Stretching both arms up overhead, Sid leaned one way and then the other. Their specially designed ergonomic gaming chair kept them from a good amount of spinal tension but nowhere near all of it. They’d been working rather hard for an MMO event, making sure to claim all the prizes they could in the allotted time window. Now with that done, however, they were ready for bed.
That was, at least, until they noticed a message from Haku blinking in the corner of their screen. Eh, might as well see what he’s up to… Sid tabbed over and found several emojis awaiting. Haku had managed to publish his recent project and was now working on a smaller game, something to do with— farming? Oh Gaki would love this… But Gaki was knees deep in getting her newest magical girls fixation met. Maybe if it works well, I’ll have her test it out after… They agreed to try it out and were immediately sent some files to download. Hm… Some of the security features were a little strange on this one. It should be fine, though. I trust Haku. Clicking through them, they started up the home screen of the game.
A cute little anime girl posed on startup, a sickle across her shoulders and a determined look on her face. Sid felt their lips twitch as they clicked the new game screen. Hopefully there would be an NB choice, right? Oh, right, this is Haku. Yes of course. They were pleasantly surprised again by the range of styles and fashions afforded to the player and quickly selected something cute an androgynous for themselves. Thereafter they got to the cut screen of how the player was starting a farm: generic as could be but still nice and readable. Once there, they found themselves at the front of the farm. Nice. Time to click around.

Nothing happened! All rolls were passed. Sidney Ridley You actually have a pretty decent selection of crops to start out planting! Isn't it great when the staff developers of a site game give you a good starting assortment to work with? Farming'd be way less convenient otherwise! Wink wink, nudge nudge. Cough.

Flipping through their inventory, Sid had to pause at the sight of the numerous items already ready and raring to go. That was… nice, they supposed, though they still messaged Haku about it in case this was actually a bug in the inventory system. Clicking around, they walked into the old barn area and then the chicken coup each of which displayed the message that they needed repairs before becoming functional. Ahh, so that was the given and take… Considering crops were cheaper and animal items were more work, they supped it made sense to get the plants going first.
Grabbing their level 1 sickle, they walked over to a little plot of visually plowable land and started up. It worked once, twice, a third time, and soon they were planting what crops they had available for Spring season and then going back to stash the rest… somewhere, hm. They clicked into the house, clicked around a couple of display furniture and read the text before documenting some grammatical errors and sending that to Haku as well before finally finding the trunk where they could store extra supplies. The drag and drop system was a little laggy, but overall, it wasn’t too bad. They supposed with that, it was time to check out the other areas and meet the local NPCs.

As soon as their little avatar transitioned to the next area, the town adjacent to their farm, Sid found another avatar waiting. It was an objectively cute girl with short purple hair with a ribbon in it and adorable blue eyes. She wore what appeared to be overall, so they guessed that—
Oh. Oh no. The short little animation of her falling was oddly adorable, and Sid reached up to cover their face in partial embarrassment. Haku had really gone out of his way to make her that cute, didn’t he? As the action list came up, Sid was quick to select the option to help her up. The NPC screen seemed to glitch a little but didn’t stall long.
As she started to introduce herself, a text box showed up and… You can name her? Why? They paused considering a name before typing one in. Right after, Sid knew why. This was… this was a cute rival farmer? Apparently? She had just moved into the valley as well after inheriting land from her grandfather! That was.. that was cute. I wonder why I haven’t seen that in a farm simulator before… Maybe because traditionally Sid didn’t play farm simulators. But still. She was cute and apologetic and even offered for them to come by her farm sometime. Awe.

A random event has occured! Oh no! Sidney RidleyThat's a bug! As the cute female farmer walks off, she flips upside down and drifts away. Her arms t-pose at her sides. Seems like the animations are still a little bit glitched out. Yet its a credit to how cute the spritework is that she still looks adorable!

…
……
………..
Sid fought the intense urge to giggle as they watched the tiny little sprite somehow turned one hundred eighty degrees upside down and continued walking. Was that a bug or perhaps the best feature ever made? They took a quick screen cap before she faded into oblivion for their records and then sent that on to Haku right after. Thereafter, they followed her to her farm. Everything after that seemed to progress as normal. The character model was back right side up, and the transitions, though slow and a bit awkward in some places, weren’t too bad. They just wished the controls were a little more fluid, actually.
They played for a little longer, occasionally messaging Haku with tidbits they had found on the neighbor’s farm. Eventually, he messaged back that that was probably enough for him to work on. That T-posing issue was one he hadn’t encountered before, and he was very interested to know what was wrong with it. Sid had no idea but was happy to agree to test it again once he had gotten it all working.
Well, that had been a nice break from the norm. I should definitely keep doing that…
