The sky was cloudy, and the weather was slightly cool, given the lack of direct sunlight. Nadine held on tightly to the handles of her green bicycle as she pedaled forward, four red and white pokeballs clipped onto the right side of her waist. One of them was empty, as it’s occupant flew up ahead, taking in the scenery from above. Flint, her spirited Fletchling, squawked whenever he saw something interesting.
He did just that as his trainer biked forward, her short purple hair moving slightly with the breeze as she passed. “What is it, Flint? Do you see anything interesting up ahead?”

A bright blue figure moved out from the grass in the direction that Flint had been mentioning. Nadine’s eyes widened at the sight. “Is that a…Drizzile?” She wasn’t very familiar with this particular Pokemon, as she hadn’t seen it very often before. The wild creature had his eyes on her, as if presenting a challenge.
Challenge accepted.
“Reaching into her belt, Nadine pulled out a red and white pokeball. “Breccia, come out!” She threw the pokeball as a lanky blue Surskit appeared in front of her. “Use Quick Attack on Drizzile!” Breccia did just that, using her light form and quick speed to throw herself against the wild Pokemon. In retaliation, the Drizzile used Water Gun, pushing Breccia back with the pressure of his attack.
Righting herself again, her Surskit used Bubble, getting a direct hit. Water wasn’t very effective against this Pokemon, and Nadine knew it.
“Quick Attack, again!” Surskit used her full speed against the opponent, knocking him off his feet. Before he could get up, she performed one final quick attack with the last bit of her speed, knocking the Drizzile out.

Nadine rode her bike for another twenty minutes before Flint once again squawked down at her. “Did you see something?” He lowered his body, motioning towards a bush. Nadine leaned forward, but she didn’t see anything. What had her Fletchling caught that she hadn’t? Setting her bike down, the young explorer walked forward, leaning into the aforementioned shrubbery.
No sooner than she had done so, the tiniest Brionne she had ever seen popped out of the other side. “Oh! You’re so small, I almost missed you.” The long-lashed Pokemon glared at her, as if unamused by her observation. “You’re so lovely.” With a light blue color and long lashes, she truly was a cute Pokemon. “Would you like to battle one of my partners? I’m sure that they would appreciate you helping them train.”
Nadine enjoyed battling because she enjoyed seeing what the opponent Pokemon could do, rather than chasing a win. It appealed to the explorer in her.
The wild Brionne stood in position, as if accepting her challenge. It caused Nadine to smile.
“Go, Skarn!” She threw a pokeball, and a large Bulbasaur stood there a moment later. “Use tackle!” Not wasting any time, Skarn ran toward the tiny Pokemon, before pushing his full weight against her, throwing her on her back. The Brionne got up and used Water Gun, a move that hit her Bulbasaur straight on the chest. Had he not been a grass type, it would have hurt significantly. This little Pokemon was strong.
“Tackle her again!” Skarn once again threw his weight over her, this time pushing her against a tree. The wild Brionne used Baby Doll Eyes to hurt his attack, but a third Tackle caused her to lose eye contact. She was tired, and her body lay slumped on the ground, several feet from the bush where she’d been hiding. The battle was won.
A Poké Ball with a 50% chance of capturing a wild Pokémon, with a higher, 80% chance of catching any Pokémon that is encountered on Route 3A or Route 3B, or Water-types in the Crystal Lake.

Nadine rode her bike for a while after that, simply enjoying the sensation of the breeze rustling her hair while she moved forward, towards Bass City. Once again, Flint was the only one still out of his pokeball, flying overhead. “Oh!” She ground her dark green bike into a halt as she noticed something blue poking out of the ground. It didn’t look to be a Pokemon, but rather, an item that someone might have dropped.
Stepping off of her bike, she walked forward to take a closer look. “A Dive Ball.” She didn’t see those too often, so it was a pretty neat find. Grabbing the ball, Nadine looked around to see if anyone had dropped it, but she was the only one within a mile radius, at least. “I guess I’ll keep it.”

She biked several feet from the shore, and every few moments, her eyes would wander to the surface of the water. It was beautiful out there; Nadine couldn’t help but to admire it. There was a dune about a yard away from her, and on top of it, rested a Lapras. She was a large Pokemon, with a determined look on her face as she looked around her for threats. Nadine was practically enthralled.
Resting her bicycle against a tree trunk, she made her way forward towards the wild Pokemon, their eyes meeting. “You are beautiful,” she mumbled. Grabbing one of the pokeballs clipped to her belt, Nadine threw it forward, releasing Breccia, her Surskit, from the capsule. She got into position across the Lapras, ready for battle.
“Breccia, use Quick Attack!” Speed was one of her strongest stats, and Nadine tried to use that to her advantage. Her Surskit darted forward, aiming for the area to the Lapras’ side, right below her shell. The move hit, but not before her opponent used Mist, fogging up their battlefield. “Again!” Jumping backwards, Breccia once again summoned her full speed to push it against the Lapras, this time pushing her from the sand dune where she’d been resting.
Grabbing an empty pokeball, Nadine threw it forward towards the wild Pokemon, her breath bated.

Nadine frowned at the bad luck, but at least the wild Pokemon hadn’t run away. Breccia eyed her, waiting for a command. After a moment, Nadine delivered. “Use Bubble!” Keeping at a distance, her Surskit shot a line of bubbles towards the hesitant Lapras, which exploded into bursts of water on impact. The wild Pokemon summoned an Ice Shard attack, which hit Breccia on her round torso, causing her to lose her step.
“Another quick attack!” After getting back into her feet, Breccia jumped forward at full speed, barreling toward the Lapras. She hit the wild Pokemon right below her shell, causing her to bellow.
“I’ll try this one more time. If it fails, I’ll let you be.” With that, she threw another empty pokeball.
Nadine released a breath that she hadn’t realized she’d been holding, as the pokeball settled on the ground. Walking forward, she grabbed the small capsule, looking down at its red and white hue. “Welcome to the team.” This beautiful Lapras would make a wonderful addition to her party, of that, she was certain.
Storing the pokeball against her belt, Nadine made her way back to her bicycle, which was still laying gently against the tree trunk. It was time to keep moving. The sun was setting, and she didn’t really want to ride her bike in the dark. Her vision would be impaired, which made the roads more dangerous.
“I would love to battle!” Nadine eyed the heavily made-up girl as she glared back at her.
Nadine had been biking her way to the next town when this stranger had the audacity to say that her Fletchling, who had been flying above her, looked weak. That was a challenge, if she’d ever heard one. And of course, Flint would take center stage during this battle. It was time to show off his strength, so that this stranger could learn to keep her stupid comments to herself.
The girl brought out her own Pokemon, a Simisage. Flint was the first to attack. “Use Peck!” Her Fletchling swooped down towards the grass type, his sharp beak meeting the center of his torso, and pushing him back. Once again regaining her equilibrium, the Simisage jumped back on its feet, pushing forward and using Scratch. The attack hit, and Flint squawked in discomfort.
The girl chucked at the direct attack, but Nadine wasn’t done yet. “Use Quick Attack, Flint!” The bird Pokemon gathered as much speed as he could, before throwing himself towards the opposing Pokemon. He hit her arm, and the Simisage used Leer, lowering Flint’s attack.
“Peck, one more time!” Circling behind her, Flint dig his beak into her back, causing the stranger’s Pokemon to fall onto her knees, before laying on the ground completely. Flying type attacks were super effective, after all. This battle was done.
Nadine could see Bass City in the distance, and a smile made its way to her features. “We’re almost there, Flint!” She was just about to accelerate her bike, when she noted something bright and orange in her peripheral vision. An Orange Apricorn, it looked like. What a lucky find!
Stepping away from her bike, she reached down and grabbed it, rubbing the soil cover skin against her top to get it shiny. Placing the item in her bag, she got back to her bicycle, riding full speed ahead. She was ready to continue her journey. Flint squawked above her, excited at the prospect.
