He... was ignoring her offering of coffee and... Giratina... her eyes blinked frantically as she heard him go off- a girl... a girl did that?! So... a gossip- a reporter. Can't keep her mouth shut- she told people things, the same thing- but they're- it's a relationship thing, but it's not? Addy was confused. And she's making him- cry. There were the tears that came from a sorrowful breakup- but it wasn't a... Her hands flailed around now, what did she do?! Help her somebody- uhm- uhm-
"I-I'm so sorry- napkins- l-let me get..." She was off, rushing across the store and gathering a fistful of napkins before rushing over and presenting him with them. He was hurt- and acting like this because of a girl?! "H-Here!' hands shaking, she didn't know what to do. "W-Whatever she did, i-is done- and s-she sounds like a b-butt- u-u-uhm..." Blinking once more she fiddled with her name tag, "I-I'll get you more coffee- but with extra s-sugar- a-and... a-and some gingerbread... a-and... u-uhm..."
A very soft kantonian curse left her lips- what did she do or say?! She stood there for a few more seconds before nodding and rushing off, her coworkers were looking at her funny but she didn't acknowledge them right now, she was fumbling for the milk, creating some sugary mess of coffee before grabbing a rather cracked bit of gingerbread and rushing back over within five minutes. "E-Eat and d-drink up- s-sushi is usually better to help cope- u-uhm..."
A head shake, "G-Girls are p-pretty, but t-they're... d-drama, right? N-Not that I know b-but the girl y-you described d-doesn't sound good- n-not that I s-should comment or anything..."
Gabe wanted to evaporate. He didn’t want to be having an emotional outburst that was neither worth his dwindling energy nor directed at the correct person. Forcingly sitting backwards in the couch, he drew his knees up to himself and then deflated over them. A low frustrated noise escaped from him as the barista went and got him napkins he didn’t want and then left again to get him ….more stuff… coffee, gingerbread, etc. that he didn’t want.
Looking up at the woman as she offered him these things and spoke, Gabe stared for a moment in silence. Girls are pretty but they’re drama… Hahahahahahhaha???? His face twitched a little at that. Doesn’t sound good… Yeah. Yeah wasn’t that the case? Not that I should comment… Yeah, that too. Slowly, Gabe reached forward taking the gingerbread and munching on it again. His eyes dropped, and a slow breath drew in and out of him. “I didn’t even try and she still let me down…”
As Gabe settled into silence again after, the rest of the coffee shop went back to doing what it was doing again. Crisis averted?
He still looked so dejected and upset! What did he didn't even try but she let him down even mean?! Glancing left and glancing right Adelaide caught the eyes of the cashier lady Stacey, who's gaze flicked back to Adelaide's station before glancing back at her- right- okay- but... Adelaide's mouth opened and closed and as subtly as she could she gestured to Gabe, an eyebrow shooting up-
She was gonna get fired, Stacey was going to tell the manager and- Stacey got back to work?! Adelaide blinked, confused- maybe... she'd misinterpreted her hand signals! Maybe she'd already messaged the manager and they were on their way?! Wait- she hadn't... she hadn't responded to the stranger yet! "U-U-uhm..." her voice eventually broke the silence and she shifted slightly, hands toying with her nametag, "I-If she let's y-you down... like... w-without trying- t-then whatever's going on... i-isn't worth it?" confused Adelaide noises.
Gabe’s eyes snapped up and held the barista’s again hard and fast. “What are you trying to do, exactly?” he asked, not raising his voice but having some edge to his tones. “Why do you even care? Don’t go above and beyond you work.”For someone like me. Setting what he had been munching on and the drink he’d been sipping to the side, Gabe stood. “Just tell me to leave. Do it.”
Adelaide was instantly taken aback, and a soft, choked noise left her lips. What is she trying to do?! Had she... she'd done too much, she should have just walked away- he's going to tell everyone, she's going to get fired- "H-Help...I was just..." her voice was quiet and instantly cut off by the next thing he was saying- why does she even care?! He's... because she's trying to help? Adelaide began shaking without even meaning to, he was mad at her... he was mad at her...
There are so many things a mad person could do, and she didn't want to cause a scene, especially not in work- but the customer was trying to leave when they obviously weren't okay. Adelaide had stormed away from his sister thousands of times before, refusing help- this was so, so very familiar that it left her feeling sick. "N-No..." She managed out, carefully, her eyes flicked to the couch, then back to Gabe, "...I-I'm not... i-i'm not going to... t-tell you what to do..."
This stranger was suffering and he was mad and there was nothing Adelaide could do- would the legendaries above be mad at her if she didn't help?! If she didn't try something- everything felt wrong. "I... I c-care because.. b-because you remind me so much of me- a-and... a-and my sister... she..." a head shake, a tight smile, she was tearing up, she shouldn't be tearing up. Her voice was squeaky, defensive, "F-Food, food always helps w-when people are upset, o-or a warm beverage- j-just not being a-alone in general often... o-often means a lot to people- i'm... i-i'm just trying to help- you probably d-don't ant it- and that's fine- I... I d-don't mean to push you..."
Hands moved to clip and unclip her nametag now and she took a step back, "Sorry... s-sorry... y-you do... do what... do what y-you wanna do- i'm not obligated t-to keep you here a-and i'll just stop if you w-want me to stop... t-this is probably doing m-more harmthan good, right?"
Words continued tumbling from her lips without the girl realizing, things that were tumbling around her head and being mumbled without a filter "A-And then you'll go s-straight to the reporters and t-tell them h-how bad a waitress A-Adelaide Gladstone is- a-and t-then- then they'll r-ruin me like in Sinnoh- a-and i'll l-loose my j-jon and e-everybody can be h-happy... t-that's your plan if you l-leave, right?"
A sneer pulled across Gabe’s features as the barista insisted that she wasn’t going to tell him what to do. Of course, she wouldn’t. Spineless, pale, pathetic. What came after, though, had his features immediately falling flat. Of course I find an objectively good person when all I want to do is bitch and complain…. Gabe sighed. Why were there people in this world still like this??? Why couldn’t they all be mean, cruel, vicious assholes??
….And she was worried again about him for some reason— or more worried about his opinion of her, apparently— and that was annoying. “I don’t have the time or energy to deal with whatever psychological damage you have in regards to reporters, your sister, or whatever, but I couldn’t care less who you are.” He huffed a little, frustrated to even be hearing this. “Why are you even accusing me of this anyways. That’s not being nice to a customer….” His voice became a little softer, a little more tired.
...Psychological damage? That shut her up completely. He doesn't... right... right... Why is she even... He doesn't want help then. Fine. A hand was brought up to her eyes and she took another step back, staring at him for a brief second. "...sorry... i'll g-get back to work..." none of her business, none of her business. But she was worried. As long as he didn't call up and complain- or go to reporters-
He could do so much damage to her reputation, she could lose this job then have to flee to like Hoenn to go to a place with contest halls, not that she's even started going to contests yet- but she will! And if this guy was just going to push away snacks and help- then it wasn't her problem. Tawny never pushed things, and yet Tawny knew her. She didn't know this customer.... and yet she couldn't just stand by.
She ducked her head in a bow and quickly turned on her heel to go back to her station, pausing as her eyes flicked onto a cookie... warm food... always helps people. She grabbed it and quickly rushed back over, holding it out. She refused to make eye contact and still shook like no tommorow. Maybe she could take her breath after this and get Bayleef out, that would help her. "This... t-this is being nice for the customer. One more f-freebie for the road?"
Gabe grit his teeth and watched as the girl ducked out. A sigh escaped from him and he finally turned to leave. He wasn’t getting anything from being here, so fuck it whatever. He’d go home, get ready, be done. Just as he got to the door, however, she was at his heels again. Looking back over his shoulder momentarily, Gabe turned around fully only to snatch it. “Sure, if it’ll clear your weird consciousness.” he answered before grabbing the door in equal time and yanking it open to step out into the cold again. Because mine isn’t getting any clearer… Whatever, whatever, whatever.
Addy's nose scrunched slightly as the cookie was taken, but she put on her best customer service smile... which was utterly terrible and raised a hand. "H-Have a nice day- a-and... a-and try the sushi shop, maybe..." she stood there warily for an extra second, unsure until a yell of her name was called from the counter, "ADELAIDE!" The girl flinched the full way back, practically sprinting to the coffee machine. "S-Sorry- sorry, I w-was tending to a c-customer..."
Who looked like he probably needed some kinda of therapist, or more cookies... or both? Did cookie therapists exist? She'd have to chuugle that- but it wasn't her job to help sad people, she could just serve coffee, maybe listen to a customer vent about how their sons baseball game was delayed, serve triple shots instead of double and attempt not to cry whenever she was yelled at by her manager.
The customer had left a bad taste in her mouth that she couldn't get rid of, though- she hadn't meant to... blurt out so much like that, but he had looked so tired, defeated- like he'd had the world drained from him. That's what Dia did, that's what Dia does- what if Dia got to hi-
That's stupid Adelaide she's in Sinnoh. If you keep worrying you'll get wrinkled by the time you're twnety, then you'll grow old and gray alone and Tawny will be there trying to support you while balancing her own healthy life that you're obviously going to ruin and-
"ADDY!" Hot water pooled out over the brim of the cup she was filling and the girl let out a loud squeak, pulling her hand away from the cup and dropping it quickly- all over the floor. Dinnie laughed at her and all the girl could do was whimper softly, moving to grab napkins. She was going to get fired for sure once the customer complained, then her life'd be over once more.
