Okay, okay. Michael had his fun with the trick or treat maze and the ball that went along with it and now it was time to be back on his way into the wilderness. He'd made sure to pack as light as possible, considering he wasn't intending to stay out here too long this time around. Just get back to Bass the quickest way possible. That required him to go through Cedar first, though.
The wind was rather rough and he was thankful for his preparation in warm clothing. His gloves were nice and thick, but he'd tested to make sure he could still use Pokeballs. He had a ear muff headband and a scarf too, plus boots to make sure he was prepared just in case it snowed. Although plenty of his Pokemon were furred and well-insulated, he decided to keep them in their balls for now. He was also wearing his ranger vest over his thick jacket. Y'know, just in case.
...How did Adelaide find herself in this situation, again? She had just wanted to take Lupine out for a walk down route one, the pokemon had been way too loud and hyper and she had thought that... maybe the weathr could do him so good- or so she'd thought. Yesterday? Was not today. Adelaide had found herself wearing hardly weather appropriate clothing, a lilac dress tickling at her ankles and sandles stretching over her feet. She had assumed it was going to be a little breezy but... a decent say for going down route one with a pokemon to clear her head and maybe relax-
But then the wind had changed all her plans. Instantly she'd been thinking and mulling over the worse- her perfectly curled hair was going to be a mess and anybody passing by would be able to tell it wasn't naturally in perfect princess waves- she'd barely be able to see over the wisps of hair that thrashed at her face- and to top it all off she was freezing.
She could see the headlines now, Adelaide Gladstone- a true idiot. Bagon had adored the weather though, running through the wind with an adorable dinosaur cackle rolling off his tongue, kicking sand at his heels and causing a minor inconvinece to any pokemon under the sand- and for a moment Addy was terrified somebody would see him, call her a terrible trainer, maybe attempt to hurt her- hold her for ransom- take Bagon away- but she didn't see many people out in this weather-
They had been smart, they weren't going to deal with wind burn and a cold. The girl could only hold her hair away from her face, having forgot a hairtie, and attempt to stay stationary amidst the windsts gusts, watching Lupine almost anxiously. He was having fun, tiring himself out and just... being a good boy-
Until he saw something sparkle in the water. A loud cry left his lips and the Bagon turned from where he was, glancing at Adelaide with a cheeky smile for a moment before toddling his large body over and splashing through the water- no! The girl let out a startled gasp, letting go of her hair to pick up her dress and run forward towards the coastline. The wind was wild, surely the sea would be too?! "L-Luppy- buddy, back now!"
The Bagon only beamed at her before continuing forward- being closer to the sea she could feel a chill coarse up her spine- this was bad- she... she couldn't risk Lupine getting hurt, especially not in this weather. "Lupine, p-please! Don't... don't m-make me come in there- please.."
Lupine stopped, turning to stare at her for a few seconds before waving his arms at her, as if waving. He was fine, see Addy! He could handle anything! Another step forward, and the pokemon was pushed back by a big wave, halting his progress towards the shiny. Determined, though, Lupine continued going, and Adelaide could only begin to tremor, eyes wide. She looked around the beach- searching for a way to help... a stick...a person-
A person with a ranger vest. A loud noise left Adelaide's lips and she waved her hand at them, trying to ignore how badly she was shaking, "H-Help me, please!"

Hearing the call for help, Mike stopped and scanned the area to find where it was coming from precisely. Seeing Adelaide, he blinked and started on his way over while reassuring her, "I'm coming!" Once he was closer, he could see the Pokemon in the water and used some context clues to figure that was probably the problem. "Don't worry, we'll help."
"Zee, let's get this guy out of the water," he expressed as he released a gigantic Teddiursa. The four foot tall bear waded into the water and grabbed hold of Lupine's arm. Although she would be trying to drag him out at first, if he just explained that there was something shiny in the water, Zee would agree to get it for him as long as he got the heck out of the water because it was cold and he was just not built for the cold.
Meanwhile, Michael would get a blanket out of his pack to use as both a towel and a way to warm up the Pokemon once he could be convinced to get out. Zee was better built for cold water and would be all right. However, she was a bit clumsy and as she went to get the shiny thing out of the water, she face-planted into the waves. Soon enough, she recovered and managed to get whatever it was that had interested Lupine so, but she was tearing up a little at her clumsiness. "Hey, hey, you did good," came the reassurance from Mike and he took his glove off to reach out and give her some affectionate rubs.
The Teddiursa calmed down a little and he was able to refocus on the woman and her Pokemon, offering the blanket. "Are you all right?" He wasn't sure if Adelaide herself had gotten hurt or anything, but at least it seemed like they were able to deal with the Pokemon issue (he hoped?).
Adelaide could thank all the gods above that the ranger stranger both saw her and came to her aid almost instantly. Right now she didn't care that she was probably odd looking, a total mess and helpless in the situation- lazy coordinator takes the new headlines, sue her. All she cared about was Lupine being safe- those waters could drag him under at any second! Not that she didn't... believe in him, but... but it was dangerous! She could only watch the rescue with hands clutched at her chest and very weak encouragments like "G-Go... teddy!" and "Come on... c-come on, Luppy..."
Lupine eventually agreed to get out the water, shivering and just... really wanting the shiny thing- if Zee got it for him, then it was fine, no harm done! The shiny thing only turned out to be a pearly shell, but a reaaallly pretty one! Lupine had seen it from afar and adored it, so when Zee came back he'd rushed over with giddy thanks, oblivious to Adelaide's immense worry as she panicked where she stood. Thank Mew he was okay... she couldn't live with herself if something happened to him. Her hands instinctively clutched at her bare arms, fighting back a shiver as she attempted to smile, turning to glance back at Michael. "I-I-I... uhm...I...." She moved to take what was offered, albeit hesitantly. She didn't wish to be a bother, or seen as somebody who steals thing- would the ranger stranger think she was ungrateful!? Was giving her the blanket a test?! Adelaide fidgeted a moment before moving to call Lupine closer, wrapping the blanket around his dinosaur body. Her gaze flicked back up to the ranger, and her hands moved to clutch at her skirts.
"T-Thank you... s-sorry... i'm... i'm f-fine...it's... i-it's just cold and I thought L-Luppy would..." She trailed off, biting back more words. The stranger didn't need to hear anything, he'd think it was unnecessary. He'd judge her! "S-Sorry... t-thank... thank you..."

Zee was happy to have helped and seemed pleased that Lupine was delighted with the shiny thing. She moved a little bit away to shake off as much of the water as she could. As she did that, Michael just tilted his head a little at Adelaide. "It's completely understandable to be worried about your Pokemon. No need to apologize, though I would suggest that if he does something like that again, perhaps the quickest way to avoid injuries would be returning him--at least temporarily--to his Pokeball."
He didn't mean to sound condescending, but it seemed like a pretty obvious fix to him. "I'm Michael Kempler," he added, extending a hand to shake hers if she wished. "I'm glad I was here to help. Would you like an escort to town? Were you heading toward Birch or to Cedar?" He wouldn't have any problem heading back to Birch if she needed the help. Would be nice to have some company on his trip north, though.
A soft sigh left her lips at hearing the stranger had thought that what she was doing was understandable- though she still had her doubts- they were a stranger! It was his job to say these things to attempt to calm the public! What if he thought she was secretly a terrible person for not being able to stop something so easily stoppable?!
And as he explained the quickest way to avoid injuries her grip on her skirt tightened- right- but... "I...Sorry- I... I-If um- I feel it's b-best to have a mon out at all times- I didn't think to... I...I j-just get... sometimes..." Her words were very disjointed and she had to force herself to take a breath, moving her gaze to watch over Lupine, "I... j-just feel like I need a p-pokemon out, is all- I...I really d-don't mean to put them in harm i'm not- I'd never mean to h-harm them-"
What if the stranger thought she hurt her pokemon?! Abused them?! Her breath got caught in her throat and her hands moved to clasp tightly infront of her. How did she prove she didn't- her gaze snapped back to the boys as he introduced herself, eyes moving to his hand then back up to him. "...A-Adelaide...Gladstone..." She unclasped her hands and met the handshake rather weakly, her hands being ice cold from the weather and lack of proper coverage, not that she hadn't noticed. It took her a few seconds to realize she'd... actually said her last name, and her face paled- no- no wait-
What if he'd heard of her last name- her sister- her?! Oh he'd go to the reporters straight away and tell them that Adelaide Gladstone puts her pokemon in danger and shouldn't be a coordinator! Her thoughts were so loud that she struggled to hear what he was saying, only tuning in at the last second....
Escort- to town... uh..."C-Cedar sounds the... t-the warmest, doesn't it?" she didn't know... she'd come to walk her pokemon but she hadn't really... thought that far, had she? If she ever said that, though, she'd be judged- and now she couldn't decline whatever he just said because she'd be seen as rude and a butt and... and she really didn't want that. "I...I w-wouldn't... mind...I guess...uh..."

Although he really did just want to be nice, Michael's brow rose slightly at her disjointed explanation. Well, sure, he could understand wanting to have a Pokemon out, but... that's why it could be temporary, right? There was a brief battle in his mind about whether to try explaining that or not. He settled on not bothering. She was worried and no matter what he said, she seemed likely to continue. So instead of make her feel dumber and frustrate himself more, he'd just focus on helping her out.
Thankfully, Michael had zero idea about the goings-on in Sinnoh and therefore did not recognize the name one bit. To be fair, he didn't really follow any coordinating events, either, so that helped. "Adelaide," he responded, simultaneously trying to reassure her, draw her attention, and test out the way it felt to say, "I'm here to help." Sometimes, less was more. Michael took his gloves and handed them to her, smiling all the while. He wondered what had happened to her to make her so nervous. Was it because he was male? To be fair, she'd called upon him and he hoped he appeared male, even from a distance. As he tried to puzzle out why Adelaide was such a wreck, he'd start walking toward Cedar, Zee following suit.
You could say Adelaide was slightly relieved to note that he didn't seem to recognize her name- one bit. Lupine rested by her side now, he had the shiny thing, that's all he wanted out of life! Everything was right in the world, peace was restored in the universe. At least for Lupine- Addy was still nervously shaking, hands curling and uncurling in on themselves..
Then Michael spoke her name, and the girls eyes flicked up, wide- was she going to get reprimanded?! Yelled at- what had she done- was she supposed to make eye contact?! She didn't know if there was any secret ranger rule that she had to follow in Arciel, maybe she should have looked up ranger etiquette before calling one over to help- that was probably the wisest thing...
Here... to help... Yeah- right he... ranger- not out to hurt her. She sniffed slightly, ignoring the cold travelling through her. Why did she think that- she was awful, a terrible person. They were a ranger, it was their job to help people like her! "O-Okay..." She managed out, pausing as he moved to hand her his gloves.
Nooo! She couldn't take those- that'd be bad! They're his property- was this a set up to see if she'd steal them, or... what if he was cold- yeah! If he was cold he'd need them, she would be okay without them! She managed a small head shake, ignoring the cold that ate away at her. "N-No, no it's... i-it's alright- I...You're cold, keep y-your gloves."
He stared walking, and the girl crossed her arms, pushing her hands against her sides as she rushedto catch up with the ranger. "...s-sorry, to take u-up your time..."

"It is cold out, but I happen to have pockets and, as I understand it, women's clothes tend to have really crappy pockets. It's okay, really. You're obviously much colder than I am right now," Michael tried to insist on her having the gloves. If she really refused, he'd let out a small sigh through his nose, looking worried, but no longer pressing. As they started to make their way towards Cedar, the purple-haired boy trying desperately to figure out something to say or talk about without making her more nervous, Zee kept her eyes out for anything of interest.
Hearing Adelaide's apology, he looked over and blinked. "I feel like... hm." Michael wasn't really sure what to say to that. He didn't want to enable her lack of self esteem, but he didn't want to make it worse, either. If he had to do anything, he'd want to help her gain some confidence but that was exceedingly difficult when you didn't know a person. "You're not taking up my time. I offered my time to a person in need of help. Even if I weren't a ranger, I'd want to help you if I could." Maybe... There was a good chance even a year or two ago he wouldn't have wasted his time on anyone but himself, but that was then and this was now.
Tag: This Luvdisc wants to be loved more than anything and will occasionally stop battling to gush over an enemy or ally. You must roll over a 50 for him each time to keep him on track. In order to break this tag, you must do one training thread encouraging him to love himself first.
He insisted again... It would be rude to decline the second time, right? He could think she'd ungrateful- does he already look fed up with her? Should she just make a break for it now while she has the chance? There was a very soft, hesitant sigh that left her mouth before she reached out towards the gloves and took them. "O-Okay... if... i-if you insist..." She averted her gaze as she moved to slip them on, biting down her hesitance. "....T-Thanks..."
She began fiddling with the gloves as he dwelled over what to say, attempting to ignore the thoughts that began to swirl around in her head. A soft, confused noise left the back of her throat as he started to speak- she.. wasn't taking up his time? He'd... do the same if he wasn't a ranger? But that was confusing, "B-But i'm n-not in need of... o-of help anymore, s-surely there's o-other people you need to h-help!" her hands clasped awkwardly at her front now and she muttered softly, "I doubt n-non ranger you would wanna help, I w-wouldn't wanna d-disturb you..."
She began walking again, however paused at a soft noise from nearby. Her gaze flicked around landed on a luvdisc, who was staring at her from a nearby area- he seemed to be...attempting to approach a hoarde of wailmers?! But he was so small! What if he got hurt!
Addy barely thought as she picked up her skirts and rushed over, fishing out a quick ball and throwing it towards the luvdisc.

Thank Mew she took them. Michael felt a little bad pressuring her and everything, but it just wouldn't do to have her get frostbite or something under his watch. With her nervousness, he almost suspected that she wouldn't even actually take care of herself unless prodded to do so. While she tried to say that she didn't need help anymore and furthermore, she didn't believe that he'd have helped her if he wasn't a ranger, he mulled it over. This caused a lack of response and then she was hurrying over toward some Pokemon.
"Come on, Zee," he instructed and the two hurried over. While he hoped the ball would work the first time, he figured it best to make sure and so he released two more Pokemon: a shiny Heracross and a Stufful. "Beetle, use Bullet Seed!" The bug-type, towering over everyone present, used the move that was instructed. It didn't appear to do quite as much damage as he expected and he became a little concerned. The target of Beetle's attack retaliated by using Whirlpool on her, water blasting her away from the two bears and creating a standing tornado of sorts comprised of salt water.
Cursing lightly under his breath, Michael called, "Fluff, use Leer! Zee, follow it up with Lick." The two bears jumped into action.

After their attacks, their main target used Mist to avoid further weakening. Another Wailmer used Growl, effective negating the advantage they'd worked to gain. Michael took a deep breath, starting to get irate over just how well these wild Pokemon were fighting against his. He took a glance over to Adelaide and steeled himself. 'Don't lose control,' he coached himself and refocused. "Fluff, try using Bide!" Since they'd be unable to lower the opponent's stats, this and using Tackle were her only options so it seemed like a good option at the moment.
He was surprised by how hard she was hit by the Water Pulse that came next, sending the Stufful reeling. "Woah! Hang in there, girl! Zee, Lick it again!" The Teddiursa did so, trying to do her best.

Seeing the way the Wailmer recoiled, he grinned. That's what he was waiting for. Pulling out a Pokeball, Michael threw it at the paralyzed Pokemon.
Adelaide Gladstone 382. Attempting capture of the paralyzed Impish girl with Pokeball.
A noise of surprise left her lips as she managed to catch the Luvdisc, and she very quickly moved to clasp the ball to her chest, eyes wide. She was glad he was okay! Those Wailmers could have squashed or hurt him, or ever worse... And there were so many of them!? It took her a few seconds until she realized that Michael was actually taking them on, and her eyes went wide.
Would he be okay!? She knew she probably wasn't the best at offering help, and so all she could do was weakly mutter, "Y-You- you got this..." from the sidelines, staring warily from the Wailmers to him. "...T...There's so many,,,"
Post by Michael Kempler on Feb 7, 2020 16:42:15 GMT
One Wailmer tucked away in a Pokeball. Thank goodness. Turning his attention to the remaining, he gave an assertive nod to Adelaide's remark. With a grin, he instructed Zee to use Scratch. He had one that he was focusing on again. He bit his lip as one of the other Wailmer used Heavy Slam on poor Fluff. It was a rough hit, but she managed to survive it and unleash the Bide against it. This was enough to take it out of the fight. "Beetle, use Night Slash!"
The still-trapped Pokemon unleashed the attack at the Wailmer Zee had targeted and Michael nodded. "Okay, Fluff. You return to your Pokeball." Making sure she didn't get more injured, he focused on Zee using Lick again until she paralyzed the wild creature just as she did the other one.
The moment the Whirlpool ended, he returned Beetle as well, realizing that these Pokemon must be quite a bit higher in level than she. At long last, he could see the Wailmer twitch with paralysis and pulled out a Repeat Ball to throw at it.
ooc;; Throwing a Repeat Ball at a paralyzed Pressure Wailmer.
Adelaide stood by and watched, not... entirely too sure what she should be doing. Lupine stayed next to her, cooing and letting out excited noises every few seconds, eagerly watching the fight before them. Would it be rude to not cheer? To not say anything and let him do his thing!? She didn't want to get in the way, or be seen at the girl who butts into things when she's unneeded. She could be reported to papers and have nasty rumors spread- or- the internet! She could get... twitted about!
As Michael caught another one she fidgeted, watching as the others fled, "T-That's... thats a-all of them, right?" she looked lost, like she wasn't sure what to be doing, and still shivered against the cold. "...G-Good... good job?"
Post by Michael Kempler on Feb 15, 2020 17:57:35 GMT
Letting out a sigh as the wild Pokemon fled, he returned all his Pokemon and made sure he had the two new Pokeballs in hand. With a smile at Adelaide while he walked to the second Pokeball, he nodded. "That's all of them. Thanks. Let's keep going. And hope we don't run into something like that again." Laughing, he sent the Wailmer back to his PC and hoped his Pokemon were okay for now. He had some Potions so he wasn't too worried, but still.
"You didn't get hurt or anything, right?" Michael probably should have thought about that possibility first but whatever. By looking at her, he could tell she was still cold and he felt kind of bad about that still. The battle had distracted him from the cold... With a jerk of his head to indicate they should move on, he crossed his arms to better keep his hands warm.
