Mmmmmm… There was nothing here that really stood out, and that irritated Gabe a little bit. Slipping the letters into the mailbag for now, he was right in time to see the Tauros trip. “No no no no no no no,” Gabe grasped one side of the Tauros quickly while Liz grasped Granny. Carefully, they managed to right the Tauros again before he fell over entirely.
A deep sigh escaped from Gabe after, and he mumbled a few words under his breath before looking more squarely at the Tauros. “Be careful…” he said a little more sternly than intended. Shifting his attention to Granny, though, he had to wonder just how long she was going to sleep for. Should he go back to the mail office and tell them that she’d just passed out or what, exactly? A hand slowly raised, and he nudged her shoulder a little.
Edwin found it easier walking on dirt paths and natural ground then this human created nonsense they called roads and sidewalks. All it took was one large crack in the sidewalk for the large pokemon to almost tumble, only for Gabe and Liz to help him prevent catastrophe. Thankfully Clementine stayed on his back, and the mail in the bag save for a few stragglers. The nervous tauros grumbled in an embarrassed thanks to the two who helped him.
The sleep Clemetnine was forced into was starting to fade, thankfully. Her mind was groggy, but she was finally conscious enough to register what's going on around her. The near tumble Edwin took and Liz holding onto her helped start bringing Granny back. When Gabe started nudging her, she grunted quietly.
Clementine's eyes started slowly opening as she fought the tired away, "Hmmm?" She hummed absentmindedly, still early into the process of waking up. Both pokemon and youngins make it looks so easy, but it's not always as quick and simple when you're older. She could feel the sleep in her bones still, and was doing her best to wake up.
While it seemed that the Taurus had regained his balance, there appeared to be someone else interested in the mail as an Impidimp seems to have found one particularly interesting piece of mail and is scampering off with it. It's so shiny! Who knows what treasures it may hold inside!
As Clementine started to come around, Gabe grew a little more persistent. “I can take over your mail if you want,” he was saying right then. “If you’re not feeling up to it.” Because this was already becoming such a hassle for him.
Gabe wouldn’t see the piece of mail being stolen, but Lizbeth would. Immediately hopping down from the Taros and chasing after it, she formed an Iron Tail and bashed in the little bastard as hard as she could. He went flying hitting a building and taking double damage. Snagging the letter from the hair, Liz huffed and started back towards Gabe and company again.
It was only then that Lizbeth’s motions would even register to Gabe, and he blinked a she held up an envelope. “Ah thanks, Liz,” Gabe received it and stowed it away again.
The grogginess Clementine felt was quickly pushed to the side as she heard Gabe suggested she stop working. While it was true that she took a decent fall, and even got attacked -- if you can call a forced nap ant attack -- by a pokemon for the first time, she had no intentions on giving up now. "Now now, I can do my job perfectly fine now that I'm awake again." She insisted, "But I will be more careful from now on, so don't worry about me."
While she was back to being alert mentally, her body still felt heavy. She wanted to sit up to prove to the young man that she was okay, but decided to give her body a little longer to recoup. She noted mentally that pokemon attacks were in a league of their own, and to not be in the face of them if she could help it.
Edwin noticed the little mail thief, but had no chance to catch it and still hold Clementine up. He grunted softly at Liz as a thanks for her justice.
Unfortunately, that Impidimp wasn't alone. Their harsh slam against the building alerted their other Impidimp friends, and quickly you find a hoard of six all rushing up to you screaming- oh Arceus, they're mad.
Gabe fought the urge to sigh and only managed a strange smile in response to Clementine’s words. “Alright,” he answered. Shifting down, he was about to let Lizbeth back on his shoulder when the sound of commotion hit his ears. Looking up and around in confusion, he suddenly saw a small horde coming their way screaming along. Shit, where did they all come from? He really didn’t want to battle on this job. They still had so much mail to deliver.
That left exactly one productive option. “… Let’s get out of here?!” Gabe said suddenly grabbing up Liz and flinging her and him onto the back of the Tauros. “RUN???” Liz was scrambling to get comfortable but was too squished between Clementine and Gabe right then.
With everyone piled on, Edwin took off and wouldn't stop until he made it back to the place where they got these terrible envelopes. Too dangerous, he decided and (once everyone had dismounted) sat his bull butt on the ground and refused to go anywhere.
After hearing of the problems the pair were having, the post office workers would take back what was left and offer Gabe a different route. They, however, insisted that Clementine should remain behind just in case.
Gabe grumbled a little as he walked out of the post office, a different bag on his shoulder and a different direction headed. He’d only managed to deliver one piece of mail from that one load which meant he really needed to work on getting this one accomplished. The mail office had seemed apologetic and had even offered to pay them for what they had done, but it wasn’t near what he would have been offered if the bag was clear. So here he was now, alone aside from Lizbeth on his shoulder, walking down the street to start this mail run.
Coming up to the first street, Gabe sifted in his bag and then started to look through the numerous pieces of mail that needed to be delivered. Hm, there we go. This set was in order by houses, so he was quick to pull them all into his hand and start down to the first house. Shoving mail in the mail box, he turned and started towards the second house. Wait, what was this envelope? Looked less like a letter and more like… Gabe paused to glance around before slowly sifting his finger up under the seal and opening it.
There seems to be a very pink, glittery birthday card in the envelope. A few specks of glitter lands on you and happens to stick to your fingers. A cutsie message to a little girl states "Happy Birthday, little princess. I wish you a life full of happiness and meaning. Stay sweet." It seems there's a $10 Pen gift card to a well-known general store.
Oh no. Ten pen? Ten pen, really? Ten pen was nothing, and now he felt bad for opening it. Gabe rubbed the side of his face and muttered something under his breath before he fished through his pocket for a roll of packing tape and resealed the letter within the envelope. Walking down the street again, he came to the house the letter was addressed to and opened the mailbox and promptly shoved the card (and a house bill) in it before closing it up and continuing on his way.
Could this day get any objectively worse? Once with that old lady’s scrutiny and now with his own self-imposed scrutiny? What? Was he becoming a reasonably good person? Oh, the humanity. It was just ten pen, that’s why. If it had been fifty or a hundred, he would have snatched the gift card and gone shopping later. He promised himself, but ten pen was…. ten pen. He’d be thinking about this long afterwards as he walked to the next house and paused to fish through his mail bag for any letters addressed to it.
Luckily, nobody noticed that the birthday gift was disturbed. There appear to be a few packages and several thick envelopes for this particular house. Hmmm...
Gabe chewed the inside of his mouth as he started to arrange the next pieces of mail. There appeared to be numerous packages and letters all addressed to the same place. If this was Chuzu Prime, I would have guessed it was mass order— but this was not that. Maybe someone’s grandma just likes delivering things? Heh, he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t curious.
Did he really want to chance opening more packages that may or may not have anything of interest in them? Well, he was alone now, and there was no one on the street currently to stop him. Humming softly to himself, Gabe fished a knife from his pocket and opened the first box peering inside it questioningly. If it wasn’t interesting, he was going to tape it up as he had before and go on to the next one. Hopefully it would be something worth his time, though, heh.
The first box happens to contain some rather expensive looking chocolates. They look tasty enough, but then again, dark chocolate could be a little dangerous now, couldn't it~.
Staring down at the chocolates, Gabe frowned and shook his had. The last time he’d eaten chocolate, his tongue had swelled up, and everything tasted fuzzy for nearly two weeks. Fishing out his packing tape again, he resealed it and then opened the second box. This contained a gift basket of food as well with a card that finally caught his eye ‘Get Well Soon’. Ugh, was the universe kidding him. Gabe rolled his eyes and resealed that one as well. Deciding not to look at the other packages, he walked to the mailbox they belonged to and began to stuff them inside. They just barely fit before Gabe started onwards.
He put a number of packages and letters and Arceus knew what else into various mail boxes along the route. However, his author would then notice that he had gone way over the minimum necessary to finish this job, so the rest was left vague and subject to interpretation. Once the mail route was complete, though, Gabe came back around with an empty bag and handed it back to the post office workers. Considering he didn’t find anything in the mail, he was looking forward to whatever they chose to reward him on that front.
