Motivation was a new thing. At least this was what Theo thought to be motivation as he had never really had much experience with it a few times. Once for sure. Had to be. But as soon as he had stepped foot into this new Region Theo dove in. The bureaucracy was almost enough to convince him that the lifestyle choice of a slacker was the right one for him but he held strong. Maybe it was the days of traveling with the briny sea air. Maybe it was the excited way Toxer took in their new surroundings. Maybe it was the 12 pack of energy bars and three coffees that he had consumed so far today. But regardless one thing was certain: he was ready.
Stepping out of the Birch city limits Theo took in the path ahead of them. The taste of salt was still fresh on the air. The grass was a pleasant sight to be had. He'd say he hadn't seen any since their ship left Virbank but there was barley any green to be had in the polluted city. So Theo stood, Toxer beside him as they witnessed nature unrestrained. The Croagunk murmured. Scratching at his belly before letting out into a deep stretch that looked so good his trainer had to follow suit. It forced a long yawn out of Theo as he took in the freshly recycled air. Reaching down he patted the top of Toxer's head.
What do you say we get some grass between our toes and make it a nice. Slooooooow cruise to Cedar town bud?" He smiled under half lidded eyes as the Croagunk's naturally tired gaze met his own.
"Gunk?"
"Yeah exactly. Nice and easy." Lighting up a cigarette in between his lips he dropped on to his rump in the dirt of the path. Grunting in exhaled smoke as he undid his shoes, peeled off his socks and let his little Tepiggies breath. A sigh of relief seemed only appropriate. Tying the laces together and shoving the socks into the shoe he fixed them onto his bag and was on his feet once more. The first few blades of grass slipping in his toes felt like a luxury massage. If it wasn't for all the caffeine in his system he'd contemplate a nap.
"Toxer, buddy. It's going to be a good day."

Note: Poison Touch in effect ---------------------------------
A good day indeed. It had been just after noon that they had pushed off. The sun just barely dipped to the west above them as a flock of wingull rode a high current of wind following it out towards the sea. A puff of smoke obscured them from Theo’s vision as he refocused his sight back to the field they were walking through.
A press of a button on the side of his headphones kicked a light beat into existence. Nothing too heavy. Just a little ditty by Counting Murkrows to add nicely to the ambience. Though the further they turned from the road it seemed that the field let way into some grass that seemed to have grown to its natural wild and long height. Toxer quickly lost his relaxed vibe as the grass met to his eye level though Theo was happy to pick him up and give him a lift onto his backpack. It had been something they had done for years. This particular Croagunk liked to take it easy, much like his trainer. It made for a nice and laid back vibe between the two of them though he had heard his father argue many times that it was not as promising to a trainer’s life as he might think. Yet here they were. Kind of making an effort for it.
A ringing cut through the music casually bumping from the headphones around Theo’s neck. For a moment he thought it had been a figment of his imagination but when he heard it again he quickly cut the music. Toxer groaned at the loss of the relaxing tune but another sharp ‘rrrrrrrrrring!’ carried over the tall grass. Even from his vantage point Theo couldn’t make the source right away. A hill raised up out of the grass to a cluster of large rocks that seemed to encircle the crest.
Slowly Theo crouched and made his way step by step along with the ringing that seemed more and more like metal on stone the closer they got. The trainer took a knee as they reached the slope of the hill. Toxer gently climbed down into the grass and padded up the hill ahead of Theo. A quiet ‘pssst’ was hissed at the Croagunk by his trainer but it fell on deaf ears. Almost as soon as Theo has made the noise the ringing had stopped from coming within the stones and much louder hiss slithered from the source to meet his ears. Immediately it brought a smile to Theo’s face. An Arbok! Or at least an Ekans. He wasn’t that great with identifying the difference but he had done some work with the two back in Unova when working with his father. The hiss hung in the air for a long moment before the ringing picked back up.
Chewing the corner of his lip Theo moved forward again this time with a renewed determination. His hands pushed off the grass in turn with his knees to reach the outcropping of rocks. Toxer was attempting to climb on to the closest rock but Theo reached out to stop him with a hand on his head. Finding a good place to plant his feet he pulled himself up to peer over the stones.
What he saw was a bit of a surprise. A large, and oh he meant large, black snake was coiled up against the far end of what appeared to be a nest. A nest with several large holes that seemed to burrow into the hill. This was clearly no Ekans or Arbok, the black scales weren’t in their coloring, nar were the golden crests that seemed to mark along its body. A pair of menacing red eyes watched him from behind it’s coiled body. Another pronounced ringing came hit him this time full force as he watched the Seviper drag it’s tail blade across a stone, adding to a slew of scratch marks that seemed to cover the surface of each of the rocks that surrounded the nest.
Theo prided himself in knowing one thing above all else: poison types. While there there were probably still plenty out there he didn’t know and many he knew but hadn’t seen in person this was one he was somewhat familiar with. Seviper were known for sharpening the blade on stones but there were far too many of them here for one all by itself.
Slowly the trainer brought his leg up to swing over the rock. A loud his seemed to warn him against entering but he rose his hands in peace and maintained eye contact with the Pokemon.
”Whoa there big fella.” He kept a calm and collected tone to his voice but maintained a confident gaze right back at the Pokemon.
”No one here wants to hurt you. You’re just gorgeous I wanted to say…” He noticed several patches of white fur that clumped in several spots throughout the nest. ”...’Hi’.”
His feet touched down into the nest and the Seviper quickly uncoiled and raised it’s form to stand at his height, red eyes examining the potential threat. Toxer managed to climb over the barrier of rocks and, seeing the Seviper, immediately fell into his stance ready to jab out with his fist. The Seviper picked up this body language and let out a loud menacing hiss as it brandished its fangs in the direction of the Croagunk.
”Hey now! Stop it! Toxer, back down bud. We aren’t fighting right now.” His voice rang with an authoritative tone that reminded him too much of his father. Stepping between the two he put his back to Toxer and met the Seviper head on. It refused to back down however, moving her stance to the opposite end of the nest ready to pounce. Theo noted the way it’s tail thinned near it’s bladed end and corrected himself.
”Right, girl. My bad.” Theo, holding his hands up, slowly folded his legs and eased himself onto the ground of the nest. He heaved a sigh of relief to take a load off and dared to let his hands down, grabbing a tuff of fur.
He twisted it between his fingers and looked at it closely. A few red strands were blended in with the rest. Letting them fall back to the ground before his he looked over to the Seviper with a look of concern and pulled out a new cigarette. Lighting it carefully though it seemed to jump as he sparked his lighter.
”It’s okay. I’m just getting comfortable. Is it just you here?” He asked knowing full well the Seviper didn’t have the capability of responding. But the way the anger dropped from her eyes for a moment to show sadness before pulling her front back up in full force confirmed it for him.
”You’ve had a fight or two huh girl? Looks like you got the upper hand on some Zangoose.” He gestured to several pairs of scratches that she had on several points of her body. The most prominent were too parallel scratches that seemed to have marked the golden crest sitting between her eyes.
”Doesn’t look like your friends were as lucky as you were huh?” Something in the air changed. The anger dropped for the Seviper’s eyes as she seemed to turn her attention away from anger and coiled herself up, laying her head against her body with a sigh as she did. Toxer had managed to slide his way into the nest though landed firmly on his backside. Content the Pokemon lounged back against the rock, closing his eyes content that there was a decent opportunity to relax.
”I’m sure you fought really hard to keep them all safe. You seem really strong to me, I’d hate to see that tail whooping you gave them that left this much fur laying around.” He smirked out of the corner of his lips, offering a weak chuckle to her as he took a drag. The Seviper looked to him for a moment before huffing and laying her head back on her body. Her tail snaked out to gently begin to whet against the stone, the ringing starting again but this time not as loud as the last.
”I wish I could help. I really do.” Theo pushed off the ground, letting out a groan as he stood up. With a few slow steps he cleared the distance between him and the Pokemon. The Seviper’s tail stopped rubbing against the rock as he did. The absence of the sound made him hesitate for a moment though he took a deep breath and continued moving forward.
Holding out his hand he slowly reached out til his hand touched the deep black scales. They were warm under his fingers which made sense but the way the scales shined one could swear that they were some metal or precious gem.
”I can’t say I know what you’ve been through. But I’ve lost people too. It’s not about feeling sadness for them, or trying to get revenge. But keeping strong for them. Keeping on and moving forward. You are strong to keep their strength going even when they aren’t around any more.” Reaching back to one of the two pokeballs he had brought with them Theo held it out before the Seviper. Toxer opened up an eye and watched as Theo did this, though stayed in his comfortable position.
”Do you want to tag along? No hard feelings if you don’t just...seem like we could all use some more friends.”
-- Attempting Befriend Capture of Seviper

Note: Poison Touch in effect ---------------------------------
The Seviper watched the ball closely. A soft hiss emanating from her as she turned back to the trainer then to the ball again, contemplating. Theo swallowed, watching as she slowly uncoiled. Turning her back to him she slithered around the nest. Taking in the sight of her nest before returning. Wrapping her large body around his legs she brought her head under his arm, nuzzling into him as she reached up and touched the Pokeball with her snout.
”Well aren’t you Precious.” Theo said with a smile as she converted to a brilliant glow of red energy and was drawn into the ball. It swung shut with a snap and the ball shook for a moment before settling letting out a satisfying ‘ding!’.
”Alright! First new Pokemon of the region and it’s a poison type.” Clipping his new partner onto his belt Theo took a heavy drag of his cigarette. Toxer looked unenthused about their new companion but he didn’t often get worked up one way or another. Theo crouched down next to him and pat him on the head. The Croagunk closed his eyes, ribbeting slightly as he leaned into his trainers hand.
After a moment the two locked eyes, Theo nodded off to the side and the two departed. Carefully making their way down the hill was much more difficult than going up but they had managed. The pair managed to find a somewhat tame path through the tall grass as they made their way north, the sun now starting to notably dip more towards the west as the afternoon set in.
Finishing his cigarette Theo brushed off the cherry on his shoe and put the butt into an empty pack, sure not to litter as he was all to familiar with the long term effects. They came back out to a road, For a moment they stopped so Theo could put his shoes back on and they continued. The road looked out over the beach, some sunbathers had posted themselves on the shores, a few kids playing volleyball as well. It filled the air with the music of a good time that pleased his ears. It was a welcome contrast from the hustle and bustle. Alarms and horns, large vehicles rumbling along. They were so brash in comparison to this sweet tune mixed in with the wild life.
The road swung inland, putting the beach behind a cluster of trees as the road led up to a small wooden bridge. It seemed pretty solid in structure. Definitely well traveled but no more than a foot path with maybe enough room for two to walk shoulder to shoulder. A clear river babbled under the structure. Before the could reach the bridge Toxer cut off Theo, stopping him in his tracks, and saunted down the bank to sit on a large stone next to the brook and brought water up to his lips with a pair of cupped hands. Theo followed behind him, finding a large rock to sit on nearby.
Note: Poison Touch in effect ---------------------------------
As Toxer wet his whistle Theo pressed a button on the headphones around his neck and started up some tunes. It took him a bit of cycling through to find something that fit his mood. He finally settle on the Screeching Sneasels. Keen Eye on You had always been one of his favorites. Fast paced with a silky beat it was what they in the business called a ‘toe tapper’. And tap his toes he did.
Unbeknownst to him a Slowpoke had made its way down the opposite bank from Toxer seemingly oblivious to...well. Everything. At least it would seem whenever you look at a Slowpoke. They never seem to really be fully there. Toxer stopped his sipping and looked across with a confused look as the Slowpoke walked over to the water's edge and turned. Placing his tail right in the water.
”Croa! Gunk gunk!” Toxer called back catching the attention of his trainer. Theo lulled forward and looked past his Pokemon. A bemused chuckle escaped his chest as he saw the creature.
”Huh? A Slowpoke. No kidding?” Pushing off his knees Theo took to his full height and grabbed a Pokeball off his belt. ”Toxer let’s give Dubbie the honors of this one. She hasn’t gotten any air time since we got off the boat.” The Croagunk waddled his way up the bank, plopped himself against the trunk of a tree and closed his eyes.
”Dubbie! Let’s rock this show!” The ball grew to full size in his hand and he tossed it to the air. The ball split erupting into a shower of crimson energy that focused down to the grown to form the adorable pink ball that was Theo’s Whismur. She looked confused around at her surroundings. The Slowpoke turned its head to face towards her, expressionless even by their own standard. Dubbie turned to Theo for a moment, muttering something barely audible before turning to face her opponent.
”Start him off with a surprise! Astonish!” Dubbie hopped down to the stone that Toxer had been sitting on and let out a quick, and surprisingly loud, shout. Her small arms waving as she did so. The Slowpoke seemed to have a slow look of shock come across it’s face as Dubbie seemed to have temporarily shaken him out of his stupor.
”Great! Now give her a pound while she’s still off her game!” Dubbie hopped her way across stones to approach the Slowpoke. It had just retracted its tail from the water, empty, and as Dubbie cleared the distance the Slowpoke let out a loud yawn right into her face.
Dubbie froze for a moment, mesmerised. Her mouth opened wide, much wider than the uninitiated would ever think it could go and yawned back even louder. The air hung for a moment between the two before Dubbie brought a small arm down to strike hard against the Slowpoke’s shoulder. The pokemon reared back, awkwardly slow as it took the hit. Seeming like it was falling backwards in slow motion.
Without warning it’s tilting changed course launching forward at a surprising rate for the Slowpoke and tackling Dubbie to the ground, trapping her beneath it’s form. Dubbie started to blubber, small sobs that seemed to pick up sound with each round.
”Use those tears Dubbie! Lean into it with an Echoed Voice!” The sobs built and built. Tears started pouring from her eyes and opening wide Dubbie unleashed a sonic shockwave of sadness as she wailed. The sound alone was enough to launch the Slowpoke off of her and up the bank of the river.
Bruised the Slowpoke moved off and into the treeline, her tail between her legs. Dubbie continued to cry, the snowball effect of her tears in full effect as she did so. Small arms covered her eyes as she did so she did not see a slimy blue tentacle working its way out of the water.
”Dubbie look out!” The Whismur turned to her trainer right as the tip of the tentacle turned a sickly purple and jabbed her in the side. Dubbie cried out though the cry turned into a wide, wide yawn and she slumped to the side beginning to snore. Theo cursed under his breath, he had forgotten about the yawn. A Tentacool had worked it’s way to the edge of the water and began to move its tentacles up and around it’s victim.
”Not today tough guy.” Holding out Dubbies ball the familiar line of crimson energy engulfed her and she was returned safely to snooze away in her Pokeball. ”Sleep tight sweetie you did good. Toxer?! It’s time to shine!” Toxer was already on his feet and stretching by the time his trainer called for him. As he walked past Theo couldn’t help but grin. He could feel a tingle going through his body, excitement. Another poison type Pokemon. It was definitely his lucky day. Normally Tentacool stayed near the shallow ocean but this one must have made its way up stream to look for food. His lucky star was definitely shining today.
The Tentacool turned as Toxer reached the shore of the river. A menacing look filled it’s eyes as its second tentacle rose about the surface of the water. With a flash of speed it lurched forward striking out to hit Toxer dead on causing him to dig his feet into the mud just to stay grounded.
”Don’t take that crap, Toxer! Hit him with a Mud-Slap!” The Croagunk nodded and in a fluid motion he launched a handful of the mud he had been standing in right into the face of the Tentacool. He dodged as a Poison Sting swung wildly over it’s head missing him by an inch.
”Great work, now ASTONISH!” The Tentacool glared down at Toxer as more of it raised from the water. The Croagunk stuck out it’s tongue and with one of it’s hands pulled down on it’s lower eyelid to make a RATHER rude face at the Tentacool. It was enraged at the gesture and seemed to be quite taken aback. Theo laughed at it’s confusion though that seemed to provoke it into letting out another barrage of poison sting.
Toxer took the hits head on, his arms crossed in front of him as the tentacles struck into his being. Thankful with him being a poison type Theo didn’t have to worry about any status effects but that still didn’t mean he wanted this to take any longer than it had to.
”Now! Knock it back with your Dynamic Punch!” A light formed at the tip of Toxer’s orange finger. He croaked as the energy seemed to intensify and with a swift action he jabbed the punch right between the eyes of the Tentacool. It was rocked back, kneeling into the opposite bank. For a moment it seemed as though it was coming back for another attack but it seemed confused as to which way to attack or at least confused how to maneuver itself in the water.
Theo pulled off the last empty Pokeball he had from his belt and chucked it full force at the Tentacool. A water Pokemon would be ideal to get any pesky ground types from sweeping out his team too fast but this Tentacool seemed to be quite a fighter.
Note: Poison Touch in effect ---------------------------------
”YES! LET’S GOOOO!”
Theo jumped down the bank to stand beside Toxer as the ball successfully bounced off the head of the Tentacool, scooped him up and then fell into the water with a ‘plop’. The two stood there for a moment. Watching as the water rippled away. Theo jumped into the water up to his shins plunging his hands into the water. He fished around the murk until his hand came across the smooth metallic surface of the pokeball. Grasping it he hoisted it into the air with a wide grin.
”Two for two Toxer. We are on a roll, you and I.” Wading to the shore was unpleasant as his feet kept getting stuck in the muck that coated the bottom of the river. By the time he got himself to the shore his shoes and lower pant legs were covered in the grime. The feeling of being wet alone was uncomfortable but getting soaked too? He didn’t know how Water pokemon trainers did it. Being wet all the time was not his idea of a good time though as he had just gotten his first Water pokemon he supposed he’d be learning to get used to it real quick.
Sitting on a stone he took off his muddy shoes and muddy socks, trying his best to wipe the mud off of his previously fresh looking kicks. Served him right for trying to go fashionable on an adventure. The sun was getting closer to the water now, the sky turning a vibrant shade of orange as they crept into evening.
”No use in sloshing all the way to the next town soaking wet. Seems to me we got us a solid excuse for setting up for the night.” The two found a small grove in a cluster of trees just off the road. Changing into a pair of dry shorts Theo hung his soaked clothes up on a Tree branch and started a small fire just as the sun slipped behind the horizon. Together with Toxer there was an attempt made at pitching the tent his father had given him for his journey but being the first time attempting to do it without his father's help it was short lived. There was nothing wrong with an open sky above you when you slept right?
So Theo sat against a fallen log, with his sleeping bag as a cushion beneath him as Toxer took his pillow for himself and began to saw logs. He lit a smoke for himself, took a sip of water and heaved a sigh. This was the life. Maybe his father had been on to something after all.
Note: Poison Touch in effect ---------------------------------
Toxer snored away as the night crept in and turned the sky to a deep bronze color. The surrounding areas were starting to dim out of view. While he finished his cigarette Theo placed his two new Pokeballs in front of him. He couldn’t help but feel some step of accomplishment in taking steps towards a stronger team.
Taking a picture with his phone the flash illuminated their metallic surface for a moment. Happy with the composition he started to put together a message to send along with it to his father explaining his first few catches when he heard a condescending laugh sounding through the darkness.
”Sending a picture to mommy to show her little muffin is catching Pokemons?” A thuggish man, bareilly older than Theo, stepped into the fire light. He leaned against a tree opposite the first, the flames flickering reflectively off a series of buttons and zippers that seemed to overly decorate everything he wore.
”Your girlfriend actually. Little bit of foreshadowing.” Theo scowled at him flicking the butt of the cigarette into the small flames between them.
”Thinking you’re cute huh? Want to put your money where your mouth is?” The man reached into his jacket and pulled a Pokeball from it’s holster. Seeing Toxer still sleeping Theo grabbed Precious’ ball and pushed himself on to his feet.
The two stepped off to the side of the flames. Within the light but the night had mostly taken their surroundings. With a toxic level of confidence the thug threw out his ball sending out a small foliage covered Pokemon he recognized from his own home region. A smile curled it’s way into the corner of his lip at the chances of fighting a grass type Pokemon.
”If only you stood nearly as much of a chance as you thought you did.” Holding the ball out before him he unleashed his Seviper just before him. Her much larger form looming over the creature before them. The dark snake let out a wicked hiss as she sized up her target.
”Pansage! Scratch this chump!” ”Precious, bite down on this pint-sized pipsqueak!”
They both jumped into action at almost the same time. Precious pounced down to strike the Pansage as it jumped to the air. The Seviper coiled up quickly as the Pansage landed nibbly. This time when the two jumped into action they met in mid air. Theo hadn’t expected the thugs pokemon, small even by Pansage standards, would be able to take the bite as well as it did but it seemed to leave a mark of its own leaving a scratch down Precious’ obsidian scales.
”Precious! Lick!” ”Play nice!”
Theo blinked for a moment at the thugs command to his pokemon. His Seviper seemed equally confused as she stopped for a moment. Thrown off by the Pokemon throwing up his small green paws as she charged him and offering a friendly smile. Glancing back to her trainer in confusion Precious cocked her head at the strange display and seemed to be thrown off. Still she leaned forward and with a long forked tongue licked her opponent. He seemed visually uncomfortable from the attack, a chill shivering up his tiny spine.
”Don’t take that crap! Lick it back!” The Pansage seemed to shake the discomfort for a moment and jumped forward to return the attack. Precious seemed quite taken aback, slithering backwards to shiver before her trainer at the small sage covered simian.
”Shake it off! Bite!” But she didn’t seem to be able to move. Theo’s eyes narrowed as he watched her frozen in either fear or disgust he wasn’t sure which.
”We got ‘em now Pansage! Scratch attack!” He charged with a flurry of tiny claws scratching across Precious’s scales. She hissed out in dismay as she was unable to move out of the way.
”Return!” Face contorted in horror he held out her Pokeball and the Seviper was pulled back in. He looked at the ball in sadness for a moment before placing it on his belt. He hadn’t thought about the face that having the type advantage doesn’t mean a thing without the right moves. Looking back to the fire he saw Toxer, standing backlit by the campfire, apparently having woken up during the battle. The thug and his Pansage were laughing at his discomfort though it was cut short as Theo called out.
”Toxer! I choose you!” They both switched from a moment of surprise before returning to determination. Toxer swung into the battlefield, charging the Pansage who in turn met his charge.
”Scratch!” ”Poison Sting!”
The two traded blows midair, landing on opposite sides of the field. There was a long moment that hung in the air. Looking up at Theo the Pansage seemed to be showing discomfort. His fur flushed and eyes reddened as he keeled over, succumbing to the effects of poison as he became unable to battle.

”Yes! Way to go Toxer!” Theo’s voice carried out as the Pansage fell to the ground. The shock of Precious’s loss behind him, he dropped to his knees and grabbed a hold of his Croagunk giving him a hug and rubbing his head.
”Ugh! Return Pansage.” The thug scowled as his Pokemon was pulled into his Pokeball and placed in his pocket. The two trainers locked eyes as Theo stood. The air electric with tension and it was a long moment before Theo shrugged, yawned and lit a cigarette.
”So what do you got for me? You were the one talking money and mouths right?” He punctuated with a cloud of smoke. Toxer, stretching himself, turned back towards the camp and waddled his way back to his spot on the sleeping bag.
There was a lot of grumbling and some choice language as the thug handed a small pouch over. At quick glance Theo saw a handful of berries and with a rude hand gesture he left the punk on the trail and went back to his camp. Flopping next to Toxer he went through the bag, adding it’s contents to his own backpack. A black and green Pokeball caught him off guard, he mulled it over a few times in his hands before giving a curious shrug and replacing it with one of the empty balls on his belt. None of the berry’s he had gotten would help Precious but he’d be sure to get her to a Pokemon Center the next day when they arrived in Cedar Town.
He relished in the fact that he had several other options with his Pokemon partners for the next day. Not a bad first venture into the world if he thought so. He climbed into the sleeping bag, resolved that his pillow was now Toxer’s and the two snored away.

The heavy thuds were the first thing to come to Theo’s mind as he woke. Normally he would have thought it was just his headphones left on or his alarm playing some trap beat but he felt the earth literally underneath him pulsing.
He begrudgingly opened up his eyes to see the crisp red sunlight of the early morning. When he rolled over however he froze immediately in his sleeping bag. His eyes laid on what was single handedly the largest Mareep that he thought to have ever existed. It had walked into the clearing just opposite the smothered remains of the campfire from last night. Squirming inside his bag to sit up he placed his back against the log they had been sleeping against.
Toxer, oblivious to the sheepish goliath in their wake, sat up from his claimed pillow. As his small blue arms stretched out he let out a mighty croak that suddenly made Theo very aware of their proximity to the creature. Bursting his arms from the cocoon of his sleeping bag the trainer grabbed his Pokemon, stood up and fell backwards over the log in one brisk motion. His legs were still bound in the partially zipped sleeping bag.
”GAH!!!!” Theo couldn’t help but exclaim as the earth got swept out from beneath him and suddenly rose up to konk him on the back of the head. A low groan escaped his chest as he recaught the wind that had been knocked out of him. His feet, in bag, waved back and forth above the log as he caught his breath.
”Toxer... He spoke weakly. ”Do you think it heard us?”
The good news was, the giant Mareep didn't seem to notice you. It's just discovered that those berries trees over there? Pretty darn tasty. As it rumbles away, giving you a wide berth to navigate around it if you so desire, the thick coat of wool surrounding its body seems to be.. moving. Like there's some extra appendage that's about ready to pop out and start flailing everywhere, like something out of a horror movie.
Eventually, whatever was within bursts free as the Mareep does an excited little food dance, the action making the ground rumble and shake like it would during a minor earthquake. The shape bounces down off the wool and goes plop on its belly in the dirt below, then eventually pops up to all fours and gives itself a little shake. Upon closer inspection, it appears to be...
Note: Poison Touch in effect ---------------------------------
Theo knelt motionless and terrified as the giant Mareep seemed to eat...trees. His arms were still wrapped tightly around Toxer who, based on his squirming, was not very happy with getting held that way.
”Shhh shhhh, just let it get a little...further?” His statement turned to a question as he saw what appeared to be a part of the Mareeps wool trying to break loose. Letting go of Toxer Theo leaned against the log for a closer look with some more cover. Much to his surprise when none other than a Bidoof popped into play. A freaking Bidoof?! Not like any he had seen before. At least in person that is. He hadn’t been in Arciel long but he had seen enough merchandising to know. But how else to commemorate a journey in a new region than with it’s national Pokemon?
”Rancid! Let’s see your stuff!” Theo vaulted the log, lobbing a Pokeball into the air. From the burst of crimson energy floated the small Tentacool, tentacles poised and ready to go as it floated just off the ground. The Bidoof seemed to notice them for a moment but made no moves, almost as if it were gauging their intent.
”Let’s see that Water Gun!” A stream of water shot from the bubble that encompassed Rancid as he hovered just off the ground. The Bidoof, apparently much more capable than it’s regional counterpart, jumped off to the side and charged the Tentacool. Rancid held its ground but seemed to regret so as the Bidoof jumped into the air and tackled him back to the ground. Rancid seemed to struggle for a moment getting up as the Bidoof jumped back, putting distance between the two of them. Seemingly it was preparing for another attack just as the Tentacool got himself upright. The scaled Bidoof jumped, tucked its head into it’s body and rolled towards them at a breakneck pace.
”Try to jump out of the way and rain down some Acid!” The Tentacool hocked a wad of steaming purple acid right into the Bidoof as it hit him head on. Theo’s Pokemon was sent flying back into his arms which he quickly returned with some reassurance.
”It’s alright buddy. We’ll get there.
He then turned to Toxer and the two nodded. The Croagunk stepped forward, loosening up his arms before falling into a fighting stance. The Bidoof, still spinning in his Rollout, swung back around for another swipe at the team. Toxer was tagged by the attack, the momentum built up from the last strike, but he was ready for it.
”Sting them now!” The Croagunk twisted around tag the Bidoof with a glowing purple hand as it went by. Though it was hard to tell if they had poisoned it with it moving around so rapidly. The Bidoof rolled up the trunk of a tree before coming back around again with even more speed.
”Meet them head on! Dynamic Punch!” Toxer jumped into the path of the speeding Pokemon, a glow taking to his fist as he wound up a punch. As the Bidoof approached he swung out full force and definitely made contact, but at the cost of being run down by the built up Rollout.
”Damn! That’s my fault buddy.” Theo rushed forward to help Toxer to his feet. The Croagunk croaked as it stood once more, the Bidoof rolling right for him. But something wasn’t right. This time it banked far off to the side, running headlong into the downed log they had used for cover. The swirling ball of scales and toothy furry unfurled to show an injured Bidoof that had injured itself in confusion.
”Oh snap! Quick!” Pulling out a Pokeball Theo tossed it at the creature. His tongue bit tight between his teeth as he hoped it would be captured.

”YES! Let’s GO! We are unstoppable bud-...” He started to lift up his Croagunk but there was a groan of resistance as he did so. Toxer had seen better days.
”My bad buddy. You’ve been killing it out here today. Why don’t you take a break. Our friends can help us out from here on. I’ll get us to a center before too long.” Pulling out Toxer’s Pokeball he withdrew him and began to break down their camp. It wasn’t much though the sleeping bag had been roughed up in the scramble and his pillow smelt suspiciously of Croagunk but he had everything packed away in minutes.
Touching to make sure that the embers were cool to the touch Theo headed out. Making his way North again he watched as the sun rose higher to in the sky to the east, over the top of the mountains that ran up the center of this region. He took a deep breath of fresh air, enjoying the taste of the morning before lighting up a cigarette.
It had been a great first stint of his adventure so far. He hadn’t expected the early and exciting start that had been presented to him but looking at it now it was a hysterical occurrence. He didn’t even feel the sluggishness of having no caffeine this morning. But almost as suddenly as the idea popped into his head he fished through his bag for an energy drink as he strolled, a stream of smoke left in his wake.
