A small puff of air, not quite a laugh, not quite a sigh, escaped from Gabe. The promise eased more of the tension in him than the joke did, though, and he deflated a little more thereafter. “Ok…. Thanks….” She went on, and he snorted this time. “True—“ The prod had him fidgeting for an entirely different reason— it was not rough, painful, or otherwise but… it tickled.
His eyes narrowed a little as she went on, however. She felt it, saw it, something painful as… that experience. As she mentioned it being related to aura, however, he grimaced. She couldn’t look at him— if she… if… How can you? You ruined your reputation. You failed. You are too sensitive. Move on. You worthless child. What you feel doesn't matter to me. He had heard those things…. loud and clear. He knew… this power all too well. If she had seen that vision so clear then… there was no doubt that it—
A shaky breath drew into Gabe. Did he want to get into this right now in the dark while they were on an island somewhere between Plum and Bass? Not at all. Not at all but— “…. It’s… probably my fault then….” he muttered shifting just a little to rest his forehead against Senara’s shoulder. “Cards on the table… I’m from a psychic bloodline and… have plenty of their skills….” He didn’t want to be talking about this. He didn’t want to be talking about this. “Harriet has been trying to… help me develop some of them and…” He gulped. “In the past telepathy was one of them that… was erased when I was a kid.” Erased or perhaps suppressed now. It didn’t matter. “S-sorry if I… sorry….I’m sorry. I’m… sorry….”
Senara couldn't open her eye to stare at Gabe in confusion or shock, because she could still see the dark flame just past her eyelids and didn't want to risk it. She also likely couldn't move that much as his head was now pressed into her shoulder, pulling her even closer to him and him into her. Instead she could only listen. Listen and...think.
A psychic. He was psychic, just like the Alakazam. That's why she'd said she was his teacher, that's why he'd been so quick to cut her off. Was that why he believed it so quickly when Nails brought up aura? Was that why Harriet had said what she'd said?
Similar. She called us similar. Because...we're both different? Magic? Or was it...?
Her stomach knotted up on itself. She'd been less than thrilled at the thought of a Pokemon getting into her head and reading her thoughts--her thoughts were hers, and hers alone--but now? Now she had to worry about Gabe doing the same? And he probably couldn't control it half as well as Harriet could. He just said it himself, that vision was him projecting just as she had before, but unplanned. Unwanted. What the hell did he mean by "erased"? How long had he known he had these sorts of powers?
Why didn't he...
Senara swallowed. It was just a little test, but she pushed it forward anyway. She had to know. She had to, because she was curious, and because...she wasn't sure what the feeling was that made her inside twist like that.
Hurt. I'm hurt.
...hah.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Her voice grew a little louder, but not in the sense that she was raising her voice out of anger or the like. It just had more strength to it, more volume. She wasn't mad. I'm not mad. It was something else she didn't understand. "Not. Not before, or back when we didn't...weren't...you know. But when I was in the clinic, or hell even after, after I'd just...found out that I had this scary power that I know nothing about...I would have felt...so, so..." A breath. "...relieved, to know that you were...not the same, I know, even if I don't really know what the difference is, but somebody not normal. I. I've spent the last few days just...confused. Just knowing..."
Senara pulled back only enough that her face was on level with his, though her hands stayed caught on his sweater. She hadn't pulled away, but...she looking at him again. It stung her eyes but she had to see his face, and figured he should see hers.
The weak, anxious little smile on her face spoke more than she probably wanted it to.
"...that there's more magical weirdos out there...would've helped so much. You jerk."
Hurt. I’m hurt. Gabe flinched. A hand shot up to grip into his hair pressing fingers against his skull. “Nghngh….” Yeah, that hurt. His head hurt. His chest hurt. Everything still hurt.
And then Senara went and asked that question. Gabe nearly sat up. Every muscle in him tensed, but he didn’t move. Not before… Not before when they weren’t friends. But after. She would have been… relieved? To know he wasn’t normal? As she pulled back, he leaned back as well and found— her eyes on his, her face level with his. All of a sudden in the darkness, color touched his features, and a subtle red came to his aura.
Gabe’s eyes pulled away from hers, and a small puff of air escaped from him. “I’ve…..” a weird breath drew in and out of him. “I’ve told maybe one or two people ever.” That didn’t mean he didn’t inevitably show it, didn’t mean someone inevitably guessed it, or otherwise, but that wasn’t the point then. A weird breath drew in and out of him. “I don’t want anyone knowing….” A weird noise came and went from him. “I’m already c-crazy so—“ Didn’t need to add psychic onto that.

Even if it was subdued, the red was still easier to look at then all the rest, and it softened the stinging behind her eyes. Would Harriet know what these colors represented? So far the "too dark is bad, but so is too bright" was working but it was still so bare-bones. It was the same color, though, that mentioning Amell and Arietta brought out. Was that...a good thing? Urrgh, this was going to give her a headache on top of everything else. Later. She could figure out all these things later. Right now, he'd shared something he admitted he didn't want to. Something that made him feel...vulnerable.
I can understand that, at least.
"Crazy?" Senara repeated the word, smile fading into a look of bemusement. Then she recalled some of the more...vicious of the blog posts she'd read. And what Arietta had told her in the dance studio. But...that was just teenagers throwing shit at one another, it wasn't gospel. "Nothing you've done around me has been crazy...well," she snorted, "Any crazier than some jeune fille who stole your ID, tracked you down on the internet, lied to pretty much everyone about how she knows you, stalked you to your house...um." I was going somewhere with this, not just dragging myself through the mud. Find the point. "My point is that if you're crazy, I think I am as well? So."
With unsureness in every little movement she leaned in and drew her arms around his sides until she wasn't just leaning against Gabe as before, but was hugging him instead. Her cheek against his shoulder, turned in so he wasn't in her blindside, she mumbled: "Besides, sane people are boring. I don't think I've had a single...p-partner who's sane."
Gabe grimaced as Senara repeated the word. “Y-yeah….” he muttered back. He wasn’t crazy. He wasn’t crazy— He…. wasn’t— Nothing you’ve done around me has been crazy— Gabe blinked. Any crazier than— Than Senara herself who had clearly done a lot of crazy things but…. but…. But…. But. He wouldn’t even process the returned hug right then. It was only her words that came after that decided to hit him.
Color. Gabe’s face warmed so suddenly that he was sure the tips of his ears were scalded. He knew— he knew she meant partner in crime or something of that nature but…. But his chest and stomach had tightened up anew. Gabe’s aura had turned red then orange then yellow. A weird laugh escaped from him, and he hugged around her tighter this time. Muffled Arroian words came and went from Gabe. Snuggling Senara once, he finally sat back.
“….Ask me anything…. And I’ll tell you the truth.”

Senara blinked. Oh. Wow. Something she'd said had done the right thing because the darkness was just...gone. Like the fire it resembled Gabe's aura returned to brilliant, warm colors that somehow weren't painful to look at despite their brightness. She had to giggle at it. Good. That was good. And the cuddling wasn't too bad either, even though it did make her feel especially small. "Hé, arrête ça, je ne suis pas une peluche..." she grumbled halfheartedly, but didn't make so much as a squirm to escape his hold on her.
His little promise--if that's what you would call it--made her tilt her head just enough to try and see their face. It didn't work too well with the angle. "You mean, like, now? Or is that a promise for future conversations as well?" Senara giggled again and shook her head. "Much as I would love to sit her and get all your dirty secrets...we...um..."
She opened her eyes and looked out past him, through the flames of his aura and glow of Rep's tail, and over the black water still surrounding them. "...maybe not...here?"
Oh. Right. Plum. Bank. Sitting on an island in the middle of the sea.
What even is tonight.
"Let's at least get somewhere warmer than the ocean in the middle of winter, yeah?" Senara looked back up at his jaw, a small frown pulling at her lips. "Are you okay to fly? I can call out Crepe and use him to surf--it might be easier on you, but it'll be colder..."
What was she grumbling? He didn’t know, didn’t care. He just wanted to… to…. Oh— Yeah, they were still on a sandbar out on the channel. Yes it was still cold and breezy and damp. Yes that was his chest still hurting— and his head hurting. “Right…” They should probably get to that stupid hotel.
The question had him wincing a little. “Yeah… I’ll be fine…” he answered. “I don’t think… any of the other stitches are…” He felt up his chest and then fell silent. Loose wasn’t exactly what had caused them to tear— nor was taut technically speaking. A weird breath drew in and out of him. “Might just have to lean on you more…” He wanted to laugh but… couldn’t.
Gabe’s eyes flicked back to Rep who was staring sideways at them now. “Ready to go?” Gabe asked. The Charizard huffed. He’d been ready more than thirty minutes ago, you fools. Gabe snorted back. “Ok….” His gaze flicked back to Senara again, and slowly his hands dropped.

"I...don't mind that. Just be careful, okay? I can't really do first-aid in the air." Senara let his arms fall away from her and pulled back herself, allowing her smile to return. "Not that I've had a chance to try. But let's save that challenge for day time at least."
As she stood back up she extended a hand to help Gabe back to his feet, helping him as gently as he would need, before she collected the medical kit and tin of suture thingies and returned them to her backpack. Nothing else had fallen out, right? Not that she could see. Her pokeballs were all in her coat and tightly zipped up so those were safe.
It was only when she moved towards Reptar again that a faint stain of red covered her face and she had to avoid looking at both the Charizard and his trainer. She event draped her hair in front of her face to help hide it. Hahahah, shit, that was...this whole thing was...the longest I've ever let somebody touch me. Hold me.What. What. And we've been watched the whole time by his Pokemon and--and...
...HEY! DON'T LISTEN TO THIS!
Oh god I need to think before I think now...!!
"H-Help strap me in and let's get going?" She squeaked, waiting for Rep to lower his body so she could slide into place, her bag once again on her front so Gabe could lean on her as needed. Concern leaked through the blush, though, and she managed to glance at him before looking away again. "Maybe hold on to me, too, j-just in case...?"
Hah… “I don’t want to try acrobatic first aid…” Gabe answered shortly. He took the hand as it was extended to him and slowly got back to his feet. Standing was… somehow easier than sitting, he realized. Maybe just not hunching in general…
Moving around, Gabe felt over the harness and straps about to have Senara climb up again when— “Ow stop that…” he grimaced both at Senara and himself as her thoughts bombarded his head like – Hey don’t listen to this— “Stop thinking so loudly then.” He needed to reel this new power in. He needed to… focus. They still had so much to do, ugh.
Senara’s request had Gabe refocusing. “Right…” As Rep leaned down and Senara was strapped in again, Gabe climbed back on and… hesitantly leaned forward against her. “I…” Oh, yeah he guessed that was… that was a thing. Awkwardly, he wrapped both arms around her waist and leaned against her. “Alright, Rep, let’s get there quickly…”
Reptar grunted spreading his wings as he leaned up again. Wings beat in unison, and a jump in the air was all he needed to break into the sky again. Gabe, meanwhile, tensed a little more than usual, his arms and legs squeezing some as they climbed the feet upwards. He didn’t scream, cry, or otherwise, but his teeth grit and his nails dug into his palms. Even as they started leveling off, flying forward towards Plum Island whose lights were in the distance now, Gabe didn’t quite let go. A mutter broke the air but was wisped away by the breeze.
