Gabe had been right, traveling was going to be worth it. If only for the sole reason of getting Nikolai, and by extension his Pokemon, out of the suddenly cramped apartment. It turned out that the breeder really lucked out on his eggs, especially the Larvesta. That boy, was huge! From what research Nikolai had been able to do, his firey bug was twice the size it was meant too. Which for a bug had already admittedly been large. So having his stand at his shoulder and have it's horns stand over his head was amazing. And while the Heatmor was only average size, that was still four and a half feet tall.
The Axew on the other hand, only standing at two feet at the shoulder definitely helped ease things around the place. The one Larvesta made things difficult enough as is. But having two?
Nikolai was already certain he'd be saving up for that farm sooner, rather than later.
First, he had to properly figure out what this whole being a trainer thing was about.
"Larvesta, bug and fire type. Ability of Flame Body, attacks that make physical contact with it may cause burns." Vibrant blue eyes looked up from his phone to look over the huge Larvesta that walked beside him. "Believable. Now Ember, weak fire attack, String Shot, pretty much as it sounds." Nikolai muttered as he walked forward, making stead progress down the Route as his trio of Pokemon followed after him.

"Axew, dragon type. Mold Breaker ability which means it basically ignores the abilities of all other Pokemon. Hmmm. Not all of them, just ignorable abilities? Like which ones?" Nikolai hummed to himself, still mostly paying attention to his phone as he walked. He figured that his Pokemon would tell him if he was about to miss something, or walk into a tree.
He hoped. Giving a quick glance to the Larvesta told him that it was at least watching out for him as vibrant blue met vibrant blue at the same time. Hmm, this was definitely a mon he'd have to keep. This one, he liked. Now, back to his studying. "Scratch, weak normal type attack. Leer, lowers the targets defense. Noted." Nikolai nodded, then giving a little sigh when he heard the commotion from his Axew. "Axe, axew!" The smaller dragon cried, waving her arms at the Heatmor. What were they doing, nose low to the ground like that?
Must be after something. "Heatmor, what are you doing?" He asked, voice soft with a slight smirk as he followed after the very determined pokemon. Only to find an oran berry tree? The Heatmor's fire coated tongue flicked out, licking one of the berries. "Now, now. You ate just before we left." Nikolai chided softly with a brief chuckle. But what was the harm in a snack? "Alright, but only a couple each. We need to save some for the wild Pokemon that rely on this tree for food."
The raven plucked a few berries from the tree, letting Heatmor gather her own. Not his fault if she liked them a little charred. But two were offered to the Larvesta, one to the Axew. And why not, it didn't hurt to keep two for himself. If he was to buy a farm it would probably help to have berries to grow on it.

This was turning into quite a boring excursion for the more active of the trio. Axew looking up quite frequently at the larger mons and human, hoping for something a bit more exciting or fun to happen. But they were just walking, and talking, and after their snack she was ready to go. She continued to frown, whining as Nikolai continued to speak out loud.
"Heatmor, fire type. Ability is Flash Fire. Any fire type attacks that hit it do no damage and instead power up their fire type attacks. Of which they currently have none." Nikolai murmured and continued. "Lick, a weak ghost type attack.... why is it a ghost type move? That sounds ridiculous. Tackle, weak normal type move." Nikolai finished up and sighed. This was going to take a bit of work now wasn't it?
And it was now that the man realized not all of his Pokemon were following. In fact two of them had stopped and the third couldn't be seen immediately. Nikolai grew concerned and turned around to see what was going on.
Larvesta and Heatmor were standing off the side of the road, looking towards the grass where the green grey dragon somewhat blended in. Nikolai joined the larger Pokemon in looking at the dragon type as she waddled back, struggling to bring something back with her. "Axew? What do you have?" Nikolai squatted down to ask as the mon came out of the grass.... carrying two decently large and heavy stones.
"Axew, darling." Nikolai sighed heavily, expression quickly turning tired. He just didn't have the heart to tell her to put them down, not when she was holding them like that and she was already giving him those big eyes. He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Why don't you let Larvesta carry one of those for you?" He offered instead, a string of silken thread already shooting out from the bug to take one of the stones. Which freed up Axew's arms to carry them more easily.
So now they were walking on again, a little slower to compensate for Axew waddling with a stone she refused to put down.

Well, he could definitely say that how all 18 types of Pokemon interacted was interesting. But book smarts would only get him so far. Granted, it wasn't like Nikolai had to take part in a large number of battles to get anywhere. Once he had some more compatible Pokemon, he could begin making money with eggs. It was just a matter of getting his hands on said Pokemon.
Which apparently either involed fighting and weakening them, or making friends. Lips pulled up into a sneer. Making friends with wild Pokemon before he knew their full potential? That just sounded like a waste of time. But, it sounded like it was going to become a necessary annoyance. The man sighed heavily, bright blue eyes finally looking up from his phone. He supposed he could still find a way to earn money and buy some eggs that could be from good stock. But that also took money and time. So did pokeballs though.
Nikolai sighed heavily again, hand raising to pinch the bridge of his nose while his eyes closed. What a predicament. The trio of mons had stopped to look at their trainer. It was that lack of movement that brought attention to them, to at least this other Pokemon. There was the rustling of bushes, and then something dark was bolting towards them. At the sudden movement Nikolai's pokemon startled, and Nikolai himself opened his eyes to calmly analyze the situation.
Of all the things, Axew was flailing, and the dark form of a Murkrow was making of. With her rock. Why the rock? Nikolai had no idea. It was just a stone. "Larvesta, String shot." The command was issued with an icy but calm tone. And as instructed, another silken thread was shot forward from the Larvesta, the string connecting to the rock. And a jerk pulling it from the Murkrow's lose grasp. There was a squawk of surprise before the bird was diving back down at the bug.
"String shot again, bind it." The command was spoken, just as calmly as before.
And the Larvesta seemed to be feeding off of his trainer's confidence, trusting in the calculated tone his trainer was using. So once the bird was closer, the barrage of silk was let loose, wrapping around and over the bird, embers shooting from the dual type's horns to dodge the bird as it collapsed to the ground due to it's failed peck attack. Now the bird was relatively helpless as the human loomed over the bird.
"Now, you're one lucky Murkrow." Nikolai squatted down, though still looming over the bird. Shadows darkening his form as light was blocked off. It was actually somewhat intimidating. "It was a good try, I like you're conviction. So I'll give you two options. One, we can let you go, and you don't bother me ever again. Or two, you stay with me, and we work together. You'll have all your wants and needs satisfied, within reason of course, and I teach you more effective ways to steal. What is your choice?" Nikolai asked, tone still cold before he was holding out the ball before touching it to the bird.
