You know, it never hurt to do odd jobs here and there for some extra cash right? It was what responsible, adult like people did when they needed money quickly because they weren't going to get paid until after rent was due and they had messed up paying their other bills and now needed some cash to cover it. Right?
Good! Because that was the embarrassing situation Sonia was now in. Her bills were caught up, even ahead, but payday was the 2nd and rent was due the first. And as much as she could have just choked down her embarrassment and checked if Fayne could cover it, she had decided this was the best route. Only, maybe she had bit off a bit more than she could chew.
"I'm sorry, but this is the only Pokemon that needs to be washed before we can groom it." The other lady frowned as she led Sonia outside to the pool that they had for such Pokemon. Such Pokemon being a large, frankly intimidating Gyarados. Sonia gulped down as much fear as she could before nodding her head.
"I'll get it done as quick as I can." The psychic assured the girl. She had already made the day trip out here, it would be a waste if she didn't at least try. This place had already warned her to bring a swimsuit, so she just had to strip down as she had worn it under her clothes. She was left with the tools she would need, sponges, towels, buckets and brushes as well as a hose as a source of fresh water.
So now she was relatively face to face with the large Gyarados. "Hello." She reached her mind out to the unfamiliar one of the Gyarados, trying to be as calming as possible. "I'm here to wash you up for today, so if it's alright, I'd like to start at your face so I can try to keep soap from getting into your eyes. Is that alright?" Sonia asked as she grabbed one of the smallest towels, dipping it into one of the buckets which was filled with fresh water and a little bit of soap for just this purpose. Then, being as careful as she could she wiped at one of the fins on the side of the Gyarados's face. That was a good place to start right?

Oh! Okay, well, that was unfortunate! But at least Sonia had a better idea as to what she was working with. Though it was no wonder nobody else wanted to was this particular Pokemon. If it was known for this kind of behavior, along with it's size which was easily, what, five or six times her own? Probably even more than that if she were to be honest. Okay, so she needed to calm it down, but she couldn't reach it's, imd like she could with her own Pokemon.
So it was a big guessing game, meaning she had to go with the clues she was given. Which was really that it got mad when she got close to the pool. Weren't Gyarados known for being territorial? That was all she really had to go off of. So she had two options, try to be the top mon with something that could swallow her whole, or be submissive and appease it. The safest option was pretty damn clear.
"I'm sorry." The blonde ducked her head, breaking eye contact and backing away, she kept the pace steady so not to be too quick, nor too slow. She waited until she was back at the door that she had to pass through to get into the pool area. Only then did she look up. Then she waited several long, almost painful minutes to hopefully give the Gyarados a chance to calm down before she was speaking again.
"May I please come closer?" She then asked, hoping that the Gyarados would now understand her.
Alright! That was some progress! Sonia smiled softly before she was slowly stepping forward. Though this time she didn't go right to the edge of the pool, instead stopping several feet away back at the supplies that she had been given. "Is there a certain one you prefer?" She asked mentally, picking up a sponge in one hand and one of the small wash towels in the other.
"I think the towel would be better for your face, as I can wring it out more so there isn't a loat of soap that could drip into your eyes. Which is something I'd like to avoid. Getting soap in your eyes is painful. So the sponge could be good for everything else. But they are trusting me to wash you up real good so that they can polish your scales all nice." Sonia thought out loud in an attempt to earn at least a little bit more of the Gyarados's trust.
This was going to be a big job, and if she didn't actually get started soon, she might run out of time to do it. There was a lot of sea serpent that needed to be washed even if she didn't look the dirtiest.
"May I start on your face? It would make the most sense to do so, though I can easily start wherever you'll let me." Sonia smiled, waiting while still a few feet away in the hopes that the Gyarados would be kind enough to let her get started somewhere, even if it was the tail or some other odd part.
The Gyarados lets out a choked growl in response to your offer. Clearly, the face is off-limits here! However, she is gracious enough to offer you another target; her tailfin. It looks equal parts strong and sensitive . . . wash with caution!
Okay, one step forward, little step back. Still something Sonia could work with. At least she was able to actually start the washing process and show the Gyarados that she knew (mostly) what she was doing. After all, she had a Galarian Ponyta who needed his mane combed regularly lest it turn into an unmanageable mess. Plus there was her Vaporeon who also had some very sensitive fins that had to be washed before. And though her Lapras wasn't the largest of her species but still offered enough surface area that needed to be washed.
Now Sonia just had to apply all that to washing this darling! And since she was at least presented with the tail, a place she knew could still be sensitive she knew to be careful. She had already had Mana freak out at her once before and drench the place.
"I'm just going to hold onto it a little bit." Sonia warned softly before one hand was underneath the fin to steady it, while her more dominant right hand was bringing a cloth to it so she could begin to very carefully wipe it down, even making sure to pay some extra cautious attention to where fin met scale to make sure that she removed any grime that could be stuck between the two. All with a smile on her face as she kept her touch as light as possible, her skills as a nurse potentially coming into play.

You scrub the tailfin with just the right amount of gentleness and firmness. By the time you're done, it is actually gleaming. The Gyarados looks pleased, and extends more of her body out of the pool toward you.
Would you look at that, having nimble fingers and a near feather light touch really worked. Or it was just the practice with her own Pokemon that were more tolerable to her touch that had helped. At the same time, if she treated a patient roughly (no matter how accidental it may be) was still very frowned upon. Either way, Sonia felt herself smiling softly as the fin was finished and it looked, pretty damn good actually if she were to toot her own horn.
Considering how much fuss had been made already, Sonia was expecting more trouble. So it was quite nice when it went well. "So beautiful." She murmured softly, her gentle grip on the fin leaving as even more of the serpent's length was presented to her. Maybe, just maybe, she could actually do a good job and get out of here in decent time. Though the blonde wouldn't hold her breath, it was much more important that she do the best job possible.
"I heard that they are still going to polish you after this. You will be sparkling once that's done. Won't that be lovely?" Sonia asked, earning a soft rumble from the Gyarados as Sonia moved a bit closer to get to work on the length presented to her this time. Again her left hand helped support the limb, her dominant hand working carefully, using the natural segmentation of the scales to make sure every part of the serpent began clean. Only breaking away to wipe over the first of four dorsal fins.
So what had started off rocky, had eventually turned into a form of trust between a human and Pokemon. And all it took, was a bit of patience, and proving that Sonia actually knew what she was doing. As awkward as it was to work from tail to head instead of the other way around, Sonia managed by going with the natural segmentation of the scales. And it felt like such a prize once she reached the head of the great, purring serpent.
Sonia was still smiling as she took extra care to keep the cloth from dripping as she worked over the Gyarados's face. Eyes were carefully avoided while Sonia wiped over the crest. Fins were treated with equal care. One last wipe to the cheek ridges, and done!
"There you go darling! All clean!" Sonia cheered, giving the Pokemon a gentle pet as one of the other workers came out with the other clothes and polish. "Care to help with the rest?" The other girl asked.
"Would love to!" Sonia smiled, ready for just a bit more work.
