Oh dear. This battle is getting rather prolonged. But Marcus wasn't going to give up. Between two clouds of scent, Marcus called out to Riolu to have them return, then sent out his Rowlet. The owl Pokemon did only a little better than the previous fighter, still ending up confused by the clouds of sweetly smelling gas, but managing to do a little more damage and hold the Milcery's attention while Marcus lined up another shot. This time, he hoped. If it didn't work, the Pokemon would surely run, and his team would have been injured needlessly. That would not do.

Oh. Good. Marcus sighed with relief at having, this time, caught the Milcery successfully. Excellent! Marcus was quite happy with that. His first successful capture in a good long while, and if the sorry state of his two companions was anything to go by, quite a strong one as well! This was excellent; the Milcery would, no doubt, be an excellent addition to his team - fairy was a useful type as well. But the Milcery was quite worn-down by that fight, and so were his other two Pokemon.
(Riolu 2/5, Rowlet 3/5, Milcery 2/5, if my memory serves.)
So Marcus decided he was going to take a bit of a rest stop. He was not going to stay idle in this time, but instead of moving quickly across the roads and paths, he would stay in one canyon and hope that, for a time, nothing came to him. He could use this opportunity to search for more rocks and fossils, which he most certainly wished to do; such things were an important part of allowing pokemon to reach their true strength, and he of all people was best equipped to try and find them.
So he spent a few days in a carefully hidden campsite, sheltered by cliffs from the worst of the weather, poking at the walls and searching through scree, and coming away with a solid haul of bright-shining rocks and gems. Even a few of these strange shards. (It's not gatcha-time for 3 whole hours, so I can hardly actually talk about what things he might have found)
(Attempting to increase mining by +1; WC is 276 including OOC text)

Marcus has just started to continue his journey when he encounters another trainer who challenges him. "Hey, it's time to spread my wings! Do you want to battle!" the kid shouts. Marcus considers. "I suppose. I would offer to contest my Rowlet against one of your birds, but the poor thing is injured right now, and it would be quite unkind to it. So if we could have a one verses one match, I'll send out my new Milcery.". The Bird keeper nods. "That seems fair. A shame we could not have a battle on the wing, but what can you do?".
The battle is then set out; in an open space, Marcus sets out his new Milcery, and Suriya sends out a Oricorio. The battle proceeds apace. The Milcery makes good use of it's confusing moves to distract and confuse the attacking Oricorio, who has surrendered the best virtue of a flying type by mainly using moves that force it into melee. Ultimately, though, the stronger attacks of the higher-leveled Milcery are winning out, though not by a long margin. It's even weaker now than it was before, being right on the edge of collapse.
Marcus praises it for it's hard work and returns it to it's ball. "Well, then. A good battle, but I don't think we have it in us to continue. We will have to yield". His opponent nods. "Of course. There next Pokemon center isn't too far down the road, so you should be fine if you're careful."

Marcus's supposedly short walk is interupted yet again, by what appears to be a serious-looking farfetch'd standing in the middle of the road, like a sentinal. Marcus is honestly quite put-upon at this point, and is a little rude to the bird. "I'm sorry, but my team are not in any condition to have a fight, so if you'd let me pass or join my team or *just go away* any of those would be great! Just let me past!" ... does it understand? Probably not, but Marcus's point probably gets across. I assume it stands there impassively and as it does such, Marcus will try and walk past it.
(Befriending attempt, but I think it deserves to fail personally. But maybe this bird will take pity on the poor harried explorer).

Well, that was if nothing else, a neutral outcome. Marcus walked past the duck and continued on his way. From here, it was not a long path to take until he could reach his destination. Finally! Finally he would have a warm bed to sleep in, and be able to wash his clothes and eat a hot meal. It couldn't come soon enough, and it was only a few hours away. If he rushed (which of course he did), he could be fairly certain of making it before dark.
With his journey nearly over, Marcus reflected for a bit. It was not the most successful journey, he figured; he spent much of it recovering from lost fights and overpowering opponents, but he had caught some good pokemon, and everyone had made it out whole. And for a first step, that was quite enough.
(I believe that makes 15 posts on this route? Thus allowing me to end this thread and continue to the weeping forest?)
