By the time Soph's lengthy battle with the fairy-type had finished, Prance had ran quite a bit ahead in the process of chasing Caprice down. The fire-type dropped the green gemstone on the road in front of her. Shalin slid off her Stantler's back to retrieve the gem, examining it for a few moments to let Soph catch up somewhat. She found only a couple of surface cracks and impurities. "Nice find!" Caprice let out a cute bark after Shalin pet the fire-type's head.
Putting the gem away with her other ones, Shalin was about to swing back aboard Prance when she saw how far behind Soph was. Riding her Pokémon would only tempt her to try to beat this weather even faster. By now, the dark clouds were about to cover the sun up. Shalin waved Soph up toward where the path to Pine Town started to take a more steep incline. There wasn't a lot of ground to cover, but any sort of precipitation, or Arceus forbid freezing rain, would make travel next to impossible. Worst case scenario, they could pitch a tent at the foothills and Caprice could keep them warm. Hopefully Soph had brought a Fire-type so the two could work in shifts in that case.
After gathering up the Pokeball and letting it transfer back to her storage, Soph looked up to see just how far ahead Caprice had led her trainer. Oh, boy... They really best get a move on. Returning Bam, she released her Drampa and hopped on the dragon's back. They made their way over to Shalin and Soph gave a somewhat sheepish smile. "I trained her how to fly with a passenger, so, um... she could probably handle you too, if... I mean, if you're comfortable with it," she suggested.
It wasn't that Soph had been hiding her own rideable Pokemon. It was just that Mati had a tendency to be a little... mischievous. So she avoided really riding if she didn't have to. "Or she and I can stay out of the sky and just go alongside you and Prance."

Shalin's eyes lit up the moment she saw the large, levitating Dragon-type. "Perfect!" There would easily be room for both of them up there, without Shalin having to mistakenly squeeze Soph. The last thing she wanted to do would be accidentally hurting her. As much as she liked a bouncy run on Prance, she could not turn down a new experience. If she really liked it, she would have to track down one of these Pokémon later!
Shalin slid off Prance's back, recalling both of her Pokémon. "Sorry girls, but I think this is going to end up being faster." She was about to jump aboard Mati like her other Pokémon, then realized one, Mati was Soph's Pokémon, not hers, and two, she could wind up injuring Soph with such a maneuver. She instead gently braced both her hands against the Drampa's soft scales before swinging her leg around. "Her scales are almost like clouds - wonder how they're so tough," Shalin asked Soph as she finished climbing on behind her. "Let's go! This beats climbing up that steep road any day!" Depending on how fast Mati could fly, the impending weather could be a complete non-issue now.
Shalin's excitement was a little infectious and the black-haired woman giggled a little. "She may be soft to the touch, but she can and will play tricks so just be prepared for her to flip or something," she warned. The Drampa turned her head around to look at the new person and reached back to nose the blond, sniffing a little before turning back ahead when Soph gave her a pat on the neck.
"All right, Mati. Let's get going," she instructed and the dragon took off into the sky. She wasn't super fast, exactly, but certainly faster than the humans would be on foot and should be plenty fast enough to get them to the town before the weather got too bad. They might get stuck in a little bit of the storm in the tail end of their trip, but most likely they'd be fine. Just as Soph had warned, the Pokemon did a few questionable maneuvers over time too. A sideways roll here, a sudden (although not too deep) dive there, and even a back flip at one point. Every time, the black-haired woman turned her head to check on Shalin.
Play tricks? Now that sounded exciting. "Hey! That tickles!" Shalin cried when Mati's nose brushed a sensitive spot. She briefly took one hand off the dragon to scratch where she was tickled. Better it to be a distraction now than while flying. Speaking of flying, Shalin braced herself for a sudden takeoff at Soph's command.
It didn't come.
The leisurely takeoff surprised Shalin, the three levitating above the valley and gaining altitude with each passing moment. Pine Town was already in sight, though a good distance away. Her gaze shifted toward the steep hills below - she was glad she suggested flying instead of trying to hoof it the rest of the way. There was no way they would have made it before the weather came. Even now, the temperature had dropped significantly from when they began their trip. There was a nasty cold front coming in fast. "She seems tame for NOOOOOOOOOOW--"
As if on cue, the Drampa suddenly jerked toward the coastline, performing a quick barrel roll that caught the girl off guard. She had to awkwardly shift back to her left to remain balanced. "You might need a harness for her, Soph!" Shalin laughed, smiling as their mount picked up the pace and minimizing unintended turbulence despite the increasing wind.
Once the three had passed over the steep hills, Pine Town's north gate was in sight below. Mati steepened her angle somewhat, but it looked like she was going to overshoot the gate by quite a wide margin. Shalin instinctively squeezed Soph's Pokémon a bit harder with her legs, leaning forward as much as she could without bumping into the dragon's trainer.
Just as the three passed over the gate, Mati suddenly rocketed upward, Shalin's strong legs all that was keeping her aboard as the rest of her body whiplashed backward. "Yeehaw!" she let out a loud cry, the force of the loop getting her pumped. She expected a steep dive toward the north gate, a crazed grin on her face...which slowly faded when Mati slowly spiraled downward to kill her speed and make a graceful approach to the outskirts of town.
Shalin's breath became a bit heavier after the quick loop. Good thing Mati had put on an extra bit of juice--those were raindrops she felt. And cold ones, at that.
The timing of Shalin's remarks about the Drampa being tame and the first instance of Mati doing her tricks caused the black-haired woman to snicker a little. With a nod back to the blond about the harness, Soph figured that under normal circumstances, she should be fine but it would probably be less scary for her if she got a harness.
While Shalin was having her fun, the farmer was getting a little nervous the closer they got to Pine. She could tell that her Pokemon was having fun, which usually meant one of two things. Mati was having so much fun, she was going to continue getting a little more rambunctious over time OR she was going to calm down soon, pleased with what she'd done. Soph had a weird feeling this was a situation for the former and was proven correct... unfortunately for her.
Just as they slowed as if Mati was going to just calmly land, the dragon hovered just off the ground and suddenly arched her back, sending her trainer flying. Despite being prepared and knowledgeable, poor Soph just wasn't built for that sort of thing. If she trained for it, she'd probably be fine but... that left Shalin atop a fluffy dragon that was having fun acting like a rodeo bull.
The moment Mati started thrashing Shalin, she was in the zone. The two snaked in circles above the overlook north of Pine Town, the girl lurching back and forth as the Drampa erratically zigged and zagged not too far above the ground. She couldn't help but let out a shout at the top of every particularly powerful turn, the backs of her hands red and white after a few of them. Mati flew around the overlook in progressively tighter circles, Shalin letting out a joyous scream that would have echoed for quite a distance, if not for the weather that started to hit. Oh, Arceus. She had forgotten for a moment that freezing rain was coming.

With tremendous agility and power, Mati suddenly reversed direction, Shalin being almost immediately thrown to the thick grasses covering the overlook. She brought her legs in during her fall, allowing her to roll across the grass and mitigate the impact...but at a much higher speed than she would like! She zoomed past Soph, perhaps close enough to graze her, toward the town's north gate. Thankfully there was an incline to help kill her speed. She was hyperventilating once she came to a stop. "Whew...!" she sighed. "She's...pretty wild! A little too much...but I bet I could...conquer her with some practice...!" She flexed her arms and legs before sitting up on the wet grass. A couple of bruises, but no real injuries. Nothing a little first aid couldn't fix.
Instinctively, Soph was worried and fearful both for Shalin's safety (and her Pokemon's) but also that the blond would be upset! Of course, that was before she remembered that the other girl enjoyed this sort of thing. Knowing that helped the black-haired one to relax at least a little as she watched her Drampa give her friend quite the ride. Once Shalin was thrown off, Mati looked amused and pleased with herself.
Soph, on the other hand, let out a squeak, startled by the speed with which the rider was flung across the ground and worried about injuries. She'd jumped a little, causing Shalin to just barely brush by without actually hitting her at all, but then hurried over just as the girl was righting herself. With the reaction, Soph emitted a sigh of relief and bewilderment. "You... really do like stuff like that, huh? I'm just glad you're safe. Maybe you could ride her again... later." That was a big maybe. It was a little unnerving for the poor farmer, but she could get over that if it meant Shalin had some fun.
Offering a hand to help the other girl stand, Soph would glance over to the gates of Pine. "We made it, though," she offered with a small laugh. It may have started to rain a bit, but they'd evaded most of the storm. She'd take a moment to offer Mati some pats and thanks for flying them and then return her Drampa to her Pokeball. Afterward, she and Shalin would be able to head into town to avoid the worst of the weather.
