Eric stretched his arms above his head taking in the warmth of the morning sun. The well worn dirt path of Route 1 was long and winding over the various grassland hills and slopes before him. It was a beautiful sight and constantly reminded him of why he loved the outdoors so much.

Having just dealt with his near disastrous first meeting with his feisty Hawlucha and new partner - Asura at the Birch City Lab, the blonde haired young man was all too eager to begin his journey through the Arciel region. "Hopefully this adventure will curb some of Asura's battle hungriness!"

He muttered to himself as his hand flew down to his belt right over where the Fighting/Flying type's pokeball laid. "Right! Let's keep him in there for a little longer, or at least til I run into something to fight..." He chuckled nervously - definitely not wanting a repeat of the Lab. Eric wasn't sure his head could take another suplex...

"A Seviper, eh? Alright! Let's show em what we can do, Asura!" He yelled as he throw out the pokeball holding his one and currently only Pokemon - the Fighting/Flying type - Hawlucha. "HAWWWW!" It crowed loudly as it's keen avian eyes focused on the the pokemon before it. "LUCHAAAA!" It shouted as it poised to attack the snake looking pokemon.

"Wait! Asura, don't-" The shiny Hawlucha ignored it's trainer as it rushed at the enemy giving the poor Seviper no time to react before it started laying into the creature with a vicious Tackle followed up with a Karate Chop to it's prone form. The Seviper thrashed as it was mercilessly beaten snapping Eric out of his stupor as he threw out a pokeball in hopes of saving the poor mon' from the misery it was being inflicted with. "Pokeball, go!"

Eric sighed as the Seviper broke out of it's pokeball and fled, no doubt done with the violent Hawlucha's crap. "Well, guess we'll continue..." He mumbled before returning the aggressive shiny pokemon back into it's pokeball with the intent of continuing his journey. Checking his bag he noticed he was low on pokeballs too. "One pokeball left..." He frowned thoughtfully.

"Looks like after this run we'll have to make a quick pit stop back to Birch City." He said to himself obviously not very happy at the thought of backtracking, but knowing it was pointless not to. "Right, here's hoping we can turn this into something positive!" He hyped himself up, not letting a few setbacks put him down. "Let's go!"

After some time debating, Eric decided to head back to town to get some more pokeballs. Luckily he was only on Route 1 so the trek back wasn't painful or anything. He managed to buy two more pokeballs lamenting on his lack of Pen and secretly hoping he could find better ways to get more. On his way back to Route 1 he walked past a cute water fowl pokemon but generally ignored it as it was ways away from him. His being in higher spirits he continued his way through Route 1 intent on finding a pokemon or two, to fill out his pretty sparse party.

[Attempting to Befriend Vulpix!]

Upon the trail Eric came across a Vulpix. He thought it was the most adorable thing ever and honestly feared sicking Asura on the poor thing. Hawlucha would absolutely destroy the fire fox pokemon and the blond haired trainer couldn't bear seeing another Seviper incident. So, in hopes to get it to his side, Eric attempted to befriend it.

Cooing and gently kneeling down enough to appear nonthreatening. Hoping to get it's favor. He realized he had some pokemon food in his bag and tossed a few at it, before inching slightly closer showing he meant no harm. "Come on little buddy, I won't hurt you..."

Hoping he got the little fox pokemon to relax enough, he pulled out a pokeball and brandished it to the creature. "Hey, wanna go with me? We can be friends and go on awesome adventures!" Hoping the pokemon would let Eric catch it.

Green eyes peered at the pokeball on the ground with shock and unrestrained glee. He caught his first pokemon! Jumping for joy he quickly ran over to the captured Vulpix, cradling it in his palms with near reverence. "I did it..." He spoke almost breathlessly, giddiness overtaking him. "I'M AWESOME!" He cheered as he jumped around looking something like a loon for a few moments before he calmed down still breathing hard.

Adding the pokeball to his belt he grinned having finally composed himself before scanning the horizon eager to continue his journey. Making his way down the winding road only to pass a source of water noticing a Starmie basking on the water's surface lazily.

Freezing, Eric pondered on what pokemon to use - on one hand he wasn't very keen on calling forth Asura - but on the other Vulpix had a clear disadvantage type wise. And in all honesty he needed to bond with the shiny Hawlucha sometime. He couldn't let this craziness continue!

"Go! Asura!" He yelled as Hawlucha appeared in a flash of white light - the aggressive humanoid bird looking around through the fog turning towards it's trainer with an intimidating stance. Eric took a step back, but then stopped, pushing back his fear as he held firm.

"No..." He murmured his expression going fierce as he unknowingly activated his Aura Sight, it's acidic green glow gleaming dimly in the foggy light - giving an eerie appearance to the teen. "Asura! You can't keep doing this! We either work as a team or don't work at all!" He yelled no longer feeling as afraid as he did before.

"We gotta work together, you hear me?!" He shouted as the shiny Hawlucha looked... surprised? Eric could also sworn he felt the pokemon's emotions for a moment, but dismissed it as his mind playing tricks on him. "Come on... Let's do this together... please?" He nearly pleaded not wanting to fight the pokemon this way, his first pokemon at that. And his partner. Asura hesitated for a moment before nodding as he grudgingly agreed - unbeknownst to it's trainer, Eric had just won a tiny sliver of the Hawlucha's respect.

"Alright! Let's do this! Attack with a Tackle followed by a Karate Chop!" For the first time ever, Asura obeyed it's trainer attacking with intense speed and strength as it lunged full body at the Starmie sending the starfish pokemon flying before following up with an equally powerful Karate Chop. The Starmie recovered however and countered with a Rapid Spin.

Eric was quietly relieved that the pokemon didn't seem to be pulling out any psychic moves but was nonetheless prepared for anything. "Let's finish this, Asura! Hit it with another Karate Chop!" The blond teen ordered as the Hawlucha sent a devastating hit to the water/psychic pokemon - sending it off balance enough for Eric to throw a pokeball. "Pokeball, go!"

Eric was over the moon that Hawlucha actually listened to him! Grinning he thanked the pokemon before returning it to it's pokeball without much fanfare. Picking up the captured Starmie he added it to his belt and began to make his way onward. He was hoping to catch at least one more pokemon before wrapping up his adventure on Route 1 and moving on to the next town.

Eric was surprised when his foot bumped into a stray Dusk Ball on the ground - unused. It must've been dropped by a clumsy trainer or something akin to it. Well, there loss his gain! Picking it up he added it to his duffel bag and continued on his way, wondering what else he would run into. Pokemon or lost item alike.

As Eric walked down Route 1 he noticed a young man who sat atop a rock strumming his guitar of all things. The trainer glanced at the green eyed youth with a bit of amusement before he spoke. "Guess you're on your way to Cedar Town, yeah?" The Rocker asked inquisitively.

Eric smiled "Yep! I'm hoping to start the Gym Challenge in Bass City, I wanna become Champion!" He said with immense passion only to receive a chuckle in response. "Well Mister Future Champion, how about a battle? You'll need all the experience you can get before you can take that title!" The rocker stood up guitar hanging from it's strap on his person as he pulled a pokeball from his belt.

Eric smirked as he too pulled out a pokeball of his own belt. "Of course! You'll be my first step of my journey! Go! Helios!" In a flash of white a cute though larger than average Vulpix appeared as it looked around before preening. The Rocker named Rui looked cocky as he noticed the teen sent out a fire type - he had this in the bag! "Go! Chinchou!" The Guitarist yelled as the water/electric type appeared in another flash of light, it's feelers moving up and down slightly.

"Hope you're ready to be shocked and awed! Chinchou! Use Water Gun!" A stream of water was blasted from the pokemon's mouth at the fox - but luckily Eric had his wits about him. "Helios! Dodge and use Ember!" Said pokemon barely dodged the water attack before peppering the Chinchou with small bursts of flame, luckily burning it. "Oh no, Chinchou! Hurry and user Supersonic! Confuse it!" The Supersonic hit it's mark causing the Vulpix's senses to go haywire. It was confused! "Helios! Damn it... Use Disable!"

Luckily, the pokemon managed to keep enough of it's wits to properly cast Disable on the water/electric pokemon disabling it's Supersonic for a bit. Unfortunately, Helios was still confused and thus using any attacks at the moment was detrimental to it's health. "Use Water Gun again!" This time the small pokemon got hit square by the Water Gun, hurting it a lot but luckily not knocking it out. It hung on just enough to snap out of it's Confusion! "Alright! Helios! You okay buddy? Let's finish this up with an Ember!"

Luckily, as the fight progressed the Chinchou was still affected by it's Burn status slowly winding down it's stamina and health - the two opposing pokemon were nearly on their last legs. It was now up to whoever was quickest! Here's hoping luck was on his side! "Use Water Gun!" Fire and Water collided sending up a blast of steam around the area - the winner uncertain until it cleared revealing....

Eric was more than excited for this particular pokemon! A part Grass type? This would be perfect for the first gym! "Go, Helios!" He yelled as he released the larger than normal fox pokemon. "Use Ember!" He instructed as said pokemon used the fire attack on the Ghost hybrid type. The Gourgeist scurried about clumsily having gotten hit by a few of the licking flames but otherwise was unharmed.

It followed up with a Scary Face which stopped Helios in it's tracks only for Eric to urge at it to snap out of it. Before commanding it to use Ember again. This went on a for a little bit but eventually the duo managed to whittle down the pokemon's health enough for Eric to use a pokeball. "Pokeball, go!"
