There was enough excitement going on in Birch that Clementine felt the need to relax and make her way home. Or to at least walk to Cedar Town so she can mark Route 1 off of her exploration list. Once she can confidently say she's seen Route 1, she won't feel bad about getting rides past the route ever again.
To make her travels even easier, she was riding on Edwin's back. Her small frame and his pride made this easy for him, even with her backpack on. It wasn't any quicker then walking on her own, but she knew it made Edwin happy, so she was happy herself. Walking on either side of Edwin was Margaret and Everett, who were both taking their "guard" duties seriously.
While they were mostly following the path now, Clementine knew that some water routes were going to be on her radar eventually. She had decided to try and find a nice water type pokemon who could help her out when the time came, and even bought a small book on recommended species for water travel. Thankfully the book came with pictures, which made the thing usable for those like her who didn't know all the names that well.
OOC Notes: Tauros (level 5) is out but unable to battle because he's carrying Granny. Cubone (level 2) and skiddo (level 1) are able to battle currently.

The small crowd that was Clementine and her pokemon had a peaceful walk. In the distance, they caught sight of some birds playing with a mysterious blue pokemon. In excitement of the new sight, she ordered Edwin and everyone else to stop moving and rushing to open her new pokemon book. Well, book was a bit generous. It was more of a pamphlet. But to the old woman it was a gold mine of information. "Mantine? What a unique name." she muttered under her breath. By time she had found the information, Margaret and Everett were play wrestling on the ground behind Edwin, who was trying his best to keep his tails out of their match.
The mantine seemed to have spotted them, as the birds it was playing with flew off at the sight of the human and her pokemon. Clementine caught onto that, and climbed off of Edwin and took a step in front of him. "Hi! Hello! You're quite glorious, aren't you? Sorry we scared off your friends, we didn't mean to," Granny began, hoping to befriend the new pokemon, "You seem like a dependable pokemon. Do you want to join our team?" she asked finally, holding out an empty pokeball as an offer.

The flappy pokemon cheered joyously and accepted Clementine's offer, flopping into the pokeball with all the grace of pancake on ice. Once secured, the elderly woman safely put away the pokeball.
Not a few seconds after, Clementine let out a worried gasp. She'd forgotten to release Norbert! The poor puppy must be going crazy in his ball. She rushed to release him, and just as expected, the excited rockruff started running laps around everyone else. "Don't stray too far, please, Norbert." She called out to the young ball of energy, and then looked at Margaret and Everett, "If he runs off, I expect one of you to go get him, alright?"
The two nodded eagerly, but for each their own reasons. Margaret wanted to know how many smacks of her club Norbert could take, while Everett was excited for the potential corralling.

It wasn't even five minutes later when Norbert spotted a bird pecking at the ground. Without a second thought, the eager puppy bounced over to play with his new feathered friend. Everett caught sight of this and was in close pursuit, but seeing two pokemon approaching the taillow caused it to fly away.
Norbert whined at the sight, and huffed angrily at Everett as the skiddo pushed the rockruff back over to Clementine. "Aw, did it get away?" the elderly woman cooed softly to her eager puppy, before turning to the small skiddo, "Thank you for bringing him back." She said gently. Everett baa'd proudly in response.
Margaret rhythmically batted her club against the ground, reminding everyone to keep walking. She was bored, so bored. Norbert was getting all of the attention, and Margaret wasn't liking it.
NOTE: Only three pokemon are battle ready, which are all levels 2, 2, and 1.

The banging of Margaret's club must have acquired some unusual attention, because a horribly colorful fish approached the group out of tentative curiosity. Clementine was confused, and a little bit horrified, at the strange sight in front of her. Edwin stopped in his tracks and growled threateningly, feeling his owner tense up on his back.
Norbert was as playful as ever, so Clementine thought to get some of that energy out of his system. "Norbert, tackle that fish, will you?" She asked the young rockruff.

He wasn't paying her any mind, however, and instead focused on playing with Everett. Margaret took up this chance to battle the strange thing and Growled at it. The bruxish used Water Gun, but Margaret narrowly dodged it and avoided most of the damage. She then moved in with a Double Kick, and much to her luck, it was a crutical hit. The two went back and forth for a little while, but eventually the wild bruxish fainted. Margaret joyfully collapsed on the ground, tired and injured, having just barely scraped through the battle.
Clementine recalled the cubone with a gentle thanks, and ordered the rest of her team to continue moving slowly.

Clementine was quickly thankful that she put Margaret up in her ball, as a young trainer approached her soon after. "Your team is quite interesting," they said. Edwin grunted in a startle, and everyone turned around to face the strange trainer.
It took the elderly woman a second to respond, as she was immediately captivated by the fact that the trainer's pokeballs were literally floating around them. "Ah, uh, yes. Thank you?" She stammered roughly, "I'm sorry, but are your pokeballs flying?"
The trainer laughed lightly, "First time seeing a psychic?" They asked, smiling proudly. Clementine nodded quietly, and then finally asked a long moment later, "This isn't a trick, is it? They're really flying?" She asked, still in disbelief.
The conversation went back and forth like this for a little while, until the mysterious trainer brought up the idea of battling. Clementine was against it at first, but once the trainer mentioned wanting to see Edwin's strength, there was no backing down from it. The Tauros was already determined.
Clementine got down from the normally gentle tauros and stepped back, ordering the others to follow. Norbert didn't hear her, and was lead over by Everett. The trainer released what looked like a Mantine, and Clementine was thankful she knew what the pokemon was.
The mantine started off with a Leer, which Edwin returned with a Growl. It then attacked with a... scratch? That was strange, did mantines know scratch? Edwin seemed to pick up on something Clementine couldn't, as he started building Rage.
What she didn't know is that Edwin caught onto the pokemon's tricks, and found it insulting that it would mimic Beatrice's appearance. The "mantine" got in a few more hits before Edwin finished building his Rage. Once it was released, the trainer's pokemon lost it's illusion and fainted.
Clementine gasped audibly from the surprise, but none of her pokemon were surprised. Everett was a bit shaken at seeing Edwin's strength, however, and decided to bleat menacingly at the tauros from behind Clementine's legs.
Satisfied with the battle, the trainer left. Clementine tried to offer them a potion for the trouble, but they declined, stating that their pride wouldn't let them recieve a gift after losing.
Edwin joyfully bounced over to Clementine, wanting pets and praise for his hard work. The elderly woman couldn't help but to smile at seeing him hop around, and obliged the eager tauros with praise and pets.

Between Clementine showering Edwin with praise, Everett spotted an Azurill hopping along in the distance. The skiddo welcomed the distraction from remembering how strong Edwin is, and hopped over to the wild pokemon.
While Everett's intentions were wholesome, the wild pokemon thought he was approaching for battle and promptly fled. Clementine and Edwin walked up to the saddened skiddo, and comforted him. "You scared the poor thing away," Clementine cooed, not helping the mood at first, "It probably saw how strong you were and ran off," She comforted softly, knowing that the compliment would brighten Everett's mood. "Now, let's get Norbert out here," Clementine said, finally feeling ready again to handle the puppy's energy, "He needs to get some of his energy out of his system." As soon as the young rockruff was out, he was barking and bouncing joyfully around everyone's feet.
