter such quality workmanship, it must be strong," Josh mumbled loud enough for Agate to hear if he was paying attention. After breaking out, it looked like the fire-type wanted more. "Agate!" Josh cried, releasing a Luxio between the wild and the ailing Schera. "Blitz, protect them until he's done healing Schera!" The electric feline nodded, then drew his lips back, revealing his powerful, sharp teeth and making the wild think twice about kicking Schera and Agate while they were down.

Well, indeed it's Josh's problem, but... at the same time Agate wondered just how many times would this repeat. It's good that he was quick when Bladestorm was out, but... if she was any faster and Schera was alone rather than with Riku, how would it go? Agate shook his head, trying to shoo off the thoughts. But for the meantime, he need to get this Pokemon in front of him. Unlike what Josh is telling him, he... felt as if this Pokemon isn't really trying to have another go. It's not attacking... it's perhaps just too strong for one nest ball to contain. With that being said though, Agate tossed another ball!
"These are really expensive you know..." he muttered to no one in particular. Aaaah, his wallet is screaming in pain already... "...I need to do more construction based job later in Ash City," Agate muttered. Anyway, let's see what happened!
Even after a second Nest Ball, a specialty Poké Ball designed for Pokémon for new trainers, the Larvesta still didn't want to come with Agate! "From my experience, a Pokémon that stubborn would be a real handful to raise," Josh remarked, overhearing Agate's comment about the prices. "And this is why I only buy specialty Poké Balls from Kurt," he continued. Kurt was a specialty Poké Ball vendor that crafted Apricorn Balls with his daughter for a living. His plant was based out of Azalea, Johto, but it served the entire region, and was the small town's largest employer by far.
As the two continued south, the gate about five miles away, the mention of a construction job reminded Josh of something. "...I should probably check to see if Shovelware Studios has a new contract for me. I'm one of their testers. I don't know how much you follow old-school games, but they released a randomizer project for The Last Link - grew wildly popular in a hurry. I was one of the testers for it!"
The rider turned his head forward. "Hey Twilight, can you hold on for a bit?" The Absol was quick to obey without a physical command, from a trot to a walk to a stop. Taking out his phone, he thumber through his e-mails. "Nothing yet. Then again, between the trip to Moonrise and meeting you, I did just finish a contract with them. Sadly I'm under NDA, so I can't really talk about it until a release date is announced."

Oh well, it doesn't want to come with him! That's fine... Schera suddenly left for a bit though, but not before chirping at Riku who nodded. "...Huh? What was that? She's not leaving because I did bad, right?" Agate asked Riku, who shook his head. "Then, is something important coming up?"
That he nodded. "Huh, I see, I see. I wonder if she wanted to fetch something... Then again she often just wander off her own while we're back home too. I wonder what's her deal?"
The talk of the Larvesta might be difficult to train made Agate shrug. "I guess so... Or that could just mean I'm not strong enough to train it or something. Gotta train more... Specialty Pokeballs though? Are they like... artisanal sort?" to be honest craft of Pokeballs from Apricorns aren't something that Agate knows. Apricorn he does know, but crafting Pokeballs from it? Ballsy.
Old School game? "Hmm, I rarely play games. They're a bit too expensive for me, eheh. Some of the richer kids back home always says they love playing games, but I don't quite get it... or more like, I don't really have the time for it. It might be interesting if I could be a beta tester though... those are the one that tried the games, right?"
Schera would soon come back... WAIT WAIT WAIT, ARE THOSE EGGS? SHE'S CARRYING EGGS ON SOME CLOTHES!? She just casually dropped all of it to Agate, who just blinked. Schera squawked in amusement. "...Well, I didn't get Larvesta, but I guess I got some eggs instead. Err... I had no idea you're a mother, though!" Agate's Party: Riku (Riolu) lv10 2/5 Azalea (Frillish) lv9 4/5 Schera (Skarmory) lv13 5/5 Kagari (Torchic) lv2 5/5 Vorpal (Sandshrew (Al)) lv3 5/5 Unnamed Charmander lv1 5/5 (Steel incense: 4 encounters remain)
"Kurt is the owner and operator of the only specialty Poké Ball company in Johto," Josh explained. "They're Poké Balls that work better on certain kinds of Pokémon." He slipped off his Pokémon, then set his supplies down, digging out a blue and yellow Poké Ball. "For instance, this one works better if you use it the moment you see a Pokémon. Great if you see something you really want--"
The sound of gallopping hooves echoed from the direction of the city, a Rapidash casually running toward the two. It didn't look casual, though - even a relaxed run was still comparable to Saber's Quick Attack! Upon closer inspection, the Rapidash didn't have a horn. That meant that it wasn't actually a Rapidash at all - just a greatly overgrown Ponyta! This would sell for a fortune in Johto. "Speaking of which," Josh said with a smile, clicking the switch to bring the Ball to full size and tossing it at the fire-type straight away.

Huh, alright. He thought that Pokeballs are more... how to say... high tech? There are someone who said that Pokeballs are made to show the Pokemon's desired ecosystem while they're inside after all. With that in mind, he thought that it would require a specific technology that could make it a reality. But looks like anyone could make them? In a way, it's amazing... But what's more amazing is the fact they could make different Pokeballs than the ones owned by Silph Co. or Devon Corps.
"Eh?" Agate only could let a stupid sound when Josh just like that tossed his Pokeball at an unsuspecting Ponyta (it was damn huge too!) As far as he know they need to weaken it first! But why does Josh just like that tossed his Pokeball? But to his surprise, the racer could capture it without even fighting it... Amazing...
"...T-that, I dunno what just happened but that was amazing!"
But they weren't alone. Just few second afterward, a young girl approached the duo, running and out of breath. "Aww... you captured it already... Just my luck too!"
From the look of her, she's about... fifteen to seventeen eh. But that school outfit, that's definitely not someone who should be here normally. "Were you hunting Pokemon?" Agate asked.
"Well, not really! I was here accompanying my brother to look for materials for his researches! But before long, I'm bored, my brother start talking about his rocks for long long long long time. It was then I saw the Ponyta! But it ran away aaand that guy over there caught it. Well if he got dibs on it, what can I say? But still... I'm bored! Hey you!" the girl pointed at Agate. "Fight me! I need a little bit of excitement out of this! I really won't challenge that guy over there for the Ponyta, but at least please entertain me!"
...What sort of demand is 'entertain me'? But the girl does not sounds like a bad person.
"I mean... I guess that's fine? How's the format?"
"Let's see... 1 vs 1, three matches, sounds good?"
Three matches huh. "That sounds good with me. Alright, let's meet halfway." Agate and the Lass, who later introduced herself as Laelia would met halfway. "...The format is one versus one, three matches, right? Alright... in one, two..."
The first Pokemon that Agate sent out is Riku, while Laelia sent out a Nidoran. Oops. the typing isn't good. Poison resists Fighting. But even so, he guess it's fine in itself.
"Riku, will you be fine? Or do you want to trade?" Riku looked back at him like asking "Who on earth are you talking to?" and assumed his fighting stance. Ah, he's going to fight regardless, huh. And so the match begin! Lass Laelia's Nidoran was late due to level difference. Riku is higher. He did not waste any moment and closed in the distance and immediately used Metal Claw! The attack hits its target, who launched to the other side. It immediately came back with vengeance (not literally), by attempting to Scratch Riku! It was effective, but with their sheer level differences, Riku immediately followed with another Metal Claw! He won the match rather easily, but... Before the next match could be called, Riku raised his paw at Agate. A request to switch out eh. "Gotcha. You're tired, right, Partner? That's OK! You can hang back if you want!"
Well, then, next match would be..·mvcgevBJ

"Awww, my Nidoran lost... W-well, she was my weakest Pokemon, so you did well! I'll definitely train her more after this! Match two... ready, GO!"
The next to appear is a Frosmoth. Agate haven't learned that one yet. He browsed it in his phone then nodded.... Eh? Wait, that doesn't make sense. Why is she bringing an Ice Pokemon down here? That's just pretty much suicide isn't it? Either way, the next of Agate's Pokemon is... Schera. The Skarmory squawked idly.
"Schera, bug types tends to play with a lot of status effects! So before you get affected by a nasty status effect, let's just end this quickly!" Schera squawked in approval. It was at this moment that sadly... It wasn't a fight the slightest. Schera would use her steel wing to attack the Frosmoth, immediately winning the match from the sheer level differences and super effective move.
"W-w-w-what's up with your Pokemons! You're totally strong!"
"Err, I think it's just our typing is a bit..." Agate tried to soften the situation. Honestly, he can't even tell her that his Pokemons are mostly natives of this area, which means they're steel, ground or rock types, also fire... which her Pokemons are weak against. So really, the typing was unfortunate. "E-either way, the third one?"
Lass Leslie sent out Smoochum while Agate sent out Azalea. The matchup isn't as bad as before. Azalea and Smoochum's level was close to one another. And just like usual, Azalea started with Poison Sting! lpMguthbp_ Unfortunately the poison did not land! Smoochum immediately was ordered to lick Azalea! It's a super effective move! Azalea cried out in displeasure. Because she's a ghost type though, she was not paralyzed. In anger, however, she immediately used Bubble! ...Unfortunately her level is a bit too low for night shade to work well. So she was against it. Once the Smoochum tried to come again for another lick, Azalea quickly smacked her tentacles to the ground, the force propelled her above. She once again shoot bubbles at it! Getting hit by another one of that would be too dangerous...
"Azalea, do you want to switch?" Agate asked, to which the Pokemon shook her head... or body perhaps? She pointed at the other Pokemon, as if saying to Agate that Azalea followed the attack with a third bubble! She won the match... but at the same time badly wounded!
"Great job Azalea. Let's treat you, alright?" Agate sprayed potions on the wound before nodding. She's fine now.
"Aw, geez, I lost... Alright alright, thank you for the battle! That was fun!"
"Sorry about your Frostmoth..." Agate sheepishly scratches the back of his head.
"Well it can't be helped, right?" the lass answered, shrugging her shoulders. "Well, I should go back now before my big bro toss some fuss! See ya!" Mod notes: Battle won Agate uses Potion on Azalea, healing her fully!
