Aster stepped back out into Cedar Town after a stay for the night in the local Pokemon Center, resting herself and her Pokemon team back up for journeying. She figured it would do no harm to stay in town for a day or two, check out the local food, and see the whole place before continuing to head towards home in Fuji. It was still quite a long walk, after all, and though she was definitely up for the challenge, there was no real rush to get through everything on the way just yet.
Walking with Aster this cool morning was her newly-evolved Ivysaur, Rafflesia, who had suddenly decided to push himself to evolve the instant he had realized that both Ivy and Lily had evolved the previous day, not to mention Clover evolving a few days prior, and he wanted to be bigger like all of his peers. Considering just how big he had been as a Bulbasaur, Raff's new Ivysaur form came up almost to Aster's chest and was fairly wide and round still. She had also brought two newer Pokemon to give them a shot at traveling for a while, and two Eggs that needed hatching; one was clearly a Piplup, but the other one was something she couldn't identify.
"Where d'ya wanna go first, Raff?" Aster asked her Ivysaur, who was enjoying the way his new bulk made the plank streets creak underfoot. His stomach chose just then to grumble loudly, giving them both his answer. Aster chuckled, saying, "Food it is, then. How 'bout some good breakfast?"
The pair wandered about until they came across a small diner that offered all day breakfast, and they went in, choosing to sit at a half-booth and checking out their menus, figuring out their orders.
Beaches and Senara didn't usually mix well. It wasn't that she didn't like the beach itself, it was just that it usually attracted a ton of people--usually tourists, yuck--and she did not do tons of people. But winter was different. The only people who came to the beach in winter were weirdos like herself, or people who just lived here already, so Cedar Town was much calmer than it usually was during the warmer months. So what better time to travel through it for a little while? In her most comfortable Wooloo-wool coat she strolled down the boardwalk with one of her more sun-inclined companions. Fleurir the Grovyle, as well as a pair of eggs tucked into the two over-sized pockets at her side. It would be safer to hatch them in a town, she figured, than out on the road like her last two.
"What do you think I should name them, Fleurir?" She mused, touching the faintly warm shell of the Tepig egg. "This little one is going to be my first Fire type, I'm so excited~"
Fleurir shrugged her skinny shoulders. She wasn't super fond of the idea of super-little baby Pokemon joining the team; they already had JouJou who was enough of a handful. Oh well. They'd survive...though who would be swapped out for the little piglet? It was not going to be Baby Girl, obviously, or Chanceux. Maybe JouJou? Or even herself?
Honestly, she could do with a break from this crazy squad. She was too sane for them.
Senara glanced up at the restaurants as they passed them on the boardwalk. They'd not been planning on stopping to eat, but so few of them were crowded and it would be nice to not need to cook for herself while she was in town. "How about this one?" She pointed up to the sign of a small diner. Fleurir eyed they menu they had in the window, and upon seeing their selection of Pokemon cuisine, nodded to her trainer. Senara gave a small snicker. "I'll be sure to get take-out for them, but I'm not letting Polochon into any restaurant, ever! He'd eat me into eternal debt!"
They stepped inside and Senara went to pick out a booth of her own, seating herself in the booth next to one Aster Chamomile, but not before she took off her coat and set it and the two eggs inside into something of a "nest" of wool in the seat besides her. Fleurir spotted the Ivysaur and, with a small smile, waved her claws in his direction.
"If I order pancakes for Crepe, is that cannibalism? Fle--hmm?" Senara looked up from the menu to where her Grovyle was looking. She blinked. An Ivysaur?...neat.

Rafflesia spotted the Grovyle as she walked in with her trainer and was already eyeing her, not suspiciously but just.. just in case. When the other trainer sat down and the Grovyle waved at him, Rafflesia broke out into a grin and waved back with one of his stubby legs.
"Who're ya wavin' at, Raff?" Aster craned her neck to see the other trainer with her own first-stage grass Pokemon, and she grinned too. "Aw, ya got yerself a buddy, Raff? Ya can go say hi if ya want, I'm sure they won't mind." The Ivysaur stood up and went to bounce over, but realized how large he was and slowed down, walking carefully across the space between the two tables instead, plunking down next to the friendly Grovyle. He gave a happy grunt, smiling sunnily at the other Pokemon, and giving the other trainer a small wave.
"Hiya, this is Rafflesia, an' I'm Aster. Sorry if he's crashin' yer meal, he was gonna be restless if I didn't let 'im come say hi." Aster smiled from her table, not bothering to get up, as a Pokemon sitting by a table that wasn't his was one thing, a person sitting at a table that wasn't hers without an invite was pretty rude, she'd think.
The Ivysaur's trainer, who Senara couldn't quite see with her blind-spot, encouraged him to come by and say hi. As implied, she didn't mind. Fleurir's smile stayed small but also stayed on her beak as he came over and sat besides them, clicking and cooing back at him in greeting. Senara giggled and returned his wave. Aww. What a sweetheart.
"It's alright, I don't mind," she spoke the the person behind her, "Fleurir is my only Grass-type so I'm sure she'll like having another to chat with. I'm Senara." She had to turn her whole head to try to see this Aster, but that would look kind of silly, so she didn't. "Where are you two travelling from? Or do you live in Cedar?" As it was a tourist hot-spot she had a feeling most of the locals weren't going to be on the boardwalk this time of year, but who knows. Fleurir, while speaking in the language the humans didn't understand, gestured to the two eggs, discussing them fondly, but still with a little trepidation. How does one trust a child--her trainer--to raise more children well? She hadn't completely failed on the Emolga but she was certainly not a good influence to anyone.
Mama Grovyle was worried. And as many mama hen's did when worried, she gossiped.
"I may not understand you, but I can read the side-eye just fine, Fleurir," Senara teased. Fleurir chuckled and just kept on where she'd left off. "I'm being whispered about, I fear."

"Senara, huh? Good t' meet ya!" Aster seemed happy to have someone to talk to that could speak back in a language she understood. She ended up talking only to her Pokemon so much, she almost fancied she might understand their language here and there!
"Oh, ah've actually got a farm back in Fuji! We traveled out to Birch fer that Halloween shindig, which ah thought was gonna be somethin' totally different than it was, an' decided that instead o' wastin' the whole trip and goin' straight home, we'd travel back on foot. It's been a good time overall! Caught lots o' interestin' Pokemon an' got lots o' neat stuff in the mines." Aster looked cheerful as she described her current goals and interests. "We got a couple o' these weird marble-lookin' things down there, we're not sure what t' do with 'em. Y'wanna see?"
Friendly, open Aster had ended up deciding that, at this point, it was more rude of her to stay at her previous table and talk across the room to the other trainer, so she got up and carefully stepped around the animatedly chatting Pokemon to sit closer to the other girl. "Ah, I hope ya don't mind me joinin' ya? Seems rude t' stay sittin' over there when I'm talkin' to you over here." She also hoped the waitress wouldn't mind, but as she and Rafflesia hadn't dirtied their table at all yet, she figured it would be fine.
Rafflesia himself was listening and nodding somberly; his own trainer seemed to mostly be good with the young Pokemon, but she could be hard on them while they were still a bit weak, he told the kind Grovyle in a series of noises. It was tough, but between him and the other Pokemon Aster had kept around the longest, they kept her in line, he explained. He sympathized with her worry and patted her on the shoulder with a vine and some comforting, 'there, there,' sounds.
They were from Fuji Town, huh? Senara had never been that far east, but it sounded like a lovely place. She'd probably wind up in that direction eventually. "Ah, that was a fun party, wasn't it? I wonder if I saw you in the crowd," she mused, covering the twinge of annoyance the memory of the Halloween dance brought. If she hadn't gone--or, hell, just been a little more clever--then she might be relaxing in Pine right now instead of this convoluted scheme of Gabe's. Arceus was a troll sometimes. But it hadn't been too bad an evening to be tainted forever, at least. The mention of mining did turn her head and earn a more genuine smile. "Ohh? I would love to see them. Do yo--oh, no, sure!"
Senara could properly see the woman now that she had walked over and joined her at her booth. She could have been anywhere between her late teens to Senara's age, not that her appearance made figuring that out any easier than Aster's own did. Her sincere nature was refreshingly blunt as well. She knew too many liars these days. "I'm actually a minerologist from Pine Town myself. I spend most of my time in the mines, so I might be able to help you figure out what you found, or at least direct you to somebody who can. Ah, here, let me move these two..." With careful hands she scooted the coat-wrapped pair of eggs from further down the bench to right at her side so Aster could have more room. Fleurir continued to sigh along with Rafflesia's comforting "words".
Senara had to wonder what she had done wrong recently that her own Pokemon was complaining about her to a total stranger. Was it related to the heist, or just her overall life choices? Honestly either of those probably caused Fleurir nothing but stress...oops.

"Ah misunderstood the party theme an' came dressed all up as a scarecrow, ah didn't stay all that long.." She rubbed the back of her head in embarrassment, chuckling at herself. "Everyone else was dressed up all fancy-like, an' here ah am, covered in straw an' leaves an' wearin' a burlap sack."
She decided to move on before she dug herself a social pit. "Here, there's these two that look like big ol' marbles, an' there's this weird angular one that looks like it fits into somethin' else, maybe." Aster dug into her bag, finding a small velvet satchel with drawstring closure, and opened it up, carefully pulling out the aforementioned stones. She placed the unknown to her items on the table; a Steelixite, a Sablenite, and a Ghostium-Z.
Being from Johto, Aster had never seen a Z-Stone or a Z-Move in her life, and the Mega Stones were something not found back home either; she was familiar with the concept of mega evolution, vaguely, but didn't realize how it worked to know that these stones were Very Important to that process. She nudged the Steelixite with her fingertip, watching it roll a little. "They sure are pretty, but ahm not sure what use they are t'me. Ah was hopin' for more evolution stones last time ah went minin'."

Senara wasn't sure what to expect from Aster's description; "large marbles" didn't ring any bells for her off-the-bat and a lot of evolutionary stones fit into the "weird angular" category, but a trainer of any sort should know what those looked like, right? The odds that these were actually things of value and not trinkets--or at the very least average--were not great. At least that's what Senara wanted to believe because she didn't want to get her hopes up that some country bumpkin had found something of value when her last foray into the mines had left her with very little. Whee. She leaned in to see the contents of the velvet satchel, squinting in the moderate but not-great lighting of the diner, then pulled out a small pen-sized flashlight from amid her belongings to shine on them. And promptly gasped, her empty hand snapping up to cover her mouth.
Two?!Two Mega Stones?! AND a Ghostium-Z?! What in the name of Giratina's--
"--tentacules noires effrayantes?!" She voiced the ending of that trail of thought out of pure shock, her eye flying up from the stones to Aster's face with the glow of a scientist about to go into a long-winded rant. Oh well, she may not have expected a lecture, but she sure as hell was getting one! "These are Mega Stones! Both of them! These stones allow for Pokemon to evolve a level further than their highest form temporarily, granting them power beyond what they can normally obtain! They're INCREDIBLY rare, and there's only a handful of Pokemon who can benefit from them! If you'd let me, I can see them more closely, I can tell you which Pokemon these ones can mega evolve. Did you find these at the same time?! I--you have to show me where you found them at some point--you may have hit a gold mine! Not literally but...you know what I mean!"
"This, however, is a stone called Ghostium-Z, and when given to a Ghost-type Pokemon allows them to use a special move called...aurgh, I know it in Kalosian. Appel des Ombres Éternelles, but it's something else in English. What is it?" Senara knocked the base of her palm against her forehead a couple of times. She much preferred the Kalos version of the move, but it wasn't as recognizable to people in the region. "Oh, right. 'Never-Ending Nightmare'! It's also good for boosting other Ghost-type status moves."
Senara drew in a breath she hadn't realized she'd been lacking while speaking, nor had she noticed how wide her smile had gotten just from seeing these items herself. Wow. Just wow! What kind of luck did this woman have to find TWO mega stones?!
"I've got to be honest, I am insanely jealous right n--"
Crack?
A tiny crackling sound tore Senara's attention from the stones and from Aster, and at her side, the little blue egg wrapped nicely in her coat suddenly started to creak and crack, and Senara dropped her pen-light in shock. Now?! "AH! Mon Obalie! Que fais-je?!"
The egg jumped a little, the crack in its shell growing in size, once, twice...then pop! Out from the egg appeared a very, very round and very sleepy looking Spheal. It listed in its little egg-shell-and-winter-jacket nest, looking around with tiny black eyes too new to really see well. Senara squealed behind her hands. It--It was so ROUND. She moved down to scoop the little Spheal up and cradle it in her arms, cooing softly all the while. Fleurir had already jumped to her feet and was at her side, clicking her beak at the little Spheal and nuzzling the top of his very round head. "Ooohh, regarde-toi, mon précieux petit bébé! Tu es tellement circulaire! Je t'aime tellement déjà!! Précieux petit chéri...!"

Senara's grin as she freaked out about the sight of the Mega Stones was infectious; Aster found herself grinning along with the other girl. "Ah, yeah, ah get all kinds o' weird stuff down in the mines.. Ah don't remember exactly where I got these, though, sorry. Yer welcome t' take a better look, ah don't mind! That's amazin', though.. Ah knew Mega Evolution existed, but ah had no idea how t' make it happen! Ahm not sure it's fer me, though, t' be honest.." She knew nothing about Z-Stones, since those were such a foreign thing, and she'd never even met anyone from Alola to hear about them or their properties. "Uh.. I didn't know any stones could give Pokemon new moves. Tha's new t' me. Interestin'. We only use TMs an' HMs in Johto, an' sometimes move tutors."
Aster jumped at the sound of the egg's loud cracking; once she realized what it was, she wondered about the egg she was carrying and decided to pull it out of its ball and place it on the chair next to her, nestled in her bag where it was safe. Rafflesia reached over and gave the egg a pat, feeling that it was still pretty solid, but was beginning to shake now, as if reacting to the hatching of the other egg.
"Congrats! That's a really cute lil guy!" Aster smiled at the newborn Spheal; she wasn't terribly familiar with the ball-shaped sealion Pokemon in person, but she'd seen one a while back on a visitor in Olivine City. She did have a weird soft spot for cute Pokemon, even if she didn't act like it most of the time, and Spheal definitely fit into the cute category.
"About these stones though.. ahd be willin' to part with 'em if ya want 'em, but ah did dig 'em up fair n' square, so ah'd like t' trade, if ya got anythin' you'd be willin' t' swap?"
She patted her own egg gently just as Rafflesia had, and the Pokemon within jerked a little; it was nearly ready to hatch!

The offer to tale a closer look at the Mega Stones was significantly harder with a little round Spheal in her arms. The choice between cuddling the baby and looking at two of the rarest stones one might find was hard. Luckily Fleurir made the choice for her and plucked the Spheal from her arms to snuggle for herself. Senara huffed at the greedy Grovyle but didn't try to take it back. "Well then, I suppose I'll have to get my snuggles in at a later date. Here," she held out her hand for the velvet pouch and, should Aster give it to her, she carefully took out each of the stones one at a time to look closely at them.
There were so few chances for her to examine these in the past that she didn't know every color and every type by heart, but she had memorized a few that were relevant to her, as well as the color of the only one she'd ever found herself. The colors of one of them was similar to the Garchompite she owned, but just a little different. Heracronite? No the yellow was against the black, not the red. Then...she knew what it was. Senara swallowed hard and lowered the stone from how she'd been holding it up to the light.
"Well, this first one is Sablenite. As the name suggests it's to be used by Sableye...and not to be blunt, but Sableye is my starter Pokemon. So I would very much be interested in purchasing or trading for this!" She was trying to keep her smile to a professional polite one but it kept twitching wider at the thought of this. A Mega Stone for her baby! Her precious little Baby Girl getting to mega evolve! Oh, Arceus, her heart could hardly take it. She set the Sablenite down and picked up the second stone. This one she knew in an instant; there were only two stones with so bright a blue colored core, but only one had such a steely tint to it. "And this has to be Steelixite! I...I can't believe the crazy happenstance of this but I also have a Steelix--he's my main riding Pokemon. I...wow."
If she didn't know better, Senara would feel like this was a set-up. No way could some random woman walk up with two Mega Stones for two of the most-often used Pokemon on her team. Somebody had to have seen them walking around and thought she was an easy mark--this sort of luck just didn't come to her. It never did.
But Aster looked so goddamn honest. She would be a better mark than Senara was.
So then maybe it was real?
Hah. only Murkrows and Honchkrows have this sort of luck.
But there was no way to prove the stones weren't real without a bracelet, and as she didn't have one--and Aster clearly didn't--there was no way to prove it right now. She would just need to have faith and make a fair trade, and when she got her hands on the tools to use them...if it turned out she'd been tricked...well then. Payback was a bitch.
"Let's see...I have numerous things that might interest you." Senara placed the stones back into the pouch and pulled her own pack into her lap from by her feet, opening the front and pushing some things aside until she withdrew a black box. It was locked with a clasp that she undid and was about as long as her forearm and wide as a dinner plate. She opened the lid and turned the case towards Aster to see; inside it, kept nicely in rich purple velvet, were a collection of evolutionary stones: a Shiny Stone, a Dawn Stone, an Ice Stone, a Moon Stone, a Water Stone, a Dusk Stone, and a Thunder Stone. Each one glowed ever so faintly against the dark interior of the case. Senara gave a proud little smirk at her collection. While not all the stones available, and not even all the stones she owned--she kept the rarest at home--it was definitely a sight to see.
"Here. I would say that one Mega Stone would be worth at least one evolutionary stone in exchange. Pick whichever ones you would like! With my work in the mines I find them...well, not often, but enough to trade in situations like this. That said if only one of them strikes your fancy...I do have a Mega Stone of my own at home--it's meant for use with Garchomp, whom I don't own or have any desire to find--" Dragons were weak to Fairy types after all. "--so if you want, I can mail that to you once I've reached home, and you can hold onto one of yours as collateral until it arrives."
"As for the Z-stone..."
Senara placed a finger to her lips. "They don't work quite like HMs and TMs. The stone itself is the source of the move, and so long as a Pokemon is holding it the move can be used. However if the stone is taken away they can't use it, but you can give it to another Pokemon. Rinse and repeat. If you don't have any prominent Ghost type Pokemon on your team, I would be happy to trade for that as well." Alas, Baby Girl would only be able to hold a crystal or a z-stone, not both, so she would need to plan accordingly.
Post by Aster Chamomile on Dec 19, 2019 19:46:57 GMT
Aster looked relieved that Senara would take these Mega Stones off her hands; she didn't know what to do with them, and with her they'd just be expensive, rare baubles. It seemed like this lady would be able to actually make use of them, rather than having them clatter around in a fancy velvet bag while she traveled. "Great! Ahd be more'n happy t' trade ya! What've ya got?"
As Senara gently opened the case containing her stone collection, Aster's eyes lit up. The Dusk Stone.. Wasn't that what she needed for evolving Iris? She decided that the best way to find out was some quick research, and so she went ahead and whipped out her phone, searching the Pokedex for Murkrow and checking the image in the info against the purple-black stone in front of her. Yes, this was indeed the Dusk Stone, notable for being able to evolve a few different Pokemon, including her Litwick if she could get him strong enough to evolve the first time. She would focus on that later, though.
As far as a second stone goes.. None of them stood out as something she could currently use for her Pokemon, and she nearly said as much, but the Ice Stone looked interesting. It was a stone she'd never seen back home, so she definitely wanted to know more about it. The Dawn Stone was neat too, but the Ice Stone was prettier, in her opinion, and she wanted to get it and maybe learn more about it.
"Ah'll swap ya both Mega Stones fer the Dusk Stone an' the Ice Stone, if that's alright wi' you."
She wasn't sure what evolved with an Ice Stone, but she figured she'd done enough research for now, and even if it wasn't super useful now, it would be no different than keeping one of the Mega Stones. She didn't need them at all or she wouldn't bother trading, after all.
"Ah'll keep the Z-Stone though, ah think. Ah got a couple o' good Ghost Pokemon o' my own, after all."
A Dusk stone and an Ice stone for two Mega Stones. This was the most productive early morning she'd ever had, honestly. Senara nodded and took the stones from out of their velvet-lined casing and closed it again, handing the two stones to Aster with quick hands. She wasn't exactly happy that Aster had chosen to keep the Ghostium-Z, but comparatively this was still an amazing find. How many Pokemon could she have using a Mega Stone at a time? She would need to look into getting a keystone, or work on finding one in the mines, so that she could start training them properly to use them.
This was such incredible luck...just...wow! If I can carry this over to Bass and onto the heist, it will be smooth sailing for me~
"I'm sure you'll make good use of it," Senara giggled and waited to be given the Mega Stones. She'd admire them for a little longer before opening her pack and looking for a space for them. They weren't the smallest things but it would work. Sorta. If not she could ask Baby Girl and Chanceux to hold onto them preemptively so they'd be in their pokeballs instead. "I believe in order to use them, you need an item called a Z-Ring. A few towns closer to the shore might have them in stock since they're fairly popular in the Alolan region. Out of curiosity, what Pokemon are you considering giving it to in turn?"
