Marley was, honestly, a little surprised when the attack hit. He had sworn Maggie's shot had veered wide. As the Marshtomp floated to the surface, well, Marley wasn't going to turn down a win when he had one. "Awesome shot Maggie!" The Mismagius gave a small laugh of glee. That was one pokemon down, two more to go.
And the next to come out was a Lombre. One that immediately started to make it rain indoors. Oddly enough, not the strangest thing pokemon are capable of doing. Marley gave a small chuckle. "I 'ppreciate the attempt to cool me off, but it ain't savin' ya!" Ok, now Lombre was a grass and water type, so that knocked out the super effective advantage he had. Really, there were two things he could do right now, but he may as well go with the attack most likely to hit. "Alright, Maggie, hit it with another Magical Leaf!" Maggie let out a cheer as she fired another barrage of leaves at the Lombre.

A rush of sparkling leaves cascaded through the rain and crashed into the Lombre. A low vaguely irritable noise escaped form him as he shook the attack off. “Lombre, Scald!” Hiro called back. The duck-like Pokemon took in a deep breath and spewed scalding liquid out at the Mismagius in response.

Another Scald. Marley was getting the impression every pokemon on this guy's team had it. Despite the rain coming down, Maggie was able to shift to the side, the boiling water shooting past her. "Keep up the offensive Maggie! Another Magical Leaf!" Right now, they just needed to pile up the damage. After all, if Shep was able to do as well with a type disadvantage, so could Maggie! She fired off another barrage of magical foliage at Lombre.

“Move, Lombre!” was a strange thing to encourage from Hiro right then, but it worked for the called Pokemon. Leaping across the landing pads, he avoided the oncoming Magical Leaves with surprising ease. Was the… Lombre glowing now, perhaps?? Yes, it seemed so. A special ability had been activated of its own accord, healing the Lombre some in turn.
“Scald, once more!” Hiro went on. The Lombre once more spit the searing liquid aiming to burn the Mismagius for her transgressions.

Dammit! It looked like that attack was right on target. As the Lombre managed to avoid the attack, he couldn't help but noticed that it seemed a bit more revitalized than before. Was that thing healing from the rain! So that explains it. Clever move. "Maggie! Dodge!" Marley yelled out as the Lombre's scald came right at her. Moving almost like fluid in the air, Maggie moved to avoid the blast of hot water, that came dangerously close to hitting her.
As the Mismagius just barely managed to dodge the Scald, Hiro smirked. “Don’t let up, Lombre! Bubblebeam!” he called. Jumping into the water briefly, the Lombre then opened his bill and shot off a fierce stream of bubbles at the Mismagius.

Well, at least this one wasn't a Scald. As the stream of bubbles fired towards Maggie, the ghost pokemon twisted through the air, avoiding the attack. "Respond in kind Maggie! Magical Leaf!" He needed to keep the pressure one, especially with that thing constantly healing. Maggie was more than ready, firing off another burst of leaves right at Lombre.

Heh, Marley seemed a little tense, didn’t he? Hiro didn’t blame him. “You got this, Lombre!” he encouraged instead. As the attack came forward, Lombre burst from the water right before they sliced into it causing it to splay upwards very briefly. Again, the Lombre seemed to glow, drawing in more energy from the rain and water. “Bubble Beam again!” he called. The Lombre once more spilled forth a series of bubbles at the hatted specter.

Marley hissed as this time the Lombre's attack hit, dealing another load of damage to Maggie. "Hang in there Maggie. Ya got this! Magical Leaf!" Maggie was hurting, but she wasn't going to give up. She let loose with another blast of magical leaves right at Lombre.

A yelp escaped from the Lombre as a flash of Magical Leaves cut into him just as he was hopping to another segment of the pool. Hiro winced, but his concerns right then were twofold: the other being that the rain had started to fade. “Lombre! Rain Dance again!” he called. Lombre was quick to comply releasing another beam of light up into the air to start up that rain again.
Marley smirked as the attack landed, doing some more damage to the Lombre. But he wasn't going to let up, especially since it started bringing more rain back to the battlefiend. "Oh now, we're not going through this again. Maggie, another Magical Leaf!" Maggie was happy to comply. They needed to bring this healing plant down!

“You got this, Lombre!” Hiro called. The Lombre was quick to dive into the water as the Magical Leaves came downwards, avoiding the attack before coming up again. “Bubble Beam!” The Lombre seemed to glow not just from the attack but from the Rain Dish activating and restoring some health even as he retaliated with a flow of bubbles again.
Marley cursed as Maggie was hit by another Bubblebeam. But what was more infuriating was that Lombre was still going strong, and healing to boot. "Quite healin' ya bastard!" Marley cursed out angrily, "Maggie! Magical Leaf again!" Maggie was really starting to feel the pain, but she wasn't going to give up. She launched another blast of magical leaves at Lombre.

A laugh escaped from Hiro. “Seems like you need more than just attacking moves,” he chided. Lombre, meanwhile, dove into the water again avoiding the leaves once more. “One more Bubble Beam ought to do it, Lombre!” he called more forcefully now. The dish Pokemon rose up from the water again and shot out the spray of bubbles once more.

Everything seemed to go in slow motion. The attack connecting, and Maggie getting knocked out of the air. Everything just went, well, blank. He watched his Mismagius fall to the water with a splash, and before Marley even realized it, he had recalled Maggie to her pokeball.
He had one more pokemon to use. But before he threw it, he paused. Hiro still had two pokemon left, and the one on the field was still healing up. He looked down at Amp's pokeball. It would be in even worse off condition compared to Maggie, and she had gotten destroyed.
Everything seemed to drain from Marley. "Ya know what, F$#^ this." he muttered, before turning to walk away.
Hiro blinked a moment surprised by the sudden forfeit of the trainer. Eh, well, not like he hadn’t seen that before but… “Hey! If ya come back, I won’t make ya swim beforehand,” he called. Lombre swam back over and hopped out of the water to look at him. “Ya did good, Lombre.” The Lombre gave a small nod and was returnd right after.
Marley barely paid any attention to him as he headed for the exit. He had trained up his pokemon for this, was so confident that they would be able to pull all this off. And then he got completely destroyed by the gym leader's team. He knew they were supposed to be tough, but god damn, that was just ridiculous. He looked down at the pokeballs carrying his pokemon. "Sorry mates," he murmured as he exited the gym.
