Theo felt mildly air headed as he stepped out the gate of Birch City heading South East down Route 6. When he had arrived it seemed like too much work to be concerning himself with where exactly he was heading and having saw the Route with the lowest possible number assumed that was the way he had to go. Low and behold, upon arrival to Cedar Town, having found out that there was a whole other way to head out of the port town they had arrived in.
”See that’s what happens when you rush Toxer. You miss things.” Theo spoke through the corner of his mouth as he lit a cigarette. His Croagunk waddling beside him the but relaxed saunter that Theo took was slow enough to not push his much smaller legs.
”You run ahead, trying to be the best there ever was. Then poof. You miss that beautiful scenery.” Of course they got to meet that cute Levy girl but he wasn’t about to give Toxer the win like that. Instead the Pokemon let out an indifferent croak as they made their way down the path heading towards much rockier hills ahead and far in the distance the mountains made but the backdrop.
Nature had no shortage of wonders that would take your breath away in a moment. It just felt all the sweeter to gaze upon them when so much of your life was spent in the concrete jungle of Unova. Sure he had seen mountains many time before but seeing them ahead of him now, on his journey, they seemed to hold so much more potential and he couldn’t wait to get there.
”Well, lets see what we can find out here anyways bud.”
They had barely made it a quarter mile before Theo, driven by boredom, turned up some tunes. The sweet tune of Hoothoot and the Quilfish came from the inverted speakers from his headphones that he left turned outwards to add to the ambience. He hummed along with the rich voice of the lead vocalist as he left a cloud of smoke in their wake.
Toxer had gotten ahead of him some as he fumbled to get the music going. The Croagunk was getting much more exercise in the past week than he had over the few years that they had known each other. Sure they would battle occasionally at the gym but a good portion of their days were spent lounging in Theo's room or sitting in the stands of the Gym and cheering on the home team. Even when they took trips along with his father it was trains, planes and lounging in hotel rooms robbing the mini-bar. While he did miss the days spent in repose and the sweet sweet reprieve of uninhibited naps there was something about the way Theo had changed in this last month leading up to this journey that seemed right to the Poison Pokemon.
Mulling it over as it lazily watched the side of the path something green caught it’s eye. A glance over its shoulder confirmed that Theo was checking messages on his phone so Toxer took it upon himself to go investigate and peeled off from his trainer.
The apricorn was round and a bright green that reminded Croagunk of some of the many candies Theo had slipped him over their time together. Licking his lips Toxer plucked the green apricorn from its branch and went to pop it into his mouth. Right as Theo realized that his partner wasn’t beside him.
”Hey! What do you got?!” Theo’s neck snapped around as he took the tone of a concerned parent. The sudden call out made Toxer jump and he promptly popped the apricorn in his mouth. Theo cleared the space between them in a few long strides and he snagged the hand just after it deposited the Apricorn.
”What was that? Spit it out.” He pointed down at the ground sternly as he crouched down to the Croagunk’s level. His demand was met with a blank, emotionless stare back from Toxer’s half lidded eyes.
”Now Mister.” He cocked his head as he tried to intensify his glare. There was a long pause before, pushed through pursed lips, Toxer pushed the apricorn out with his tongue. It was covered in a long string of drool as it feel to the ground and rolled into Theo’s shoe. The trainer looked at it for a long moment before picking it up between his forefinger and thumb and doing his best to wipe it off on his pants.
”I love you buddy, but you worry me sometimes.” He half spoke and half laughed as he tucked the apricorn in his bag and started walking down the road.. ”Come on man.”
As Theo turned back to the road he saw a small, brown Pokemon standing up the path about twenty feet. It stood on its hind legs and examined them with large eyes. Theo knew this Pokemon all too well.
”Dope, a Patrat.” Toxer started to wander forward from behind him, ready to battle but Theo reached out to stop him. ”You’ll have your time to shine bud. But I think we gotta give our other friends some time to shine.” Reaching down to his belt Theo pulled out a Pokeball and threw Rancid out into battle. The Patrat leered at the Tentacool as he floated in his displaced bubble of water, long tentacles breaking it’s surface. It’s eyes shone bright for a moment and Theo saw a shiver run through his Tentacool’s appendages.
”Don’t let it get to you. Poison sting!” The tips of Rancid’s tentacles glowed with a purple energy as it rushed forward jabbing out with its tentacles. They struck the Patrat but it didn’t seem to succumb to the poison, instead jumping back and tackling into the Tentacool. It burst through the watery shell causing some of the liquid to splash in all directions as it struck and pounced effortlessly to the ground again. Theo grit his teeth and clenched his fists.
”Water Gun!” Rancid lifted its body and shot out a stream of concentrated water that splashed into the rodent Pokemon and knocked it on it’s side. He was up quick though, chattering his large teeth as he sprung up to tackle him once more. Rancid took the strike and dropped low to the ground, the sphere of water quickly reconstructing itself as the Patrat scuttled back and stood on his hind legs once more, watching.
”You doing alright there Rancid? You can tag out if you want.” As soon as he said the words the Tentacool shot him a look of determination. He could feel the bold Pokemon’s drive and it brought a wide smile to his face. ”Hell yeah, Acid that dude!” Rancid pushed himself up into the air with his tentacles and launched a large wad of acid out at the Patrat. It missed, hitting the ground right before it in a glop of steaming ooze. The Patrat leered up at him again when another wad of acid came down striking the Pokemon this time.
It shreaked in surprise and began to run around as it sizzled. Theo visibly jumped and moved forward quickly to try and kite it toward the river.
”WATER GUN! WATER GUN!” Rancid, with apparent concern in his eyes as well, chased along with Theo firing out more shots of water trying to spray away the acid. The third one hit it and managed to douse away the acid but not before leaving a fainted, panting Patrat. Theo grimaced as he picked up the small Pokemon. He ruffled his fur to make sure he was clear and tried his best to rouse the little guy. It took a moment or too but a pat on the cheek seemed to snap it back to attention. The Patrat starred at him for a moment in shock before jumping up, kicking off Theo and running off into the bushes. He knelt there for a moment, watching after before looking to Rancid.
”A little less concentrated next time bud.” He shook his head with a chuckle before returning him to his Pokeball.
With Rancid returned Theo looked over to Toxer, who had taken it upon himself to sit back and relax against a small tree just off of the path. It brought a smile to his eye to see his Pokemon having sought out a shady place to take a load off.
”I like the way you think, my guy.” Looking back the town was definitely still in view so they hadn’t made it far but what was a little five minute break after a brief but jarring battle. He really thought that little Patrat was in trouble there for a second but as he rubbed the spot where it had kicked off of him he couldn’t be too shook.
He sauntered over, swinging his pack off as he went and laid himself down on the grass next to Toxer. Positioning his bag as a pillow he rolled his hips to try and get comfortable. He pulled the cigarette, that had gone out in the panic, to his lips and relit it. Then rolled his hips again. There was a lump on the ground where he lay and he couldn’t get comfortable. Groaning in complaint he lifted up on his arms and swung himself to the side figuring the plaintiff was a rock or something but instead found, a Pokeball. Well a Net ball specifically, partially pressed into the ground and covered by the untamed grass.
”No kidding?” He puffed out a cloud of smoke as he dug it out with his fingers and pulled it free. He then swung back over and laid back, his spot now as comfortable as he had hoped it to be. Rolling it back and fourth in his hands he chuckled and held it out to show Toxer.
Just as you put the ball away, you hear a series of pattering footsteps, lumbering but a little fast. A long, heavy pink tongue slaps out of the bushes, just narrowly avoiding Toxer before it retracts. What was that?!
The answer becomes apparent when a trio of Lickitung emerge from the bushes, one significantly larger and of a different color than the others. It points at you, letting out a cry of "Lic-KY" in a tone that sounds definitely angry. What do? The rest of its posse looks like they're squaring up, ready to fight at the drop of a hat. Uh oh.

Theo had barely gotten his eyes closed when his tranquility was shattered. The flash of pink was all he saw before they were surrounded by a pack of rather intimidating looking Lickitung. It took Toxer a moment to react to the tongue, diving downward only after it had already safely passed over him. Clearly he was not in a battle ready mindset. Theo scrambled to his feet, grabbing his pack in one hand and Toxers arm in the other.
As soon as he had them both he swung around to stay facing the invading Pokemon. He had NEVER seen such an awe inspiring Lickitung in all his years. What was with this region and it's oversized Pokemon. First there was the Mareep the size of a shed and now the monstrous looking Lickitung. As if they weren't unsettling enough to begin with. Looking between Toxer and the three standing up to them he weighed their odds. They weren't great. Even if he pulled out the rest of them it would be a nail biter to come out ahead. Still...if he could get the drop and get the upper hand with Toxer’s fighting capabilities and enough fire power they could take these guys down…
His hand slowly reached towards his belt, where his Pokeballs were clipped. The largest of theme noticed and seemed to tense up as he did so. Toxer slowly moved in front of Theo, ready to strike at the command. As soon his his finger touched the metallic surface of Precious’s Pokeball the Lickitung lifted it’s massive foot and crashed it into the ground causing a fissure to erupt from the earth and the tree to erupt from its roots up.
”Hell no!” Theo threw his bag over his shoulder and scooped up his Pokemon. Cradling his Croagunk he turned to bolt up the road as fast as his legs could carry him. If there was one thing he knew his primarily Poison party was not ready to deal with something that big throwing around some Ground type moves. He moved as fast as his legs could carry him but unfortunately a life of reprieve and smoking did not make for the body of a sprinter.
Theo Veleno Thankfully, you manage to escape! The Lickitung don't seem too keen on chasing after you - for now - and as you put distance between you and them you can hear the sounds of rummaging, like they're going through and scavenging for some food in the place you vacated.
The distance Theo ended up running made up for a solid amount of the lackadaisical progress he had made before his...fateful encounter. But he couldn’t get too far down the road before his lack of stamina caught up to him. He came to a stop in the center of the road. Dropping to his knees he let down Toxer and laid back to the ground, letting his bag fall, as he panted to catch his breath. It was several full minutes before he could breath fully again. Toxer seemed equally as frazzled though watched over his trainer as he recovered.
They didn’t follow them but why he couldn’t be sure. He had just been so focused on getting out of dodge he never looked back. He sat up and pat his friend on the shoulder, taking in their surroundings. They had run clear to the foothills. The long flat stretches of land had become more broken up. Rolling mounds of land now laid out before them. It was nice but it was short lived as a wave of electricity lit up the hill just off the road. There was a loud caw in protest and a loud slam as what appeared to be a fight was taking place. Theo climbed to his feet, tossing his bag over his shoulder as he did.
The duo tread of the road and the battle was quickly apparent. A small, rather feathered, Rufflet was locked in combat with an Electrike. Quite viciously so. The bird was keeping the high ground though which brough an idea to mind. Flying types normally got the upper hand of Ground. So if Ground was such a worry it would probably do him good to get a flying type of his own. Toxer went to move forward but Theo stopped him with an outheld hand. With a flash he threw out a Pokeball that burst open to reveal his Salandit. An addition he picked up in Birch but hadn’t gotten around to yet.
”Izzard, my dude, let’s get that Electrike off our feathered friend there. Give him the Poison Gas!” The dark lizard Pokemon swiftly slithered into the fray. Jumping into the path of the Electric Pokemon it spragged out a noxious purple cloud that overtook it in surprise. It vanished for a moment before the a coughing Electrike burst through to tackle the Salandit head on. The two broke off and it became clear the gas had done it’s stuff alright.
The Rufflet took roost just out of range of the battle, seemingly surprised at the sudden help. Getting it’s breath the Electryke let out a mighty howl that shook the area. Izzard crouched, ready to strike though there was a visible worry as the empowered opponent loomed back towards him.
”Smog him buddy!” The Salandit let out a lighter purple smoke this time, it seemed to have a more acidic nature as it sizzled and hit the Electrike who tried to bank around it. The Electrike was swift as it banked around and caught the Salandit with another tackle. This one his notably harder, as he was tossed to the side, Theo pulled out the Pokeball and returned him before he could get any more buffed up. He already had another ball in hand though tossing it out as soon as Izzard was clear. Precious appeared on the scene hissing in warning as the Electrike sized her up. It was quick though, darting into a tackle attack before Theo could call out an order.
”Wrap it up!”
The Pokemon hit his Seviper hard but Precious wrapped her long body around the Pokemon and the two his the ground in a ball. She twisted tight and the Electrike cried out as it released a wave of electrical energy. It coursed through her in a pulse as it caused her to seize.
”Try to Bite her!” Theo called out in dismay though the attempt seemed to fail as the electricity coursed through his Seviper. The wild Pokemon slipped free of the coil, catching it’s footing and putting distance between them for another round of attack. Precious shivered and her color seemed to fade, Theo was visibly dismayed and went for her Pokeball. But she shivered and instead slipped out of her old skin leaving behind the paralyzation.
”Oh! Right. Duh! Bite her now!” He took note to remember this in the future. He owed himself a Paralyze Heal for that slip up. But that’s how you learn.
Both of them charged forward at blinding speed, Precious managed to side step the Electrike’s tackle and spun around to latch onto her back. The Pokemon howled in pain and as Precious released it she fled into the brush and in a moment all was quiet.
Theo ran forward and tackled Precious into a hug,.
”That’s what I’m talking about! You are an All Star girl.” He ran his hand over her gilded gold scales on her face for a moment before walking towards the branch that held the Rufflet. It watched them curiously as they approached though Theo made sure to keep his body language relaxed.
”Hey there. You’re a tough looking bird but looked like you were in a rough spot there. Thought my friends and I could give you a hand.” He tossed a thumb over his shoulder to wear Toxer and Precious had come together seemingly celebrating the victory.
”We have some trouble with Pokemon I think you’d do a killer job of helping us out with. What do you say we look out for each other?” He held out an empty Pokeball in his hand and offered it up to the bird.
==============
-One victory over Electrike -Attempt to befriend Rufflet
The bird sat from her perch in the tree and cocked her head to the side as the strange guy with purple hair gave his speech. Her eyes flickered up to watch the Croagunk and Seviper interact. Weighing the man and his companions debating about them as allies. Her mind was made by the time he held out and presented her with a Pokeball. With a ruffling of her feathers the Rufflet dropped from her perch and soared down to land upon Theo’s outstretched arm.
She was actually notably heavier than Theo had expected so when her full weight was bared on him his arm awkwardly and weakly lurched downward but the bird quickly pecked the ball and vanished. The flash of red energy made Theo smile and he looked back to the other members of his team.
”Count it! That’s a new partner guys! One that’s going to help our asses if we get in a pinch.” He looked at her ball lovingly and gave it a toss before retrieving Izzards. He had to send one so after a moment of decision he pressed the necessary sequence on the button of Izzards ball and it blinked away in a flash of light to his PC somewhere.
”I think we’ll call you Tallulah. You seem like a fancy gal with the headdress.” Rolling the ball for a moment more he shrunk it down and clipped it to his belt walking forward to do the same for Precious after giving her another pat. There was a moment then where he stood, quietly among the tall grass with his partner before him. The two looked at each other and Theo smiled at his friend.
”We’ve been having us some DAYS since we came here huh?” He lit a cigarette and the two strolled slowly back to the road. Toxer croaked at him in agreement, crossing his arms as they walked. He didn’t go for music, instead opting to enjoy the sound of the day. Take the moment of silence when he could.
He was tired but this...this was a good tired. He was doing things and participating and yeah that took energy. But looking over his team and the strength they were building together he knew it was energy well spent.
"Once we win this whole thing we're going to take a nice long staycation buddy. A nice long staycation."

A rather serious trainer was walking down the opposite way of the road. Beside her stroke a Chikorita though it didn't seem as laxed as the Croagunk. The two locked eyes and Theo gave her a upward head nod as they walked by.
"Really?" She asked abruptly as they fully passed one another. Turning on her heel and placing her hand on her hip.
"What?" Theo turned to blink in her direction, face soaked in confusion.
"I'm a trainer...what are you new? Don't you want to fight?" She seemed to be equally confused as her sleepy quarrel. He shrugged in response.
"Sure. Seems like some effort but if you're into it I'm down." He scratched his chin and took a drag of his cigarette before looking down at Toxer who nodded solemnly in agreement.
"Well you're up first bud." Theo stepped back, the woman doing the same, and they gave the Pokemon distant on the road. There was no one else out so they might as well.
"Razor Leaf!" "Sting her."
A flurry of foliage took to the air whipping towards Toxer as he ran through them towards his target. He was riddled with small cuts but as soon as he was close enough he struck out with a glowing purple fist.
The blow hit but the poison didn't seem to take effect. Theo sighed and took another drag of his cigarette as he thought.
"Taunt them, Toxer." The Croagunk jumped back and presented and open palm, pulling his fingers towards him twice in a 'come here' gesture as he grinned. The Chikorita growled in frustration and ran into a full Tackle before her trainer could order her.
She struck Toxer head on sending the two back in the dirt where they tumbled apart. The Chikoritas breath became labored and there was a flush to her cheek telling him that Croagunks Poison Touch had taken effect. They were both back on their feet in a moment though.
"Synthesis!" The trainer called out but her orders fell on deaf ears. The Chikorita whipped together another Razor Leaf attack.
Mud-Slap!" The shouted out, starting to get into the battle. Toxer took an assault of leaves to his back as he formed a mud ball, turning to launch it at the opposing Pokemon as soon as the attack was finished. It caught the Chikorita in the face causing her to cry out. He weighed it out and the Chikorita and Toxer seemed pretty hand and hand damage thanks to him having the type advantage but the trick with Grass was keeping them from healing. He remembered that much, there was no lack of Grass Poison Pokemon.
Taunt her again!" Toxer once more gave her the mocking gesture leading to another full on tackle. This one caught him just right however dealing far more damage than he had wanted it too. Toxer couldn't take much more hits. Advantage or no this girl had obviously worked much more with her Pokemon before this battle. He held out a hand and called.
"Toxer, tag out!" The Pokemon heaved a sigh and waddled over to lazily lean in his leg and slide down to a sit. Pulling out another ball he bounced it for a moment before throwing it.
"Tallulah! Let's see what you've got!" There was an echoing caw as the Rufflet materialized. She soared up and twisted around before hovering down just above where they were.

Theo smiled as the trainer across from him grit her teeth. She wanted to heal bad but he had worked her into the corner he wanted. All that was left to do now was take out the Chikorita before it could heal up and play it from there.
”Peck attack Tallulah!” ”If you’ve got to attack at least Tackle them!” The trainer roared in frustration and as Tallulah dove for an attack the Chikorita charged to meet her. They met each other with force ending with both of them scrambling in the dirt. The Chikorita was about spent but there was no doubt that it hit hard!
”Don’t give her a chance to recover! Peck her again!” Tallulah took to the sky. Building the altitude for a powerful attack.
”Razor Leaf! Try to slow its momentum.” Her Pokemon released a flurry of leaves that met the rushing bird Pokemon. They dealt the damage to her but she persisted and drove through to Peck the opponent.
She had had enough. The Ace trainer returned her Chikorita reluctantly and placed her with the rest of her team. She next tossed out a Litwick. The small ghost floated with a flourish into combat.
”Smog them right away!” The flame of the small candle emitted a whirlwind of noxious smoke that overtook the bird Pokemon. Tallulah coughed and sputtered as she tried to get away from the gas. She managed to fly out of the cloud but the cough persisted and the damage was done.
’Hone Claws Tallulah! Let’s make our next attack count!” The Rufflet sputtered and coughed but her claws and beak glowed with a dark energy as she fortified herself.
”Now get in there and peck! Quick!” And she dove. Picking up speed but the trainer opposite him cracked a smile.
”Fire Spin!” They had played right into it. The candle on the Litwick changed up to a bright red as a fiery tornado engulfed around the fluttering bird. Her peck attack missed as she flew in circles trying to get free.
”No! Come on! Get out of there Tallulah!” Theo cried out, grabbing her Pokeball in his hand ready to return her but he couldn’t get a clear shot. She cawed in fear. The tornado tightened for a moment and singed the edge of her feathers. But in a flash of flames she burst through driving into the small wax Pokemon with her beak. Theo yelled out in excitement but still returned the bird not wanting to push her too much further.
”You’re good!” He exclaimed taking a last drag if his cigarette before putting the cherry out on the side of his shoe. His hand ran over the Pokeballs that held his team. He could think of a few good matches to put up against this Pokemon but her felt bad for relying so much on Precious. The Pokemon was hurt but not nearly enough for Rancid to have a chance.
”Pearl! I choose you!” He lobbed out the ball and it burst forth in the form of a Dragon Bidoof. She yawned for a moment and rolled across her back, tail wagging in the dirt as she wriggled her large teeth.
”Relax later! Battle time! Gimme that Rollout!” Theo pointed out a finger at the Litwick who’s trainer scoffed. He only had the one move with her that would really help them out but at least it was a Rock type move. As Pearl curled the Litwick released another gust of the sickening Smog that rolled over the battlefield engulfing Pearl. But she broke through! Still effected by the smog but refusing the poison and flashing forward as a hard ball of beaver fury.
It struck with a vengeance knocking back the small candle. Super effective! Pearl rolled off to the side looping around for another assault on the Pokemon.
”Minimize!” The ghosts already small stature shrunk as Pearl came in for another pass missing the target entirely. She came to a stop losing the momentum she had barely picked up.
”Again! Rollout!” ”Fire Spin!”
As Pearl rolled into another charge the Litwick worked up a wall of flame that overtook the two. The Bidoof rolled into the flames but found herself stuck in the slowly retreating circle of flames. Still she persisted, keeping the momentum going and again finding her mark to strike the Litwick. It winced back against the attack, taking the brunt of the damage and closing in the walls once more.
”Astonish!” She cried out and the Litwick closed its eyes and revealed them again in some odd rendition of peek-a-boo that let out a wave of ghostly energy. It rocked the Bidoof but did not prevent her final strike.
She hit the Litwick once more and sent him flying to land at his trainers feet. Unable to get back up. She returned her second Pokemon begrudgingly and pulled out her last Pokeball. Theo returned Pearl as well, figuring a fresh start would do them good and stop the vicious cycle the Chikorita has started. They locked eyes and nodded both tossing their final ball at the same time and a flash of light left Dubbie staring down a Starmie that stood a full foot taller than it.
Dubbie looked over the Starmie for a moment before taking a few small and bashful steps back. Her opponent seemed limber, flipping and spinning on its spot ready for a fight.
”Pound ‘em Dubbie!” Theo called out with a smile. Sure in her abilities but as she wound up a strike the Ace Trainer spoke.
”Psybeam!” One of the many arms of Starmie reached forward releasing a fluorescent light of energy as it shot a beam out that struck Dubbie full on causing her to whimper and brace herself. Only when it was over did she lash out, small arm battering into the Starmie knocking it back as well.
”Astonish!” ”Rapid Spin!”
The Starmie began to spin but as Dubbie open her small eyes she let out one quick and reverberating yelp that rocked out a wave of energy causing the Starmie to flinch in it’s place. Theo couldn’t help but laugh out loud at their luck and jump right into a follow up.
”Echoed voice! Let’s GO!” Dubbie’s ears perked up atop her head and she opened her mouth wide, much wider than it had seemed possible a moment before and she let out a cry that caused a shockwave to ripple through the air. It crashed into the Starmie and sent it spinning backwards to regain its footing next to the Trainer.
”Rapid Spin! And get it right this time!” The Starmie jumped into the air and hurled itself forward spinning rapidly to cut through the air. Dubbies cry stopped and as her ears drooped back down she was struck to the ground by the spinning Pokemon. Another cry out but not of the Echoed variety though her cry still seemed to carry in the trees around them.
”Again Dubbie! You can do this!” Her maw unhinged and she held it wide as she let out another burst of the shockwave this time stopping the Starmie mid strike as it came through for another him. It rocked back and clearly had its effects on the Pokemon.
”Water Gun!” Three of the Starmie’s arms came together each firing out a stream of water that rocked Dubbie hard in her face. She flipped back skitting against the road where Theo stood and he bent down to help her up. She wheezed and whimpered as was her nature but he reassured her with a nod and she sniffed before standing on her own and turning to face the Starmie once more. The echoes of her cry still lingered, louder than before and he knew it would hit a hell of a lot harder now.
”Finish that pipsqueak. Rapid Spin.” The Starmie jumped into the air and spun. Shooting itself forward like some sort of shuriken.
Before the words could leave his mouth Dubbie opened wide once more, her eyes twisted in determination and let out a sound that caused Theo and the trainer to cup their ears. The foliage around the trail shook and Theo swore he could see the shockwave as it overtook the Starmie and shot it back into its trainer, the pink glow of it’s gem flickering as it was no longer able to battle.

Theo won and the Ace Trainer lost but she did it with grace. Obviously still a little surprised that the slacker she confronted on the road turned out to be a capable trainer despite his more lackadaisical attributes.
”It was a good match. If you had a full party I’m sure you could have taken me out.” He shook her hand and she awarded him a handful of items, some cash and most notably three blue candies individually wrapped.
”Are those?” She nodded before he could finish the question, pivoted on her foot and continues on down the road. Once she was out of sight he threw his hands into the air and did a small jig of excitement. A thrilling battle none the less. There wasn’t a dull moment in this region. Of course if he gave it half a thought it directly correlated into how much he tried. After a moment he stopped dancing and fell into thought. Looking over Toxer and Dubbie he retrieved a third ball and released Rancid before him as well. The three looked among each other and he knelt down, unwrapping the first of the candies.
”You guys have been killing it and now we reap the reward.” He handed the first candy to Toxer who, thinking it was any old candy, ate it instantly. The second went to Dubbie who shly considered it before gently placing it in her mouth. The last he held out to Rancid, who awkwardly floated over his palm and after an indescribable feeling on his palm sent a shiver down his spine he floated back, the candy vanished. e watched as the three chewed and finished their candies though no real visible change was had. They were all still fairly low level so he hadn’t expected anything drastic.
Still he beamed over them for a moment. Proud of his team and how they were developing along. He looked down to his belt and retrieved Dubbie and Rancid’s balls but as he did he heard a rustle. Looking up he saw a Stantler. Tall and majestic staring down at him from behind the three other Pokemon. Without realizing Theo held his breath as he took in the wonder. The others turned to look as well. It was a beautiful moment.
Until the Stantler turned and bound off down the path, kicking up a cloud of dust at the three of them as it did so. They each hacked and coughed in turn though Theo swear he heard a snicker from the wild Pokemon as it took off.
”Rude.” The commented and he returned Dubbie and Rancid, spitting a mouth full of dust into the dirt.
