Huh? Oh, hm. Gabe squinted at the Vaporeon and then the Jolteon and … oh ok, yeah he noticed the details after the fact. “Very perceptive,” he complimented before following through the Flareon door.
As they stepped into a brighter lit room, Gabe blinked a couple of times letting his eyes adjust to it before actually looking around. Oh-uh…well this was creepy as fuck. Reaching to push down the hairs standing now on the back of his neck, Gabe mumbled something softly to himself before shaking his head and approaching the shelf. Looking from the dolls to the clothes and then to the dress me sign, he forced a half laugh. “How childish…”Stop being scared. Stop being scared. Stop being scared. Focus. Focus. Focus.
“Her image is a status symbol… should be a princess,” he reasoned out the first one. “Uhm….” He looked between the Fairy and Unicorn Onsie as he considered the second one. “The second seems more like a Unicorn than a Fairy, but I can’t rule the latter out…” The last, though… “Training to have grace and poise only really falls under a ballerina…” he reasoned out again. That … looked like it did it, right?
Riley walked with head held high as the door did indeed turn out to be correct, and he grinned and flashed peace signs at the Zorua and Zoroark as they cheered. "Thanks guys~!"
The next room was admittedly very creepy, in a different way than others were trying to be. It sent a chill up Riley's spine, though Hunter the little shit seemed fine. He guessed she just saw it as a room full of toys, heh.
He read the descriptions with Purrloin and listened as the kitty worked out his guesses. Riley nodded. "I think you're right. The first one's gotta be a Princess." He started dressing her. "And the last one's definitely a Ballerina. Dress her while I'm getting this one yeah?" While he did that and Riley finished up, he pondered the middle one. "It does seem like it could go either way on this one, but the last line makes me think Unicorn is right. After all, there are lots of fairies, but unicorns are rare." They got that doll into the unicorn onesie. "Are we right?" Riley asked the room.
You hear a sound of slightly creepy but happy laughter before the door slides open. Congratulations! Onto the next room!
You have entered the room.
What will you do?
You enter a room which at first appears eerily empty save for an ornate coffin lying in its center. You hear a faint sound from above, and realize the ceiling is littered with sleeping, hanging Golbat. There are three small puzzles attached to the coffin. Make a Dexterity roll so see if you can successfully align all the proper pieces. You only need to solve as many puzzles as there are players.
Gabe gave a nod at Meloetta’s words and dressed the Ballerina as asked. Were his hands shaking just a little? No, no of course not. It was just hard to get the clothing on this doll was all. There, see? Just fine. The reasoning out of the third earned a small nod. Right, yeah, that did make sense. As the room was asked and the laugh was heard, Gabe nearly dropped the stupid doll. Setting it back on the shelf instead, he stepped sideways and then towards the door that had opened. Right then.
As they came to the next room, Gabe found his gaze fixating on the coffin. Hm? Were they digging up a vampire now? As if on cue, a sound above drew his eyes. “Oh…” Well, well then. That was… dangerous but somehow less scary than the last room. Walking over to the coffin, Gabe bent down to examine it. Hm, well. Let’s… let’s see here. "This doesn't look too hard..." Of course any real puzzle could be harder than it looked.
Riley sighed with relief and satisfaction as the room signified they were in fact correct and allowed them to pass. The next room seemed pretty empty by comparison to the last, and less creepy... unless there was a body in that coffin, but surely not, right? Right. As they approached, though, the faint sounds from above caught Riley's attention. Looking up, he whispered, "Oh yikes." Better be careful of being too loud then, huh?
"So it's a puzzle?" he said softly as they reached the coffin. Hopefully not too bad then, but he could always be wrong. The little pieces did look awfully finicky, but Riley began trying his best to maneuver them to interlock in the correct order.
The puzzle clicks into a perfect place, and your section of the coffin opens up, revealing 4 Rare Candies. Onto the next room!
You have entered the room.
What will you do?
You enter a room lit by a single torch in its center. Six candles line the walls. On the left wall is a green, a red, and a purple candle. On the right wall is a yellow, an orange, and a blue. Each candle is also labeled for the colorblind. A backlit plaque reads: "Do not fear the storm. It comes after."
Special note: Staff characters must roll a special die and get 30 or higher for their character to figure out the puzzle, since they know the answer. Remove this if no one is staff.
Oh this was just like one of the locks he had picked recently, Gabe realized. A small toothy smile pulled onto his features as he registered the subtle, familiar clicks. When it finally opened, he hesitated to reach in but eventually did so and found— Oh my— Well wasn’t that a … treat. Pocketing them for now, he flashed a smile at Meloetta briefly before noting the door to the next room had also opened.
Stepping into the next room, Gabe looked over the torches slowly and then read the plaque right after. Ooh, he knew that one! “A rainbow, right?” he asked Mel briefly for confirmation before starting to rearrange the torches into the signature ROYGBIV format— granted there was no indigo or violet in this case (oh wait was purple supposed to be violet heh). Anyways.
Not rolling bc Jae rolled successfully and figured it out lol
Click! Huh? Some berries? Well, Riley guessed that was healthy or something. Though looking over to see that Purrloin got some Rare Candy, he mumbled, "Hey..." He pouted slightly, but quickly brushed it off. Onto the next room, he supposed.
The plaque confused him slightly, but when Purrloin pointed out the answer, Riley perked up. "Oh! That makes sense. I think I read it like the storm coming after something, but a rainbow coming after a storm makes perfect sense. So yeah let me help." He grabbed some of the candles and helped Purrloin light them on the brazier in order.
The door lights up with a rainbow glow before sliding open. Congratulations! Onto the next room!
You have entered the room.
What will you do?
You enter a room that is lit only by a large moon-shaped light in the center of the ceiling, tiny LED stars that cover the rest of the ceiling like a night sky, and one dimly backlit plaque with instructions: "Pick a partner and sing".
A Midday, Midnight, and Dusk form Lycanroc sit around the room, howling at the false moon. Each has a small barrel hanging from their neck. Choose a Lycanroc and make a Performance roll! Players may choose the same or different Lycanroc.
Oh, that was beautiful. Gabe’s eyes shined a moment on seeing the rainbow flicker before the door opened to the next puzzle. Stepping in, though, Gabe’s eyes immediately raised upwards to the moon and stars above. They weren’t near as nice as outdoor summer moons, but for something like this… not bad. “What do you think—“Awooooo! Gabe fell off as his eyes dropped to the Lycanroc and then flicked to the black lit plaque. “Oh…” A small smile quirked on his lips. “Well, hm….”
“Think I’ll go with Midday….” he decided aloud before heading over to it. His hand had raised to pat the wolf, but when it leaned back, he realized that wasn’t what it wanted. Well, alright. They were supposed to sing, weren’t they? But did that mean howling along? Cupping his hands around his mouth, he let out an “Awwwoooo!” back. Maybe if he had been thinking of it, he might have meowed instead, but hindsight would be 2020.
As the door lit up rainbow, Riley smirked to himself and mumbled, "Gaaaay." He snickered afterward. Fortunately, Purrloin didn't seem to mind, or maybe didn't hear, but either way.
Riley followed his companion into the next room, marveling at the pretty fake stars. "Sparkly~" The plaque caught his eye a moment later though, and... partner? Oh? Oh! "Puppies!" He'd been so busy looking up that it took him a moment to notice. "Ah, if you're going Midday, I'll go Dusk." That felt 'safest' to him anyway, somehow. If there was some difference in partners, it felt like Midday and Midnight would be extreme ends of some kind of spectrum, while Dusk would be middle ground. He could be totally wrong though.
He threw his head back along with Purrloin, though, and let out an "AWOOOoooOOoo~!"
The Lycanroc is pleased with your performance, and gives you 4 Rare Candies out of its neck barrel! Please update your bag! Onto the next room!
You have entered the room.
What will you do?
You enter a room with walls lined with shelves containing all sorts of spooky oddities. To one side is a bubbling cauldron watched over by a Mismagius, and next to it a wrack of ingredients with a sign: "Complete the brew." Use the big wooden spoon to stir in ingredients, making a Cooking roll! All players work on it together.
The Midday Lycanroc threw his head back and howled along. Gabe went a step forward and ‘AwoooOOoooooOO’d a second and third time. Finally, the Lycanroc nudged him and raised his head. Gabe hesitated a moment before taking the contents of the ba— Oohh. He could always use more candy. “Thanks, pup,” Gabe smiled. The Lycanroc gave a nod back. After that, a door dropped readying the next room. Gabe glanced sideways and then over towards Meloetta. “Looks like our concert was enough…” he laughed then.
On to the next room….one that had a particular smell that Gabe couldn’t place. His eyes flickered over the Mismagius and then read the sign. “Complete the brew….” he repeated. “I’m guessing it’s supposed to be edible?” He smirked towards Meloetta. “Hmmm what spices do we have here even….” He read off each that was contained before fishing out two or three that he actually recognized the names and tastes of. They may not have been the best to use, but he knew how they would taste— in theory given this cauldron. “Any others that catch your eye?” he asked.
Between the lot of them, Riley kind of expected discordant noise, but was pleasantly surprised to find they all harmonized pretty well. The Lycanroc both seemed pleased, as well, wagging their tails and handing over-- oh! "Thanks a ton!" Riley told the pupper. "Who's a very good doggo??" he asked, beginning to scratch the Lycanroc's thick neck around its rock protrusions. "YOU'RE a very good doggo yesh you are oh yesh you--" Oh right! Purrloin was heading forward. Riley hurried along after.
Hmmm, a brew? And a witch, ha. Riley sniffed it thoroughly, then looked over to see what Purrloin was getting. "Oooh, huh..." He took a moment to imagine what those would taste like mixed with the brew, if the brew tasted like it smelled. "Cooking's not really my strong suit, but maybe uh... bay leaf?" He read a label, then picked it up and smelled the contents. "Oh that's pungent. One or two leaves oughtta be enough." He wound up settling for two thinner leaves, tossing them in as Purrloin added his ingredients.
Afterward, Riley would grab one of the big wooden spoons next to the cauldron and stir. "What room is this by the way?" he asked Purrloin as they let the brew boil. "Eight? Nine I think? We're getting close!"
The Mismagius seems pleased with the brew! She takes a taste, then gathers 4 Rare Candies [each] from one of her shelves to give you. Your gifts will be sent shortly. Onto the next room!
Congratulations! You have advanced to the tenth room!
You have entered the room.
What will you do?
You enter a room littered with pumpkins! Small, medium, and large pumpkins cover the floor, without leaving a clear walkway. Several Pumpkaboo watch from the sidelines. Make 3 Dexterity rolls to see if you can navigate through the pumpkins without tripping on the vines and squishing any. The Pumpkaboo will probably forgive you if you can't make it completely, but still be careful.
“I’ve lost track,” Gabe admitted with a small laugh. “But it’s been quite a few….” He probably should have been paying more attention, but of course his attention had fallen on the rooms themselves instead. As the Mismagius tasted the brew, Gabe glanced sideways at Meloetta before looking forward again. “Oh would you look at that… seems we’ve got approval,” he snickered softly before taking the candy and heading on to the next—
Pumpkin patch?? Gabe’s eyes flicked from one large pumpkin to the numerous small ones that littered the room. “Heh… want to try to move together? That way if one of us falls, the other can try and catch them?” he offered looking back at Mel and extending a hand.
Riley couldn't help but wonder just what the brew would taste like. It smelled okay, but admittedly kind of weird. But, as Purrloin pointed out, Mismagius did approve, and Riley supposed that was all that mattered. "Bon appetit!" he told the Pokemon. Seemingly forgotten behind him, Hunter, who had been faithfully following along all this time if quietly, sniffed the brew, too. Yuck? Ghost Pokemon were weird. Well, whatever! She continued following Riley and the Purrloin person to the next room.
"Oh neat," Riley said, looking over all the pumpkins. Ooh, but trying to get across the room may prove tricky huh? At Purrloin's suggestion, he stopped to ponder. "Hmmm... That could work, though we might also pull each other down..." Was it worth the risk?
He shrugged. "Ah, fuck it. By my count this is the last room. We came in together, so we may as well finish or fail together. Let's do this!" With that, he took the Purrloin's hand (paw? lol) and they began to navigate together.
The Pumpkaboo are thrilled you didn't squish any of their friends! They're so happy they shower you each with 5 Rare Candies! Your gifts will be sent shortly. Onto the next room!
You have entered the room.
What will you do?
You enter a long dining hall filled with ornate gleaming furniture and amazing massive paintings lining the walls. Unlike the rooms in the maze, this one feels warm, well-lit, and pristinely maintained, an oddity in what is supposed to be an abandoned home for sure! Several Pokemon come up to you and cheer, taking turns handing over items to you! When they are done, they cheer once more, then your world goes black and you feel like you're spinning. You are suddenly back at the entrance, your prizes still in hand. Seems you weren't welcome to stay long in that private space, but you can rest knowing you've achieved something, and probably seen a glimpse of a life in this house that few others have seen!
You each receive: 3 Dusk Balls, 10 Rare Candies, 300 Pen, a Shiny Powder, and 3 OOC Gems!
ooc: normal page rewards to be added after final wrap up
“Good,” Gabe grinned clasping Meloetta’s hand and starting through the pumpkin room. He moved carefully stretching his legs in awkward positions sometimes just enough to slip around a few pumpkins here and there! This wasn’t too hard now that he was getting comfortable with it. Getting all the way to the other side, he exhaled a bit loudly. “Not bad.” The Pumpkaboo seemed pretty happy as well and were quick to hand over candy. Gabe took them and pat the Pumpkaboo once before looking onwards. “If that was the last room I wonder…”
Only one way to find out… Stepping through the threshold, Gabe immediately found himself looking all around. The long dining hall with ornate, beautiful furniture and art was strangely reminiscent of something that he couldn’t quite put his finger on. He felt… small all of a sudden yet warm, comfortable even. Suddenly finding his hand taken, he looked up to find the Zoroark from earlier grinning at him. Gabe grinned back shaking its hand and then several others. “Looks like we w—“ Gabe wouldn’t get to finish his sentence to Mel when the world started to go dark and spin.
Suddenly everything stopped again, and they were standing at the entrance once more. Gabe swayed a little almost habitually. His hands tightened and relaxed feeling over the items he had received. “Well… that was neat…” Shaking his head to clear it, Gabe glanced sideways and grinned at Mel. “Congrats.”
There was a time or two where Riley nearly tripped on a vine, but he managed to catch himself before Purrloin needed to, and before he knew it they were to the other side, being praised by a small patch of Pumpkaboo. Riley laughed, delighted, and gratefully accepted their candy treats.
The room to come next was beautiful, as well as innately fascinating. Who maintained it in such a place? The Pokemon? How? But he was distracted from his thoughts by all the congratulations, earning another small laugh as he shook hands or similar appendages with a few as well. "Why thank you!"
And then just like that, they were outside, but Riley could hardly complain, still loaded up on candies. He tucked them away, then grinned at Purrloin. "Congrats to you too! And thanks for being an awesome partner~!" Hm, now what though? He'd like to get to know this guy a bit, but right now was eager to go join the ball. "We should hang out some other time," he suggested. "It's kind of fun to keep the mystery alive for tonight though, yeah? So..." Hmm... He snapped his fingers. "How about I give you my number, but we don't exchange names until you call or text whenever? It can be a fun little surprise for later~"
