The chill in the air was somewhat invigorating as Gabe biked down Route 6. After the Halloween ball, he’d decided to make a trek south west-ish over to Pine Town. No reason, of course, he just felt like it, of course. He made good progress for the early part of the morning and had started to slow down into a light paced roll down the pathway.
In the basket in front of Gabe, Liz was seated comfortably with her tail folded around herself. Above him, Frosty was flying about searching for treasures. The latter was loving the change in season and in a fairly good mood given Christmas was coming (even if not soon enough!). He was also out to do what he loved most: searching for treasures, though, whether that was people, Pokemon, or the ever so elusive item of interest.
Speaking of finding things, a call did escape from Frosty and cause Gabe to slow a bit and start over in the direction of the Delibird’s point. Liz rolled her eyes hoping it wasn’t another stupid broken toy again.
What was it that had caught Crowlie’s eye? A pretty girl in the form of a Jigglypuff. He’d landed on a branch just above her and was making heart eyes down to her. She’d blushed up at him but shaken a little. Ah, no, she wasn’t interested. Smiling and waving to the on lookers as they came closer, she swayed a bit and held her hands in front of herself. Gabe deadpanned a little. Liz rolled her eyes.
She was very cute, but Jigglypuff were known for their… musical performances, and he really didn’t want to take a nap right now. “Hello sweetie, I hope your day is going well,” he mused giving a small wave. “Crowlie, let’s keep moving…” He called up to the Murkrow. The latter gave a small whined cry. “Now.” The bird sighed and gave a small salute before flying upwards again. The Jigglypuff waved goodbye, and Gabe started onwards again. Tsk tsk, Gabe hoped that they would find something more interesting than that.
They were almost back on the road when a Machop seemed to step out from behind some brush. “Hm? Well hello there,” Gabe started. The Machop folded her arms and frowned heavily. “What’s wrong?” Gabe asked. A point upwards was given, and Gabe found himself looking up to find Crowlie hovering. Ohhhh. Was this perhaps …. The Jigglypuff’s friend? Confidant? Lover even? “Mad at Crowlie for hitting on your girl?” Gabe asked. The Machop gave such a curt response that Gabe realized he’d hit a nerve. “Oh.” Well then. “Would a battle suffice?” The Machop gave a prompt nod. “Very well then,” Gabe smiled.
Crowlie wasn’t exactly sure he wanted to fight, but the way that Machop was looking at him made it clear that he really didn’t have a choice in the matter. A cry escaped from him as he tried to pump himself up enough to do this. “Wing Attack,” was the order. The Murkrow went flying dowards drawing up as much Flying power as he could to swipe at that Machop with. The latter took the blow but was Focusing her Energy so much that she barely even flinched at the hard-hitting move. Thrusting out her arms and chest, she uttered a fierce cry again and swiped with a Karate Chop. The sheer force of the move and the Murkrow’s partial typing had the bird shrieking in pain. Gabe and Liz flinched in unison. Yikes they needed to be careful.
“Fly up and hit from afar,” Gabe ordered. The Murkrow flew upwards and released an Assurance. The Machop took the move without a problem, though, and retaliated once again. It was… a rough fight, and it went on like that for a few more rounds before a strategic Wing Attack was allowed to occur. The Machop fell to her knee and conceded. Gabe sighed and returned Crowlie for a rest for now. That had been tough. At least she was willing to let him and Liz go now.
After that, Gabe biked for a while moving a bit faster to make up for lost time. He still very much wanted to get to Pine Town in reasonable time, heh. As they moved, however, Liz would notice something in the sky and give a small cry upwards. Gabe’s gaze raised reflecting the shadow of the Pokemon that passed, and a small “Oh my…” came and went from him. A Togekiss planed above them calling out happily and circling about. What a friendly Pokemon… Gabe’s lips twitched as he watched it. What a marvelous Pokemon. The Togepi line was in high demand, and he wouldn’t ever deny another Flying type the opportunity to join him.
Slowing his bike and coming off the road, Gabe waited to see if the Togekiss would follow. Sure enough, it did giving a careful but curious look. Liz, in the basket, immediately hopped out. The Togekiss looked at her and then seemed to zero in on the cute little chain on her tail. A compliment was cried out. Liz immediately blushed and shifted herself from one foot to the other. Uhm, well, thank you, she supposed. “Did you want to battle, maybe?” Gabe offered.
The Togekiss blinked before smiling and nodding. Sure. That wasn’t why he had flown over (he just saw something cute and shiny and had to investigate), but he wouldn’t mind a challenge from such an interesting young man. “Liz?” The Charmander called back. She was always ready.
“Flamethrower,” Gabe ordered. The Charmander took in a deep breath and spit flames. The Togekiss cut them with an Air Slash but still took some damage. Wincing at the heat, he shook it off and flew a little upwards. Liz managed to avoid the remnants of the Air Slash’s attack but was now having to deal with an aerial opponent again. “Dragon Rush in close and use Thundr Punch,” Gabe ordered. The Charmander filled with energy and burst forward closing the distance between them and slamming her fist into the Togekiss. The latter took the brush of Draconic energy without a problem being part Fairy Type— but the surge of Electricity that then ran through her earned a surprised and confused cry.
Gabe wasn’t going to waste the opportunity. Fishing out a Pokeball, he tossed it at the Togekiss.
As the Pokeball clicked shut and dinged in capture, Gabe caught it in turn. “Wonderful,” he murmured softly smirking to himself. Even if he didn’t end up using it often, it was a good addition to his party. “Good work, Lizbeth,” he mused. The Charmander turned and beamed at him, and for a half second, he felt his heart melt at her eyes. Arceus she was so lovely. “Come here you….” he murmured picking her up and snuggling her close. She pressed against him briefly before leaning back and offering a wry smile back to him.
“Hm, you know, maybe we should look around for a bit longer. We’re not on this route often,” he mused. Liz gave a grin in return. She would love to run into more things to battle. A soft laugh escaped from Gabe in turn. Slowly shifting to set her in the basket of the bike he paused and looked thoughtful. “Actually, I wonder…” he fished through the bag attached as a carry on to the back of it. Fishing out the Fire incense he had nabbed the other day, he slowly opened it. Liz immediately leaned sideways in the basket. That smelled delicious to her! “Oh? You like that?” Gabe teased. Liz smiled a bit sheepishly. Yes, she kinda did, heh. “I wonder if any in the area will like it too.”
They waited for a little while with no luck. Liz liked the scent, though, so Gabe guessed it wasn’t a total loss. Still, he had to wonder if he should have snagged something else if these things didn’t— The sound of flapping wings and Liz’s sudden shrieking would cut Gabe from his thoughts. Yellow eyes flashed backwards, and just as he turned, Gabe saw why.
“Oh my….” Gabe stared in awe as the Charizard seemed to be flying straight for them. Liz was hissing and yelling all kinds of words in their shared language demanding that the Charizard not come any closer or she’d retaliate. The Charizard, however, didn’t pay her any mind right then. She was smaller, and he was interested in that smell in the air instead. It was most definitely coming from that human, so maybe if he—
A Thunder Punch had everyone jolting. Gabe blinked back into reality from his awed stare. The Charizard blinked back down to the Charmander whose claw was still sparking with electricity. She hissed again. Not any closer. The Charizard roared in response forming a Dragon Rush and aiming to punt this pipsqueak as far as he could. She met him with her own Dragon Rush, however, and had a surprising kick back of energy to her. He roared in response. How dare she??? So small!
Gabe shook his head realizing that he needed to get back into reality this instant. “Liz,” he ordered. “Thunder Punch again, try and Paralyze him.” She was more than willing to do just that leaping up and raising her claw again. What she was met with, however, was a Shadow Claw from the Charizard. The latter then easily threw her over his back. She flipped, though, formed another Thunder Punch, and slammed it into his tail instead. That would show him for disrespecting her! The Charizard roared in sudden pain right after, thrashing about aggressively now.
Meanwhile Gabe was scrambling for a Pokeball and throwing it hard and fast at the Charizard. He couldn’t afford to let it get away!
As the Pokeball dinged in capture, Lizbeth turned and looked at Gabe incredulously. Gabe’s features twisted up at her expression. “What? Did you really think I was going to let that big a prize go?” he asked in response. The Charmander huffed softly and shook her head before slowly looking down. Gabe’s features fell some as he realized that shew as, in fact, hurt by this in one way or another.
Closing the distance between them, Gabe lifted Liz causing her to squirm briefly before looking back at him. “Whether you’re small or big… a Charmander or a Charizard… you’re my Lizard Breath….” Gabe assured a mix of genuine affection and incessant teasing in his voice. Liz blushed and pushed a claw at his face earning a grin in turn. “There’s my sassy lizard….” he laughed. She pushed a little harder against his face and called out her soft ‘char’ a couple of times before settling again. He snuggled her in that moment. She sighed. He sighed.
As this heartfelt moment was going down, however, another Fire type had been lured to the area by the sweet scent of something pleasant. A low “Mrrrrr?” was what eventually caused both Gabe and Liz to twist around and assess what was there. The Litleo stared at them both unsure of what exactly she was looking at but vaguely certain they were the source of the smell. Gabe stared for a moment again with a look of absolute surprise and flabbergasted-ness. First a Charizard and now a different colored Litleo? Shit he needed to buy that incense more often!
“L—“ Liz had battled twice already, Gabe realized, and she could wear out pretty soon if he wasn’t careful. Fishing out a Pokeball, he released Leonardo instead. The Wartortle looked briefly surprised and then immediately irritated to find himself in the presence of weaker adversaries. What did Gabe think he was?? A low irritable sound escaped from him. “Oh come on,” Gabe encouraged back. The Wartortle huffed but as the Litleo seemed to get what was happening and hop to attention, he supposed it was worth battling for now.
They clashed a bit with Gabe giving the occasional order here and there, but the Type advantage was clearly doing more than the raw strength advantage. After taking a rather nasty Water Pledge to the face, the Litleo swayed. Gabe fished out a Pokeball and tossed it at her.
As the Pokeball dinged in capture, Gabe exhaled a breath he had been holding. “Ah good,” he smiled at Leo and clasped his hands behind himself. “Good work, thank you.” The Wartortle rolled his eyes and folded his arms. He had only battled because he saw the strength in that Litleo, no other reason. Gabe just smiled back.
Liz sighed, thankful that they were getting along for now anyways. A sound caught her ears, however, and she looked over to search out the source. On noticing this, Gabe immediately looked around as well. Leo refused and just folded his arms where he was, waiting to be inevitably returned.
A Marowak stepped out from the brush to meet the gaze of several onlookers. His gaze fixed briefly on the Charmander and then raised up to her trainer. He had smelled the particular lure of something sweet but had resolved to ignore it at first. When he had heard the commotion of battle, however, his interest piqued just enough for him to come forth and catch the tail end of the battle. All at once he’d been impressed with the strength and compassion of the Wartortle, and even if it meant losing a battle, he wished to challenge him as well. A cry reverberated from him revealing this.
Leo squinted before looking sideways at Gabe accusingly. Gabe blinked and looked back not entirely sure what he was being accused of let alone how it was somehow his fault. “What?” Hmph. As much as he wanted to refuse battle, Leo could feel a strange kinship with this Marowak. It was… odd but not entirely unwelcome. A giggle escaped from Gabe. “Can’t turn down a challenge can you?” he teased. The Wartortle glanced sideways at him dangerously. Gabe only grinned back all the more. “Go for it.” Huffing softly, the Wartortle stepped forward. He would sate the fight in both of them.
The glow of the Marowak’s weapon shined bright before he tossed it forward in a fierce Bonemerang. “Rapid Spin,” Gabe ordered quickly, and the Wartortle couldn’t even argue. Leaping forward and spinning out under the Bonemerang, he managed to avoid getting hit. As he went spinning at the Marowak, though, the creature fazed through him untouchable. “Oh—“ Gabe started before smirking. “Bite then…” Twisting out of the Rapid Spin, the Wartortle chomped down on the Marowak, and sure enough, the Ghost portion reeled at the Dark Type attack. “Water Pledge….” Gabe started, but the Wartortle wouldn’t use that yet. He didn’t want to finish this fight yet. Gabe sighed and Liz smiled a little. At least he’d listened for a bit.
The fight dragged on, but as an opening was seen, Gabe was quick to toss a ball.
As the Pokeball dinged in capture, Gabe smiled. “Nice work,” he mused. The Wartortle sighed softly to himself and then offered a smirk back. It had been a good battle, he guessed, but he was left feeling off for reasons he wasn’t sure of. Whatever for now. Maybe these feelings would settle down if he conversed with the Marowak later (baring that Gabe didn’t sell him or something, ugh).
Well that was a good haul, Gabe would say. He returned the Wartortle like he wanted and picked up Liz ready to set her in the basket when the crunch of something caught both of their attentions. A Grumpig was stepping out of the brush and looking at the human and Charmander skeptically. “Well, you aren’t a Fire type,” Gabe chuckled softly to himself. The Grumpig put her hands on her hips. Gabe frowned a little. It seemed that she was looking for a battle one way or another. “Liz would you mind?”
The Charmander rolled her eyes and hopped down from Gabe’s arms shifting from one foot to the other ready for a quick throw down. A Power Gem was launched in her direction, but a quick word from Gabe had her tail solidifying to Iron and crashing the move back at the Grumpig. Some flames them spewed from her mouth and had the Grumpig lunging to dodge. A Psybeam was returned, and the fighting continued like that. Liz got in a good few hits closing in with a Dragon Rush and then slamming with a Thunder Punch. After a little, the Grumpig retreated.
“Thanks, Liz—“ Gabe started and stopped on seeing her shining. She started to grow only to shrink again right after and break from the light as a Charmander. “Evolution?” he murmured. She looked at him with a frown and then looked away. “You’re getting close.” Gabe went on. Liz nodded only once back. “Why did you stop just now?” A soft irritable noise was all Gabe would get back. Gabe’s lips pressed together hard before a sigh escaped from him. “Ok then.” He scooped her up and snuggled her. “I still love yoooouuuuu…” he teased. The Charmander immediately smiled and nuzzled him softly. Good.
