"Cmoooon Azur, it's just right over here!"
It would be a warm and beautiful afternoon, when Ettie jogged along - a hand taking Azur's, as she made her way down the streets of Plum City, Anne following at her heels. Though the girl-and-pup duo were able to near-effortlessly weave themselves inbetween the hustle and bustle of people going about their days, it was another question as to whether Azur could manage the same, given that he didn't share the duo's small size and agility. Ettie didn't seem to mind this fact all that much, though; instead focused on an arcade that sat just down the road, its sign flashing with neon lights that would catch the attention of any child.
The sign didn't seem to have Ettie's attention, however. What was really catching the young girl's eye, was a job listing posted on the front door. The arcade was asking for people to beta test a new arcade machine, it seemed; and Ettie had signed them both up for it! What was a better way to make some easy pen, than doing something fun, after all?
Though Ettie never did play many video games, she had been to arcades enough times to understand how arcade machines worked - and so, when they entered, Ettie would be quick to beeline for the arcade machine in particular. It had a militaristic coat of paint to it, in camo greens - with little cartoonish army characters painted on it, and the title 'Iron Snail' emblazoned on the side. Judging by the title screen of the game - which had a looping clip of gameplay in the background - it looked to be a side-scrolling platformer shooter, with two sets of buttons on the arcade machine's dashboard for up to two players.
"Here; I'll take player two, you can have player one!" Ettie chirped as she got into position; briefly figuring out the the controls by looking over the labels on the buttons. Anne, meanwhile, would curl up on a chair nearby; quietly watching to see just how, exactly, this beta testing session would go. Given the fact that Ettie had stocked up snacks and drinks in her bag, it seemed like she was in it for the long haul...! gOG6q5Uep_ (0 Gaming, 10 Dexterity, 25 Luck)

Azur really have no idea what's up. For all he know what Ettie wanted him to do was some sort of a... fun outing thing? It was afternoon, and honestly Azur really just want to lay on their shared room in Pokemon Center, maybe sips some tea while reading novel, eating some pastries... yeah, that would be nice, but somehow Ettie have other plan. And that plan is.... whatever she's planning to do actually, considering she's the one who's pulling him and all that. Azur indeed isn't as fast as the more lithe young girl... but he have the stamina. But in the end, stamina is also a factor...
Azur eventually knew what she's up to.. Beta testing. Hoo boy. He hope that she know what's up with this... Beta Testing often could go for hours, and it's not just a small job. Azur doesn't have the heart to tell her that this job probably going to be hard... so he told Ettie to wait for a moment while he goes to one of the vending machine... and inserted several coins in. He bought teas for Ettie, and energy drink for himself. He readied his notebook and pen just in case.
...He was the one who told Ettie to do a clean job... and this is a clean job. Azur called out Zeit to lay on the floor with Anne. Near his stomach are four eggs... Milcery, Joltik, Zorua, and finally... Rotom. Once he's sure the placement is fine, Azur sat on the other chair and tested the controls first.
Let's fire up this game shall we?! It looks like you get to select among twelve different little snail-inspired avatars. As you select whichever ones you want, it drops you down onto the first level where there are a bunch of platforms.... and neither of your controls to jump work. Better get creative if you want to progress.

As Zeit curled up around the eggs, Anne would hop down from the chair to join him with a gentle wag of her tail; curling up around the eggs as well, and giving Zeit a little nuzzle in greeting. Ettie, meanwhile, would open up one of the fruity teas that Azur had retrieved, and sipped on it; briefly making a face, as if the taste was unexpected, but... She seemed to keep drinking it, anyways. Was she not very picky?
As Azur commented on the controls seeming firm though, she would tilt her head a little bit curiously, glancing in his direction. "Firm?" She'd question, seeming to not entirely get what he meant.
As the game started up though, there would be a selection of avatars - which Ettie couldn't help but giggle at, smiling brightly. "They're pretty cute!" She'd remark happily; picking out the most colorful looking snail for herself. Once she and Azur had their avatars chosen, it'd be time for the first level; which Ettie was more than happy to get started on! Except for the fact that the jump didn't work. She'd try to press the button a few times at varying strengths, but no matter how she tried, it didn't seem as though she was gonna be able to get to the next platforms...
"Awww... A big bug already?" Ettie lamented, briefly blowing a raspberry. She'd begin pressing the different buttons in hopes of figuring something out, and - initially - nothing seemed to work... Only for her to throw a grenade, and to - subsequently - accidentally launch her snail with the explosion onto one of the platforms! This development would make Ettie perk up noticeably; her eyes lighting up at this, as she began to giggle. Cue explosions and cartoonish yelping sound effects, as Ettie began to - of all things - use explosions to propel herself whenever she needed to jump!
Did it do damage to the character?
Possibly.
Did she care?
Nope! As long as she was progressing, and had the coins to make up for losing lives (which would be paid back with this job anyways,) she was more than happy to send her snail flying however she pleased!
Anne couldn't help but raise an eyebrow, though, as she watched Ettie and Azur play the game. What in the world was going on, on the screen...? k4c2|Zryp_ (0 Gaming, 10 Dexterity, 25 Luck)

Zeit was happy with Anne's presence. He licked her back and barked lightly at her as a greeting. The eggs must be warm now. The Arcanine rested his head near the Rockruff's body. As for Azur meanwhile...
"Do you like it?" Azur asked. "Pace yourself. Teas have uh... a diuretic effect, so you should not drink too fast. But if you like it I can buy you more later once you're done." and then the game started. Azur tested the directional buttons. "Oh yeah.. basically by saying that it's firm, I'm saying that the buttons are not loose. Sometimes there are no bugs but the problem is the controller is jammed or not connected well or something like the wiring is sorta incorrect... But so far so good..."
Azur picked one of the snail that looked most like him. But that's when he noticed that he can't jump. ...Huh.
"Well I expect snail to not be able to jump, but what on earth? If it's platformers there's no reason why you can't jump," he muttered. He jotted that one down as the first bug. He made sure to put a "?" to make sure that whether it's like a feature or something until he suddenly heard a sound of explosion.
He looked at Ettie who seem to find the... way.
It's not the cheap kind though. Azur made sure to press some more button, hoping that he doesn't have to resort to that trick... Although, he guess if it's really a feature to not be able to jump and have to blew grenade to launch the snail, he would be quite understanding... Now, let's see how it goes! WC: 278 JUB4Qz4F+15 DEX
You successfully land on the platform above and receive... a gold star! They seem to power up your snail! But for what? You don't know yet, but surely it will be something! Uh... what next? There seems to be another platform but also a tunnel over next to you. You may just force the screen off of Azur's snail, though!
Your snail avatar is launched into the air from the bomb! And goes splat on the side of the wall. Ewwww. You lost a life, but thankfully your snail materializes next to Ettie's! Well, it was not all for not.
Anne's tail would wag happily as Zeit licked her, responding with a gentle bark of her own. As Zeit rested his head down near her, she'd briefly lick his nose, before resting her head down next to his; letting out a content sigh, as she let her eyes drift closed for now.
As Azur questioned about whether Ettie liked the tea or not, the young girl couldn't help but shrug a little, with one shoulder. "I don't mind it, but it tastes kinda weird to me..." She'd murmur. Ettie, admittedly, had never had teas before; so this was a new, albeit odd, taste for her. She honestly prefers sweeter drinks, like sodas and juice! But considering that she wasn't exactly a picky girl, she'd nonetheless smile to Azur; mentioning "I'll still drink it, though!"
Meanwhile though, even though the snails couldn't jump, it seemed that using explosions to propel oneself would suffice! Ettie would get up onto a platform, and end up collecting a golden star! A powerup of some sort? It was hard to say what, exactly, this powerup was for - but Ettie wanted to make the most of it before it ran out! Although, at the same time... She'd watch as Azur's snail careened off, and splatted into a wall! Ettie, in reaction, couldn't help but giggle a bit; grinning teasingly at Azur. "Pftehehehee; your snail went splat!"
This would mean that Azur's snail respawned next to hers, though; which allowed Ettie to propel herself to the next platform - and the subsequent tunnel - without any worries of bringing Azur offscreen. Hopefully, she'd be able to figure out this power-up before it ran out, and Azur would be able to keep up with Ettie! ZQjDueSOp_ (10 Dexterity, 25 Luck)
"Is that so?" Azur answered with hint of amusement in his voice. "Well, I can understand that. Would you like juice or soda for the second part of the game then?"
Zeit appreciates Anne's lick, but he can't help but to feel tickled. That was his nose, and well, you know what would happen. The Arcanine briefly sneezed, a quite cute one at that, as Azur just awww'd at the sound of it. He wags his tail though, seem to be very happy at the sign of affection.
"Hmmm, can't tell whether this is a bug or a feature," Azur commented as he saw his snail splatting from the explosion while Ettie's snail got a power up instead. Interesting, but he should record this one too. He turned his attention to Ettie, then whispered "boom, splat" in his best attempt to mimic the sound effect, chuckling. At least it made her amused! "There are quite a lot that we still have no idea of, but I sure hope that we will have more idea... Like, are the grenades meant to be infinite because it can propel our snail? Is there any manual on this?"
Either way, he moved his snail to follow Ettie's. Oh, speaking of which, he also noted the problem with the two snails could ended up offscreen.. Isn't that bad for multiplayer? WC: 225 ESGE2VKg + 15 DEX
You move down the snail tunnel, and you come to your first monster! A... little flask of salt hopping around? Better avoid it! At least your jump seems to be working now!
"Either sounds good," Ettie would agree to Azur's offer, nodding and smiling warmly. Being the child that she was, soda was admittedly more appealing to her than juice - but she also recognized that Azur would probably rather give her juice, since that was at least somewhat healthier.
As Zeit sneezed though, Ettie couldn't help a happy giggle and 'dawwww' of her own; glancing back at the Arcanine, and watching as he wagged his tail. "Zeit and Anne seem to really like each other," The young girl would idly comment to Azur; glancing over to him with a warm smile. "Have you seen how much time they spend with each other?"
As they continued to play the arcade game though, Ettie would soon hear Azur whisper a 'boom, splat' sound effect in her ear; something that would cause her to devolve into giggles, nearly missing one of her grenade-jumps as she briefly lost her focus! She was too amused by the situation to care, though; instead smiling brightly to Azur for a moment, before continuing to play the game. "I dunno," She'd respond with a nonchalant shrug. "I probably should've asked, though; eheheheh!"
As they moved along, though; they'd soon come along what looked to be... A living flask of salt? Ettie would briefly tilt her head at this, before giggling as the reason for the salt dawned on her. She wouldn't immediately realize that their jump was back, though; instead throwing a grenade at the flask, to see if she could defeat it! lenfdWTqp_ (10 Dexterity, 25 Luck)

"I guess drinking too much soda could be bad, but so is juice when we're sitting for a long time... I'll get some soda and some water later then. Once the lives are down some. Or I guess I can ask Tristan and Gusios later... if they're in mood to help that is. But considering I have four eggs with me I guess only one could help... i guess I'll check the rest and maybe ask Zeit to play..."
The Arcanine perked at this and made a face that looked like "how do you even expect me to play with my paws like this?" It made Azur chuckle.
Hmm, Zeit and Anne does indeed spent quite a lot of time together for one reason or another... "...I wonder if it's because they love each other or something... Like, I wonder if they acknowledge one another as a mate or something? Zeit does felt like a bit of a late bloomer though... While Anne... well..."
No idea how Anne is like... But regardless, Azur chuckled when Ettie giggled at his little joke. "Hmmm... and now there's a jumping salt shaker...? No, that's a flask? But either way, salts are dangerous for mollusks. As Mollusks are naturally almost all muscly, they depend so much on being properly moist to move. Salt could kill them."
Hmmm... "For the meantime, let's bomb it away, yeah. If all fail, I'll just gonna see if there is a bug if the snail hit by the salt attack and then nothing happened."
You bomb the flask! And it explodes! And then as the dust clears... it's still there? Is this a bug or a weird feature of these monsters? Uh, better jot that one down just in case!
As your snail throws a bomb, the hopping flask does shatter! So it was breakable after all! (So maybe it has something to do with that avatar in particular, perhaps?)
At the mention of asking Zeit to help, Ettie couldn't help a sharp giggle; clearly amused by the idea of an arcanine playing videogames. "I think Zeit's paws are too big to properly play the game - but the buttons might be big enough for Anne or one of the other pups to play it!" She'd chirp, briefly wondering whether or not she wanted to let the others run around some. Considering that they're indoors, she didn't want to crowd the area too much, but... It seemed to be a slow day, too; so maybe it wouldn't hurt?
In any case, at the suggestion that Zeit and Anne might love eachother, the Rockruff in question did a bark-like squawk of surprise. Mates?? That soon?? She wasn't even a Lycanroc yet! The reaction seemed to get a laugh out of Ettie, though; the young girl briefly having to wipe tears from the corners of her eyes, with how much she had been laughing as of late! "I- pftehehehe - I d-don't think they're mates yet, Azur! They've only just met!"
The 'yet' would only elicit a whining bark from Anne, as if she were asking 'what do you mean yet?!'
As they tried to blow up the salt flask enemy though, Ettie's grenade - initially - wouldn't work, much to her confusion! Furrowing her brows, she was about to throw another grenade to try again, but... Thankfully, Azur's grenade would work, to defeat the enemy! "Huhm..." She'd hum in brief confusion, tilting her head. "... Maybe it takes multiple hits to defeat?" She'd wonder out loud, before continuing onwards with her avatar - eager to see what else the game had to offer. ikcrOoK4p_ (10 Dexterity, 25 Luck)

"Well that I agree..." Azur admitted. Their paws probably half his face in size... That's just how big. "But at the same time imagining Zeit playing the game is quite amusing. Too bad that they said they need human to play it though, not Pokemon. So there's that... Heh."
Amusing as it was, thinking what if a Pokemon would do when they somehow playing games, Azur decided to focus on what Ettie said next. "To be fair, Ettie, we just met few months ago but here we are, being together, and somehow already bonded enough to point of being happily together like a pair of big brother and his little sister," Azur told her, chuckling. "And who knows, maybe Anne just didn't notice it herself, but I do think that they have strong chemistry."
...All of that goes over the Arcanine's head as he watched the eggs hatched though. The first two to hatch are a Milcery and a.... wait that Joltik looked strange! Both are smaller than their size though... Azur quickly checked the two. "...The Joltik is a female... So I guess this one is Kumoko... the other one, the Milcery is male. Hmmm this one, I guess I'll call him Sherbet."
Returning to the game, Azur watched as his snail managed to destroy the opponent. He jotted down a note... If it's related to characters in particular that means the difficulty will spike if it's not played in multiplayer... Isn't it a bit hardcore? Hnggh... Well, more thing to jot down! "Hmmm, if it does need multiple hit then it makes sense. Did it... yanno, shake a bit when that happened? Like flinching or it shows any animation that it was hurt?"
Regardless, time to move on WC: 290 vo_J0293 + 15 DEX
For some reason, as soon as the next level loads, your controls are lagging. It takes forever for your snail to respond to the simplest of directions, and you're unable to successfully shoot any enemies.
The game is working fine for you, as you move and shoot your way through. You might need some teamwork to navigate past some of the harder enemies, though...
As Azur pointed out how quickly the both of them bonded, Ettie would blink a bit, before glancing down at the controls; a bit of a sheepish smile across her face. "Thats true..." She'd murmur; giggling a little, before adding "But I think that Zeit and Anne need a little longer, before they'll start calling each other mates; just look at the look on poor Anne's face!"
Indeed, Anne had a bit of a flustered and perhaps startled look to her; briefly shaking her head. Zeit was a wonderful Arcanine, but she didn't feel ready to commit to anything until she was properly evolved - and she'd make a point to state all of this to Zeit as well. She just felt like it was much too early for her to start choosing mates, regardless of how much she appreciated and enjoyed spending time with Zeit.
Before any talks could go any further though, a couple of the eggs would begin to hatch...! Anne's tail would begin to wag at this, as she almost immediately begun to groom both newborn pokemon; picking off any bits of eggshell stuck to them, and lightly nuzzling them. Ettie, too, would put her snail in a safe spot so that she could look at the two newly-hatched pokemon; smiling widely and excitedly. "D'awwww," She'd coo - visibly endeared. "They're both so cute! Welcome to the world, lil fellas!"
As they returned to the game though, Azur would ask Ettie about the enemy that they had been fighting - to which she'd think for a second. "Mm... Maybe? I'm not sure, the explosion kinda covered it up..." She'd respond, shrugging a little as they continued on through the level, and...
... Ettie's snail, almost amusingly, began moving at a snail's pace. Or, more accurately, the controls were going at a snail's pace! Every button that she pressed had a delayed reaction - which, understandably, made it hard to continue fighting through the level. Still though, she'd try her best to make do with this - hoping that she could still aid Azur somehow, with these enemies...! EDmfPB0yp_ (10 Dexterity, 25 Luck)
"Oh Anne," Azur began, chuckling "don't worry, I'm mostly just teasing you two... Although looks like Zeit is more preoccupied by the eggs..." Now that there are two hatching, Azur put ANOTHER egg for Zeit to take care of. This one is a Sobble apparently. A Galarian starter Pokemon. Azur was surprised they have this in here in Arciel... are they imported? Whichever it is, though, he just wanted one for himself, made him remember his home. You can take a man away from Galar, but not Galar from a man. He's that, pretty much. Azur gave the two newborn Pokemon some foods just in case. They must be hungry!
Well, for the meantime Azur have to do this alone... It's not Ettie's fault, mind, it's the game's. Talk about very slow reaction though... "...It's as if the avatar suddenly took.." Azur looked at Ettie "a snail pace." he continued with a deadpan. That was a pun so bad that Zeit hid his face under his paw with a groan. Azur laughed like an evil mastermind at it.
"Maybe there are some button combinations that can clear that up. Make sure to jot it down on the notes, Ettie," Azur told the girl. He just hope that he won't get that same problem
You press the controls a couple more times and then a little harder still. The game seems to become a little easier to maneuver in again! You don't exactly return to the lightning speed you had before, but there seems to be a power up in the corner! Maybe go grab it?
You attack one of the higher level enemies, and it blocks with a little shield before-- blasting you back with the shield power! That seems a little weird in a game like this... It's even weirder because now your snail is glitching out in the top right hand corner there.
Post by Ettie Carnall on Jun 27, 2020 21:06:58 GMT
Hmm.. So far, Ettie had no luck in aiding Azur against these enemies; with her delayed controls, she kept missing her attacks! Brows furrowed, she'd look a hair disgruntled; focusing deeply on the game... At least, until Azur proceeded to deadpan a pun into her ear; something that'd make Ettie blink briefly, before devolving into giggles alongside him. Even as Zeit (and Anne as well) both groaned at the terrible pun, Ettie couldn't help but laugh alongside Azur at it all; seeming to greatly appreciate the silly pun! "Azuuuuur, that was baaaaaad!"
And, thankfully, it seemed that her controls were speeding back up; making it a little easier for her to fight these enemies, and allowing her to go and try to grab a powerup she spotted!
When Azur's snail proceeded to start glitching out though, Ettie couldn't help but devolve into giggles once more; chirping "Guess he's just vibing up there now!" Hopefully, Azur would get his snail free soon..! SmWhnYssp_ (+10 Dex)
"If you think that was bad... then just wait until i got another chance... they said in Galar we just shot puns in our free time. It's like an entertainment to see who made the worst of it all by the number of groan, and who did won the pun off, hahah! ...By the way, that's just joking, so don't be afraid to come with me back home someday."
Hmmm, look at that, he's not in good situation. "Hmmm, looks like it's my turn to get into..." a pause as Azur prepare himself to drop the pun bomb "a sticky situation."
Well, doesn't matter. "Hope that was shellarious to you. ...And now I just now why they're just tossing bombs... they're... slugging bombs..."
Either way, he used the time the glitch happened to jot down the glitch. Well, enough of those puns before lady luck decided that he doesn't deserve any luck because all the puns he has been making. For the meantime, he'll try to move his controls to see if it's just a random glitch, or if it's game breaking. At the moment they got quite number of bugs here... He hope whoever made this machine did not think that they will make delivery tomorrow or something...
...Oh yeah, Azur take a swig of his energy drink. Tastes like Med School alright.
