Juni squinted, her brows knitting together. Pyre looked down awkwardly and shuffled from one foot to the other. He was luckily smaller than her and therefore could completely avoid her gaze with the right head alignment, but he was unlucky in that he was under her scrutiny at all at the moment.
“How have you not learned Mirror Move yet?” Juni frowned softly. “I swear Buddy learned it…” But that had been years ago now, and she was almost wondering if her brain had made it up on the fly. Muttering to herself as she looked down at her Pokemon app and scrolled through it, Juni guessed Blaziken didn’t actually learn that move but… but why did she have such vivid memories of this? “I’m sure you can….” She was pretty sure she’d used it as a rebuttal to a dragon move before, right? She wasn’t just making this up, right?
Hm, maybe she’d have more luck asking the genetics folks at work. Looking up from Pyre, Juni looked around her house briefly and wondered aloud… “Derby, hey do you remember Torchic’s line ever learning Mirror Move?” she called knowing the other woman was probably busy.

Derby was so close to figuring out the proper inner-workings of the new prosthetic ear she was designing for one of her online clients, they had wanted it in some weird shape and she was trying her best to figure out how to replicate some sort of mock-eardrum. Papers littered her room with scrapped designers, some burnt by Bender after he'd decided there was a few too many papers in the room and tried his best to help her clean-up. Charcoal pencil in her hand the girl was belly down in the middle of her sorry excuse for a bedroom, scribbling at a scrap of paper with a laptop posed slightly to the left of her.
The girl was so concentrated that Juni's voice practically went in one ear and out the other, registered as background noise and forgotten about. It wasn't under Bender had begun yipping and lightly tugging on the sleeve of her trackies that Derby looked up, a tired, almost disgruntled expression on her face. "Oi." Another yip. Derby squinted at the fire type, whos little tail wiggled behind him, he had her attention!
Towards the door now, he pawed at it and yipped again. Errr... Oh! Maybe he'd heard somethin'? Derby all but forced herself up from her position, rolling her shoulders abck and ignoring the crack that followed. How long had it been since sh'ed left the room? She didn't know. To her door, she peeked through the open gap sticking her head out. "Ergh... Didya say somethin', Juni?" A blink as she adjusted to a sight that wasn't her room, honing in on the red-headed woman. "Was' up?"

Juni sighed and ruffled her own hair some in vague frustration. She knew that Derby was busy and probably had plenty of projects of her ow, but this was frustrating her and clearly took precedence. “Derby!” she called again. From behind the door, she could hear something, and Juni was tempted to walk over and open it but… but if anything she didn’t actually want to disturb her housemate in any sort of private setting. So. Ugh.
Looking back at Pyre again, Juni squinted. “I bet you do learn Mirror Move somehow… why don’t you try it… Think… Flying thoughts or something…” she encouraged. Pyre was not entirely sure what ‘Flying’ thoughts were supposed to be. He knew things like Peck, but that came a lot more naturally than like??? Anything else???? He stretched and focused, and Juni frowned back thoughtfully.
This was immediately cut off when Derby opened the door. “Ah, hey, I ….do you remember the Torchic line learning Mirror Move? I can’t figure out why Pyre hasn’t learned it already…” The Blaziken made a small wave over to Derby.

...Mirror move? Derby shifted out of her doorway, leaning against the wall next to it instead as a hand pushed through her hair. Aw, shit. Eyes seemed to scrutinise the Blaziken for a moment or two in thought. Derby... really wasn't a moves expert, like, she knew pokemon anatomy to a damn T and if given the chance she would probably have to start doing tests that specific moves work with her prosthetics and don't up and ruin. "....Ehhh..." There was a small shift, "I mean... I don' remember?" A hand idly scratched at her tank top and she decided it'd probably be best to kinda go over towards the pair rather then awkwardly linger in her doorway. Exhaustion crept off the women in waves, and if you were really focused you could smell the scent of burning paper just briefly linger. She squinted once more at the pokemon, as if analysing a joint, before pulling back and letting her hands rest on her hips. "I mean... he hassa good enough bone structure for it..." An eyebrow quirked slightly, "...Have ya ever tried chuugle, Juni?"

At Derby’s slow response, Juni gave a low groan back. Checking her phone again, she scratched the side of her head and felt through her hair. Pyre struck a bit of a pose but wasn’t exactly sure if that was properly Flying or not. Maybe it was kind of like Peck? He used to know that, but it hadn’t been as useful in a long while as other moves. Juni, meanwhile, chewed the inside of her mouth more as she flipped through her phone.
“Yeah, I’ve looked through a few different websites through Chuugle, but it’s like—“ Juni stopped short, her eyes and eyebrows slowly raising up in realization. “It might be a Pokemon evolution thing… some Pokemon never learn moves due to evolving too early… we see it most of the time in …. Stone evolution…” But Pyre was a Blazziken. He wasn’t a Flareon or Chandelure or any number of Pokemon whose movesets were barred by their younger kin. “I… wonder if he missed the chance as a Torchic…” That would suck. That would suck so much.
… “Pyre, stand like this?” Juni asked mimicking what old Buddy used to do when performing Mirror Move. It was a spread leg maneuver and then arms in front. Pyre mimicked it awkwardly and stared up at her uncertainly.

A pokemon evolution thing… Derby blinked. Yeah, this wasn’t her strong suit, like, at all. “I mean I doubt you’d have missed the chance to give ‘em the move when he was a torchic.” The girl took that time to rake a hand over the side of her face, only then realizing the state she was in. A little dishevelled, a little sweaty- a lot sweaty… ah, ya that was oil.She kept an eye on Juni as she slipped her way into the kitchen, grabbing a napkin and leaning over the bench to watch her as she dabbed on her face. “If it’ll help any, I ‘an bring my flameflower over and see if Pyre reacts to it, might spike adrenaline and have like an instan’ response- fight or flight.” Or… yeah… maybe a flamethrower wasn’t a good idea. She couldn’t help but chuckle as Juni attempted to guide Pyre into his own stance that the move is used in, however.“Maybe ya gotta get him in the fightin’ mood?”’
