[attr="class","curragepost"] Hm...? Oh! Oh good. So Levy wasn't his lover. N-not that that would've been a problem! In fact, a sibling bond should have been just as 'threatening' if anything was going to be threatening, which it wasn't, because this was! Fine!! But she digressed.
"Awww, that sounds like a real jerk move. I'm glad Elise was there to help." Highlighting someone's disability like that just seemed mean. Unless maybe it was meant to go an empowering route, but even that could get into 'inspiration porn', and certainly was not okay when the person involved wasn't fully behind the idea! So yeah.
"Ooh, Mega Evolution, huh?" How neat! "I haven't seen it very often in person. Back in Galar I saw some Gigantamax Pokemon, and I've heard Pokemon in Arciel can achieve the same forms but smaller. But yeah neat!" Hiro sounded as tough as his reputation said, and she added, "I wish you luck if you try again!"
But then it went on to his own stage fright, surprising Callie a bit. Then again, it couldn't be as bad as hers if he was still willing to do stuff on stage. Still, he went on, and eventually came up with an idea? She blinked at it a moment, then snorted lightly. "N-nah, I don't think that'd really help." She shifted Sugar to one arm and reached up to hold one large pigtail. "I'd have to hide this whole mess of hair, too, and there's a little too much of it to fit under a wig, so it's cut it, which I don't wanna, or do something kind of silly, which would just draw even more attention. Plus even then my friends might recognize my voice, so." She chuckled softly. "Yeah, costumes are fun but wouldn't really help. It was a sweet thought though!"

Darn. And here Elliot thought that was a good idea. Nevertheless, it seemed like there were just too many logistical issues for the Masked Singer approach to work. "I mean, they'd certainly be there, so I wouldn't be surprised if they recognized you," Elliot said. "I know Else has had her role in this locked down since, like. A month ago. The first time I met her actually was while she was practicing. And I've been helping Levy work on her routine, too. So I know they're at least going to be there." Would that face help Callie, knowing she could rely on the love and support of at least half of her girls? Or would the fact just make her even more nervous? Elliot wasn't quite sure, but he figured he owed it to Callie to at least state the facts.
"That said, you're right. Is there anything that helps you feel more comfortable when performing? Even if its just singing and dancing for yourself?" he asked. Only to blush a little and shake his head. "I-if you want to think about that kind of thing, of course. You definitely don't have to if you don't want to! This is all about your comfort, after all. But, hey. As your assistant, part of my job would be looking for opportunities and planning out the best way that you guys can tackle them, right? And as a friend, there's nothing more I'd want to see you guys happy. So if there is anything I can do to help, I'd be more than happy to." And he tied it back into the job interview! This kid was on fire!
That said, his eyes were warm and patient, and the smile on his face was rather subdued. From his expression and body language, it was at least clear he wouldn't be the type to force issues. "No pressure, though. If you'd really rather give the showcase a pass for this month, we can talk about something else," he added.
[attr="class","curragepost"] Awwww. Elliot really was a sweetheart, wasn't he? The more they talked, the more she understood why the girls liked him. She nodded at the bit about the girls practicing. She knew Elise was raring to go and Levy had been thinking about it, though she hadn't heard from Ara or Eliza on the matter. Whether that was due to her feared growing apart of just because they didn't have strong feelings about it or were even trying to keep their participation under wraps for some reason, Callie didn't know, but she didn't dwell on it.
But hm... "Ah... No, I mean... As scared as I am, there is a big part of me that would love to be able to join the girls on stage someday. So even if I don't do this showcase," which she was sure she wouldn't, "it doesn't hurt to think about things that might help at least, right?" She touched a finger to her face thoughtfully. "Hmmm... I guess I do always feel better when performing with others. Like, Ara's the lead dancer, you know? So usually she comes up with the choreography. But sometimes I'll suggest a move or an adjustment, and if I have to demonstrate on my own I feel a little shy and silly, even though it's just in front of my girls. But if Ara and I come up with something together to show the others, then I'm great!" She smiled sweetly.
"And it helps when the audience isn't that big, or is just people I know. Like I'm sure I could probably sing now in front of just you because you're not a crowd, but it's just Different, ya know?"

Elliot nodded. Performing together. That made sense. "I'd offer to go up with you if it was okay with the rules. But I think this showcase specified one participant at a time," Elliot remarked, huffing a little. Then he perked up as he realized. "Oh! But your Pokemon are gonna be on there too, right? There's no way you can be alone when you have a bunch of your best friends by your side like that. I understand if its different compared to having other humans up there with you, though." So that was another possible idea for the drawing board. "Still, I get what you mean. So that could be one strategy. Like, I could work on a little impromptu performance, and you could show me how you'd do it instead. You could probably put together a whole routine like that!"
The audience was a good point too. Elliot nodded. "Yeah. The runway and the gym weren't like anything I've ever seen before," he admitted. "Once I actually got started, it was easy to let myself get swept up in the excitement. But until then? Well, I may've paced around in front of Bass City's gym at least three times before finally working up the nerve to go in. Heck, remember. I wouldn't even be doing this right now if I got the right website link. I would've just been in the audience, cheering my heart out. But . . . I'm here now, right? So why not?"
At Callie's "probably", Elliot couldn't help but smile softly. "Do you think you could? I bet you have a really nice singing voice," he said.
[attr="class","curragepost"] Callie blinked a moment, but then nodded firmly. "Y-yeah! Good point! I guess in a Showcase, the Pokemon are the real stars, huh? So the audience should be watching them more than the trainer." That... almost didn't sound terrible. But the audience still WOULD see the trainer, especially if they messed up terribly, whoops. At that thought, a blush came over her face. "They'd uh... definitely notice if a trainer tripped and fell or something though..."
Elliot's pre-Gym nerves were terribly relatable, but the rest. "Heh, I wish I could just get caught up in the moment like that. Would make things a lot easier, that's for sure!" Of course, she wasn't... 100% sure she wouldn't, given she rarely tried anything up to the point it might work, but still.
"Hm?" Oh, she'd been hypothetical, but now Elliot was asking her to sing? "Um. S-sure! Yeah I could... probably do that." Again with the probably. But still, she set Sugar down, then pulled up the plush rabbit that hung from her neck and turned it around to reveal the front of her phone in the unconventional case. She pulled up her song library and debated which track to play. ...Hmmm... Maybe that one? It wasn't done, but... Sure, why not? She clicked, and music began to play.
She nodded to the beat, getting in the zone, until the 22 second mark, when she began to sing. "Butterfli-ies and unico-orns and sunny da-ays and rainbow glitter. Wishes made on dandelions and all the things that make your heart flitter. You know that if I could, if I had the power, I'd steal the moon and give it to ya. I know you try to hide your heart's desires, but I know you and I see through ya. Stop pretending, don't try to hide now, I know you've got to feel this feeling. Cause it's killing me, trying to get by, holding all this in, and not revealing...
"Heart swollen, now my heart's stolen. The light's fading, it's the end! You're too much! Die without your touch! It's forbidden, my best friend! Known too long, know it must be wrong, to see you like this. Make this end! Can't dismiss, how I want your kiss. All these feelings, they transcend!"
8uFuK_bup_
After Callie had belted this out, the music continued, but she smiled sheepishly before stopping it. "I've uh... still gotta write the second verse, but that's a work in progress for an upcoming PNG song..." Knowing this was perhaps a silly question, she still asked, "Wwwwhat'd you think?"

By the end of Callie's song, Elliot's jaw dropped to the floor. He knew she had to be talented. She was a Pixie Nightmare Girl, after all! But the earnestness in her voice, her deep understanding of the lyrics (after all, she wrote them herself!), and the way she seemed to loosen up as she got into the zone elevated it to a breathtaking performance. Frankly, Elliot had to clench his walking stick hard to avoid visibly swooning in front of the poor girl. And here he thought he was over being starstruck by the girls. Getting a direct, one to one performance from one was a completely different story from just meeting a friend at a cafe!
"T-that was, uh," Elliot stammered, feeling the hot rush of a blush spreading across his face. "I mean, you're. Like, I think. Well, you know. It was just." Elliot, pick a sentence and stick with it already! Callie's performance must have friend the part of his brain that put words in front of other words to form coherent thoughts. He closed his eyes, drumming his fingers on his walking stick and trying his best not to let the blush keep seeping into his head.
Finally, he cleared his head enough to start talking again. "You've got an amazing voice," he squeaked out. "And I can tell you put so much love and thought into those lyrics. For a work in progress that hasn't gotten the full production treatment, you didn't miss a beat on the rehearsal, either. How could I think you did anything but an incredible job? And now I can't wait to hear how you and the girls pull off the second verse."
Immediately he blinked, shaking his head a little. "T-that wasn't too much, was it?" he asked. "Since, y'know. My goal here's to make you less nervous. Not more."
[attr="class","curragepost"] Oh um... Oh wow... He was really a mess, wasn't he? She did that? Made him that flustered? Calliope returned his blush with a lighter one of her own, violet eyes shifting to the ground and one foot kicking lightly at the dirt until he could form a real thought, and even a little after that. "O-oh um, I mean it's still pretty rough," she insisted. "We might change some lyrics in the first verse still, too. But I've just um... wanted a song like this for a while, I guess, so, y-yeah..." Oh, had she said too much? Um, moving on quickly now!
"So don't worry, it didn't make me more nervous, just um, flattered I guess." She looked back up enough to meet the small boy's gaze and smile at him. "Though I guess um, if you think my voice is THAT good, it might be a point AGAINST trying the showcase, huh? After all, wouldn't wanna steal the show from my hard-working Pokemon," she teased herself. As if she could if she tried, haha. A pretty voice was hardly a match for a nine-tailed fox breathing fire, after all!

Elliot wasn't surprised that Callie was downplaying the song. Not only was she rather shy, but writers were always hardest on their own material. "It sounds like the song's pretty significant to you, huh?" Elliot said. "I can respect that. I haven't really found a cosplay that speaks to me that strongly yet. But I know if I did, I'd do anything and everything in my power to make it perfect, y'know? I can tell that you're putting similar effort into that song. And I think that's something really wonderful." It was hard not to smile through the blush as he talked through the thought. There was nothing Elliot loved more than seeing people light up over their passions. What could describe that better than a song straight from the heart, being worked on by a bashful yet talented perfectionist?
That said, he couldn't help but giggle at Calliope's tease. "If anything, it's twice the point in your favor," Elliot pointed out. "Lyrical singing is something a Pokemon just can't do, you know? I mean. Maybe if you have a Chatot, or a particularly talented Rotom phone. Actually, hold on, there are probably some really amazing performances you could pull off with a singing Rotom Phone." Elliot, no! You're getting distracted on a ramble again! He quickly shook the thought off. "But, regardless. There's a lot Pokemon can do that humans can't. But lyrical singing's really something unique and special to you in this case. That means you can let them focus on getting the face time or working on the choreography, while you can spend most of it handling the singing instead. That way you're both playing to your biggest talents, and you don't need to feel so in the spotlight.
Oh! Oh! And if you focus on your Pokemon, instead of the crowd, maybe that can help you feel a bit more confident. Like, that way, instead of performing in front of a lot of people, instead you're performing for just six of them!" Elliot, that logic was questionable at best and you know it!
[attr="class","curragepost"] Callie continued to blush as Elliot gushed further, only to perk up a little in confusion when he started on about Rotom Phones. As he forced himself back on track, though, she giggled softly. She could relate to that kind of scatterbrained thinking.
But as he went on... She blinked slowly. He was... actually making a lot of sense! Wait, was she starting to consider this? Of course not! This was all hypothetical, right? She laughed nervously. "True, that might help... I know I can perform when it's just a few Pokemon watching... B-but!" She couldn't let him think she was fully on board here or anything. "What if I mess up? Just because I don't think about the people watching doesn't mean they wouldn't see! Or arguably worse? What if I do great, but it's still terrifying, and then people expect me to do that kind of thing all the time because I've done it before!"

Elliot smiled, taking out his phone and scrolling through the Chuutube archives. "Here. Lemme show you something," Elliot said, brow knit in concentration as he looked for the right video. After checking through a few gym challenger videos, he perked up in recognition. "Ha! There we go!" he said, handing the phone over to Callie.
The footage was Elliot's pre-gym trial, the massive aquatic obstacle course immediately recognizable as Bass City's gym. In literally the first five seconds of Elliot's video, he slipped on some water at the lip of the entrance and fell right into the water. "I failed literally seconds into my trial. Honestly, it was so embarrassing that I kinda wanted to stay in the water so nobody had to look at me." Next came his most successful leg of the trial, where he almost made it to the pool's end. Then his leg buckled right on the last hurdle and he fell into the water, so stunned that he could barely bring himself to get back into the action. "Then I failed literally inches away from success. And in that moment, I knew I was going to leave the gym without even finishing my challenge.
But, then. I realized I wasn't alone, you know? My Pokemon needed my support, and I didn't want to let them down. The audience had come for a show, and I didn't want to leave them with some guy bobbing in a pool feeling sorry for himself. And there were friends who came to support me that I couldn't imagine turning my back on." Elise and Levy's cheers were all too noticeable as Elliot spoke, the camera panning over to them as if in disbelief. "And when I decided not to give up, something beautiful happened." The rest of the gym battle unfolded for Callie, or at least as much as she wanted to see. The crowd went from unsure about Elliot to cheering uproariously at him and Hiro's antics. Even though Elliot came up short at the last moment, he had forced even a Mega Evolved Pokemon to exert itself before securing the win. And he had managed to secure the respect of the gym leader, who had thoroughly enjoyed their match.
"It's okay if we're not perfect. Perfection isn't what this is all about, you know?" Elliot said as the footage came to an end. "It's about following your heart. It's about making your dreams come true, for both you and your Pokemon. It's about doing something you never imagined was possible before, and feeling like the best you that you could ever be. And if that song showed me anything, it's that your heart, dreams, and imagination are all more than ready to rise up to the challenge."
He smiled softly. "Sometimes, the hardest step we can take is the first one. Maybe if you do too good, you'll find out you like it more than you could've expected," he suggested. "Or maybe you'll decide its not for you. And its okay if you need to bow out. You have a full-time job as a manager and lyricist, right? All you need to do is say you can't split your time on both, and that's completely okay! If your fans are fans for the right reasons, they'll support and understand you. Especially when you're a big part of why this is all possible in the first place."
[attr="class","curragepost"] "Hm?" Callie stepped over and leaned down a bit to see whatever Elliot was looking up. Oh! Was that the Bass Gym? She recognized it from tv. But.. oh! That was Elliot-- and OOF. She cringed, almost wanting to turn away but telling herself Elliot wouldn't like that, nor would he bring out his phone just to show her an epic wipeout, probably.
And then he fell AGAIN, and she whimpered softly, but... wait she knew those voices! Oh no, Elise and Levy were looking so cute that day as they cheered him on. That alone would have been worth it to her, but... Of course one couldn't really fail Hiro's challenge as long as they didn't give up, so in time Elliot move on, and... oh! Oh wow, he was surprisingly good at battling? She lost track of time a little as she zoned into watching. Oh gosh, that was a Giganta-- er, Mega Lapras! How beautiful!
And then Elliot went on to become stupidly inspiring somehow, and Callie found herself tearing up again, for very different reasons than before! "I..." She choked up a little."You know what...? You're right. You're... you're absolutely right!" They didn't have to do a perfect job to have fun. And it wasn't like most fans really knew her as part of PNG, so she didn't care too much what they thought. And it wasn't like her girls would actually pressure her if she wanted to back out after one performance. "I'd be way too scared to join the girls on stage right now. What if I mess them up and make them look bad? It's not just about me, then, but about how the whole band looks. But..." Gosh this was a big but. But she liked this big but, and she could not lie. "With a showcase, it's just a stand-alone thing, right? Just one and done... And just me and my Pokemon, so... If there was ever a good first step to see if I can do stuff on stage, then... this would be it... right?" Her eyes were glistening with both held back tears and hope.
Post by Elliot Sunderland on May 24, 2020 1:42:05 GMT
Elliot felt a sharp pain in his heart as Callie started crying. However, before he could reach out to say something, she let him know that he was right. These were happy tears, weren't they? Softly, Elliot's smile spread back across his face. "Exactly!" he chirped. "It's just you and your Pokemon there. And while the girls are going to be there, it won't be to put any stress on you. It'll be to lift you up higher, because they'll be right by your side believing in you all the while. You'll be out there on your own. But you won't be alone in any sense of the word.
Besides, you already took the first step. You sang that song, right? Sure, that was just to me. But it doesn't matter how small a first step is. It's still a first step." Elliot was just firing inspiration on all cylinders today, wasn't he? Maybe it was a good thing that Callie had found him during such an introspective mood. Would he even be capable of this kind of thinking otherwise?
"I'm not just going to leave you hanging on sweet words, either," Elliot said. "I mean. I am right over in Bass City, after all. If you need a hand on workshopping your material, or getting some fresh eyes on your practice, or just want to spend some time with someone to get the edge off, I'd be happy to pop over and give you a hand." Honestly, by this point Elliot had forgotten about the interview! He just wanted to take some time and help out his new friend.
[attr="class","curragepost"] Callie sniffled a bit as she tried to dry her tears. He was right, he really was! Though the part about the girls lifting her up wouldn't exactly be true if she didn't tell them just in case she chickened out, but it wouldn't exactly be false either, because she knew they'd support her in anything no matter what.
She laughed softly when he said she'd already taken a step. "I mean... if that counts, so does all my practice with the girls and for my family and all that stuff," she pointed out. "But I guess if that's the case you could say I've taken a lot of baby steps already! Maybe it IS time for a little bit bigger step."
When he said he'd help, she couldn't help but light up a little. "Yeah??" Callie had nearly forgotten the interview too, but remembered it now as she thought of him helping out. "You know what...? You're such a sweet kid, and you seem really smart. Let's just say... you can be my trial assistant starting as soon as you're ready!" she announced. "If you do a good job you'll become my permanent assistant, and if not, well, you can fill the role until I find a replacement. Sound good?"

"Exactly!" Elliot chirped. "Every little hope, every little dream, every little fear, every little worry, every little practice, every little event, every little song, every little dance. It all added up to this point. And after all those steps, some big and some small, I bet you've covered more distance than you could ever know." It seemed like the girl was getting ready for this showcase after all! Elliot couldn't help but beam with pride. To have just met somebody, and yet already made such a big impact on their life . . .
This was why he went on his journey in the first place.
That said, he may've had more chances to much such impact in the future. As Callie made her offer, Elliot gasped in shock. "Wait, really? Seriously?" he asked, voice shrinking to barely a whisper. He blinked a few times, as if trying to process it all. And then he broke into an ear to ear smile. "That's so awesome! Thank you so, so, so much, Callie!" he cheered, needing to pretty much resist the urge to launch into the poor girl for a hug. "I'll start right away! And ohhhh, I can't wait to start helping out! Oh man, and I have a job now, too. I can't wait to tell Le-"
Oof. Right. Conflict of interest. "Or maybe I should stay anonymous until the trial period's over," Elliot said, after taking more than zero seconds to think about it. "Then if I do prove right for the job, we can celebrate more permanently. And if I don't end up a good fit, they don't have to know a thing. That seems nice and fair, right?
Oooh! Do I come up with an alias? Or do you just say 'temporary assistant' and leave it at that?" Elliot kinda wanted to make an alias.
Nevertheless, the two weren't alone. A stream of . . . probably not curses came flying out of the bushes. "Dang nabbit! Frickle-frack! Mother of butts!" It was hard not to find the un-minced oaths adorable, but if someone was launching off a whole string of them they either seriously needed a hand or were a recovering pottymouth.
Once more, Elliot turned towards Callie. "Should we try and see what's going on?" he asked. She was his boss! It was her decision!
[attr="class","curragepost"] He was right! He was just so absolutely right, and Callie in her emotional state was starting to get almost excited despite how extremely nervous the thought still made her. How could she not want to hire him?
Fortunately, he had the foresight to think about how the girls might react if she hired him, and worse, if she wound up firing him. "Hmm... Yeah, we should probably wait to tell them," she agreed.
When he suggested an alias, she giggled. "Nah, I probably won't have much more if any free time while training you, anyway, so I just won't tell them anything yet. I mean if you don't work out AND I can't find a good replacement then I got their hopes up for nothing, right? Not that I think that'll happen! But best to be safe."
Just after, someone nearby started yelling. "Hm?" Elliot suggested they check it out, and Callie nodded. Before they could head too far that way, though, a Roselia emerged from the bushes, being chased by a woman with an even more punk aesthetic than PNG.
"Get back here, you little son of a biscuit!" she cried. The Roselia did stop a moment, looking back to her, then LUNGED in to press a flower into her face before immediately bouncing off and running off again, giggling. The woman stopped, sniffling a second before letting out a loud sneeze at the pollen stuffed in her face. "Dagnab little buttmonkey!" Her attention turned sharply toward the other humans. "You two!" Callie straightened up to attention at being called out. "Help me wrangle that nasty little booger! He's been causing a ruckus on my family's farm for a week!"

Elliot smiled softly at the vote of confidence tucked into her statement. "I appreciate it. Thank you," Elliot said. "I'm usually pretty good on free time these days. And Echo can teleport me pretty much wherever I might need to go. So feel free to call me up anytime, okay? Even if I'm out and busy, it should take me five minutes tops to get over to you." Instant access! Now wasn't that a convenient feature of any assistant? If Elliot could do as much to convince Callie as this narrator was, he'd be getting the job in no time!
But now wasn't the time for talk. Now was the time for action! A Roselia was chasing down a punky looking girl, giving her a fistful of allergies before running off. Elliot cringed sympathetically. The few times he was subject to allergies, he hated every moment of it! Much like Callie, Elliot straightened up in attention as he was called on, but unlike Callie he was quick to snap into action. "Echo! You know what to do!" Elliot called, pointing dramatically towards the struggle.
Echo reached into Elliot's backpack, pulled out a tissue, and teleported over to the girl. Okay. So maybe that wasn't the action she was thinking. But judging by the thumbs up Elliot flashed his starter, it was exactly what Elliot was considering! With his assistance out of the way, Elliot turned to the Roselia. He fished around in his Pokeballs, trying to find who'd be a good send here. Murex and Curly were weak to this type . . . Oathkeeper was far too weak . . . Elliot was also far too weak, but that didn't stop him from scuttling up to the Roselia with narrowed, focused eyes.
He chuckled in, leaned down, and let out a cry akin to a "BOO!" Elliot immediately squeaked in terror, scuttling up to his identically-named trainer. He shivered, Elliot leaning down to gently scoop him up. "Sssh, sssh, it's okay," Elliot said, voice warm and hushed. "This one's a bit too much for you. But I think we've got just the Pokemon to help. So sit tight and watch, okay? If this goes wrong, he'll be able to teach you a lot about battling.
Come on out, Lord Beerus!" Elliot flung the Ultra Ball out, his Espeon letting out a tired, disinterested yawn. He sure didn't look like a Pokemon that knew a lot about battling . . . yet as the Roselia shot Lord Beerus a few taunting cries, his eye eased open in interest. He studied the Roselia carefully, all while the Roselia waited to see if he'd actually do anything.
Before any battling could go down, Elliot cautiously took a step forward. "Now, let's not doing anything rash. He's a bit of a troublemaker, but I'm sure he can be reasoned wi-" The Roselia promptly leaped forward, smooshing one flower into Elliot's face, then the other. He staggered back, coughing and sneezing, and the Roselia laughed in triumph. All the while, Lord Beerus watched, never blinking.
Were it not for the soft glow in his eyes, it'd be impossible to tell that he had just hoisted the Roselia into the air with psychic energy, tossing it skywards. The powerful Psychic-type attack was just a warning shot, but it was clearly one that the Roselia was ready for. He landed in a perfect three point stance, grinning ear to ear. This was going to be a lot more fun than picking on some punk girl!
A cold wind blew between the two, and then the Roselia charged forward. Looks like we had a fight on our hands tonight!
[attr="class","curragepost"] Lilo blinked a few times as the boy's Ralts teleported over to her with tissue in hand. "Er... Thanks?" Not the help she had expected or wanted, but... Ugh. Sniffling again, she did take it and blow her nose before wiping her eyes with the back of her hand.
As Pokemon!Elliot tried his best, Callie and Lilo both watched with varying levels of cringe. Welp... "Good try!" Callie tried to encourage him, though she was glad to see Lord Beerus take his place. The Espeon looked like he might not battle at all, but once he did start, Callie suspected he'd make short work of the Roselia.
"YEAH!!" Lilo cheered, finally getting what she was after. "Show that little buttmunch who's boss, Lord Whatever Your Name Was!!"
Callie snortlaughed lightly. "Beerus," she informed the other girl. Oh... Oh no the whole punk look and the non-cursing was actually kind of cute?? Ugh Callie don't go getting all blushy NOW, c'mon. "C-c'mon Elliot! You can do it Beerus!" she cheered to keep her mind off it.

Lord Beerus swished his tails dismissively at the praise. Oh, it was music to his ears, but that was hardly the point right about now. No, the point here was that the Roselia had ticked him off, and now they were going to battle. His eyes and gem began to glow as the air around the Roselia started to shimmer.
Unfortunately, unlike the near-invisible Confusion, Psychic was powerful enough to cause visibly colored ripples. Roselia was able to roll through the barrage nearly as quickly as Lord Beerus could fire it off, almost making a show out of how narrowly he could avoid the danger. Lord Beerus grit his teeth at the spectacle, and his tail promptly stopped swishing. Now it was time to get serious. The Roselia approached him, thrusting out his blue flower and launching a barrage of seeds from it.
One second, Lord Beerus was right in the path of the attack. The next, he had blurred behind the Roselia. His Quick Attack meant that the Roselia was now trapped between Lord Beerus and the assembled humans. Maybe they were useful for something, after all; their legs blocked off any of the Roselia's escape routes. He lifted a paw, his Quick Attack connecting as he knocked the Roselia into the ground. For all of his show and bravado, he had crumpled in just a single hit. Tossing his head, Lord Beerus slowly strutted over towards the fallen plant.
That was when he hopped to his feet, launching a shower of sweet pollen from his red flower. Lord Beerus had fallen hook, line, and sinker for its attempt at playing possum! The Espeon stumbled back, batting at his eyes to try and rub the pollen out, only to feel a great fatigue weighing down on him. While he tried to handle the Roselia's Sweet Scent, the tricky flower had started sapping his energy with Giga Drain! It was a fast acting technique, and one that Lord Beerus knew would be trouble if it could take hold uninterrupted.
Fortunately, Lord Beerus had one last trick up his sleeve. He flicked his tail towards Roselia, launching the same pollen right towards his face. Now it was the Roselia's turn to stumble back, eyes wide as he took in his own scent for the first time. He was gorgeous! He was aromatic! He was . . . was . . .
Currently caught in a psychic vice grip. Oh, no.
Lord Beerus smirked as his psychic hold settled on the Roselia. Once more, he flicked the Roselia upwards, the Roselia much less prepared to dodge the attack this time. He tumbled through the air, a flower resting on his head as he tried to right his path. Yet it simply wasn't to be. He tumbled gracelessly on the way down, scrambling to find his footing.
A pity that the only footing he found was Lord Beerus' shoulder. He blurred forward in another Quick Attack, slamming the Roselia hard enough to send it tumbling to the ground. The grass type slid against a tree, gritting his teeth as he eased himself to his feet. A shadow loomed over him; surely that Espeon again. A Leech Seed would take care of him!
Unfortunately, Roselia's target wasn't a Pokemon whose energy he could sap. Instead, it was an Elliot, who looked ridiculous when the tangled mass of seeds and vines slapped him right in the face. "You're really a spirited one, huh?" Elliot asked. "And you've got the talent to boot. A Pokemon like you doesn't need to be stealing berries from farmers just to be getting by, y'know? With your skill in a fight, you could be a game changer for gym battles. And with your flair for the dramatic, I'm sure you could make a huge impact on the contest stage. Think about it. The fame. The adoration. The ability to have crowds doting on your every want. That all sounds way more fun than stealing, right?"
He unhooked an Ultra Ball from his pocket, offering it towards the Roselia. "What do you say? Interested?"
