Choice: Machamp (Strength), Blaziken (Speed), Lucario (Either) Well this is a strange day, but whatever... Apparently, after hearing that he doesn't mind to do any Pokemon related job, someone reached out to him. They said, there are three trainers, brothers apparently, who got Pokemons from their big brother who gone to challenge new leagues on different region, this time without his previous Pokemons.. so they're technically a hand-downs. As much it was quite heartwarming or a 'what have you done' moment, there are several problems about it...
First, the brothers are 13, 14 and 15 respectively, they stayed in Fuji for most of their lives, and wasn't able to go on a journey due to various factors. One was wheelchair bound and is in therapy, another was busy with farmworks, and the last one had to work on an apprenticeship before he could take ranger job apparently... but he have yet to train any Pokemons. But even so, to not disappoint their eldest brother, the three siblings tried to teach the Pokemons in their own way. The result was... less than optimum.
The situation was: The wheelchair bound thirteen years old got Machoke from his brother, who immediately evolved to Machamp the first time he let it out from his ball. The Machamp was the brother's highest level Pokemon, and understandably there are a bit of crossed wires between such a strong Pokemon and the thirteen years old, who doesn't really know how to train the superpowered Pokemon. The Machamp isn't a bad Pokemon, but it's very prideful of its own high level... as anyone would if they're that strong, but still...
The fourteen years old who was busy with farmwork got Lucario... and apparently according to Riku, they cannot communicate at all. The Lucario stayed silent, while the fourteen years old had no idea what he meant. Basically, a case of language barrier perhaps? If he have to say, it was like they were unable to understand what's going on. With Riku beside him, the teen trusts that Agate could understand what he want and thus train him. Riku understood what's going on exactly, but he can't quite communicate it with Agate due to the boy's unawareness of his own aura and his abilities to see it.
Finally, the fifteen years old got Blaziken... Which apparently was not appreciative toward being passed on to the ranger to be. Something about how it feel like rangers only would get calls to battle when the situation calls for it, and even then it's against wild Pokemons. Apparently after taught to battle versus so many other trained Pokemons, it's very skeptic that the wild Pokemons are as strategic as the Pokemon who are trained.
With knowledge of the situation, Agate clapped his hands to gather the three's attention. "Alright, your trainers have asked me to train with you. My name is Agate... I'm not quite a Pokemon Trainer, I'm an Explorer... but I know some tricks in training Pokemons. To help all of us training this time around, I have two assistants ready to help me." Agate tossed two Pokeballs out, calling out Riku the Riolu and Kagari the Torchic.
"I think two of you," he looked at the Lucario and Blaziken "would be more at ease if you talk with these two of similar species. I'll rotate the focus, but for the meantime, I'd like you all to communicate with us how would you like to improve your relationship with your trainers... Once everything is set, we'll begin the training."
You get the general gist of what each Pokemon's concern it. The Machamp and Blaziken want proper challenges, but the Lucario stands out. He simply wants to improve communication with his trainer.
Huh, right right, so the Machamp want to a proper challenge, so does the Blaziken (according to Kagari). The Lucario however, apparently wanted to communicate better? Ummm, that's a bit hard... Well, Agate clapped his hands. "I have heard what you wanted to do, and I think I got things that you can do. Good challenges it is? Well, I get what good challenges you can do! As for Lucario... I'll teach that too I guess. But for now, I need to design the training gadgets first."
The next day, Agate returned to the farm, but this time also requested the presence of the three brothers. He carried (by himself that is) a training gadget. "Alright, this one..." *phew* he exhaled before he explained again. "This one is a training gadget for the Machamp. The idea is for you to punch this machine here... as you see, it got arms. These arms can be moved, and even if you broke the arms, I got several spares. The idea is to do this..."
Agate pointed at bullseyes on the arms. there's LH, RH. There are four arms in totals, which brings the target to four. "You have to punch 'em..." Agate punched the target with "LH" with his left hook, then "RH" with his right hook. "From this you can get it, right? Aaaand... It also a perfect thing to control your strength."
The Machamp doesn't look as if he got it. "Look, you might be able to roughhouse with the big brother, but this guy here would need more care. Surely you know that, right? Plus you grew stronger now that you're fully evolved! Anyway... ummmm... moment." Agate pulled out Azalea's Pokeball. "Azalea, I'd like you to switch around the arms of the targets just as we discussed before!"
Next... Next is, the Blaziken. "You said you like speed training, right?" the Blaziken nodded. "Then that's why I picked this route. There are a lot of natural obstacles here... but that's not all. Here." Agate put on weights on the Blaziken's legs and arms. "They're the same as mine. I'm going to show you how it's done... ready?" And so, Agate ran, scaling walls. He had no idea how good he did it, nor he cared pretty much. He keep going through the hurdles, doing his best to complete the track. With weights on both his wrists and ankles, it's hard, but eventually, he managed. The track includes wall climbing, side jumps through small canals, crawl, and high jumps (with pole if in case of Agate, but without for the Blaziken). "There, you go do it now for the meantime, alright?"
As for the Lucario... "...Hmmm, come to think of it, can aura sphere changes color?" Agate asked to Riku, who shook his head. "No, huh. Let's see... How about shapes?"
Riku thought about it for a while, then nodded. Perhaps...? "...Maybe we can train by shaping aura instead. Let's see... How do you want to communicate?" WC:497 Boost to stamina from showing the Pokemons how it's done!
The Pokemon set to work on their designated tasks relatively readily. The Machamp punches very quickly and seems to be enjoying himself. The Blaziken is off and running. The Lucario sits down and seems to try and focus as much as possible on this suggestion.
It was determined that you do not receive a +1 to stamina just yet. You may add some of this word count to a consecutive post, but the mod would like to se more of Agate using up his stamina before rewarding a point.
To train the Pokemon though does not mean that he have to do all the work by himself. If he only train them without involving their actual owner in this, it's like a daycare rather than truly training them. "...Kay, so... you three, I'm going to explain you what you have to do... Um, let's start with the easiest first."
So he goes to the fourteen years old. "Right, so, we're at the same age roughly, yeah?"
"Yeah, we are," the boy answered. "Therefore let's forgoes any formalities."
"Heh, agreed there. Alright, I'm not sure how much you know, but... Riolu and Lucario are very perceptive of our emotions. It's not how we communicate to them that you need to be watchful of... it's our emotions. A lie could be easily detected, any feeling of secrecy will be immediately revealed. Sure you don't have to say everything to him, but... You have to remember to be honest. If your words and feeling does not match, the Lucario will know. And he want to get along with you. So you have to do your best to be truthful to him, to be kind to him. I understand it feels like your privacy is breached, somewhat, but a loyal Riolu and Lucario will understand you better than anyone else. Just like me and this guy here," Agate fistbumped Riku, who immediately know what to do. "See?"
And next, the eldest child. "...So, about your Blaziken... I understand that having such as strong Pokemon immediately would be really confusing, or maybe felt like you're..."
"Starting with cheat mode on, yeah," the ranger admitted, smiling bitterly. "I can't help but to feel that at times."
"But at the same time, you should also think about what he's feeling. He's starting with new trainer, trainer that does not do what he usually does. It's totally alien to him, the same way he's alien to you. That's why I think it's important for you to try showing him your world, while at the same time also engage in Pokemon Battling. His world was those of a Pokemon Battling, after all. If you two compromises, then I think you two would be great partners, even if say, he become an emergency option for the meantime."
"...I see, well, I guess I'll try that..."
And finally the wheelchaired guy. "...So about you... erm, this is hard, admittedly."
"Don't worry! I can understand. Pure physical and someone who on wheelchair is probably a bad combinati--"
"That's not the case," Agate quickly cut the younger boy's words. "...In fact, I think there's a way for you to come into agreement. It's not as if you two are completely alien, right? Surely when your brother is home, he would introduce you to his Pokemons, right?"
"Y-yeah, but what does that have to do with anything?"
"...Then you should just show him that you're trying hard in your own way. You said that you're in rehabilitation. You don't have to see being wheelchair bound as being weak. The fact that you're trying to improve makes you strong. Pokemons can also see efforts. Exactly because they speak through language of strength that they could see your effort... or that's what I believe in at least."
The day ended up rather uneventful, and hopefully it stays smooth sailing. Agate told the rest to think it carefully, and call him another day. Pokemon training can't be done in just a day after all. WhgSredJ
Another day, another job. Or in this case, the same job. When you come back in, you see that the Pokemon you trained and trainers you've . . . Pokemonned? No, that's not quite right. But in any case, Pokemon and trainer alike are working more closely with one another now, making a concerted effort at getting more comfortable with each other's hopes, worries, and goals.
It's still a shaky process, but everyone's all smiles when Agate shows back up for Day 2.
Look at that! Ain't that really good? Agate was really happy about the changes that he brings out by talking heart to heart to the trainers... and the Pokemons looks like they're supporting their trainers just fine! The Machamp, trying to be as gentle as possible, his helping his trainer's rehabilitation by holding his hands as support while he slowly attempted to walk. It's shaky, but he's definitely getting stronger, like getting used to his old pace now. For the busy farmer boy, the Lucario has been able to form simple shapes and is using it to communicate with the boy. It's a great progress, and now that they have known each other, they're slowly heading toward better communication. Now he only have to wonder whether it will stay the same or not. The Blaziken and the Ranger has reached an understanding where the Blaziken will instead train the Ranger-to-be (wow) physically so that he one day may proudly command him in Pokemon battle.
So, with this being said, the focus on the second day is to train together.
"For the second day, I'd like you guys to follow this menu... If you guys have any problem, please do tell me."
The content of the menu is as follow: The Machamp will follow the wheelchaired boy's directive this time around (with hook, jab or kick). He must follow the guideline while hitting the dummy following the order of the numbers set. Azalea once again is responsible for changing the numbers as the Machamp cleared the target. The idea here is that it's a delicate work that need concentration from both the Pokemon and the human. If the human fails to be reasonable to their Pokemon, the training will get into a hitch.
Second, the Lucario and the farmboy will go around the field about five laps, or to do the farmboy's own work. But! They may not vocally talk. They must use some sort of sign language, or in case of the Lucario, auras. This is obviously hard to do, but he believes that the boy and his Lucario could handle this...
Third, the ranger to be and the Blaziken. As for these two, Agate decided to give them mission that they should try using the Pokemon's strength creatively. Blaziken's best attributes isn't only its speed, but also its flame prowess.. With that in mind, wouldn't it make sense for them to find usage of the ability? For the meantime however Agate requested them to stay inside the training area premises so they would not be too far from him if things happened...
...Here hoping that it will be great! They're off to great start after all!
They're all so close! And they're all trying so hard! But sometimes trying so hard can be a weakness in its own right.
The Machamp and his trainer are going guns blazing right from the start! Is . . . is this many punches per second really sustainable training? Machamp is all smiles for now, but dear god he's gonna be feeling this in the morning.
Lucario and his trainer are bonding great over their silent farmwork. But he just plucked the TOMATOES instead of the POTATOES! Tonight's stew is ruined! Ruined, I say!
The Blaziken has a creative idea in mind, but he and his trainer are having a hard time putting two and two together to actually finish it. A no-contact punch, where flames rush from Blaziken's wrist to sear the dummy they're practicing on, should be simple, right? But why isn't it working?
...It was... Chaos. Truly a Chaos. Agate goes from all smiling to look of horror at this sight. Noes. Noes, totally noes. He must immediately intervene. Agate immediately blew a whistle, saving poor Azalea, who's moving the dummy at too high of a speed to finally stop and flop on the ground. Agate immediately poured water over the poor thing... oh god. Poor Azalea. She immediately grabbed the water bottle and poured more on herself.
"Right, I think you guys are going a bit wrong over here! So, let's go with the basic again. Machamp, you're doing great in pleasing your trainer and I know you" he turned his attention to the trainer "are excited with the momentum he's going, and that's why you're asking him to punch at mach speed, but... you should probably test the water before going too fast, Take it slow and steady before going so fast at it. Azalea, are you alright?"
The Frillish raised her tentacle in feeble attempt to make a thumbs up motion. Welp.
Returning to the Lucario and the middle child. "...Um, why didn't you... tell him that he did wrong?" Agate asked "no, you could actually talk when you're talking with me."
"U-uh, sorry, after looking at him harvesting the tomatoes with smile and thought that he did right, I just..."
"...You're quite a nice guy aren't you... but even so, you should scold him or tell him no if you saw him did wrong! I mean, they're both Solanaceae, but that's not the focus! Are you going to make stew or are you going to make some tomato puree?" Agate asked, to which the two sheepishly scratches the back of their head. Somehow they looked similar, so here hoping they could get it what they should do. "Don't forget the easiest yes no motions. Shake your head or nod it."
As for the other one... "...Yeah the dummy are going to get destroyed if you do it like that. I mean more that you should repeat what you learned at the ranger school and... attempt to replicate it with him. Don't get overexcited too... geez... you should teach him the more basic like basic controls while with you before going full strength... The difference between Torchic and Blaziken is really high you know!"
And with that, he clapped his hands again, hoping to see what changed after this.
The Machamp doesn't appreciate being asked to slow down very much, neither does the trainer but they fall back into a rhythm easily enough. Azalea probably appreciates the reprieve too!
Both the Lucario and the quiet farmer go back to picking the correct vegetables this time but only after the farmer assures the Lucario they can use the tomatoes for something else. Seems they're getting along just fine, though the next step has the Lucario looking a little lost... hmm, maybe there are still some kinks to work out.
The Blaziken didn't appreciate Agate's disapproval of his creative idea. He huffs and starts punching the dummy with more speed than before! Well, at least he seems more focused now. His trainer is eventually able to give him some pointers. There's hope for them yet!
Goodness gracious, that was quite the event... Azalea was very dried up from all that fast switching... If she got any level boost after this, he wouldn't blame her. That level boost is rightfully hers for switching the targets so fast that she could barely catch a breath. She really did well. But looks like the rhythm has been set. This is good. As for the other... The Lucario and the farmer boy is doing well enough now... The next step need to be decided. As for the last one, as expected, the Blaziken is not happy, but it can't be helped. Can't please everyone at the same time after all. There's a process that need to be done...
"Alright, Azalea, are you alright?" Agate asked. Azalea gave him a thumbs up after recharging her electrolytes. "...Good, for the meantime, we will impart the next step of the training.. Machamp, kneel down a bit."
Now, Agate draw 1, 2, 3, 4 on the back on the Machamp's hands with a washable marker. "...Right, so here's the thing... remember the numbers on your arm... you too," he called out to the wheelchaired boy. "Remember it. I'll give you twenty minutes. I'm going to check the others."
Now to the boy and his Lucario, he decided that the next step would be for them to communicate with gesturing. Agate took out a helmet and several cards with pictures on them. "You two, please sit here," he pointed at two rocks, perfect for sitting across each other. "Lucario, you may gesture or form something with your aura sphere to explain what's drawn on the top of this guy's head. As for you, you should guess what he meant. By the way, Lucario, you may not point to the actual object. Riku, you should switch the drawing everytime the guy get it right. Also, it's a game, so you two should just relax and bond, alright? Ummm, maybe training too... like... let's see, jogging around the field or something?"
Now finally the Blaziken...
"Hmmm, for this one, how about if you do a bit of a preview mission or something? Let's see... You two are doing fine, so how about going on Route 8 a bit, and see how you two deal with problems? I'll send Schera to monitor you two, while keeping it on a time attack or sort... Remember to always talk to each other and communicate what you wanted to do. Sometimes seeing how each other solve their problems would bring you two into some sort of mutual understanding... let's see... for this round, how about letting your trainer do everything by himself first, Blaziken? Then, on the second turn, it's the reverse. The Blaziken must do everything by himself while you, the trainer, follow what he wanted to do, that's all I think. I think by making it time attack or sort, you two would understand how you two are doing in situation that requires snap thinking."
Now back to the Machamp.
"I'm going to blindfold you now. You shouldn't punch mindlessly. Hold back your strength. Have you two remembered the numbers? The idea is your trainer would call the number of your fist and direct it to the target. "Lower, higher, middle" those kind of thing. Blind Boxing. Do you get it? This is also strength control training."
Well, that's all for the meantime. Now let's see how it goes! WC: 542
The set up for these activities seemed to be going very well! At the very least, all parties involved were receptive of the current way things were going.
The Machamp and the boy in the wheelchair began to memorize the numbers written on Machamp's arms, wondering what they'll have to do.
Lucario and the other boy worked through the game together. It was a little awkward at first, but soon they began to open up a bit more and understand each other through these cards.
The Blaziken and its trainer were caught off guard by the sudden 'mission,' but decided to give it a shot anyway. This sort of thing would be important for Ranger duty anyway. The two seemed to work together well while also being self-reliant when necessary.
Finally, Machamp and their trainer began to work on the revealed training method. At each call out, Machamp punched, getting it right more often than not!
Things were going rather swimmingly! Let's see how this continues.
Communication is doing well. Supposedly, he only have a little bit more before the contract is over. He guess following this momentum he should be reinforcing this style of training further. Control of strength already almost there, and therefore... the next step is to further reinforce this...
"Alright, Machamp, uh... first thing first..."
Agate began by lifting some wooden blocks along with Riku and Azalea. His strength was nowhere close to a Pokemon, but you bet his ass that he's strong enough to lift some of those blocks. He stacked it, in almost jenga-like way, but not just limited to woods. He also stacks some rocks too. By the way, these blocks are actually lumber for fireplace... but apparently the family does not mind if it could help their training. Anyway, returning... He put three dolls in front of the bottom stack of the rock and wood formation.
"Here's the final training method for you to control your strength. Punching jenga. The idea is you have to pulverize the entire thing without it crushing any of the doll, or fall sideway or backward. As you know, I stacked these thing higher than your Machamp's height... about one and half. Rules: 1, you may not destroy everything in less than 10 punches. 2, you may not lift, you only can kick or punch. 3, if the doll got damaged, you lose. 4, you may inspect the structure, but you shouldn't make it fall. Making it is a hard work after all."
As for the farmer boy with Lucario... "As for you guys, I'd like you two to... do boxing exercise. As you know, you two has communicated pretty well. Time to train for real. By looking at each other only, I want you two to take in turns doing kickboxing moves. Mind your strength, mind your partner's intent. Please don't send mixed messages for this time only. Feints and such should be for when you guys are much more understanding on one another."
...as for the third, the Ranger with Blaziken... They're doing well it seems. Schera did not call him, nor the two are having any sort of problem, so he thought that he should just let them be for the meantime. Their training is much more time consuming than the other. Schera will definitely keep eye on them, and act as a compass if they're late.
Agate himself will probably focus his attention on the second eldest brother (The ranger in training) after this. Give them one final training.
Machamp was at first confused, but slowly began to understand the point of this endeavor. To carefully remove debris without harming those around it. Made sense. They prepared themselves and properly followed Agate's advice, punching and kicking with controlled strength.
The Lucario and his trainer started their exercise. Light jabs and telegraphed kicks to each others' bodies. They looked to be more trusting of one another.
The ranger hopeful and the Blaziken were doing well too. No issues to report.
Everything seem to be under control over here! "All good you guys! Keep at it!" he encouraged. Just to be sure, he gave the last pointer to the two... "You're doing great, Just keep telling your Machamp where to hit... there's a tell tale sign on rock when it's about to break... That is, there's uneven distribution of weight, like something is going to topple over. When that happened, strike ones that about to destroyed, or lighten its load to prevent it from breaking apart. If it breaks apart, you'd want to keep it in one piece to prevent a landslide. So you have to weight it down somehow. Sounds strange? That's how it is."
As for the Lucario and the trainer... "Try to switch! Now you can slowly add feints to your attacks! Look at your Pokemon's legs, arms and eyes. You'll find the telltale sign of what he's about to do. Lucario, you should keep going at it. Your strength is stable! Try to suddenly increase your speed rather than power to shake things up. Show him your quirk, but don't be serious. Remember, he's a human.
And finally, Agate would run outside the town to look for Schera. Although Agate doesn't looks like it, he's quite speedy himself. If he have to say, he won't lose to speed of a Ranger in Training. He looked at the older boy and called Schera. "Alright, I got final test for you guys. This is to test your reflex. Schera, Air Cutter!"
He wasn't attacking the two, but it's probably also quite bad too, as what Schera aimed for was to slash at a piece of a rock formation, slashing it clean and sending it tumbling downward. She of course made sure that no one was in the line. "This is the test. Assume that is a rolling huge boulder... and you need to act fast, what would you do?"
...He hope that they knew, and would work fast with each other. Reactive speed is the most important here. [WC: 339] 0xw9xI|| -Final Roll-
Machamp is quick to fall into step. He jabs at the blocks in just the right places to knock them away, making use of his four arms to worm his way out of situations that'd normally end a game of Jenga right then and there. At times a few pieces of debris bounce toward the dolls, but no major crashes here!
The Lucario takes the initiative, using his aura to shift his speed and set up some incredibly surprising attacks. While Agate warns him not to be serious, he's certainly getting in some liberal showing off time. Hopefully it doesn't stress his human out too much!
Blaziken practically scoops his trainer up bridal style, using his powerful legs to leap high into the air. He reflexively goes to attack back, but his trainer stretches out a hand to frantically stop him. Attacking the trainer was not an appropriate use of training time!
Right, that was all. Agate clapped his hands together, but of course not before calling Schera back to her Pokeball. He guided the Ranger-in-training and his Blaziken to the rest. Afterward, he addressed the trio. "Our training here is done. It's only two days, and granted, it wasn't all easy, but you guys did very well, and for that, I thank you very much for following my strange and unorthodox training method. Admittedly, I have no idea if my training has been tested... but all of my training, I make it in hope that you guys will start connecting your heart with your Pokemon. When you're training, do know that Pokemons aren't just animals for cockfighting, or one that you capture just for collecting. They have their will, and the key to everything is a trust. Work together with your Pokemon and they'll be an ally to you.
But I don't think I need to tell this to any of you. You guys are doing stellar, although I must admit sometimes you got swept by the flow because you suddenly got strong Pokemon, heh. There's nothing wrong in being happy because you get strong Pokemons... but remember to not overly relying them to point of them being a crutch. And you guys will be fine."
and now, with everything done and said...
"Thank you very much for your hard work! If you guys need any of my help, I'll help you guys again! This training has been quite the amazing experience for me!"
And with that, Agate left the neighborhood. <Thread Finished> WC: 260
